Honestly one of the worst places Ive ever had. Our company must have gotten a ridiculously good deal for holiday catering. Every single thing was way over cooked and lacked any form of seasoning. I will admit the croutons were probably the best part of our meal. Chicken thighs were ok, once you got past the burnt, rubbery skin. Green beans were tasteless, shriveled and burnt on the ends. Pasta was over cooked by at least 10-15 mins with a weird chunky/ bland sauce. Ill assume it was jarred sauce. Never in a million years recommend this place. I hired Cranks for my sons wedding. Paid for a pig roast with all the fan fair along with a dish of beef tips and a dish of cod. I clarified with the chef that the pig would be placed onto the grill and carved. Seems the staff that brought the food tried or did pull a fast one and presented with a tray of pulled pork. Said they had it out and already cut it up. 104 people and not 1 person seen a pig. Also the beef was like rubber and couldn't be eaten. And to top it offthe bbq chicken was burnt. I have called 3 times in over a week and still no response from the owner. Silence. You would think someone would be very concerned about this. Especially since their staff lied and said a dad walked his little girl up to look at the pig. No dad and little girl at the party. So disappointed !!! Beware. read more

Caveat: We never talked to the bar tender about the food in person on on a follow up call, only bar services & she committed to bringing ice for our 3 coolers. Cranks food was not good! MICHIGAN, Southeastern. Do not use Cranks. Shop around & do your homework before even considering. We will not be using Cranks again nor recommending them for a variety of reasons. First, the quality of the food for the silver package drop off was not good. Only 3 of the food items were liked/eaten by our 50 guests (chix/mac n cheese & italian sausage). 3 of the 4 salads were very watery & so not tasteful/drab. The burgers were so tasteless & dry, no one cud eat them (found out they are frozen from 3rd party provider then cooked right before delivery). The price per guest is advertised as ~$16 per guest, but @final contract, came to $34 per person! This is mostly due to a whopping 19% service fee they add, which is for "their kitchen equipment, trucks, maintenance on vehicles, building utilities", etc.... + add a full 10% gratuity + plus add gas fee + then add taxes on top. When we asked for cheese for the burgers, it was a flat no, "go buy some Kraft singles & put them out there" & when asked for 3 additional sterno lights for under the 3 tins, it was, "you can pick them up at the dollar store." When asked for extra ice for a few of our personal coolers, it was, "no, make sure you provide all your own ice" and this is when we contracted for full bar service for 4 hours. This review has nothing to do with the quality of food or Crank's facilities but is a review of the catering sales representative, John Crank, his business dealings, and how he speaks to his potential customers. Long story short, I spoke to Fieldstone Golf Course about setting up a celebration of life for my mother at their Arrowhead Grille. They referred me to Crank's Catering and provided me with their number. I spoke to a lady who worked at Crank's who was very friendly and accommodating and said that someone would need to check availability and they would get back to me on Monday. She told me it would likely be John. John called me on Monday and told me that Fieldstone GC was open for my requested day, and we began discussing the event order. I told him I would like the BBQ #1 buffet for $19.95 for 30 people. John says that I am looking at the wrong menu and that it is not the pricing for an off-site catering event. He explains that the menu is only for golf outings. John proceeded to tell me that the minimum buffet for a celebration of life would be $26.95 per person plus a $100 per hour room charge. I explained that the menu listed on the Fieldstone GC Weddings and Events does bring up a Golf Outing menu, so it could have been clearer and that I assumed that was the only menu they used at Fieldstone since it came up under Weddings and Banquets. He told me it was the wrong menu and asked if I wanted him to email me the correct off-site catering menu. I said, "Wait a second; I am trying to help you fix this issue." John says, "You don't need to help me fix this; I will call them and get this fixed. We have been with Fieldstone for five years, and this is the first time this has ever happened." I conveyed that was weird, considering the way the information is posted on their website. John exclaims, "I am not lying to you!" I say okay, but I have one question, "Can you tell me why a celebration of life banquet is $7 more per person plus a $100 per hour room charge than a golf outing banquet?" John mentioned something about china versus paper plates, and then just said, "IT JUST IS! We make the food in Shelby, and I can tell you, if we were doing lunches for $19.95 per person, I would be losing money. NOW DO YOU WANT ME TO EMAIL YOU THE CORRECT MENU?" Funny thing about that statement is, that if I had called for the Celebratory Golf Outing of my Mother, John would have gladly done the golf outing buffet for $19.95. Not only is John not doing a great job educating people (especially one's who are dealing with a lost family member) from a pricing perspective, but he is also rude when dealing with potential clients in the manner that he speaks to people and in how he handles his business overall. I am sure he has a successful business, and the food is wonderful from the reviews I read. Unfortunately, the owner is not a person of class or character, so his business is successful despite his own business and decorum deficiencies. I would reconsider working with Cranks Catering; well, at least as long as John Crank is leading their sales efforts for catering. read more

I had both my son's and daughter's graduation parties catered by Cranks and they never disappoint. The food was delicious, and they supplied generous portions. The servers were courteous and professional. I have also been to several events at the Enchantment Banquet center. They have a gorgeous banquet hall. Again, the food is delicious and in addition to the main courses it includes a multitude of yummy salads, fruit, cheese, etc. I always look forward to a celebration at Enchantment!!! read more

Super disappointed. The amount of food that they provided us for my grandma's luncheon after her funeral was far from enough. We paid for 40 people and they admittedly only made enough for 20 people. When we asked them about replenishing some of the food they either ignored us or brought out some lame substitute. They only gave us 2 options of pop, some bottled water, and coffee. The quality of the food was adequate. This poor review is not for the quality of the food but for the quantity and for the quality of the service during and after the fact. I think what's worse is when my stepdad went back to discuss the service issues with a manager her was berated and mistreated. I mean, he had just lost his mom for Pete's sake and they treat him like some heathen looking for a handout. He wasn't even looking for a refund. He never even asked. He just wanted an apology or an acknowledgment of poor service but instead he was basically called a liar and belittled by John Crank. This place is a joke. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. WOW is all I can say about the experience we had at Cranks. Horrible, HORRIBLE and we will NEVER go to this restaurant again!!! We were there for my grandmas funeral luncheon. We paid for 40 people and ran out of rolls, chicken, salad, dessert and the potatoes were just about empty. When we first questioned our waitress on needing more dinner rolls she started "YOU ONLY HAVE 20 PEOPLE and I brought enough for 30. I said no, we paid for 40 people!!! Eventually she brought some store bought rolls after my astonishment at her 20 people comment. Rather than the homemade, buttered rolls they initially had. Multiple family members started talking saying they ran out of food. I, myself wanted more chicken as I had only grabbed 1 piece and the round sirloin was dry. Other family members weren't able to get any chicken. Just crazy that these items were not being restocked when we had less than 30 people but had paid for 40. Let's talk about the dessert table. This was an additional $5 a person and they literally had 1 dinner plate with cannolis, mini eclairs, brownie strips, (which I never saw) and a couple cookies (which I never saw, these items were gone by the time I went up for dessert, which was immediately after I ate my dinner. I, myself had grabbed 2 mini eclairs and a cannoli and when I went up a few minutes later for more dessert it was gone. After I mentioned to my family about running out of desserts my sister mentioned asking the waitress for more and it was never refilled. As far as the drinks go they had 8 plastic bottles of water, about 6 cans of Coke and 6 cans of Diet Coke sitting on their bar counter. We needed to ask for it to be replenished multiple times. My stepdad went to talk to the owner today and the owner screened at him. Literally SCREAMED AT HIM. I'm a former waitress and I've never heard of this kind of service to customers. We have had 12 deaths in 4 years. 3 deaths this week in our family and we will NEVER, EVER go to this caterer or give them as a reference. We were told by the funeral home that they are known for doing this. So BEWARE!!! Note to owner: if people are charged for 40 people give 40 people worth of food. Don't adjust unless you're willing to down charge. We were charged $1900 and had 28 people. $65 per person!!! read more

Another amazing event pulled off by the wonderful staff at Cranks catering! Cranks catered my wedding at an offsite location for a full service dinner. Everything from start to finish was perfect. Cindi in the front office helped with picking out menu choices and more. She was excellent with communication and made booking the catering a stress free process. John Crank was so helpful too, I had silverwear rentals that I had to drop off before my party and he unloaded my entire car for me, he wouldn't let me lift a finger. Tiffany was our event lead, she called me days before the wedding and confirmed all of my final details which gave me peace of mind. Our venue did not allow vendor access until 12PM, Tiffany and her team pulled off a perfect set up in a very tight time frame. It looked magical. The full catering staff was attentive and friendly. Most importantly the food was incredible, my family and friends were raving about the perfectly grilled filet and passed apps! I wish I had pictures of the food to share. Top management (VP of Cranks) even showed up during the dinner service to make sure everything was running smoothly, this made us feel so special. May 2024 we had our daughters wedding shower of 70 people at Enchantment Banquet Hall. It was a beautiful venue, awesome food and professional set up with a private entrance off the patio area. The room had big windows with lots of light. All of the guests gave many compliments. I would highly recommend Enchantment Banquet Hall and Crank's Catering. I received many compliments on the amount and variety of food for our guests. The food was exceptional ! The setup is very professional - wedding level. We even had a bartender ! I used Cranks catering for my sons graduation on August 14. From the start I didn't feel I was working with anyone who even cared about my party. I worked with Cindi. Although she was nice on the phone I feel like she didn't help much with any suggestions or it just felt like she could care less. Now for the food, I went with two entrée buffet GOLD package. I chose Roasted sirloin, Chicken Piccata for a $2.00 Upgrade charge, Pasta Primavera, Roasted smashed potatoes, Prince Edward vegetables, and extra salads provided by Cranks. The food was not good. The Roasted Sirloin and Chicken Piccata were very chewy and just so so. The Potatoes were ok but nothing to brag about. Pasta Primavera was ok, again nothing special. The vegetables were borderline raw. They were only cooked about half way. Salads were so over dressed. Service- I paid extra for the Gold Package. What is the Gold Package? I will tell you as per their website: Gold Package The GOLD package is the Crank's traditional way of catering. Just sit back at "let us crank out your occasion" with the GOLD package. You will receive professional service where our staff will set up and maintain your buffet throughout your serving time. Our staff will dress your buffet table with white linen tablecloths along with stainless steel chafing dishes, prestigious serving utensils, food presented with high and low tiering and floral arrangements. This package includes disposable silverware, plates and dinner napkins. Hmm sit back and relax they said. I had two to three of my guests helping serve food and change the trays. They would wait until each tray was empty then proceed to their truck to get another tray. "Professional Service" consisted of two young men around age of 18-20. Very nice boys but clearly not able to handle this alone. Back to the tray changing. They piled up all the empty trays on the floor, stacked on top of each other. The table setting was ok. They did tier the food but there was no floral arrangements or anything decorative on the table, as stated in the "GOLD PACKAGE" and the plates they provide are foam. Sooo sooo beyond upset with my catering order! I had party August 16th and I had ordered the red skin parsley potatoes. Had these at 2 different parties and couldn't wait to order them for mine, let me tell You how disappointed I was... they where packed horribly the full of so much oil it spilled all over my husbands brand new suit. Cranks went above and beyond when catering our I Do BBQ. My fiancé and I had 90 guests, and we served food twice during the event. Cranks provided the food and service both times. I'm not afraid to say it was a wonderful experience. The food was delicious, and the service was top notch. They cooked onsite for the first meal and brought food to the second. Wow this place is soooooooooo basic!!! I was supremely unimpressed with the quality of food served at our staff meeting. Where should I start the boxed eggs, dry potatoes, watery syrup, or the cold pancakes. How in the hell did Cranks Catering land this job??? Maybe it was because they were the cheapest or maybe it's because they know someone on our staff so maybe that's why they were chosen. Whatever the reason it wasn't worth hiring this company. I would never recommend this place to anyone even if they were cash strapped, my opinion is pick a better place to cook your food unless you want cold garbage. We booked Cranks for a Funeral Luncheon. The Luncheon was to be at our Church, and it was clearly made known it was for a funeral luncheon. When we placed the order, not only did we give the address, but we specifically gave the name of the church multiple times and directions that we would be ready to eat at 2 pm. The service was at the church, so the church would be open when they arrived to set up. Church was opened at 11:30am, gathering started at noon. No caterer. Service starts at 1pm, still no caterer. No big deal, there are people working at the church to direct them where they need to go if they show up. Service ends, "The family would like to invite everyone to stay for lunch." is announced in church. Walk down the hall....no caterer!!!!!!!!! We immediately called Cranks, and they said "He's been sitting outside the door for an hour. The doors are locked. We tried to call you". HE WENT TO THE WRONG CHURCH!!!!!!!! Sorry we didn't answer our phones.....we were in a funeral! He wasn't even on the same street as our church!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why would you sit outside for over an hour and not call the office or double check where you are?!!? Furious cannot even begin to describe things! We put a deposit of $600 for our daughters wedding shower for April 2020 but because of Covid everything was closed and we did not have the shower. Cranks will not return our deposit and we have no other event we could apply that deposit towards. We are out $600 and everyone should beware. Unfortunately there are no do overs in life but if there was I would never have went here for my sons grad party. I have had 2 events here prior 10 years ago and was happy, but this event had me in tears. The woman (Gwen I believe) started out my event by saying that she talked to me on the phone the day before and I said no you did not. She said yes I did. Okay u didn't but whatever. Super weird to start. I told them I have 95 rsvp's yes but just to be safe for the entitled people that feel that they don't have to rsvp, i said I have 105 people. 10 over my final count so as not to have any problems. 4 people cancelled on me for sickness the morning of event, and 7 people left after the soup course for another event, so now 11 people under my final count of 95 but add 2 people for my brother in law showing up without an rsvp. Anyways, plenty of food right?! No. My sons friends came and they were part of the rsvp yes and no seats. There were seats from the people that had left but the place settings were dirty and I asked the head waitress to please give them a new place setting or point me in the direction where the plates and napkins are so I can take care of it myself. She yelled at me and said you should have done a buffet!!! We are too busy right now. I said regardless I paid for 105 people's food and I only have 92 people here so how can you not accommodate these 3 boys? She says I don't have time for this we are busy. Okay so now the tears are flowing. My sons once in a lifetime graduation party and he only invited 3 friends because we have a huge family and there was so many people already, and those 3 friends were treated like crap. I was so embarrassed and I will actually never get over that embarrassment . I paid all this money and me and my guests were treated like garbage. Don't ever have an event here. Unless u want to cry and be embarrassed. Me and my husband and my sister didn't get to eat our meals because we were bringing our plates to the 3 kids that were sitting alone and didn't have meals. With barbecue season quickly approaching, steer clear of this caterer. I was terribly disappointed and embarrassed by the service provided for my husband's memorial celebration of life. Not enough food for 150 people. Paid for 165. Little bowls of greasy pasta salad. One box of 50 count chips for 150 guests. Servers spent time chatting with guests they happened to know instead of keeping an eye on the buffet table. When i called to complain the next day, I was told that salads are just "fillers". What are fillers you may ask. They just put bowls of the chef's choice of greasy pasta salad to make the table look full. Like there is a lot of food. Most of the guests were men and family that traveled a long distance. They had to stop on their way home to eat - again- after they just left a luncheon! I was humiliated and almost in tears that this memorial luncheon food was terrible! I recently had an insensitive comment from a guest who attended remark how touching the military aspect of the memorial was to him, but damn, the food sucked! How would you feel knowing that Crank's did the catering? It wasn't cheap. I got the best package they offer. I would have been better off preparing the food myself. There would have been adequate amounts, no watery baked beans, no greasy pasta salads and 150 bags of chips! I hired a caterer because I was in deep mourning and grief at losing my husband suddenly. This debacle with Crank's only added to my grief. If you are thinking of having someone come to your event to barbecue, don't hire this company. We used Cranks for our wedding in June and were really happy with the experience. The prices were very reasonable and the staff did an excellent job communicating with us leading up to the event. On the day of the event they arrived on time and quickly setup the buffet. The food tasted great and I was really impressed with the decorations and aesthetics of the buffet. This review is for the new Banquet Center at 21 Mile and Hayes in Shelby Township: Although there were obviously a few kinks to work out at this new banquet center, my wedding reception went very well. The food was great, servers very helpful, and the room looked very nice (especially the awesome bars, yes there are 2). One great benefit (besides the excellent price) of this hall is that you'll have the whole place to yourself. Most of the other halls in the area hold multiple parties at once. Definitely a 4.5+ star experience with Cranks. I manage community events for my workplace and we were planning a LARGE banquet for a youth football team; expecting about 450 people. Not only was Cranks able to meet our budgetary needs, but they were SO easy to deal with and I was able to make changes all the way up to the day of the event. There were two minor snafu's - they were a little late to the event (like 15 mins) because they were given incorrect directions from their coordinator, and they neglected to bring spoons for the salad dressings. Both weren't big deals as the late start for food was totally unknown to the guests as they too were late filing in, and we had spoons in the store to use for dressings. Other than that, with all the food I got FOUR well-dressed servers to direct the guests and promptly refill food as needed. The equipment and display they setup was top-notch. The cooks were very friendly and they did a fantastic job with the food and service. We were not expecting them to help clean up the tables! Our guests were impressed with being waited on at a backyard bbq! A Pleasant surprise. They kept the food coming and we had zero issues. This catering service is so wonderful. We have used them for two years for dinners at our church. They are always on time ,all the entrees are hot, and salads are cold. They have brought over the years such a variety of beautiful dishes from roast beef with real mashed potatoes and gravy , to poached salmon. Four or five varieties of salad is not unusal. So, if you are having alcohol and 4 hours YOU NEED TO ADD $24.00 A PERSON TO YOUR MEAL.
