The vibe is really laid-back and (I can't believe I am saying this) FUN! The coach is a great motivator and the people are very encouraging. The workouts were very tough but somehow also enjoyable. When I am back in New Braunfels I will definitely consider New Braunfels CrossFit my box! There is a very reasonable drop-in fee of $10. Side note--New Braunfels CrossFit is located ideally just a few blocks away from Granzin's Meat Market, so after your workout you can stop in and pick up Paleo diet supplies!

Pack your clubs and head north, north to New Braunfels, Texas and the Landa Park Golf Course, for a rewarding day on the links. A 45 minute drive from San Antonio, the course is nestled between the historic Comal River Power Plant, and the meandering Comal River. The towering smoke stacks of the plant mark the geographic location of the course, and the mirth and laughter of tubers on the river provide auditory proof that one has found the place. (A point of interest is that the Comal River was diverted by a canal in the 1800's, and the Plant was built aside the canal in 1925. It seems the near constant 70 degree water temperature was considered ideal for cooling the plant, and its electricity served the surrounding areas for decades. The plant has been closed for some years, was saved from the demolition ball, and has been repurposed for loft and garden apartments.) But, back to the course. Our recent visit found very welcoming counter staff and starter of very good humour! The fee? $29.00 plus $10.00 for the cart, a pretty reasonable week day, senior rate for a respectable golf course. One important consideration for the patron: NO DRIVING RANGE, so take your weighted club to loosen up prior to your round. The course features a large putting practice green, the surface of which closely mirrors the greens on the course. I did not spy a sand trap practice area. Golf carts are in excellent condition, featuring satellite range finder on board. Despite the record breaking heat of late, the fairways were in surprising condition, a very few bare spots, as one may expect. But the good news? The greens were perfectly tended, rolling fast and true, almost as rolling the dimpled ball on a carpet! There are water hazards along the course, and only two forced carries off the tee. On the front nine, meandering streams closely guard the approach to two greens: Achtung!! Peligro!! Danger Will Robinson!! Choose your clubs carefully! (speaking from unhappy experience here on the first of the two). There are dog legs to contend with, making for interesting play, but previous knowledge of the layout would definitely be advantageous for the patron. Interesting also: 3 par threes on the back nine. The player will find some elevation changes, again providing interest and challenge for club selection. The layout is fair, with no "tricked up" holes. Another visual treat: deer munching leaf salad along the course, ducks paddling the springs and ponds along the track. Our foursome totally enjoyed the course. The course is definitely not on the level as say, La Cantera, or TPC, or Barton Creek. But this is a VERY respectable track, and for the price, just can't be beat. (BTW, the level of skill of our foursome: usually scoring in the high 70's to high 80's) We will definitely return! Enjoy yelpers!!

The course is tough but rewarding with a lot of drivable greens and every hole is a scenic one. The warm up area includes a driving range (Balls provided), a very nice pitching area with sand traps, and a nice putting area to give you the false confidence that you're going to get warmed up and play a great round. Every person i talked to was incredibly nice and went out of there way to help us. Most of the complaints are from people who are trying to play with a 5-somewhere, or trying to bring someone who isn't going to play. You're playing a semi private course if you want to do this go to the municipal or go play putt putt.

However, in early 2020 (before COVID) when I visited CF Cibolo, they were absolutely beyond friendly. Every time I showed up for class, several members would remember my name, engage me in conversation, and genuinely made me feel super welcome... not just coaches or the owner... the MEMBERS! In fact, they made such an impression on me, I not only joined but began coaching there myself. Now, three years later, We have grown in membership but that feeling of community is as strong as ever! Dont' get me wrong, we like to work hard and get our sweat on... but owners misson statement could not be more reflective of the realty... Community first; fitness second!

Best box I have ever been to!…read more As I sit and reflect on yet another military PCS, I feel waves of happiness and sadness washing over me all at the same time. While San Antonio has been good to us this past year, the one thing I will definitely miss most is this community. I feel incredibly blessed to have been a part of such an amazing CrossFit family. I have met so many beautiful souls at The Shop and am grateful to have made some life long friendships.
