Haven't bought a bike here but loving my brand new hot coral pink kitty Kat helmet!!! They even had a matching bell!!! Like any boutique specialty store, the prices are high n the higher end here but the selection is outstanding and we always receive great service! They also provide complimentary bike check-ins during the St. Albert Farmers' Market. Last year they cut off an old lock for us free of charge. Two thumbs up! read more

My grandson did a tire repair on my bike, it wasn't riding properly. He did not have the tools or skills to undertake the repair. His Dad recommended Cranky's St. Albert. I called to find out if I needed an appointment to take the bike in...was told by a young man 'no, but it takes 10 days before repairs are able to be done. As an 83 year old daily rider I was disappointed but decided to 'suck it up'. We arrived at the shop as it was opening, my grandson explained to the fellow (middle age) what was going on with the bike - he immediately put it up on a stand and tested different components then told us the problem was due to the fact the wheel wasn't quite properly seated. He made the necessary adjustments and sent us on our way 'no charge'. I could have done a "Happy Dance'. I appreciate folks who operate with integrity and kindness. We recently purchased two bikes at Crankys, for myself and my son and the experience could not have been better. We first looked at a large bike shop in Edmonton, chose the models of bikes that we wanted and almost bought them. Just before we made the purchase my wife said that we should take a look at Cranky's to see what they had because we really like to support St Albert businesses. I figured the prices would be higher for sure but I agreed to take a look. I was shocked to find that both bikes were cheaper at Cranky's then at a really large bike store off White Avenue! This is the second time I've found stuff less expensive in St Albert when we always assume the price will be higher. Service was so good. .these bikes are going to last a long time so we won't be back for a while but I totally recommend Cranky's.. read more

last fall 2023 i wanted to take my bike in for its tune up first time. when I called I was told it was not free anymore and I have to bring it in within the first month To get my tune up at 1/2 price. so I didn't take it in. a few weeks later I received a call telling me yes it's true not free but it's actually 1/2 price. I was driving so I did not get the gentlemans name. either the manager or owner. he did offer me a free tune up. I was quite happy and said for the St. Albert store and they will know In the spring. I was assured they would know. i called to arrange a tune up March 2024 was told bring it in. I take the bike in and was told I should have booked an appointment, would have been nice to know when I called. its okay it's snowing I can wait. the thing that bothered me is the tune up is NOT FREE. and no they don't have a record for my complementary tuneup plus I have to pick up the bike 4 days after I get the call to ready, otherwise I have to pay storage fees. I brought my trek navigator bike to Crankys to rectify shifting issues on the front derailleur.They did a front Shimano adjustment and replaced a shifter cable. I road tested the bike afterwards twice and experienced the same issues, but they were unable to diagnose the problem . I finally took the bike home and had two other cyclists try it with the same results. We finally learned that we had to really reef on the shifter to shift gears successfully--a definitely abnormal condition which did not exist before we brought it in. Crankys did offer to look at the bike again ,but there's no way I'll bring it back. There was also one instance of discourtesy from a staff member as well. read more

Dealt with Nathan yesterday, looking specifically for a bike for my 6'2" 17 year old, an 11 year old who's grown a foot and a half since last summer, and for myself and my fiancee. Not only did Nathan take the time to really go over what we thought we were looking for, he tossed us out the door on a couple of different bikes to try before helping us choose which bikes to take home. The kids, unfortunately, weren't with us and we were told that if for any reason they had issues with the bike fit to bring everyone back to the store. Awesome experience. We took the bikes to Elk Island today for the first ride of the summer and had a blast. Will definitely be in here again. read more

Cranky's must be happy they're doing so well because they're in the process of expanding. It'll be great to see the store once they're finished. They carry strictly cycling gear with the exception of some skate helmets. They don't have a lot of bikes, mainly due to space I imagine, but that won't be an issue for long! They've got some cruiser bikes and race bikes. Sadly no fold-up bikes which is what I'm in the market for since I have no space for a bike. But the staff are friendly and they have a lot crammed into a small space - yet it all looks organized somehow. They'll be doubling in size very soon and I'm looking forward to seeing the expansion. read more

The next say I took it for a rip and noticed a wobble on the tire, called the service guy and he pretty much told me it's too bad that just the way it is with some pretty spicy attitude, I guess the name cranky works in their favor. Stopped in for an emergency derailleur adjustment and was charged $22. I appreciate that they were there and open and could make the repair, but charging that much for literally 3 minutes of work says a lot about the kind of company this is. I'd avoid in the future unless it is an emergency. read more

I was taking a bike to Cuba to give away and emailed all of the bike shops in the Edmonton area for a break on the cost of a tune up and boxing for the airplane. Some other shops offered a free box, one offered to box it for free, but Cranky's said they would box it and have a look to see what it needed. It did need some new parts and some TLC, which Cranky's supplied and then some. I did have to pay for the parts needed (as expected), but the service is what I am raving about. Fernando is someone I would trust to handle my biking needs, and will recommend Cranky's to anyone that needs honest service. Well done Cranky's !!! read more

Took my bike in for a brake bleed on April 3rd. Was called and about replacing brake pads and told them to go ahead. Was then told I had over torqued the front wheel therefore they had to break the lower fork stanchion?? They then suggested they might be able to warranty through Fox....anyway on May 25th, was told no warranty and no help as I was not the original owner and the bike was not maintained properly. Fernando then told me it was broke before they looked at the bike. I had my doubts but once I spoke with Fox , their tech said by looking at the fork it was a fresh brake and the bike was never ridden as it was clean. So...maybe you can buy a bike from this group but I would not let the service department touch anything. I am out 2 months of riding and $500. This place is a joke! read more

Very frustrating. Went in on Sat and checked out the sale. Found a bike my son really liked, but we made him think on it for a day. The girl said the sale was on for one more day. Sunday am we looked online and it said Cranky's was closed. Called Monday and they said the sale was over and they would not honor the price. They are aware of the online glitch, but not overly concerned with it. Its not really the money as much as the principle of the matter. Disappointing. read more

Staff was knowledgeable about all products and were able to check the back room for extra stock. The staff helped me find the products and information I wanted even though I'm not a bike expert and didn't always know the exact words for what I was looking for. Prices are as expected for any sports specialty shop...high. Then again, you do get what you pay for. Location is great but parking can be annoying especially when all of downtown St. Albert shuts down for useless events. read more

Awesome experience buying a bike here. The owner and staff are super knowledgeable, the shop is clean and organized, and the selection of products is really good for a smaller shop. Customer service here was the best I've had in a bike shop in a really long time, and buying my there felt good. I would recommend anybody go there for road or mountain. read more

Due to COVID 19 many customers with kids would not willingly choose to stand in line in the heat with their kids and their bikes for basic bike service. School has been canceled and parents are balancing having kids at home and running errands. Standing in line for customer service will never be practical esp in the upcoming summer heat. Even on a busy Saturday or after school hours may be busy for customers. You can really never know. Covid 19 may mean you can slow down the amount of people in the store but making an appointment and leaving a bike over a few days is more than reasonable during these times. When I tried to talk reason to your employee over the phone he came out to the back to see me but responded he did not have a piece of paper or a pencil to take my info. I would have left it there days if needed. Maybe he was struggling with what to do with me. He was not able to give me a clear answer and was unpleasant. I don't feel your policies of standing in line dealing with one customer at a time is reasonable. I guess I tried. Please allow people to drop off their bikes for basic tune ups by appointment. Some people don't live in St Albert and come further from the outlying areas to come in to see you. Thank you for your time and understanding. read more

What an awful experience. I had purchased two bikes at different times from this shop and had noticed a poor customer attitude. However I tried not to be impacted by that. So this time - while trying to buy a $600 bike for one of my sons, I noticed a scratch on the handle bars. Unfortunately they were mat black so the scratch was very noticeable. I asked how they would correct this and was told that I should PAINT IT MYSELF! I pointed out that this was a new $600 bike and had no intention of painting it. They then asked there repair people at which point I was told they could paint it but the colour wouldn't match. At this point I left the shop with a disheartened 14 year old. The young lady who initially served us was quite pleasant but could have been selling canned peas. The supervisor had on a wool hat (in doors on a hot day). Presumably it was this attire that had addled his brain. read more

First thing first! I saw few negative comments when I searched this place in google and was a little skeptical and kept them in the bottom of the list of shops I wanted to try in buying a new bike. I did manage to go and was pleasantly surprised with my experience with the shop and its personal. No pressures from the sales folks and I was able to get the bike that I wanted with all the information, I required. I also bought a new helmet and they seem to have good selection. I was extremely happy with the bike and the purchasing experience. The bike was fitted to my specifications with little wait time, which is understandable. I returned to the store to buy some good bike U lock in two weeks time. I did not mind the distance having to travel from West Ed to St. Albert. I will go again for other gears and accessories. I would highly recommend this place as it has a personal touch to it without the sales pressure I had seen in big bike shops. read more
