Quite honestly I like shopping here. Not only are they really community minded but they have very high quality of items for sale. I have especially liked coming here for special events and promotions in the past. Recently we purchased a child's bicycle and staff were so helpful in fitting the kid with a proper helmet and gloves along with making sure the bicycle fit properly. One of the best customer services I have ever received! I don't know why it took me 15 years to go to this place but I'm glad I went there. We were looking for bikes and one of my coworkers recommended this business. The place was huge, amazing, well organized with tones of products. I asked Lindsay for help and she spent about two hours with us. I tried 6 bicycles and in the middle of that, Calvin joined and the two of them helped us. Both Lindsay and Calvin were amazing! Friendly, honest and helpful! They did any possible thing to help us finding the bikes we wanted and were suitable for our skill level, heights and weight! For me customer service is the most important factor and I received one of the best customer services here! The place was well organized, the prices were good and I'll definitely go back there again for any sports needs. If you are looking for sporting equipment (particularly bikes), skip the national chains and big box retailers and make your way to United. You won't regret it. One thing I've always loved about United is their willingness to go above and beyond. If they don't have the exact size or product you're looking for, they will try to get it for you if their suppliers have it. When you're shopping for a bike, you get personalized one-on-one service and they're always happy to educate you. I've never felt talked down to by any of their techs which unfortunately is something I've experienced elsewhere. Due to COVID-19, I hadn't been to United in months, not because I didn't want to but because they've been so busy. Throughout the summer they always seemed to have a line out the door. Since I didn't need anything urgently, I decided to wait it out. Now that things have calmed down, I got to stop by the other day and it was like seeing an old friend after months apart. Avoid ordering jerseys from this company. I ordered team jerseys, and when we washed them after our first use, the colors bled, turning all the white parts pink. Despite this, the company refused to stand behind their product with a replacement or refund. They claimed I'd waited too long, even though it was less than a year, and I'd ordered in advance to ensure we had them ready for the season. Their only solution was a slight discount on a new order--a weak attempt to make me buy from them again after the first order was such a disaster. Bought headphones, turns out I didn't like them, returned with absolutely zero fuss. Most helpful clerk at returns, even spoke with the purchaser for United about the headphones who inquired about the return, and confirmed my experience was not unique. The headphones aren't bad, they just don't fit my little bean well. The most knowledgeable staff on baseball in town. Last week I was dealing with a baseball bat return issue and as it was well within it's warranty this wasn't an issue. Everything was sorted out, I had my receipt to come back later to get a new bat (time was tight), left the broken bat and was walking to the car. That's when the great guy I was dealing with, Wilson is his name, comes running out bat in hand saying "No man! Keep the bat until you come back!". I thought this wasn't necessary as I had the receipt. So yesterday I'm looking for the receipt. Couldn't find it. Luckily I still had the bat that Wilson left his very busy cash register to return to me in the parking lot. Fantastic guy. The return process was easy and Wilson deserves a raise. read more

Despite the name including "cycle", United has so many more items than just bikes and related items. My husband used to come here on an annual trip to get baseball and softball supplies in the spring, and on the few occasions I've gone with him, I've always been blown away by how big this store is, and how much selection they have. Pretty much any sports items you would want, they have. This includes a wide variety of discs for disc golf, as well as practice targets and a few other accessories. Earlier this spring, United was first on my list for places to check around the city for a cruiser bike for myself, and I was pleased to find what I was looking for here, at my first stop. The sales associate I worked with was knowledgeable, friendly, and helped me find a helmet and other items easily, including spin shoes for my indoor spin bike. It was nice to shop in a store where they had everything, and in good stock, and I enjoyed shopping in person rather than online (my 2020 and 2021 normal mode of purchasing). I did have a couple of small issues that bumped United down from a five to a four star rating. The first is that their check out area has been reconfigured for "social distancing", but the aisles are so narrow that my husband and I felt uncomfortable with how close we were to people on either side of us in different aisles. The store was busy and we couldn't wait to get out of the line. Secondly, the assembly of my bike had some problems. When we picked it up, the staff member handed it over and disappeared back into the store. At home, we found that the seat wasn't secured (which caused a big whoop when I sat on it and pitched forward), and the brakes were not fully connected, and were also not aligned correctly on the tires. I'm thankful my husband had the patience to sit with tools and YouTube for a couple of hours, because I probably would have had to take the bike back to fix these things. We've been long time shoppers at United, and will continue to be, but I would likely consider another bike shop in town if I were buying a higher end bicycle, and if I wanted a little higher quality of service. read more

I think I can safely say United Cycle is the largest bike store in the city, although Western Cycle might be close. When I want parts for my old bike United Cycle is where I go. It's also my first choice if I'm looking for a whole new bike. When I bought my racing bike there they sold me a barely used one at a really good price. They were willing to bargain and barter, and threw in a new seat post for $150 and gave me $80 off an $1,100 bike. My only complaint is their service department is always busy, especially in the spring. If you want to get your bike fixed at that time of year you could end up waiting two weeks or more, so do what I didn't do, and make an appointment in the winter. The prices of repairs here are pretty much competitive with other stores. read more

I've been to United shopping for a baseball glove, hockey gear, a couple bikes, and more. Each time I was met with the same level of consistent help and a huge selection to choose from. Sports stores of this size can be intimidating at times as you search through the various levels of quality and sizes necessary for each sport but it's great to have someone to help. Their bike sales and maintenance staff are excellent and in a recent experience with their bike maintenance team, they went above and beyond in trying to repair a bike I bought there a year ago. While they were unable to solve the issue at hand, they contacted me throughout the process to provide updates on the situation and gave me a very generous credit toward a new bike. The expertise, consistent communication, and willingness to provide me with a generous solution to my bike issues truly demonstrated how committed they are to exemplary service and upholding United's reputation. You always have to keep an eye out for their tent sales when they have amazing deals on shoes, bike accessories, and other sports gear. Our family LOVES United Cycle! Not only do they have an excellent selection of bike stuff and clip shoes (which I love for spin class) but they carry tons of other fitness and workout gear... We've also bought many an Oilers themed goodies for our toddler there - including the only place we found Oilers Wood Alphabet Blocks... that's right, I said old school wooden alphabet blocks! I love their big sales, too! A few months back I picked up two pairs of Helly Hansen runners (the mesh kind that are breathable) for $19.99 a piece... originally around $100 a piece! Gosh... I love sales! If you're a big Oilers fan... it is worth your time to sign up for their e-mail list as they have autograph sessions several times a year! Don't be fooled by the name because the store isn't just about bikes. They have a huge selection of hockey equipment (Nets, skates, sticks, etc). What I really like about this store is how helpful the staff is when you are looking for skates. They help find the perfect ones for you, whether it's for playing or just regular skating, and they make sure they fit you perfectly. Once you pick out the skates you need, they put them in an oven type contraption, heat them up, and give them back to you to put on. This is a process I haven't seen at any other store. While the skates cool down they pretty much mold to the basic shape of your foot, so they are always fitted just for you. It's not my first choice for equipment but since I haven't seen so much care put into getting the perfect fitting skates anywhere else this would be my first stop. read more

I told the salesperson that I wanted a low-priced, reasonably light bike. He led me right to the perfect bike. I managed to pick up an extra helmet, gloves, and lock without going too over my budget. The service area is also huge - and busy. This place is the king of bikes!! We went here yesterday in search of a bike and the place was really well laid out. All the prices were visible and the bikes were placed so you could take a good look at it. We went outside to try out some of the bikes too. They had bikes lined up and you were allowed to take any bike and try it out in a fenced area. They made it clear that you had to wear a helmet though, and they provided helmets for you to wear while trying out a bike. There was not many bikes in our cheapo price range, but we did find a used one for $40.00 I was convinced there was something wrong with it, but the salesperson said they would never sell a bike if there was something wrong with it. After riding it around a bit, my boyfriend said we would probably have to tighten the brakes and maybe get new wheels and I wasn't in the mood for getting a fixer upper. All in all, this store is a great one. There is a ton of selection and the staff are helpful. The only thing I have to say against it is that they didn't have enough staff on. However, you will get what you pay for. Part of the experience is the atmosphere of the building knowing the original part of the store was old building material from a local church. United cycle is more than just bikes. If you have ever driven past and thought by it's name that's all they have, you are obviously not shopping at the right sports store then. Once you enter united cycle you are greeted with a plethora of sporting gear. Never have I seen so many sports in one store. They have your every athletic need from running gear, football, soccer, hockey (inline and ice), lacrosse and many many more. If you are looking for a specific item for your sport united cycle will have it. In all my years going there for goalie and football I've yet to not find an item I needed. One of the best parts of united cycle is how knowledgable the staff is. Everyone is hired for a specific area of the store so if you need goalie equipment you know you will be talking to someone who plays goalie and knows exactly what you need and can answer all your questions. United cycle even carries a full line of apparel like under armor and various other athletic brands. They also have jerseys and hats and much more fan fare items. Let's also not forget you can take your skates or pretty much any piece of sports equipment that can be fixed to them and they will fix it up for you. Overall united cycle is a one stop shop for any sporting goods need. It's staff really helps make the process of looking for equipment painless. I went to buy dodgeballs for Reservoir Dodge spring season, and stupidly I had waited to long to get them in time off of Amazon. I thought maybe there might be some place in town that sells them? Google told me that nobody in Edmonton sold them. Don't believe me ? Google it. I eventually gave up and started calling any store that might carry them. United Cycle funnily did. I thought they were just cycles. You know, like, ding ding, pedal bikes. Turns out I was in look and got a hold right away of somebody who knew 1. What a dodgeball is 2. Had exactly the balls I wanted. 3. The prices were very comparable to Amazon (vs the F U price I was expecting) While waiting on hold , I heard on their phone message that you could $10 off if you were going to buy online. I asked them when they got back onto the phone if I could do that in store "NO, was the answer" They DID however have a pick up instore as an option. So I could theoretically do this. Order online, and pick up in STORE! Hilarious. I walked into the store, and omg! this place is huge, it's what a sportscheck should look like. They had pretty much everything. To put into perspective, they had a GLOVE steamer for baseball mitts. I never knew such things existed. They also had a huge rack of Marvel Under Armour shirts, and DC skateboards. All I could think of was, "whoa, now this a sport store." The next thing that super impressed me was, I was greeted within 30 seconds, and then greeted again in 2 minutes. This was a well run operation. Then I went to the dodgeball area, and got exactly the balls I wanted. I got 2 types. I bought 2 red balls, and 1 blue ball, because who needs a set of blue balls? Not this guy. This is when I ran into the snag. Their online store didn't carry the red ball. Nope. They had to have somebody enter it into the online store (I wait patiently). Then when I checked, they had actually entered an incorrect ball. Another version of the blue ball. (I wait, not so patiently) Then finally they enter the right SKU for the red ball. They also then give me the sku # so I can enter it in to the search bar. I patiently create an account online on my phone, enter the items and try to pay. It was a huge failure. It kept saying "missing a field" even when they were all clearly filled out. At this point I am no longer so patient and give up. Miles, who was helping me out in the store actually walked me down and made sure I got the discount at the till. Hurray! Still a little grumpy about their online experience, but the store itself is amazing! Pros. I was a little concerned when Peter in service told me after having my bike and my daughters bike for nearly a week, that it would be another 8 days before they could do any work on it. It took a week for someone TO LOOK at the two bikes that only required a quick tune up (less than a days work), then it would take an additional weeks wait to actually get another mechanic to look at it. Worst experience ever....especially after my bike was just in United cycle for a $100 tune up less than 2 weeks ago. So far, they've had my bike for longer than me. The bill is an additional $350. I wouldn't recommend anyone that is getting work on old bikes done there as they prioritize new bike sales over used bike tunes. Save yourself the hassle and go elsewhere. They were rude and I felt rushed and pressured into the sale of a new bike, and therefore the tune of my older bikes took forever. I won't be going back. read more

This is a sporting goods store for real athletes and players. This is not your shopping mall variety poseurs' sporting goods store. This is not a Sports Chek, which is 80 percent "fashion" and 20 percent sporting goods seconds. This is where people who sweat buy their gear. This is also one heck of bike store; BMX, Mountain and Road. If you're actually playing hockey, lacrosse, soccer, badminton, curling, baseball or into cycling, this is your candy store. They have the City's best selection of quality gear for people who play. It's all serious stuff, so this isn't a discount or bargain outlet. Expect to pay fair prices for quality goods. There is also a good selection of technical clothing for players. I understand you can equip your team head to toe with gear, footwear and customized uniforms as well. They have everything, and by this I mean everything: base-layers, socks, footwear, cleats, skates, uniforms or training clothes, pads, guards, balls, gloves, pucks, bats, brooms, helmets, sticks, rackets, stick-em, wax, oil and bikes (Commuter, BMX, Mountain, Road). All of it, competition quality. The icing on the cake? The friendly staff actually know about and probably play the sports they sell gear for. A skate fitting can take an hour and be sure to get advice on how to get them custom sharpened. I get the same feeling walking through there as I do at Disneyland. read more

I think the staff were wondering if my friend's husband actually worked there or not but didnt have the same outfit ;). Staff were pleasant and helpful. Always someone around. Its a great sporting goods store where you can find gear for anything. I went bike shopping and they had an area to try out riding bikes which i liked. I havent ridden one in ages, so to be able to try it out first was a bonus. Clean and with servicing for the good you buy is just a bonus. I was impressed because it did feel organized and clean. United Cycle is one of my favourite businesses in Edmonton. Hands down. I don't own a bike, and I haven't been on one in many years - but if that changes I know where I will go. I am quite active and play volleyball, go to yoga classes and various fitness classes around Edmonton throughout the year. I have never been to another sporting goods store with such selection, knowledgeable staff and great atmosphere combined. I always feel so welcome when I walk in the door and there are numerous employees around to ask questions as needed. They carry such a variety of sporting good supplies I often find myself dreaming about all the new sports I could take up one day, when I have a bit more time and money on my hands! Their apparel selection is HUGE! If you love and live in active wear 90% of the time, like I do, you will be in heaven! They often have great clearance racks too! I love the displays and the way the store is organized, I often find myself walking out of there with WAY more than I had planned on - not because of pushy sales people but because of the way the store is laid out I find things I forgot I needed, but that compliment what I was originally going in for! read more

I've been going to United Cycle for many many years for all my sporting goods purchases. They are a lot more than bikes -- I've bought gear for hockey, soccer and snowboarding but I've never bought a bike there! Unlike many other sports store chains in the area, United Cycle's staff has generally been very knowledgeable and helpful. If you're picking out new hockey skates or trying to find a good stick for you, someone is always there to give you some advice. The reason I've been going there lately is because of their skate sharpening. I've had a few really bad sharpenings from other places in town (so bad that I couldn't play) but never a bad experience with United Cycle. They can do it while you wait in 5-10 minutes, which gives you enough time to browse at their jerseys, autographed pictures and other gear. I think sharpenings are about $5 and there is a card you can buy so that it's cheaper, which I will do once hockey season picks up again. The only downside is they aren't open Sundays, but I can respect that they want to be closed for one day to let their employees have family time. read more

I'd give a 1000 stars for their tent sale that happens in July. The deals you get there are crazy insane amazing. I bought two decent tennis rackets for 35$ at the tent sale which was 50% of the original price. I almost dropped 400$ for skis as well. However, at the last second realized that I still suck enough at skiing to not invest in a decent pair yet. But you can rest assured that I'll be there July 2015! Outside of the tent sale I purchased a bike here recently. The sales person was new who sold it to me, but he did get help from others when I had a number of questions that needed answering. It did take about 10 mins of me looking at a bike for salesperson to approach me though. This is longer than I thought it would be. However, they were excellent once I purchased the bike getting it ready for me. Even told me about taking good care of it. I believe there is 1 year cover on adjustments for the bike. So anytime you need a few minor things adjusted, like cables, etc., you can bring it to tune it. Overall I love united cycle. It is one of the few places where I can spend hours just looking through sporting equipment. My cash flow however hates this place! read more

For general sports goods, they have a lot of variety and friendly staff. But maybe get your board done at a board or ski shop. Sometimes the staff does not have specialized knowledgeable for specific tasks. I got my snowboard waxed and fitted here at the end of the season. I specifically requested by bindings be adjusted smaller and provided them with my boots so they could get the fit right. When I returned the next day, I noticed they had not changed bindings at all, but changed me the extra fee for the adjustment. When I told a staff member he had forgotten to do the adjustment, he stated that my board was already adjusted properly. I had put put on both shoes and point out to him where my bindings did not fit. Only then, he went back and did the adjustment I requested. Careful if you get your board or ski's set up here!! I'm worried someone will get injured when their board is not set up properly. read more

Went and got a brand new bike at united cycle today! Very educated staff a little to educated as some things they were asking if I wanted I had know idea what that ment. But I am not complaining it is great to go somewhere and have great customer service. If you were planning to even buy a cheap bike from wal-mart (Which I was) check out United Cycle they do have lower prices for some cheaper model bikes as well. I have 4 sons, so even though this store costs a little bit more than the WalMarts and Zellers of the world, it is worth every penny. They have re-fit bike helmets purchased there for me yearly, and as a single mom helped me find what I need for kids' sports when I don't know the equipment or sport. Also, the last time we were in, my boys were playing in the stick and puck area and my youngest got hit by his brother with a backswing. A young man working there (I wish I could remember his name!!!!!) took my little guy, got him an ice pack, and got him a hockey stick and taped it for him, all comp'd. I was buying a hockey stick to play with my boys and he searched the racks to find me the cheapest one. Honestly, service just doesn't get better than this place. United Cycle is a fantastic bike shop along Gateway Boulevard. I've had my bike for a long time, but it was mostly for recreational riding along the trails. When I moved to the city and was car-less for about a year, I decided it was time for some upgrades. I added a basket to the front of my bike for about $80, plus around $40 for the service team to add it on (I was definitely clueless about how to attach it myself). It was totally worth it! It made trips to the grocery store on colder days much more efficient! Come for the bikes and cycling accessories, but stay for all of the extra sports equipment they carry! I came here to pick up a donation that United Cycle very graciously offered for my sons elementary school fundraiser. I thought I may as well take a peek around the store while I was there and I was happy to see a clean, well-stocked and VERY well-staffed store (a couple staff members in each department, nobody was bugging me but they were all within arms length if I had a question). The departments were all clearly marked and I easily found a parking spot. When I picked up my donation, the girl pulled out a binder that showed that this business donates A LOT.
