This is a specific call-out to Abdula at Mud Sweat and Gears. He went over and above to help me figure out if I could add aero-bars to my e-bike. I I ride long distances on this bike and my hands get numb after a while and so wanted to add these aero-bars. The bars I bought last year from United Cycle wouldn't stay on though since the handle bar is not a uniform width. Abdula explored multiple options including new handlebars and ultimately discovered that there were ways to reconfigure the ones I had to make them work. He spent many hours messing around and researching options. In the end he figured it out and charged me only for the time to install them (as well as a gear fix that needed doing). Amazing service. They moved to a new grander location. The service work on the bikes is very good. The tune up on my bike was amazing and seems to be lasting. Wait times are weeks, so you need to book early. The place feels more upscale and they likely are paying higher rent. A basic bicycle tune up is now $150. And it doesn't include the wheels. A nearby bike shop is only $100. And they quoted replacement sprockets and chain would get me over $400 dollars. So this place seems expensive in my view. For that price I could just buy a new bike. Hippy types at the front counter in hoodies, wish they had clear identifiable work attire. Selection of bikes and accessories is good so I would go there for that but I would seek bike service elsewhere. read more

Not good customer service in the service department. Bike was fine until work was done on it there.

Brought in my snowboard that had gouges and not sharp I need to be re-waxed and within four or five days we got it back and it looked like a brand new snowboard. The waxing job was perfect. All the gouges were gone it was really sharp and it was perfect. I totally recommend this shop read more

Not impressed with their attitude towards electric bikes. They refused to change out my tires because quote "we do not work on electric bikes". But the kicker is I phoned in twice and asked if my tires can be swapped out on my electric bike and was told "no problem, bring it in". Looks to be to many young people with no communication with management. NOT impressed. read more

So we were on a search for a bike. Before we started looking, we had set some goals for the perfect bicycle. It needed to be in good shape so we wouldn't have to work on it. It needed to be cheap. That was it. We went to Mud, Sweat & Gears after being referred to it by a staff member at Totem. We walked into the store and it was filled with beautiful high end bikes. The store manager came up and asked us if he could help us. We explained what we were looking for and he showed up a bike that was on sale for $299. We explained that even that was above our price range and he told us to check out the used bikes outside and he would meet us out there. We walked outside and saw about 10 bikes. One of them caught my eye and it was only $80.00. The manager met us outside and joked around about the weather and gave us information about the bike. He was so friendly and relaxed. We ended up wanting to buy the bike, but we couldn't transport it in our tiny car. He offered to store it in the back and we could pick it up whenever. He also said he would get his mechanic to look it over before we came back for it. This guy was so helpful and friendly! It made buying the bike a joy. He also told us we would save money by going somewhere else to get accessories like a lock, a helmet and a bell. It was nice that he was honest. We wil be back later on to buy a bike for my boyfriend. After visiting many stores in search of a bike, I wish we had just come here in the first place! read more

Worst experience ever, brought my bike in perfect working condition only to have it un ridable and almost $400 later, and then to have them they can't help me and hang up in me. I use my bike a my only mode of transportation 30km a day to and from work so have a bike that worked fine with no problems to a bike I can't even stand up to peddal on after they got their hands on it is un exceptable bussiness practice. All just fur a tune up! Very unskilled worker, they look the part but no nothing about bikes or customer service. read more

DO NOT GET YOUR BIKE SERVICED HERE. I brought in my Specialized Enduro Expert for service after last year's season. Wanted a full tune up and to put on a smaller front chainring to make going uphill a bit easier. Cost just over $1,000 for parts and labour. No problem with that at all. First ride of the season - rear brake has no braking power, derailer changes gears on its own, and lowest gear was slipping. Take it back and speak with Blake. He said the rear brake probably had a leak and needed to be replaced (was working fine the last ride before taking it in but no longer worked after they serviced it...). He also apologized for the bad tune and vowed to fix it. Just over $300 for a new rear brake. First ride out the rear brake lever breaks and the lowest gear is still slipping. So I'm out approx. $1,300 and now have to pay another shop to put on a new brake lever and try figure out why the lowest gear is slipping (my guess is they put the wrong size chain on when they replaced the front chainring or they didn't tighten it enough, but I don't know enough about bikes myself). So I will never ever take a bike to Mud Sweat and Gears for service again. Or buy from them for that matter. Buyer beware! read more

Sherwood park location is notorious for pushing bikes that don't properly fit the customer. I've seen this happen twice in person on separate occasions. I couldn't believe how unsafe this practice is. buyer, if you don't know how a mtn bike is supposed to fit you, please simply google .. it will tell you what bike frame you are based on height. I feel they're pushing inventory out the door. bought two bikes there, will never return. read more

Customer service at the Sherwood Park location is terrible at best. Employees care more about their circle of friends then customers. Shop is small. Pre-ordered 2 bikes for April 2021 and finally got them September 2021. They never contacted me of the changes to the bikes to let me know that something was being changed on the bike or that the original bike that was pre-ordered was not available and the replaced with a new model while paying more for the newer model. I pre-ordered a large and a medium bike but when i went to pick up the bikes they were trying to tell me that i order 2 mediums and after they realized their mistake that had to pull the the large off of display to give to me. Not impressed, will be avoiding this store for years. read more

They have a ton of staff that have been there a very long time. Best ski shopping experience ever! Staff are relaxed, patient and knowledgeable. Gear selection is great, from the beginner to expert. We had a good idea of what we wanted but left better informed and with better ski gear than planned and for a better price! We are from Ontario and would come back anytime. read more

My family moved to Sherwood Park approximately 10 years ago and as avid cyclist we always feel it is important to get to know your local bike shop. During that time we have fostered a relationship with MSG and have gotten to know the owner and staff. The customer service we have received has always been great - whether it was buying a new bike, accessories or service. Last year, after much research, I purchased a fairly high level bike from the store. Overall the bike was great, but the wheels that manufacture used had issues with the spokes. After only a few rides the spokes loosened and fell out. Unfortunately this was not a one-time occurrence and something that I continually had to deal with. The service staff was always accommodating and generally repaired the wheels the same day. Since the issue could not be resolved, I contacted the manufacture directly to voice my concerns. Their response was that they were sorry, but I needed to contact the store where I bought my bike. To me this was not MSG's issue and was the responsibility of the manufacture to deal with. I forwarded the e-mail to the owner of MSG, indicated their response frustrated me and I left it at that. Approximately two days later the owner of MSG contacted me and told me that he had talked to the sales representative and that I could expect a new set of wheels from the manufacture. To me this exceeds normal customer service. I did not ask the owner of MSG to contact the manufacture or pursue the issue any further then where it was left. The owner of MSG took it upon himself to resolve it only because "I was a good customer". I understand that this may not be a common response from a manufacture, but I sincerely appreciate the fact the owner of MSG respected my concerns and went the extra mile to ensure the issue was resolved. read more

The gears on our bike kept giving way so we listened to the sonic 102.9 advertisements and took it Mud Sweat and Gears for a repair. Turn-around time was quick, one week instead of the quoted three, however, after we received our bike and paid ~$200, we decided to take it for a test ride just before driving home. The breaks gave out again. We returned to the store quite disgruntled and my husband was in pain because when the gears let go again, he hit his knee on the bike when pedaling down. We said "we just paid ~$200 for a fix, and you gave us new breaks and gears and didn't solve our problem. It's like going into a auto-mechanic for an oil change and they decide to replace the engine and charge you for it". They were accommodating and one of the guys in the back, Cayle (sp?) was able to see that it was a gear issue that costs $20 to fix, and we appreciated that he said it would take half an hour for him to fix. He quickly fixed the issue for free (?) and the bike is in perfect working order. We felt very uncomfortable with complaining. The representatives stated that there were just kids in the back learning and not experts and that's why the problem was overlooked. We appreciate the problem being rectified, however, it was not a good experience, we feel our request was not properly triaged and the 'standard' tune up package was provided in loo, and we do not feel there are qualified professionals providing an expensive and necessary service for the job we paid and expected them to perform. read more

After reading the good reviews about this place I felt confident we wouldn't be disappointed. So last week June 14 2016 off I went with our bikes. After explaining to the service guy what I wanted looked at (new chain, kick stand, water bottle holder, reposition my breaks on my handle bars) and my boyfriend's bike (new tire tube and tune up his brakes) I was told I had to purchase the silver package for me and bronze for my bf. He rattled off all that is included and I didn't quite understand all this stuff but agreed thinking he has my bikes interest at heart. "As long as my issues and my bf's issues are taken care of" he replied "your bikes will be like brand new" A day later I was called that additional parts were needed on my bf's bike and I should upgraded to silver package for him. While this persons English was terrible after questioning him he agreed that charging 20.00/hr for the new part is cheaper than upgrading the package. (I still don't understand why we need a package) they called the same day that the bikes were ready. My boyfriend tested his brakes on the spot and said "hey buddy my brakes are not fixed" "yes the are just try them out at home, if you're not satisfied you have 30 days" as we loaded our bikes in the truck by bf said "they didn't touch my brakes!' Sure enough at home 10 mins later his brakes are exactly the same and his tire is going flat! WTF? My bike began squealing with each pedal rotation and I noticed my brakes we not repositioned on my handle bars like I asked. Fast forward to this morning when I called to express my disappointment in buying these packages that they sell did not fix our issues ($380.00 I might add) I was given a not so caring response "you have 30 days just bring them back" In my experience in customer service is you should get it right in the first place and be more concerned when and unsatisfied customer calls you. So my bf brought in the bikes and while trying to explain the issues he was interrupted and a disagreement of what was done and what was supposed to be done. Turns out they only inflated his tire and not replaced the tube so it was completely flat. My bearings were rubbing that's why the squealing noise was there because they didn't re position my brakes (another oversight) but they were sure quick to say what the silver tune up did get me. - But all I wanted was my issues fixed. So our bikes are still there and hopefully we will get them back in working condition. And that will be the end of our relationship with Mud Sweat and Gears - Sherwood Park Update- just got a call back they replaced the tube, adjusted the brakes on both bikes and assured me everything is done. I asked why these items were missed in the first place and was told they were not written on the work order. So I think only a bronze tune up on my bf bikes was all that was done and a silver tune up on mine. Our reason for bringing them in was like dust in the wind. This is a company out to make money first with customer care last. read more

This service department leaves much to be desired, because of a time crunch this year (I usually do my own bike work) I took my bike in for servicing in the winter months and it took forever. When I got it back I ended up doing all the work over again myself because of the poor job. The store is packed with staff in the peak hours and you'll be lucky if you can find one of them that is knowledgeable in bikes. This is the closet bike store to my house and I won't spend another cent in this here, very disappointed. read more

Terrible shop, i brought our older bike in to get new tires and a tune up, specifically mentioning that it wasn't shifting right. When i picked it up and took it home, the shifter was exactly the same, despite the 90.00 charge for a tune up which included aligning the gears as well as possible with existing hardware. Brought it back and told them to go over it again. They couldn't fix it after 1/2 hour i left and came back the next day. They said it needed a new part, and did i want to buy the new part. I did, and came back the next day. Silly me i took it home without a test ride, and it now won't shift properly to the low gear instead. Avoid the service desk, they have no idea what they are doing. read more
