Updating my review. 1. The store management finally responded after I threatened to file a small claim against them after 8 emails. 2. Their fix is to process a return, take everything back, and do a new order for the bed and have us wait an extra 3 months. 3. For the inconvenience, they determined that a 10% refund was all they were willing to do for their mess up leading to us sleeping on the ground for 5 months total. That's $270. That barely even covers the cost of the Uhaul we had to get to go pick up the bed from the Naperville warehouse. 4. Customer service was unbelievably rude (I was nice because they didn't personally cause the problem) and repeatedly said I had to deal with store management before they would deal with us. See comment 1. Crate and Barrel has beautiful furniture. Their logistics and customer service are the worst of any furniture company I have ever dealt with. Skip them. It's not worth it at all. Crate and Barrel is a go to for our flat, stem and tableware resulting from our engagement/marriage many moons ago. After several years of cohabitation some items gifted to us from Crate and Barrel broke due to our own clumsiness. That being said we had to replace a few things. Thankfully our collection of tableware is still in production so occasionally I come to the Old Orchard location to pick up what's in stock. Shelby was wonderful yesterday! I'll start off with that as my Monday afternoon shopping experience was flawless. I came in there with my 7 month old and had a window to do some quick shopping even though I went in there to buy chopsticks, over $300 later I had a few bags. Her suggestions were great for a 22" vase we have and i also scooped up some wine glasses and other accessories. Shelby knew taking 3 bags out with a stroller was going to be tough so she suggested to do to the back of the store to do a curbside pickup which was handy. Also I had to change a diaper so she walked me to the elevator directing me to the 2nd floor to the restroom the she took the elevator up to point me in the right direction. My experience at the Crate and Barrel on Sunday, June 15, 2025 was disappointing. The employees' approach to customer service could be perceived as profiling, instead of giving an extra hand in assisting customers. I came into the Skokie store with my adult daughter, a Lake Forest Graduate, Project Manager for a major company, who was looking to purchase a specific type of storage jar. She asked me to accompany her for the exact reason that she did not want to be profiled as a young Black American female who could not afford to purchase items in Crate and Barrel-Skokie. Fortunately, she found the two small weck jars, after shopping around at William Sonoma and other stores, at that point, she decided to hold them in her hands while we went upstairs to look at their furniture, only because I was in search of a coffee table. We were then followed by an African American sales guy, who I am sure was sent, to ask her to give him the two small jars until she were ready to purchase them. He sat them on the counter upstairs and monitored us as we moved around. Now, a better approach would have been for him to bring a basket for her to be able to carry them around until she was ready to purchase them. While the intent might not have seemed obvious, but it was, and the approach could have been welcoming. I hope this is corrected for future customers. Thank you read more

This Crate & Barrel is 2 floors, where the 1st floor offers everything kitchen-related, and the top floor has everything furniture-wise. I am currently obsessed with their flavored Cappuccino Cookies, in which C&B partnered up with the Long Grove Confectionery. These thin chocolate wafers are covered with a cappuccino-flavored white coating, sprinkled with ground espresso, and drizzled with dark chocolate. YUM! In the market for a salt or a pepper grinder? There's a station where you can try out the different models, and you can grind away in a box that is set up for you! The staff here are super friendly and welcoming, and checks-in with each customers periodically to make sure that everyone is doing okay and have every questions answered. Customer service at the store was amazing. I was ordering off of a wedding registry. I ordered three items, One was sent with in two days. The second was partially sent, and the remailing articles on this article are back ordered to February, but when I ordered it the web site said end of December. The third item was noted that it was being shipped from California two days ago, and i just for notification that it went to fedex and will be arriving on the 31st of dec, 15 days after i placed my order. From what i am hearing this is not unusual for this store, I remember then this store was not a corporate owned chain and things where shipped promptly. I am wondering if the bride and groom have been notified of what the gift was and they may receive the total gift by their first anniversery. I will not do this again and I would not recommend ordering things off of the registery unless they are in stock at the time that you purchase them. Was my in store experience ORDERING my furniture great? Yes! We had a great sales rep (Elen) and were excited to get our furniture. We weren't nuts about the $300 delivery fee from Naperville, so we coordinated with Customer Service to get an early pickup from their warehouse. I showed up, and their PM shift leader, John, refused to even look up my order. "We don't do that"...."Nope"..."Sorry we don't do that". Their customer service helpline then told me I in fact could, and they couldn't get 'John' to pick up his phone at the warehouse. TLDR: I wasted 3hrs commuting roundtrip to Naperville, never got my furniture, and went to a competitor. I'm a lifelong Crate and Barrel detractor now. Go to West Elm. read more

I love the quality of their stuff and the wide selection. I also love the fact that there is never a wait. Many of my visits in the last few years to this location were for gift buying. I am always guaranteed that I can be in and out in under fifteen minutes and regardless of what I choose, the recipient is going to love it. Okay, I have good taste as well. I do my homework online at C&B.com and have an idea of what I will purchase. I love getting an entrance and exit greeting when shopping. I also love that I can get gifts wrapped in that nice C&B box (at no extra charge) and when I place that box on the gift table at the event I'm headed too, there is a moment of excitement that enters the expectations of the recipient. Remembering a wedding I attended a couple years back, the bride told me that when she made her walk into her reception she was excited when seeing two large C&B boxes on her gift table. I have been shopping at C&B for decades and rarely leave the store without having whatever I needed in hand. Short story: Why C&B is such a good store: We bought an outdoor table for our patio about 7 years ago. It has performed beautifully, but when I pulled it out of the garage recently, I found that the rubber on one of the foot adjusters had cracked and fell off. It's been years since I've been in here (Actually they've moved to a different space since the last time I visited.) but C&B doesn't disappoint. The store is bright and airy, and there's a nice mix of home goods in a range of prices. They're not afraid of color here, a pleasant antidote to the neutral haze I'd been in at Restoration Hardware. I have a friend who says that everyone has a "right price" in mind for virtually everything. In other words, I know that the right price for a coat doesn't go over $300, no matter what. Or that I will not pay more than $5 for a pen. Crate and Barrel fits really neatly into my "right price" range with stylish furniture that is also well made. I was stunned to find a hand-held Oxo mandoline for $15. That's a bargain! The atmosphere here is so cheerful and helpful that I'd be very surprised if a serious shopper could leave there without buying something. Nice place. I'll be going back. read more

It was my first visit to this location. For a place with household goods and kitchen accessories, I like to have something nice but not over the top. I was quite impressed with the variety of glassware and furniture. There was this sectional couch that was amazing and so comfortable. The dinner sets and silverware sets were a little disapointing for the lack of variety. I prefer something old fashioned as to something contemperorary, but it's a perfect collection if that is what you're looking for. The customer service could use a little more boost. I walked around for a half hour on the top level with out a greeting. It wasn't until I came to the first level for the second time that someone made the suggestion to see if they had the marble top dining room table I was looking at in stock. Just had terrible experience. Ordered $100 Coffee pot/ cream/sugar set at 10 am. Received email saying confirmed pick up time between 1-2. They charged my card. At 1:15 I get a call saying half my order is not available for pickup.. that I will have to cancel or back order. (This is a gift for a housewarming party today at 4 pm btw) ~Then~ they tell me item is available for pickup at another location... I say "fine... change my pickup store". They say no can do, They tell me I have to do a completely separate order and pay for everything a second time. Now I'm waiting for them to refund my checking account, they haven't even sent me an email confirming the cancelled order 45 minutes later. Zero stars for this location. I placed my order online, to save me the stress of going into a store during the busy Christmas season, boy did they have a surprise for how to test my patience. I arrived to pick up my online order, after circling the parking lot for a good 30 minutes, and parking far away, oh well. The greeter lady was pleasant until she couldn't find my order. She called several folks in the back to look for it, with descriptions of where TWO bags are located. 15 min later, still no bags. I asked if everything is ok, no response from the lady until several minutes later. After about a good impatient 30 min, finally someone comes out with one package. Wait, where's the other. The guy who brought it out, immediately got defensive, "no, there is only one bag, one bag!". I asked how everything was packaged, cause it seemed I'd be missing a set of glasses. "Oh we know how to effectively package!" hmm, since everything was boxed up and sealed, I took his word for it. As I had 4-5 boxes, I didn't want to open each up there and then have to figure out how to walk back to the car with open boxes and glass flying. I get home, and to my surprise, 8 glasses are missing. I call back, put on hold for 20 minutes while someone searches. No one ever picked backup, called again. No "Hello welcome to crate and barrel" instead "oh its you again". WTF? I haven't even unleashed the wrath that was going to come and these "reps" were being rude and lazy. They asked me to recount my stuff, because I signed a paper that everything was there at pickup. Yes, I signed it and stated everything was boxed up, I picked up a very large order with many boxes, did they expect me to open & inspect each item? If so, I wouldn't order online, I'd just go and gather my purchases in store. Finally, she said its late (8pm, store was open till 10) and to call in the morning. She called me back later that evening saying they did not find my order, but said they will get it ready, just come first thing in morning. So trip #2 to Old Orchard, parking full, crazy shoppers everywhere, just the drama I was trying to avoid with online sale. I decided to return the stemless wine glasses as the quality looked about on par with a dollar store, short & stubby, nothing like online pic. The same greeter lady saw me upon entering, "Oh you're back?" To which I reply, Well good morning, I'm back for the rest of my order, I told you was missing yesterday!. Do you think I got an apology? NO. Oh she said and turned around and walked away. She was the reason for this mess, and for wasting another 3 hrs driving and waiting in their store. So another 30 min wait to look, and they come out with the box of glasses, this time I check each one, I'm not making trip #3! I proceed to return the glasses, and told them they were real poor quality. The manager was called in, as the glasses were ringing up incorrectly and not matching receipt. Oh lord, not another fiasco! While I stand here in a down coat, now sweating my self into never ending hell, I look and see the stemless wine glasses a few feet over, I look, and they are exactly as pictured online. These morans packaged the wrong glasses! Now it seemed I was trying to return something not on my receipt. Another 30 min of manager intervention for the return to take place. After all this drama, disappointment, all 100% due to Crate & Barrel staff, did I once get a "I'm sorry" or a "thanks for your patience"? NO. Unacceptable. You have forever lost me as a customer. Your quality is about on par with dollar store, cause even Ikea appears to now have better quality glass items. Your sales reps need a retraining in customer service and attitude adjustment. Please save yourself some time and headache and stay clear of this store. If my several trip and wasted hours are all due to online order, can't imagine what would happen with a furniture order! read more

I recently purchased a bedroom set from Crate and Barrel at Old Orchard... The experience in the store was very different than the delivery/quality of merchandise. We worked with a sales person who was fine, she serviced our needs and we were in and out pretty quickly; we had done all of our homework online so we were prepared to make our purchase before walking into the store. The bed and two side tables were delivered with no incident, aside from the delivery guys not calling prior to delivery. Two weeks later, we noticed one of the side tables was beginning to chip...the surface of the table had a dime sized chip in the finish. We had not noticed anything when they delivered the piece. We are certain the quality of the table finish is less than superior....per the pricing of the table. We called the 800 number to ask for a replacement piece, they told us to call Old Orchard store directly, so we did. They offered the replacement piece, we accepted. The delivery service called a day prior to offer notice of delivery between a 11-1pm window. The delivery guys showed up the next day an hour early with no apology. We accepted them into the house, had to ask them to remove their filthy shoes. They put the new table in place, I quickly noticed more finish damages. I told the delivery guys I would not accept the piece and one guy, Carlos, said "it's just wood, it won't be perfect". I said, take your table and get out of my house. They took the replacement table out and put my original piece back. They were on their way out and made several comments under their breath about how I am being too picky about the finish...the tables were $400 each and we bought two. Carlos the delivery guy asked me to sign his paper stating I had accepted their damaged merchandise and I refused. This short of the long, is simple: don't expect service to be well aligned with the price and quality of their merchandise. read more

DO NOT get things delivered from Crate and Barrel. We ordered a large dining room table that came cracked to the middle. We ordered a bed and the delivery people did not have all of the parts. We took time out of our weekend only to have pieces of unbuilt furniture laying around the house and damaged furniture the company won't take back. The staff is pretty amazing at this location. They spent over 30 min helping me find everything I needed and even showed me things I never even thought of. Only thing that sucks are the prices - really high. Walking out of here spending less than 100 is almost impossible. I do wish they had some more creative brands of dinnerware like Fortessa and a few others but their flatware are pretty awesome! They carry Miro Flatware which are simply beautiful. I have numerous pieces of furniture in my home from Crate & Barrel and when I needed a new sofa-bed I naturally went to C & B. Because I only have two bedrooms the sofa- bed is situated in the second bedroom/office. A friend stays overnight with me every other week and after sleeping on the C & B sofa-bed mattress he told me he would have to sleep on the floor because the C & B mattress is so awful. Result? I spent almost $200.00 for a foam mattress and gave the C & B to the trash man. Crate & Barrel should be ashamed that they sell such a lousy product. ASHAMED! I had left behind a sofa-bed I bought at Carsons when I moved to my present apartment which was a BIG mistake because the Carsons sofa-bed mattress was perfect. I learned my lesson at C & B: the sofa itself is well-designed and is comfortable for sitting. HOWEVER, the bed and mattress are a pieces of JUNK! I wasted my money and when I telephoned C & B I was told they don't sell mattresses and that was that! BEWARE! Yes, I've experienced MUCH better. read more

We bought two twin sleepers (armchairs that have twin hide-a-bed) from the Old Orchard Crate & Barrel. The shopping experience was great -- salesperson Judy was extremely friendly and helpful, and she stayed in contact with us after our visit during our purchase (we bought over the phone after we made it home to measure), while arranging shipping, and even afterward to make sure we were happy with the product. 5 stars overall minus 1 star for the delay in delivery -- we bought custom furniture near the end of a big sale, and it ended up being ready more than a month later than the originally-stated 6-8 weeks. Not a big deal for us, as it happened, but it could be for some. This is not the closest C&B to us, but we'd go back there for sure. read more

Crate and Barrel has a promotion that if you spend $100 before December 24, they will give you a $25 coupon. I purchased a $350 gift card and they refused to give me the $25 coupon. My gift card was not eligible. I asked the reason and none was given. It was just store policy. Let Us Entertain You gives you a $25 gift card for every $100 spent. What's the difference. I guess Crate and Barrel doesn't want my business. I have shared the incident with many friends and all agree that the $25 should have been issued and possibly $75. Does Crate and Barrel know the bad publicly and ill will they are creating. All who I shared this story with were shocked that they would not issue the $25 gift card. read more
