You could go to the Merchandise Mart, River North or Lightology to spend a ton on modern furniture and lighting.....but if you don't want to spend that much and - you don't want IKEA stuff (nothing against IKEA, I love their food and stuff), then you can come here. I think a good comparable would be Domicile, but Dania is a couple of levels classier due to their showroom in Northbrook. As you walk in, someone, who almost looks like another shopper (but dressed a little better than you) will come and greet you and ask how she/he can help. I like that and I keep that person in mind as I walk around the entire store. They have nice credenzas (I haven't used this word, in like 8 years), dining room tables, chairs, beds, lamps, rugs, etc. I used to assemble furniture part-time, while I was in college, so assembling furniture is a breeze for me. However, some of the furniture comes preassembled, like my credenza. Whether you're trying to furnish an entire house or wanting something in particular - I suggest visiting here. The time had finally come for me to shop for a new sofa and chair set after 13 years of wear on my previous sectional prompted me to accept its resignation. So off the sectional went ... to Salvation Army, and off I went to visit my 5th or 6th showroom which was Dania at their 40,000 sqft showroom in Northbrook, Illinois. There were hundreds of pieces of furniture smartly set up and juxtaposed with other fixtures that coordinated at a noticeable high standard of quality and level compatibility. It was like visiting the Apple Store, the quality of the offerings were noticeably higher than other furniture components that we had seen at other showrooms. The showroom was inviting, the sales reps were confident in their products and proved it by forgoing the "hard sell' and instead they invited you to come to them should you have any questions or special requests. I wouldn't have visited the showroom four times before I placed my order if I wasn't completely comfortable in their hands and felt welcomed there. So, that said, ... I found a particular design of reclining couch and matching reclining chairs that spoke to me. It was mid Black Friday - Cyber Monday sales season, and like every great retail business should, Dania invited consumers to take advantage of the noticeably handsome discounts. After narrowing it down to the set of choice, I happily placed my order and and drove home with a delivery date in hand. NOW HERE's THE BEST PART. Beyond Dania's control, one of the manufacturer retail boxed pieces from the fabricating factory was delivered with a defect. I photographed the defect, sent the pictures to Dania for their records and was immediately comforted by their staff by being assured that a replacement piece would be ordered immediately. Gracie, my personal salesperson was superb throughout, she treated me with the level of concern and fairplay that one usually reserves for family, we went forward effortlessly. Next I was contacted by Mike, an incredibly capable and personable manager who cut his teeth in deliveries for over a decade. And then there was one of Dania's top technicians Jason, who helps with the overseeing of the shipping and deliveries department. Although Mike's and Jason's duties now keep them dedicated to the showroom and on site departments, they both personally wanted to head out to deliver a "loaner" until the replacement was fabricated and shipped from overseas. My takeaway from this experience was 10 STARS OUT OF 10, because I learned a long time ago, that it's considered normal for a company to sell products and make deliveries and have things go as expected. But what truly sets a company apart is how they cope with the unexpected, how they make "good" of a "situation", and how they instill confidence by respecting and reassuring their customers. So there you have it, a great company like Dania, with great products, in a great showroom, is still only as good as the folks who work there. That said, I'd like to let Gracie, Mike, & Jason all know that I am most grateful for their noticeable sense of fair play and professional follow-through. I love my furniture, and will confidently visit there again, ... and again, ... that's for sure. read more

We called Dania's Lombard store Saturday. The website and the phone message said they were open. So we drove and hour to get there to find the store long closed. I purchased a sofa/loveseat in September of last year. When they were delivered there was a strong gasoline smell coming from the furniture. The salesperson, Karen, said the smell was gas and to air it out . The smell dissipated but has now returned 10 months later. The gas smell is very noticeable and i can hardly tolerate it. I spoke with Michael who said he never heard of this when the salesperson, Karen, was well aware of it. He asked what I would suggest being done and I said I wasn't an expert but maybe a good cleaning. He recommended a company they work with but said they wouldn't pay for the cleaning which in fact was only $75. He reiterated that I probably "spilled something on it" and said that's what's causing the smell. I told him I do not eat sitting on the furniture at all. I'm disappointed that they didn't offer to at least pay for the low $75 fee. I went on to read about gases in furniture and how harmful they can be breathing them over time. Do not buy from Dania unless you want gasoline smells while you sit on the furniture and Dania doesn't want to do anything about it. Warranty or not why are they selling furniture that smells like gasoline when you sit on it. read more

We are about to lose our upstairs guest room to a new baby so a few weeks ago I decided I needed some sort of pull out couch, futon, etc for our upstairs playroom. While I think most of our guests will stay downstairs where it's much quieter (away from the kids!), I thought it would be helpful to have an extra sleeping spot when necessary. And bonus points for me having a place to sit (instead of the floor) while watching the kids play. I wasn't interested in spending much on a piece of furniture that's likely to be trashed by my little ones. My mom and I thought about making the trek to ikea, but the thought of going there on black friday weekend was daunting. First we decided to check out Dania, which is very close to where I live. There weren't many people in the store so we were helped immediately by Audra. I liked her immediately just based alone on the fact that we have the same name (sans the e). I explained what I was looking for and she showed me a few options for couches an futons. All were exactly what I was looking for - the right size, comfortable enough & priced just right. She was also very honest about a few that she didn't think were quite as comfortable, which I appreciated. While I"m not in the market for other furniture I did look around a bit and overall thought they had really good prices. Their furniture is pretty contemporary, which isn't typically my style, but I think it would be a good place to check out when I attempt to refurnish my basement at some point in the next year (once my future 3rd child is done spitting up all over our current basement furniture). It was possible to get the futon delivered with a few days, but I chose a Saturday a few weeks out mostly because they don't provide a block of time for delivery until the day before. Personally one of my pet peeves that these furniture places expect you to sit around waiting for something, but sadly that seems to be the norm. As promised they called the day before with a 9am-12pm delivery window. They showed up within the time frame and set up our new futon within minutes. We've only had the futon for about 12 hours, but it's already been laid on several times today by my children, mother, etc. Overall, a very good buy! read more

I found the perfect pair of swiveling barrel chairs in the color I needed at Dania. They are beautifully made with a quality suede like fabric and swivel that returns to center. It was great to see them in person so I could order them with confidence that they would fit into my newly decorated living room. A nice sales person showed me around and I knew these were for me the moment I laid eyes on them. I opted to pick them up with my son to avoid the $100 delivery fee and I'm glad I did. The warehouse person was awesome and unboxed them so we could each load one in our SUV's. I did price out similar chairs for twice the money at Design Within Reach. If you are looking for quality furniture (that you don't have to assemble yourself) Dania is the perfect choice. I purchased the Brennan Twin Captian's Bed for my son at a lower price than you would find online, and NO assembly required. Solid wood and a terrific value, I have zero regrets. The order came online with a minimal delivery and installation fee, it's well built and I know it will not fall apart with a move. I won't buy overpriced furniture online that looks great in the photo, but requires assembly with a bit of talent and luck to make the piece solid and last. We went to Dania to look at a sleeper sofa that we found on their website. We wanted to try it out in terms of functionality, comfort, materials, and color. We called in advance to confirm that they had the sofa in the showroom. They were courteous and informative on the phone. When we arrived there, we approached a counter to inquire about the sofa. We were greeted by Ella, an agent that has been with Dania for over 20 years! She walked us over to the sofa display, showed us how to convert it to bed, and confirmed material and color options. She also found a mistake in color codes on their website and corrected it to ensure our order was placed correctly. She got us an additional discount on top of the year end sales. Dania furniture has beautiful pieces on display in their showroom. Our salesperson, Andra, was very helpful and was able to locate all the items we were looking for. The only issue we had was with the delivery. The company they use employs delivery people lacking customer service skills. After making excuse after excuse why they could not make the delivery on the scheduled day, it took several calls to Dania and the dispatch manager to get them to deliver the furniture. The customer experience does not end with the purchase of the items, and the unprofessional behavior of the delivery men left a bad impression on what otherwise was exemplary service at the store. All of the sales people have been very helpful and congenial. My husband has purchased furniture for his office and been very satisfied. With a 4 star rating, I set my navigation to Dania Nothbrook. The store layout is very unorganized. You'll find beds next to office furniture next to couches and living room tables. If your looking for something specific, you'll have to go through the whole store because everything is scattered. Not one piece of furniture was appealing and despite the store looking big, I didn't find much variety. I didn't find anything that was unique or modern. Many pieces looked outdated and most items looked like they lacked quality. If I didn't know any better, I'd think I was in a close-out store. Wouldn't recommend. read more

I was exposed to this furniture store because my dentist had some pretty swanky looking sofas in his waiting room. I just had to ask... where did you get that?! And this is how I found my way to Dania... I had passed the stores in Algonquin and Schaumburg a couple times but never found my way in, until the other week (to this location). I just bought a new condo and needed to furnish everything. The top floor is mostly larger, more expensive items for fancypants homes. The bottom floor is mostly apartment/condo sized items. This is where I found my sofa... The Oregon w/ chaise... even the color sounds sexy: anthracite gray. YUM. There were other items I saw and liked, but honestly had no room to spare for. Ella (?) helped me with the sale and she was nice, not pushy at all. Delivery to Chicago was $100 flat fee, regardless of the number of items I bought. I had no problems whatsoever when the delivery truck rolled in. They brought the sofa to my unit, installed the legs, and they were done. I'd highly recommend you come check this place out, even if you don't buy anything, I'm pretty sure you'll be impressed with their inventory! read more

Awful experience. We waited months for our furniture (not their fault) and then when the delivery date finally arrived they cancelled that morning because some people called in sick. Then we were put in the back of the line and had to wait three more weeks. When the new delivery date came they just never showed up. When we called and asked what was going on, they basically just said "I don't know". We still don't have our furniture. We paid months ago and it's sitting in a wear house somewhere. read more
