Lavender black pepper latte (hot, with oat milk) was interesting but good! You can smell the fresh black pepper grinds on top of the drink, but the taste was mainly of lavender, so you can't really taste any black pepper in the liquid. Honey cinnamon spice latte (also hot, with oat milk) was pretty good, but the most unique thing about it was the nice foamy flavorful top layer; the latte liquid itself was nothing special. I've tried two gourmet hot sandwiches: grilled chipotle chicken and turkey/ham, and they were great. All sandwiches come with a side of grapes and salted peanuts--a nice surprise and I really enjoyed that variety in the sides! Fantastic place to work. Fast and reliable wifi. Another hidden gem in the world class coffee places of Tucson. Crave is stuck in a strip mall that can appear to be a pain to navigate, but it's easier than you think. And there's plenty of parking in back. Now to the important stuff. The interior/ambiance of Crave is excellent. It has an industrial vibe with a tiny nod to cycling. The chairs are better looking than they are comfortable but they're not uncomfortable. Just not ideal for long sessions of sipping. However, the cushioned seats along the walls are excellent for spending an hour or two writing, reading, or surfing Yelp. The music is played at the proper volume - loud enough to be heard, but quiet enough it doesn't overwhelm the space. It's usually an eclectic mix of mellow Euro, jazz and vintage tunes. The WiFi is easy to connect to and has plenty of speed. The coffee - that why we're here, right? As you know if you've read my other reviews, I can be almost as big a snob about coffee as I am about customer service. And the coffee at Crave is outstanding. I had a nice clean mug of their house blend - which was simply described as "medium dark." It's a blend of Indonesian and Colombian, and it was wonderfully rich with hints of pine and chocolate with just the tiniest spice on the finish. I'm in danger of becoming addicted. They offer an assortment of decadent looking lattes and specialty drinks, and speaking of decadent - check out their pastries. But only if you want to indulge in true sweet deliciousness. Lastly, we come to MY most important part of a business - customer service. Crave's is outstanding. The staff I interacted with were all friendly without being fake, and generous with their time in answering all my silly questions. I write this review reluctantly as it is not my desire to hurt this business as so many people enjoy going here. I ordered two salmon sandwiches. the cost with tip and tax was over $30.00. Each sandwich had ONE slice of salmon. I called Crave to complain to a manager or owner as that is my preferred method of dealing with issues when I'm not satisfied and was told no such person was there. Had a fantastic mocha here. Their espresso was particularly delicious, but I forgot to ask if they roasted their own beans or not. I've ebbed and flowed over good ol Crave for years now. After a long time percolating over my thoughts, here's my diagnosis: it's cool. Like, it's not amazing. It's cool. The best thing it has going for it is the space. There's a billion places to sit, from bar to booth to table to strange circle plant table. It's cool. Lots of foot traffic coming in, lot of students coming to work. The drinks are a mixed bag for me. The coffee often tastes kinda burnt, and all of the lattes seem like they have too much milk. But I'm not a professional, that's just what I think. I think this is a much better "hey wanna go work for a couple hours" spot than it is a "hey you've gotta try this amazing coffee" spot. Crave is like "another" popular coffee place; except with a hipster-earthy with down-to-earth staff who seemingly care about their jobs and community. I immediately flashbacked to the early 90's when I was in my early 20's...except now I'm "considerably older" with my wife and three 10 - year old girls. ...not a bad thing, though! I ordered a large frappe with a third expresso shot (for that long trip home), wifey got a large iced special and the kids got a frappe concoction as well. All were delightful ! They had a drink called a marocchino which I had never tried before. It's a lovely layered concoction of espresso, frothy milk, with your choice of caramel or chocolate. I went with the traditional chocolate. The drink is served hot, in a small glass. It was a beautiful presentation and the frothy milk helped balance out the strong espresso. The chocolate added some depth and sweetness to round out the drink. The pastry selections looked too good to pass up so I also had a plum crosta.
