I have always heard good things about Ren and finally had the chance to try it out yesterday with a group of friends. Almost all of us ordered the Bagel Breakfast sandwich. I ordered mine on a gluten free everything bagel and I am honestly not sure if it was gluten free or not. Since I only have a minor sensitivity I didn't think too hard about it, but it did taste like a regular bagel. If it was gluten free then this was a great gluten free bagel! Three of our orders came out before the other two, and they told us they would bring the food to our table when it came out. We chose to sit outside, since the inside was full. After several minutes had passed, and the rest of our food hadn't come out, we went in to see our food had just been sitting on the counter. This was probably a miscommunication of some sort, but I do wonder how long they would have let the food sit there if we hadn't come in. The sandwich was good, but it did taste like something I could make at home. I would need to try more menu items at Ren in order to get a better idea, but the rest of their menu and bakery case does look promising! read more

Located in St Phillip's plaza, REN shares the beautiful fountain courtyard with other shops in the plaza. The Saturday morning I went, the plaza was busy with a vendor faire setup and groups of cyclists. I think there's a bike trail nearby. I had to park in the back near Homewood suites. The counter to order is right at the door so it felt cramped and hard to see the menu. Inside there were about 10 tables and I noticed tables in the shared courtyard outside. I ordered a Cafe Miel to go (latte with honey and cinnamon) and the muffin of the day. The latte was strong and balance well with the cinnamon and just the right sweetness from the coffee. The muffin was delicious and filling. I noticed a Ren Bakery 2 shops over but when I peeked in it didn't look any different read more

I always love visiting this place. It's one of my favorite coffee shops locally and the patio and seating area is really phenomenal. It's a great day to sit outside and enjoy a bagel breakfast sandwich with an oatmeal cappuccino, this is typically what I get besides the vegan protein bars. Finding Sunday morning coffee and grub spots that open before 7 can be difficult so when I saw Ren opened at six am, with lots of food options, and had great reviews (thanks for the recs, Bella), I decided to give it a shot Service is friendly and fast. I heard they get busy, and though it was poppin, my Mocha and Breakfast Croissant came out quick and both were outstanding! Only gripe is that the food got messy after only a couple bites, so instead of a sandwich it became a salad, but the flavors were so good. I'll be back and try some other dishes. read more

The variety and quality of food options at Ren is great, and the service is quick and friendly. I typically get either a vanilla oat milk latte or turmeric ginger chai to drink. They have plenty of gluten-free options, including bagels. So, I've enjoyed the bagel breakfast, pear & fig bagel, and avocado toast on a GF bagel. They also have a nice yogurt bowl and GF granola. The vibe is nice with seating inside and on an outside patio. My only complaint would be that parking is hard to come by. read more

Service really is so great. I can't explain it but everyone is just kind. That makes a huge difference when entering an establishment. I feel welcome and the staff is always patient as I look through the pastry options. Always willing to answer questions too. I got the Guatemalan roast again which is what the house coffee is right now. Believe it or not it tasted better this week? Fresher and had discernible robust rich flavor. I also got the funfetti cake. It's new and I was excited to see my favorite flavor! It was delicious. It had the right amount of flavor and the buttercream icing was amazing, not too sweet. I just had one of the best, if not the best avocado toast of my life. I wish I asked where their bread comes from but it was soooo good. I love my avocado toast with either chunks of avocadoa or slices of avocados and not super mashed, a spread kind so theirs was just perfect! I'm a sucker for argulas too and with a little drizzle of oil added even more deliciousness. Really it was heavenly. I also tried their special agua fresca, which was made with sparking water, lemon syrup(I believe) and basil. My goodness, it was also amazingly delicious. I give four stars because their silverware was dirty, which is a big turn-off for me but that won't stop me from going back to this place. I came here on a busy day during lunch and had the most amazing turkey sandwich. The coffeehouse is inside St Philip's plaza with lots of boutiques, yoga and other restaurants. It's a very nice area with lots shade and cute tables to sit both indoor and outdoor. The coffeehouse serves a variety of salads, sandwiches and even agua frescas! I was looking forward to stopping on for days before my visit. With the great reviews and such i was hopeful. This morning I woke up early and headed over with my son to pick up some drinks before our road trip home. The place was busy for a Tuesday and again I was hopeful. The woman at the counter seemed a bit grumpy and I overwhelmed. I was pleased to see cold brew and asked if the offered hwc. To which the replay was we're out. Cool, no biggie. She advised they half half and half so I asked for a splash and some vanilla. They don't offer blended drinks and my son's not a fan of coffee so he chose hot chocolate. I also ordered a raspberry lemon muffin. There were no open tables so we waited nearby. Once our drinks were ready the girl pointed and said cream is over there. My lid was laid on the counter. Ok sweet I guess. I poured a little cream and off we went. My sons got chocolate was more whip cream than drink, but he said it was good. My muffin was my favorite part. It was large, sweet but not so very. Baked well. My cold brew while no acidity which is awesome the vanilla was nearly nonexistent. I poured the half and half myself so I obviously controlled that part. I wish I lived closer to try again, but not sure when I'll be back in the area. Unfortunately I left bummed and unwelcome. Really wanted to love this place... but sadly, I won't be coming back. The food is honestly great -- compliments to the people in the kitchen who clearly know what they're doing. But the customer service? Disappointing. I always tip 20%, hoping it adds a little joy or appreciation, but it's never acknowledged. And paying $5 for a single slice of toast just adds to the sting when the service feels cold. Maybe if they played some music, the vibe -- and the staff -- would feel more welcoming.
