I haven't been to this place in YEARS, due to several bad experiences that felt very much like blatant discrimination in the past. Truly. But a good friend of mine said that they go all the time and haven't had any issues and wanted to get me to try it again. So, we went on a Saturday evening around 6ish. We didn't necessarily have any issues getting in, but the hostess did say that her security might have an issue with the shirt my friend had on, even though he was very dressed up. It made me uncomfortable and seemed threatning almost. But she let us in and everything was fine. I don't understand why Crave always acts this way. But then when I walk in I see people of non-color dressed any kind of way, casual, etc. It just really rubs me the wrong way and for it to happen to me EVERY time I go, only leads me to one conclusion... Came into Crave about 20 minutes before closing on the end of a first date, we needed a sweet treat to end the night. Basically everything was cleaned up for the night, but the staff absolutely came through for me. They had already put away most of the desserts and the chocolate dipped strawberries, but when my date went to the bathroom I asked if there was any way they could help me out, and they were incredibly kind about it. They managed to put together a slice of cheesecake for us and honestly made the whole night feel special. You can tell when people genuinely care about hospitality, and the team tonight really did. Cocktails were great and desserts were generously proportioned....everything was good and service was great. This seems to be predominantly a hookah place as most of the tables had shisha but I was happy to note that the smell wasn't overwhelming and the ventilation was on point. Sometimes at hookah places, my eyes start to itch and my clothes smell when I leave but not here, so I thought that was great. I had such a great experience at Crave, and a huge part of that was my server, Paige. When I first arrived, parking was a bit odd to find, I believe they offered parking validation, but I couldn't find exactly where that was. I ended up finding parking down the block, not too far. When I came inside the bar was completely full, and it wasn't clear if anyone was leaving soon. I put my name on the waitlist for a table (about a 45 minute wait), and mentioned it was just for one. The interaction with the hostess felt a bit awkward, almost as if she was surprised I wanted a table for myself. I stepped out to kill some time and returned when my table was ready. I was asked to store my small to go food box in the cupboard near the hostess stand rather than bring them to my table, which felt a little unusual, but she did walk me to my seat. Once seated, everything completely turned around. Paige immediately made me feel comfortable and welcome. She was incredibly attentive, friendly, and kind, and she checked in at just the right moments. The hookah and drinks were tasty, and her energy truly elevated the entire experience. She made honest and friendly conversation, it felt less like dining alone and more like being taken care of by a friend. She was knowledgeable about the menu, made great recommendations, and ensured everything came out perfectly. I love how they had so many espresso martini options! I opted to try the banana bread, from her recommendation and it was delicious! Their Bleu Cheese Stuffed crafted cocktail was great! Their version of a dirty martini, such a perfect blend. Not too dirty or too light. Paired nicely with the bleu cheese olives. I appreciate they had that as an option! Their hookah was made to perfection! It wasn't harsh once throughout the whole time I had it. Based on her recommendation, as well as what I was craving (pun intended haha) I ordered the Guava Fresca (guava, kiwi, mint). I have been to the Crave in Asheville a few years ago and was happily surprised to find out there was a location in Charlotte as well! It's unfortunate they don't take reservations since I wanted to come for my birthday, but I came here on a little solo dinner date instead. The inside is very vibey and chic, as a lounge should be, and it would make a great date spot or special occasion location. They do offer hookah, so it can get a little smokey. I sat outside because it was such a beautiful day. Saturn was my server and she was super cool and friendly! Extremely disappointed with the discriminatory practices of this bar. Myself and 7 other colleagues were denied entrance because we were wearing shorts. Two of our group were wearing ball caps because they had just finished a round of golf. As we walked away I noted several patron on the patio wearing shorts. I also noted several folks inside the establishment wearing shorts and tank tops. I suspect that we were denied entrance not because of our attire but because we identify as LGBTQ. Again we were dressed in khaki shorts and collard shirts. The last time I patronized this establishment was during a Panthers playoff game where everyone inter var had in Panthers jerseys and hats. Visited on a Thursday evening and sat outside since it was such a nice evening. The desserts were amazing, I had the bourbon pecan cheesecake, any my companion had the molten lava cake. We were both extremely satisfied with our selections as they were plentiful and overall great with an amazing presentation. For drinks we ordered the classic expresso martini with tequila, and the flower bomb, both which were strong and tasty. I've been here once before over a year ago (and also one at the Asheville location), but my husband has never been...so I chose this place for our date night. We arrived early around 5:30 pm on a Saturday night (no reservations), and were able to get seated immediately...ending up at this lounge seating. Think this bothered my husband more than me...but we vowed to request a high-rise table/seating next time. Maybe because we came too early, but the lighting wasn't ideal...a bit too bright for such a dark, sultry bar-lounge. Not sure if they're going for that vintage look or what, but to me, the place looked a bit worn down in the light. If they dimmed the place a bit more, the place might have looked nicer. Again, they probably do this later in the night? Overhead music was very fitting...in volume and variety. Service was very bubbly...though a bit inconsistent. We shared 2 small plates, Spicy Shrimp Flatbread Pizza and this Short Rib au Ju (Trio), plus an order of Kettle Chips...and also 2 desserts, Creme Caramel and Molten Lava Cake. For drinks, my husband got beer (??), and I got their Hibiscus Bellini again (loved it last time). I loved everything we ordered. All the dishes were beautifully presented and thoroughly delicious! Came here when we were visiting town for a wedding and it was recommended to us. We were a group of 3 and when we walked in the hostesses were so rude to us. Terrible attitude it almost made us turn around. Crave is a cute spot that is tucked away, but provides a nice, swanky , yet laid back vibe. I thoroughly enjoyed the ambience and well balanced playlist. Arriving around 6 on a Saturday yielded a no-wait scenario, but expect a wait of at least an hour if you arrive later, especially around 8/9ish on the weekends. While parking can be a bit limited in the area, the free parking deck behind the building provides a convenient solution. (I didn't see the parking deck, but I was informed of it by our server.) I tried one of the premium flavored hookah and it was just ok. I would say it is a tad overpriced compared to other hookah places, but I would like to try other flavors to make a better judgement of the hookah. The standout service from Sabrina, our attentive server, and the delightful array of drinks made the visit worthwhile. I have a bit of a mixed review! Loved the atmosphere and vibe of the place but the service needs some much needed work. Service: Our waitress Kaitlyn was so amazing and patient! Waitlist: I came in on a Friday night with a party of 7 and was put on the waitlist for an 1.5 wait which was expected for such a busy night. You're able to track your place in line via a link they send you and they text and call you when the table is ready so we were able to explore the area in the meantime! When we got back, we were promptly seated but I believe there was a miscommunication between the hostess stand and our waitress because it took about 20 minutes before we met our waitress/got water, etc. Ambiance: When you walk in, it's a very cute vibe. There are booths, kind of round sitting areas and a bar in the middle. It's kind of loud due to background music and talking so I wouldn't go if you're expecting a lot of intimate conversation, but more for girls night out or even a date if it's not the first one! Food: We ordered hookah, and I had the blue crab dip and bread pudding. Both were delicious. The blue crab dip had a lot of pieces of crab and the bread pudding was warm and came with a cream that complimented very well. The hookah was a little too harsh for me and the flavor was just okay. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would!!!!! My husband and I experience was not good at all. My husband is currently going through cancer treatments and he prefers to wear hats because his hair is falling out.
