Special salmon ramen w/ Brussel sprout appetizer
    Lucy P.

I have visited Kaliubon many times in the past, and every time the food does not disappoint. The flavors are always on point, the ingredients are fresh and delicious, and they offer plenty of substitutions for gluten and dairy sensitivities, including rice noodles and coconut milk. Additionally, the wait staff is very knowledgeable about what items are gluten-free. For appetizers, I'm always getting their crispy brussels sprouts that are the perfect amount of salty and acidic to prepare my taste buds for the fantastic ramen ahead. My go-to ramen is the curry ramen, and it is the perfect amount of spicy that you're looking for in a hot, filling bowl of ramen. They also have rotating special items. My favorite that I've tried was a delicious crispy salmon ramen. Aside from the food, this restaurant offers fantastic lunch specials, and the food always comes out quickly, making it a great spot to stop for a quick lunch. I always leave full and satisfied, and suggest this anytime my coworkers want to go out to lunch.

We went to Kaliubon Ramen for ramen and drinks. I got the Hot and Sour Ramen which at first wasn't super spicy but towards the end it definitely had a kick. The beef was crispy but still tender and well marinated in the broth. The end was a little over done but still went well with everything overall. I also got Soju original and probably should've got the flavored version because it just tasted like watered down vodka. The place was super warm especially with it being such a small area so dress lightly even on a cold day.

Based on the high marks on Yelp we had high expectations of this place. It was OK. We arrived at 2:20 p.m. and put our names in. It was Saturday and packed so we figured it must be really good. They took our cell number and said it'd be a half hour wait. Lots of booths for 2-4 guests. Not much ambience, though sitting at the bar it might be fun to watch the chefs make the ramen. We walked over to Barnes and Noble and browsed as we waited, then returned about the time our table should be ready. Our server saw us and immediately went to clean the booth for us, so far so good. He and the other servers were all polite and seemed to be rushing around to accommodate everyone, so kudos to them. Our impression was just they were severely understaffed, like 2-3 more people would've helped. We received our waters about 10 minutes in and he took our order right away. Then it was 30 more minutes to receive our 2 appetizers, fried calamari and seasoned edamame. Still no drinks (diet cokes and strawberry lemonade). The appetizers were delicious, honestly more flavorful than our ramen. We ordered tonkatsu ramen and miso ramen which came with chashu, mushrooms, bamboo shoots and a flavored boiled egg. The toppings and noodles were great. The broth was lacking depth, and I added lots of chili oil just to give it a 3rd dimension.

Amazing! Ate here with a friend and the staff are wonderful and the ramen is delicious! I had the curry ramen and it was just perfect.

I AM SHOCKED! Why doesn't Kaliubon have a higher rating? The food, location, cleanliness, and, the service was fantastic! We were seated in a lovely spot and greeted with warmth and enthusiasm. Malikai, our server, was particularly friendly (he kept referring to us as "'my friends" with a great sense of humor. I had the Angry Wonton and TanTan Mazemen, which was delicious with just the right kick of spice. My husband had ala carte sushi, which he was skeptical about at a Ramen place. However, don't let the name fool you. He enjoyed every morsel!!!

Decided to give this place a try for some small bites and some sushi rolls. My sister and I were starving so we ordered a few starters to share. We started with the pork bao bun, garlic wings, yellowtail jalapeño and the fried calamari. My favorite bite was the pork belly bao bun and the yellowtail jalapeño. My sister loved the wings. We also tried some rolls, California, Philly, salmon avocado and the blueback square special roll. We accompanied with a passion fruit tea with mango boba. Everything was delicious and I appreciated that the appetizer were brought separately giving us plenty of time to finish one to start the other as we were seated at a deuce and didn't have much room. It's not a fancy place and it's a small establishment but still a great place for a casual lunch or dinner. I would love to come back and try their ramen and noodles dishes.

I simply cannot imagine ordering anything other than their Curry Ramen bowl from this point forward. Like one would legitimately be insane not to get it, provided you are an average fan of standard Thai-style curries like Red, Panang, or even Las Vegas style Three-color (Red+Green+Yellow). My suggested mod: Ask for your home-crafted noodles a little extra "QQ" or chewy al dente. And ask for a side of their home-made chili oil to step up the Szechuan influence. Normally I shun the fusion or "new-style" menu items, but this Curry Ramen bowl is stuff of dreams. Perfectly executed, temperature hot, unforgettably umami, and the exact drinkable curry broth viscosity that is no accident. This bowl is a champion, folks!

It had a lively energy without feeling chaotic. I ordered the beef ramen and added shrimp, and everything came out in under 10 minutes. The broth had a really nice depth of flavor with a mild kick; not overpowering, just enough warmth. The beef was tender, the shrimp addition was worth it, and the portion size was generous. The space itself is clean and modern. I appreciated being able to see the kitchen area and the bar setup; everything looked organized and well run. The booth seating was comfortable, and overall it felt like a great spot for a casual lunch or relaxed dinner. Definitely a place I'd come back to.

Driving into the plaza...the sidewalk is a bit lifted from the road, so expect it to be a bit bumpy coming in and out of the lot. Walking inside it was a cutely decorated shop with Anime themed wall art. There was a good amount of seating in this small shop as well. We sat down and ordered the iron man roll, so ramen roll, house ramen and Shabu Shabu beef ramen. It took about 20-39 mins for the food to come out but I believe there is just one cook working. The rolls were delicious and I really like their So Ramen roll. It was creamy and crunchy. My house ramen was also really good and I enjoyed it. My fiancé thought his ramen was a bit bland. But that might just be his opinion on ramen overall. Each item runs about $14 to $20 each. So a meal for 2 can run you about at minimum $40. Overall we enjoyed our time here and would come back.

I forget which.) Being CCSU s spring break, there wasn't much going on. That is, we saw a few pickups and DoorDash orders, but we had the full restaurant to ourselves. The waitress was quick, but the to-go orders left us waiting (totally normal, not a complaint.) First, the good: the ramen is a sizable portion. You can tell it's all made from scratch. It's not the saltiest thing you'll ever eat. The spicy is actually spicy, if you mix in all the chili paste they leave resting on the fish cake. I grabbed my chopsticks and dug in, and I was glad I got the $3.50 milk tea on the side (you get it for cheap with a bowl), though I found it very sweet. The pork in my ramen was crispy on the sliver of crust, and the rest was cooked to perfection. Many other places can do it like that, but if they'd messed that up, they'd lose some points. The bad is a very short list. Our ramen had vermicelli or angel hair instead of, you know, ramen noodles. Maybe that's their thing? All in all, a soup place next to the up-the-hill dorms is just what I needed decades ago. I'm rarely up that way these days, but I'd totally stop here even in the summer.

Sidewalks were torn up but the place is hard to find with lack of signage. We were able to get seated right away, and looked through their digital menu. We got a smattering of dishes, wontons and dumplings, a sandwich and a ramen. Food came out in a reasonable wait time. We took pics and dug in. The 7 flavor dumpling was the star of the show. Light and thin dumpling wrapper, savory sweet sauce, plenty of filling. The pork dumplings were good, but the wrapper was thicker and denser. The twice cooked pork sandwich was pretty tasty, the pork needed to be more present compared to the veggies, but appreciated the crisp of the bread. The ramen had a good amount of braised beef and noodles. The broth needed a little doctoring to coax out some of the more savory notes. Broth needed more aggressive seasoning though. The price was not too bad for the area. It's kind of like dim sum, where you get a small plate for the price but it's all shareable and the flavors are good. It's not very well lit, gave the place a very dark air about it. But as a restaurant, it's pretty good. There's a lot of great places in that area, and this one's a good option if you're looking for small plates.

Still pricey but at least it was good. My fiancé ramen came out shortly after and we weren't too impressed. The beef broth was a muted color which looked more like miso. He said the noodles were sticky and pretty soft. I waited about 15 minutes until my chicken katsu came out (we were the only ones in there so it wasn't busy) and it looked promising...
