I had high hopes coming to this place after reading the reviews, but not so excellent or read even good. The service was okay. The lovely girl that greeted us sat us right away and got us drinks. She was nice. My husband ordered the Burrito with ham and Monterey Jack cheese. He got sausage and cheddar cheese. Of course you have to cut into it to find out and then we didn't want to send it back because we felt bad wasting food, so he ate it anyway, but no order to discount the burrito or anything. (P.S. we check the handwritten bill and the waitress wrote it down right, the kitchen just didn't cook it right.) I ordered French Toast and since I don't eat meat the waitress was nice enough to substitute the meat for hashbrowns. Only problems, serious cold spots in my hashbrowns, my husband had them with his too. My French Toast was pretty good. Eggs were good. The prices are good, the portions are huge, the wait staff is friendly and efficient, the resaurant is comfortable and cheery and the food is great! What more can you say? Its nice and casual with great food. We have never been able to eat all the food on our order so we always end up with enough food for another meal to take home with us. It seems these overrated reviews are either written by the business owner or his/her family. Stopped in with my family, 5 of us had the misfortune to eat here and 5 of us left completely dissatisfied. 2 of my kids ordered the Mac N cheese. Just stuff from the box. Crazy Ottos special touch however is to burn it and give one little scoop per child. My kids NEVER finish an entire meal but this left them HUNGRY! The menu said the price (without a drink or any other side mind you) is $5.25. Crazy Ottos charged us $6.50. What a ripoff! Congratulations Crazy Ottos, 1/5 a box of Mac N Cheese, split two ways and you rake in $13. Genius! My husband got a Chicken Fried Steak. He gets this meal just about everwhere, so he's a good judge of the full array of how this can turn out. His steak was black. It's wonderful that other reviewers enjoyed the gravy, because it makes a great camouflage to hide the nasty surprise underneath. The fabulous biscuits? They look like the ultra cheap off-brand ones that sell for 33cents a tube at the Market. Does anyone really WANT to buy those? Gross! I got the Club sandwich. It was just okay. My fries however tasted like they came off another persons order where they didn't finish eating their fries. Cold, hard, and several of them looked like they'd been nibbled on. My youngest child got nuggets with fries, although his order didn't come until well after the rest of us had eaten and were ready and anxious to LEAVE. I had overheard the staff saying they hadn't even put his order in and they were out of nuggets, poor kid. Anyway, his fries were hot so I ended up sharing with him. I tested the temperature of his fries for quite a while, checking to see how long it'd take them to get as hard and cold and old tasting as mine and they never did. My stomach was turning. The decor is tacky and just dusty looking. Where's the quaint and cozy? It looks like castoffs from a thrift store got tacked up on the wall. The silverware is all over the map. My daughter laughed at how she got silverware from THREE entirely different sets. The lack of windows is pretty uncomfortable. There is not enough room between tables for wheelchair access. The bathrooms are not ADA compliant. Is your contractor also your your chef? There were 7 bottles of hot sauce on our table but no ketchup. After several years of boycotting this location I finally decided to bite the bullet and try it anew. Upon ebtering, at the counter was a waitress in must be a reserved stop but this time wasn't the usual but a new, I've not seen any of the staff that was here today and held out high hopes of improved service, boy was I disappointed. The staff which caused my boycott in the first place had to train these to be EXACTLY as she, rude, dis-courteous, slow, mean-spirited. I had to wait for everything, she threw a menu on the table asking what I was going to drink all while flying by, not even stopping to make eye contact. I was finally to make eye-contact with her while she was chatting at the counter with the countered waitress and she shouted she something indicating she'd be there shortly (?). I ordered an omlete with biscuits open-faced and in a to-go container. My order came up but no one moved to bring it out then eventually she notice it, picked it up but put it back realizing she didn't have the biscuits which she went into the back and emerged with a plate of open-faced biscuits forgetting I had requested it in a to-go container. She brought it to the table and rudely placed the 2 plates on the table trying to do it all without stopping until I called her back reminding her it was to be in a to-go container which she then retorted "OK I can do that" took the biscuits back and put in the right container returning again without even stopping on the table before I again called her back to request some salsa. She once again returned and on her now anticipated running method. My food was barely warm much less hot but she never came back and it was only getting colder so I started eating. I'm sure it could be great and the cook deserves better comments or his efforts but one bad apple does in fact spoil the whole bunch. Boycotting again, probably forever. read more

There are not many restaurants to choose from, so even though I was disappointed the first time I ate at Crazy Otto's, I tried it at least 5 more times, hoping that different menu items would be better. At least they were consistently awful. 1. Those huge omelettes they brag about have soggy hash browns every single time, whether on the side or mixed with the eggs (and you haven't experienced gross until you've eaten oily, soggy hash browns mixed with undercooked eggs). The eggs themselves had no flavor at all. It was just a huge mess. I've never seen eggs so thin before. The only explanation I can think of is that a lot of liquid has been added to stretch the eggs. The onions weren't cooked all the way, let alone caramelized or even browned, so in between tasteless eggs were bites of raw onion. MULTIPlE times, so I can't even believe that the cook was out that day and someone who had never cooked before had filled in. My husband's was the same, soggy potatoes and tasteless eggs. 2. My 3 year old wanted chili, and since I didn't have 6 hours to make my own, I tried theirs. I told them it was for a 3 year old, and wanted to make sure it was mild and not spicy. They assured me multiple times it was very mild. My son shrieked when he tried the first bite that his mouth was burning. My husband tried it and found it too spicy to stand, and he's used to horseradish! What kind of maniacs would say it was mild enough to feed to a little boy? It also had very little meat and looked very mushy, instead of the beans holding their shape as in good recipes. (The timing of adding the seasonings affect the firmness of the beans.) 3. They forgot my grilled onions both times I tried the turkey melt, and the sandwich itself was greasy and tasteless. 4. My husband said his cheeseburger was the worst he'd ever had. 5. The kids chicken nuggets were soft. We've given Crazy Ottos so many chances, and none of us have every had good food. A diner should be able to turn out excellent eggs, burgers, and sandwiches. There are so few restaurants around here, I would really like to see them succeed. I would love to see them get a restaurant makeover, or have the cooks attend cooking classes to raise the standard of the food. They might blow off the criticism, since they inexplicably have a few good reviews, but what a lost opportunity for improvement. I would much rather have a smaller omelette, with high quality ingredients and well-made, than an enormous plate of soggy, tasteless, cheap ingredients. If they're going to use that many eggs for an omelette, it's not like they're going to use quality meats and cheese. read more

Went in around 11am and when we walked in were not greeted by any of the servers, after 2 minutes. Server Marianne sat us down and took really good care of us it seemed to us as she was the only one actually working(clearing tables, ringing checks,refreshing beverages, greeting guests), the rest were just relaxing. Marianne had great customer service! Food was nice and hot ordered the bacon and cheese omelette 1/2 w/ biscuits and gravy... Glad to see all crazy otto's taste the same. You walk in to this place and it is one of those hole in a wall places that for a split second, makes you think "what am I getting into." Now I don't say that with discrimination, just a lot of experience. Boy did I misjudge this goldmine. You walk in and see a very comfy, homey little diner. Bunch of American license plates on the wall from almost every state, very friendly comfortable employee's. The tables are lined with these advertisements from these little companies which I found highly amusing and even ended up calling one of them, so thank you for that. The menu is just incredible, words cannot describe. Talk about the best breakfast, I ordered something (don't remember what it was called) thinking it'll fill me up, not it will fill me up and then some. My order comes out, and my god, for the price I was shocked at the amount of food they give you and on top of that it was just mind blowing taste. The kind waitress was on top of things to, that woman was a worker. The second my glass was empty it was taken and filled again. I will come here for the rest of my life and will bring family and friends whenever I can. The absolute best breakfast diner I have ever been to in California. Thank you so much. read more

If you're looking to get in and out in a timely fashion! This place is not for you! We had a party of eleven people to celebrate a birthday breakfast. We arrived at 9:45am and were told that they would set up a table for us. We waited and waited. Again they said they were getting a table prepared for us. Twenty minutes later a motorcycle club arrived and were seated at the table which was being prepared for our party. The staff came out and asked if we wanted to be seated at different booths and tables. Apparently they had seated them at the table we had been waiting for! So much for first come first served. We waited over forty minutes to be seated. This is considered very poor management if you ask me. Once we were seated there was never any apologizes for the inconvenience. The only positive side of this visit was the food was decent and the service was good once we were seated. However, I wouldn't recommend this as a great place to go due to the poor management of getting a seat. read more

Best breakfast i have ever had. I always stop by here on my way through the 14 freeway. Biscuits and gravy - killer! Spanish omlette - best thing ever! - pancake - huge and delicious! French toast - awesome! I have eaten at almost every breakfast place in the Los Angeles, Hollywood, oc, san Diego area, none have even ever come close to the taste of Ottos! You owe it to yourself to try this place! I've been going there for 25 years of my 28 year life and I have never gotten bored of it. We went to Otto's on a Friday night to take advantage of the two for $20.00 special. The choices were prime rib or steak, with potato and vegetables. Salads were extra. The salads were cold, but sparse. The prime rib that I ordered came from some kind of institutional packaged meat - as it had almost no color, and was tough. The bright light in our experience was the poor server - working all by himself, taking all the orders, answering the phone, waiting on 11 tables at the same time... he tried so hard to make sure everyone was being taken care of. His one downfall was telling us that he was not ready to take our order, instead of saying he'd be right back to take our order. The food is just okay, the decor is lackluster, but if you want a diner-style meal at a reasonable price - this is your place to go. read more

I have been eating here for about 25 years. They were originally located in Lancaster off Sierra Highway and directly on the railroad tracks. They were opened from 5AM till 2PM and for breakfast only. I always got the Spanish Omelet with biscuits and gravy. I still get the same most of the time. One time I drove all the way through Angeles Forest in the snow, just to go for the best breakfast ever. My mouth is even watering as I am writing this. I better stop. Definitely recommend. Make sure you bring an appetite. They have large portions. To get the best most for your money, get the "full" order and take the other half home for another meal the following day. read more

Jammed into strip mall between a acupuncturist and a wedding photographer in a tight corner that doesn't exactly scream "Eat Here", is a suprisingly large (on the inside), brightly-lit, and comfortable casual diner called Crazy Otto's. The clientele is strictly local resident and buisnessman and there's a reason for that. This place is what breakfast is all about. Acton is the heart of horse country in these parts and in a place with few dining choices, a breakfast this good brings 'em running. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. The portions are enormous (check out the hash browns). The booths will accomodate a chubbo like me without getting that vise-like feeling of, say, a Denny's. I measure all breakfast joints by the Eggs Benedict and I was very pleased with what Otto's offered. The eggs were poached perfectly, they served real smoked ham (YUMMY), and the hollandaise was not canned but fresh (Hooray). I've been back a couple times since and the chicken fried steak and biscuits and gravy were a real mouthful (doggy box please!). Triple D fans start e-mailing! I have enjoyed crazy Otto's for years but I noticed the decline in quality in this particular crazy Otto's. let's start with the older waitress who has been there for years, she has a horrible attitude . She gave us our check two Minutes into a meal and never came back to give us a refill on our drinks or the other items that we had requested. And then we go to leave and she's at the the counter gossiping with the other staff like a schoolgirl. But that's not why I'm not coming back ,I ordered the chicken fried steak (which I have had many times before at all of the crazy Otto locations) it was burnt tasted like dirty oil and I'm pretty sure came right out of a microwave also the biscuits we're stale . This is Not the first time this happened. I figured it was just a bad day but this is the third time I've been there and have had the same experience. You should not leave the restaurant sick to your stomach. I wil not be returning to this diner and suggest you go to one of the other Crazy Otto's locations. Or pick another restaurant. read more

My husband and I went on a Sunday about 11:00. After the breakfast crowd and before the lunch rush, Not too crowded. We shared a cheeseburger. It comes with chips, but we wanted onion rings. $1.75 extra. Extra plate $1.00. I could have used my napkin. Drinks were $2.50 each. We wanted a little ranch dressing. Waitress brought a bowl full that could have dressed 4 salads. $.95 extra. Total bill was $18.50. The burger is quite a bit smaller than it used to be. I think we will stick with home cooked. This place is AWESOME! Last time I was there I had the Bacon & Egg Omelet for breakfast. Little did I know what to expect. Now, first you gotta know that NEVER in my life have I ever complained or even THOUGHT that I've been given TOO MUCH bacon on ANYTHING before!!! But I'll tell ya, this was a first! Honestly, I narfed all I could, but in the end, I still had this big pile of bacon to the side I just couldn't deal with! Not wanting this establishment to come to their senses and also ruin the situation for future customers too, I didn't actually say anything to my waitress about it. Just quietly shoveled all that bacon into a napkin and put it in my pocket. I was stuffed to the gills when I left! While waiting for my food, I was talking to my server and she told me how good it was to work there, that she'd been there over 10 years and that all the employees were well taken care of at this family style diner! It was nice to see cheerful workers doing their thing. Kinda odd, even, considering everywhere else you go. Had a great experience at this little roadside spot and I would recommend it to anybody that's ever been hungry before! Simple as that!! read more
