Nerd Rangers - Customer had their LaCie external hard drive literally go up in smoke. Thankfully, we were able to perform a 100% recovery!

Unfortunately, someone took it upon themselves to improperly disconnect my external drive over the…read moreholidays. This ended up resulting in my hard drive no longer working. I truly feared all of my files were gone forever. Wedding pictures, baby photos, and vacations we'd taken over the years. Plus all my music and video files. Adam and the Nerd Rangers saved almost everything for me on a 5TB drive. Their pricing is incredibly reasonable. I'd called a couple services that would have needed me to mail off the drive and they quoted me much higher rates as their minimums. I'm so glad I found Nerd Rangers. They're local and kept me updated every step of the way. I can't recommend them enough. Thanks again guys!

They ran their tests, charged me a fee and could not replicate the failure. Once I got the computer home, it crashed once the game was being played and they said they did everything they could and I was out of luck. I decided months later to see Adam at nerd rangers. He was very thorough in gaining background on the issue. He asked me whether the other repair shop tried to run the actual game? I was not sure so he went ahead and loaded Fortnite and said he would do his best to replicate the issue. Later that day he reached out to let me know that he believes he found the reason the game crashed (as it did for him) and he felt confident that he fixed the issue. When I went to pick up the computer he reassured me that if for some reason the fix didn't work he would continue to work with me to identify the problem. Happy to report that I've run multiple games with zero crashes and everything is running fine. The level of service, detailed questions and customer care was excellent. Thanks Adam!

Paid for rush service ($270 - 3 service attempts)) to serve a 30 day notice (over a 6 day period…read moregoing into a weekend) to evict persons living in a probate estate home. Server stuck a copy of the notice in the door on second attempt because he "saw rubbish" outside and assumed they had moved. With that inexperienced and stupid attempt he basically told the occupants what he was doing. (I was told by the office that he had 10 years with the company) Three attempts means three attempts, lousy or not. The same night my client heard from a third party in communication with the occupants that they had found the notice (not legal service). I emailed the company THAT NIGHT and told them what had happened. The server had gone out the third time the next morning prior to the company contacting him. The entire time of the contract, it took the office HOURS to contact the server (they told ME this) They gave me one more service attempt because they had admitted they screwed up. The server saw lights on and heard voices inside but (surprise) they wouldn't open the door. For the last three days of the service period, I emailed the company for status without response approximately 10 times. When I called, they told me that they received the emails, and were waiting for their server to respond. I've been practicing law 30 years and have used many companies for service of process. This company had no plan on how you serve an individual, made fatal errors, and had poor communication both internally and with the client. I wouldn't use MSI to serve a notice to a child's teacher that they were sick that day, let alone anything important. Without any doubt among the worst in the Chicago area. Stay away and don't waste your money. ----- Regarding the owner's response below, it is utter nonsense. I sent these guys to serve notice on a vacant house for $270? The owner is lying. I told them three people lived there. They were sent there to serve notice, not to make a judgment call on occupancy? Oh, and do people ever leave a house? Their server left a notice in the door, effectively rendering any future attempts futile. The woman in their office admitted it, that's why they gave me an extra attempt. It wasn't a "courtesy" attemp. They screwed up. You have a weekend job and you don't communicate with the client? That's poor business practice. As far a suggestions. YOU MADE NONE except a stakeout which given your track record would be a waste of time and money.. I emailed 6 times Monday morning for status, and called when you didn't answer. Hey man. I know it's painful to get a bad review. But you should suck it up and try to get better instead of lying on Yelp. You have a poorly run business.

I gave three stars based on the Yelp label for this rating: This company is okay. Not terrible, not…read moreexcellent. I dropped a running external hard drive containing important, non-backed-up data. I left my device at their downtown drop-off location. I received the results of the diagnostic evaluation and a cost estimate (around $1,500) about 3.5 days later. A hard drive containing my data arrived at my house 18 days after the initial drop-off. Pros: --They recovered 100% of my irreplaceable data. --They shipped the data on a new hard drive directly to my house, and the shipping time was fast. --They have a 10% student discount. --Their online document management system makes it easy to keep track of what you have agreed to/what their policies are as you're going along. --Due to their mistake, they ended up sending me a new hard drive for free. They usually charge for this. Cons: --After they sent the data to me, they e-mailed me basically begging for positive reviews. They offered a $5 Starbucks gift card if I would review them on Google Pages. --Your device must be shipped from the drop-off location, downtown, to a repair lab somewhere "In Chicago." Versus a recovery company that has you bring your device directly to the lab (ACE recovery in Chicago does this), this might add to your wait time for a diagnosis. --Communication was sometimes slow. I left one phone message on both day 1 and day 2 after drop-off asking for an update on the status of my case (e.g., "Can you confirm that you got the hard drive?"). These calls were not returned. When I finally spoke with Mark on Day 3 he said he would e-mail me a report in "2 minutes" and it took 1 hour. --They seemed disorganized. I specified on one of their forms that I would rather provide a new hard drive than purchase one from them. They did not honor this.

A complete waste of time - I feel cheated and scammed. My Mac M1 needed repair. I sent it to them…read moreand was told that my Mac would be completely unusable after their attempt for recovery. I waited and waited for their services and nobody reached out. I was told it would take 4 weeks to find out the status of my recovery... almost 3 MONTHS later of waiting I decided to reach out to them directly. After reaching out directly, I finally got a response. What was strange is that when they FINALLY responded it just felt like they had kind of forgotten about my Mac (that I sent in months ago) for repair and seemed to kind of play it off like they had been working diligently and "trying methods" the entire time. (Seems to me like they just completely forgot) Sure enough, after about 2 days (ironically AFTER I reached out) the tech let me know that my data couldn't be recovered. They then asked if I'd like to "recycle" the "scrap metal" (are you kidding?) or pay a shipment fee to get my "scrap metal" back. I ended up shipping it back. After a shipment fee and an incredibly long wait, I got my Mac and it looked EXACTLY the same as when I sent it in. (Incredibly WEIRD) - Something told me to try to boot it up. I booted it up and it was literally NO different from when I first sent it. After being told I couldn't ever use it again, and here I am, typing this review on the VERY SAME MAC THAT I SENT IN. I literally found a YouTube tutorial and it took me 2 minutes to solve the issue. A total waste of time and money. Never using their services again.
