This was such a cute event, and the ornaments were reasonably priced. I love how they featured local artists at this event, so that we were able to interact with them and create a one-of-a-kind ornament together. Perfect opportunity to pick up a last minute gift and grab a locally made card. It was the coolest idea and brought people into Type High. I loved their prints and picked up a few cards and posters on the trip. The space is on Railroad St. Between Rohrbach's and the Public Market. You'll see a small sign on the door and go up a flight of stairs that leads into the studio. It's filled with all the cool letterpress stamps and tons of their prints were hanging on the wall and boxes filled with different themes cards, everything from happy birthday to babies and anniversary cards. Lots of quippy imagery and sayings, like "Happy F*cking Whatever!" We have a ton of awesome letterpress studios in ROC so it's cool to see the variety between the different spaces. We started off thinking we didn't care too much about the invitations--because we thought (incorrectly), who remembers an invitation? But once we started looking, we decided that we didn't want something out-of-the-box and boring. Amy created a gorgeous invitation suite and customized it further with a little art we requested. And she did these gorgeous letterpress invitations better price than the boring, digitally printed generic stuff we saw at invitation stores. When we received our invitations, I didn't want to take them out of the gorgeous boxes she packed them in--her packaging alone was Pinterest worthy! I would hire her just to wrap holiday gifts if I could, it was that lovely. But alas, we opened the boxes, assembled the invitation suites and mailed everything out. And the rave reviews are POURING in. I never expected it, but we are getting emails and phone calls from loads of friends and family telling us how our invitations are the best they've ever seen. Amy is a pleasure to work with. I would give her 10 stars if I could.

I dropped off three tube feeders during the week and got a call over the weekend to pick them up. The service is free, but they take donations for Wild Wings (excellent non-profit in Mendon Ponds Park that cares for animals who are too injured to live in the wild). The Bird House does have a wide range of bird seed and feeders, but there are plenty of gifts, games, and decor to keep you browsing for a while. They have birding and garden books, binoculars, and jewelry. My father-in-law is outdoorsy, so we put together a gift basket of some hand tools, a bird seed scoop, and some squirrel repellent items (all natural!) I also saw that they do a free puzzle swap on occasion. If you like gardening or birding (or know someone who does) this is a great place to check out.

They've got chocolates of all kinds, tea and coffee ground to order (which I wish I'd known before I'd bought mine elsewhere), beauty products, stuffed animals, coasters, books, flasks, camping gear, cookware, Bills gear, candy, and of course, socks, cards, mugs, shirts, hats, and anything else you could want with clever and funny little sayings. It's located in a small ski village, and -- never one to turn down the chance to check out a new place -- I jumped at the chance. Street parking was relatively easy to find, and we soon were meandering through the downtown at the foothills of the ski resort. With hills all around us and brilliantly color-changing leaves, it was here to beat the beautiful setting. If you know local festivals, you know what to expect -- booths with all sorts of arts, crafts, snacks, and unique local finds lined the middle of the streets, which had been closed off for pedestrian-only traffic. We perused the different booths and stores before stopping a spell for lunch. Happen to be out this way in the fall? Head on over and check it out for a relaxed afternoon in a colorful and cozy setting.

The church just inside town was graciously offering "donation" parking (as opposed to the $10 parking further into town), and since it was on the edge of town, made it super easy to leave when we were done. The town of Ellicottville is also very charming, and I would love to come back again to enjoy the area on a normal day!

There were plenty of vendors selling seasonal goods, crafts and antiques. There were plenty of reasonably priced pumpkins of all shapes, colors and sizes being sold as well . Just a very cute little festival that I would attend again . There were food vendors with many delicious seasonal foods to try. The apple sausage is back and said to be very good ! Amish baked goods were delicious, chowder , salt potatoes , apple cider slushes and much more . They are also open late on Thursdays and second Friday, and admission is half price after 5pm on those days, which is nice for people who work a 9-5. They also have tours that are included in the price of admission. The last time that I visited, I was able to participate in one of the Thursday night MAG general collection tours. Everyone who worked there was very kind, and the tour included some interesting history about Rochester that I would have never otherwise known. For a local museum, the collections are very interesting and cover a broad range. There are also some big names in American art, so try to spot them! They also have a small but good impressionist collection. One of the coolest aspects of this museum is the baroque organ which is played on Sunday afternoons.

I never really noticed this place before, probably because I wasn't painting at the time. I recently took up, watercolor, and brought all my stuff up here, but needed a few extra supplies. During my first visit, I noticed they had a workshop on that upcoming Saturday, and I eagerly signed up for it. It was an all-day workshop with Paul Taylor, and he was an INCREDIBLE instructor. Even though I had taken classes for three months before we left Texas, I learned so much from him in that one day. The class focused on doing one painting from beginning to end, and you would think an seven hour day would be too much for one painting, but it was absolutely perfect. It allowed us to take our time and allowed time for him to explain every move and assist us as we painted. Now about the shop... What a jewel! It is very well stocked, and had almost everything I needed, except for a couple of paint colors. But to top it off, the owner was working the day I visited, and she was so incredibly helpful. She walked around and helped me find everything I needed, and we had a wonderful visit while I was there. I returned again on another day when a young woman was working, and she was equally as helpful and enjoyable. When we come up here next year, I think I'm going to base our visits around the classes they offer. I would love to take the watercolor class that they offer that goes on for several weeks. If you consider yourself even remotely, creative and artistic, skip Hobby Lobby, and Michaels and support this wonderful local establishment.

Beyond that, I've perused this shop many a time to find cool art deco prints, Rochester subway maps, and vintage magazine covers (specifically love the New Yorker ones - great gifts!). They have some stuff you might not find elsewhere and you can get it framed if your heart so desires. I usually will stop in here to check out their selection after grabbing a bite to eat at Aladdin's or elsewhere on this strip of Monroe.

I stumbled across it during one of their 2 (I think) annual open houses (which I believe are on a First Friday with extra hours). The military museum is awesome, the guys who run it are awesome, and they have awesome stories. Every time I go in there I talk with them for a while and hear more and more stories of where all the materials in there came from. The different galleries and spaces are excellent too. So many talented people and a great place to go get gifts for any reason. Its not just art, there are so many different things that are made in there from clothes to crafts to...well...you name it. Definitely one of the places that more people in the city should check out.
