Wow wow wooooow!! I can't recommend The Hot Spot enough! Every staff member I've interacted with…read morehas been so kind, welcoming, helpful, and incredibly knowledgeable. They truly make every visit such a fun and relaxing experience. A special thank you to MJ for going above and beyond. She is one of the sweetest people I've met and generously offered to do a photoshoot for me and my two friends. She even surprised us by making our pottery on the house! It was such a thoughtful gesture that made the entire experience even more memorable Thank you, MJ, for creating such a welcoming space where I've been able to make my Miffy bowl series, with many more pieces to come. As a frequent customer, I'll definitely be back!!

My fiancé and I came to paint our wedding cake plate on a Sunday morning. There were a lot of…read moreoptions for what we could paint, and I love that the price of the piece is what you pay with no other fees added on. We spent three hours painting and hanging out. The space is mostly catered to kids, but we saw people of all ages crafting and chatting. On a warmer day, we probably would have sat outside as it can get really crowded inside. We were never bumped, but sometimes kids would run by on their way to get paint. My only other complaint (which is more so my fault) was that we sat at stools at a shorter table so I was hunched over for a while. I'm just old. The staff was really friendly, and I like that there's a BYOB policy. I would probably suggest going later in the evening to avoid all the birthday parties as it was pretty quiet when we came to pick up our piece near closing.

The teacher/host was friendly, had good painting tips and guidance, and was very enthusiastic with his work. And dang it, painting is hard! This time it was Starry Night in San Diego. But I went off on a tangent and added a AT-AT, Death Star, Klingon Bird of Prey, a USS Enterprise, Star Destroyer, a Borg Cube, and an Ion Cannon, but no one seems to see that, doh! Unlike the 1st Grade, the teacher did not scold me or give me a "F" for not following instructions. IRONY: We paid $30, but it does not include wine, you still have to buy wine(or whatever) at the venue. Luckily it was still Happy Hour, so I got a beer for only $4. I might have subtracted a star it if it was more expensive, but since they call themselves "Wine and Paint" they should at least include a crappy plastic cup of Charles Shaw or Tisdale. Right? I still had a great time, so I'm going to let that slide... Note: I'm not a single guy, but if you are, this good place to meet girls...the class comprised of about 25 girls, me, and a very bored looking guy dragged here by girlfriend. Just place yourself in strategic spot...you'll have just over 3 hours to turn your small talk into a Facebook Friend Request, or more.

On display in the window was shelves full of an interesting variety of ceramics. We decided to check it out. We've walked by many times on our way to and from La Doña and never noticed Claytime Ceramics and Gifts. Upon walking in we were cheerfully greeted by Caroline the owner. She explained that her shop is a DIY ceramics shop. You choose a piece and paint it. She even offers classes for making pottery on a pottery wheel. One wall was lined with wheels. There are tables set up for people to create their pieces. When we were there a small family (mom, dad, two small kids) was at a table painting away. Caroline is super nice. She was so friendly and excited to share. Her passion for her art and sharing her knowledge were palpable. This really looked like a great couples, family or group activity. The next time you're strolling along Bacon Street in OB, stop in and say hi to Caroline at Claytime Ceramics!

We know nothing about making pottery so we appreciated how hands on her guiding was. Then we got to come back and paint the bowls (all included in the price). We just waited for her message of when the bowls were ready to paint and booked a time with her. Really loved the experience. The shop is very cute and there's a very cute cat the roams the shop!

Here's the revised version:…read more The owner contacted me and offered a free event, which I declined, requesting a refund instead. She then offered a 20% refund and asked me to change my review, which I again declined. She claimed that despite paying for full event planning services, the event was subpar because I hadn't been involved in planning it. They didn't call. They didn't ask me to go their warehouse. They didn't do anything until the week of the event, when they tried to fit me into their random available times to walk them through my space via FaceTime. To clarify, I paid $2,000 for someone to plan and orchestrate an event. What I received was maybe a $200-$300 setup, and it's apparently my fault for not planning the event I paid someone to plan. She argued that I should have requested changes during the setup. However, I wasn't home at the time. The whole point of hiring this service was to arrive at a fully set-up event with my guests. When I arrived, they were still setting up as my guests were arriving (even though they were supposed to have been gone by then). So, there wasn't time to make changes, and it would have been an awkward conversation anyway. Instead of blaming me, they should have done the job they were paid to do or not sold the package in the first place. To add insult to injury, she compared this situation to eating a pizza and then requesting a refund. This was over $2k. It's not even close to ordering a pizza and asking for a refund. She ripped me off. I stand by my request for a full refund. She should have offered that refund on her own. This event was pitiful. I will never use their services again or recommend them to anyone.

Andrea did an amazing job with the decorating and was very welcoming and accommodating to my events needs. The table decor and balloon decor was spot on and we loved it all!
