I'm so happy I found Mary Catherine Photography. I went through various hashtags on Instagram to…read morefind someone who was doing fall minis, and just couldn't have gotten luckier. Not only were the photos fast (you're in and out in 20 minutes) but we got TONS of great shots in a variety of poses. She made the toddler in the family look like a child model and managed to make him smile a genuine smile for every shot he's in. Magic! My husband's sister lost her job due to COVID, so she's temporarily playing nanny to her cousin's toddler. There's so much about the pandemic that isn't great, but having so much family so close by for once is a small silver lining to this whole thing, and we wanted to document it by getting some family shots. Even though it was an overcast, humid day, the pictures all came out great and are cheerfully gloomy, with rich dark green backgrounds and pops of color from our outfits. We had trouble choosing our favorites! She even rolled with the punches when I brought some fans with other cousin's faces on them so they could "be" in the photo we send to Grammy and just acted like that was a fine and normal thing to bring to a shoot :).

We bought a photo sitting from the Picture Story Studio a couple of years ago. When my wife and I…read moresaw the offer, it was the right time. We bid on the offer, got it and told our parents that we were going to send them a picture of the family and kids - we were excited. However, what we got did not meet our expectations. The photo shoot was outdoors and should have been casual in a natural setting. Unfortunately, we were asked to sit in very conservative poses which did not match the setting our our family style. When we met to review the photos, there was very little we liked. We noted that in one set of photos, a big fat guy was standing in the bushes behind us - the photographer told us that he could be removed from the photo. Two things seemed strange to me - 1. That a professional photographer would not see a fat guy standing in the bushes behind us, and 2. that he would even suggest that we alter the photo so much. In the end, the photo shoot cost much more than we expected. We were not happy with the photos and did not like any enough to get them printed in a large format. We got them framed at another location. We are thrilled that the company supports local charities and hope it continues to do so. Perhaps, I should take some of the blame - one should be comfortable with a photographer at the outset and should be aware of all the costs of the project. Perhaps buying a discounted photo shoot is always a bad idea and this should be a warning for people buying charity and groupon discounted shoots. If the deal seems too good, it probably is. Based on the testimonials on the company's website, it seems that other people are happy - I'm sorry that I was not.

She has a great reputation. Her photos make me look better than I ever have, without any photoshopping, tricky lighting, or fuzzy lensing (LOL). She also has a great personality which made me feel less weird about having my picture done, and in the wake of the photo shoot, I feel like posting all the great photos she took of me to facebook, though I will probably restrain myself. Now I plan to ask her to take some photos of my artwork as well.
