Planning a wedding can be hard. Planning a wedding during a pandemic when venues keep switching their COVID requirements and procedures is even harder. It is hard to put into words just how happy we were with our experience with Creative Affairs. With three months until our wedding, we found ourselves without a reception venue. Our planner Jessica and the team at Creative Affairs was able to help us scramble and find an amazing venue for our reception at the last minute, doing the heavy lifting with all of our vendors to coordinate the change in plans. The event went seamlessly & without stress, hugely important for a special day.. Everything came together & our vision was beautifully displayed. We received so many compliments on how classy and well run the event was and 100% of the credit goes to the creative affairs team. The best decision we made for our wedding was hiring a planner through Creative Affairs. We initially met with Amanda, and we knew almost instantly we wanted to hire her company for full service wedding planning. Caitlyn was our planner, and she literally helped give us the wedding of our dreams. Neither my husband or myself had super visions for what we wanted our wedding to be, and trusted Caitlyn wholeheartedly...and boy, did she not disappoint. Jessica did a great job helping us with our wedding. She recreated a google docs and shared it with us immediately. We stayed connected filling in our the details and ensuring everything went as planned. She came through for us and made some good recommendations vendors. She brought us hors d'oeuvres from our cocktail hour to make sure we had a chance to try them. She also made sure we stayed hydrated with water and got us some champagne throughout the event. My partner and I are very happy with how our wedding turned out. However, we are very displeased with the job that Amber from Creative Affairs did. We reached out to the company and provided feedback in line with this review and the overall response, although including an apology in name, came across more defensive on a point by point basis rather than receptive and internalizing the feedback in substance. We therefore felt it would be a disservice to other couples not to share our experience. During the entire many month planning process, Amber was difficult to work with. Despite us asking to do video calls for planning, she seemed to insist on telephone calls. We sometimes had family members to make for a total of five people on the line, which made things very difficult, especially since most of our calls took place before ever meeting her in person. The way she came across on the phone often made us feel as though we were inconveniencing her and we became uncomfortable asking questions. One of the ways that she really made us feel insignificant was how she consistently and with great diversity spelled both of our names incorrectly, even though our names were listed in the shared email we were using to correspond with her, and we signed our names with the correct spelling each time. As we were so far into the wedding planning process, we attempted to reframe in our minds the money we were paying her and the company as really paying for some advice prior to the wedding, but that she'd hopefully really come through as a day-of planner. We certainly did not get the vision advice we were hoping for. For a couple examples, I asked where we could donate our flowers to after the wedding. The one place she had sent us I had already reached out to and they were not responding, and when I asked for other recommendations, she said she had none. when we asked her about a local printer to use to support local business, she suggested Fedex. Little did we know, the day of our wedding and the day of our rehearsal she may have been the least professional of the entire time together. She introduced herself to my bridesmaids by saying "I'll try to learn your names by tomorrow, but I'll never see you again, so it doesn't really matter." Several of my bridesmaids came up to me shocked by how rude she was, especially since a lot of people find their wedding vendors at friends' weddings. She then proceeded to tell my bridesmaids to go to the wrong room to get ready for the wedding day in, and at a time that was different than on the listed schedule. This was the first I heard of this change and I said so much. Instead of responding something like 'oh yes we had to change it sorry for not letting you know earlier,' she just kept saying she fixed it. She did not define what needed to be fixed or why, and seemed always most preoccupied with proving she's right than being helpful. One upsetting interaction that stands out the most was at the end of rehearsal she rudely said to my mother "calm down, mom." Which brings me to the day of my wedding. I was busy with a number of things on the wedding day, and had difficulty accessing the schedule (there were none printed out). I asked Amber for the schedule, and she sent me instructions on how to access it on google docs. I asked her again for the actual pdf, since I was otherwise busy, and never received it. The next time I saw Amber was when no one in the bridal or grooms party knew where to go after pictures were taken and before the ceremony (we had never received the pdf). Eventually, she started leading us through the hotel lobby amidst arriving wedding guests. Fifteen minutes before the ceremony she said that there was no communal glass for our wine ceremony and no red wine. We asked our officiant to buy a bottle from the hotel bar, and the problem was easily resolved. She insisted, however, that there was no communal glass, though labeled she did not understand that we were using the communal glass (which can also be a candle glass) as a glass. We explained that to her and she was able to find it minutes before the ceremony. During the ceremony, I noted that she did not take the time to take the candle out of the glass though she knew we were going to be drinking from it. Again, my partner and I are quite happy with how our wedding turned out in the end. We are happy with and highly recommend every other vendor. In fact, a glass of red wine was spilled all over my wedding dress, and I was still a very happy bride. read more

I had the privilege of having Stefanie as my coordinator for my wedding this October. From our initial interaction to after the wedding was over, she was incredible. She offered plenty of recommendations for our other vendors and was always there to offer reassurance or answer any of the million questions I had. Knowing that I had her to handle the day's logistics made my day so much more enjoyable. I had zero worries and was able to be fully present on my wedding day. I was also told to pass along compliments from my guests, who noticed how organized and confident our coordinator was. Amanda is the worst wedding planner in San Diego - if you go with her, you're going to get what you deserve. Let me regale you with our tail of the disaster that is Amanda's service: We first met Amanda when looking at the Diamond View Terrace, then again when we decided to check out the San Diego Wine and Culinary Center for our wedding. At first she seemed with it, competent and organized. We soon learned how not true this is. When I'm planning events, the first thing I make sure I do is communicate with the people I am working with. Amanda apparently didn't get this message. While we were trying to book the SDWCC for our wedding, she wouldn't return calls or emails and when she finally did was vague with details. We always got the feeling we were and inconvenience to her rather than a customer. I think this stems from the fact that as event planners, my fiancee and I know what we want and she couldn't pull her usual BS on us. But what really set me off was what happened a few weeks ago: We had been having problems with SDWCC and were looking for other venues. Amanda had actually stopped working with them. Then we get an email saying she was back on staff, that things had changed and she would call us to discuss. Mind you this was occurring when we were trying to sign a contract a put a $7000 deposit on the venue. Nothing for three days, despite numerous calls and emails from myself and my fiancee. When we finally did get hold of her we were told our contract was basically garbage and changes would have to be made. She then went on to say she "didn't recall" 90% of the items that SHE PUT INTO OUR ORIGINAL CONTRACT!!!!!! And that she would research them but was in meetings for like the next 5 years so couldn't guarantee when. The 5 years is an exaggeration, but the rare times I could get hold of her, she couldn't deal with it now because of her "meetings". read more

Amanda is the best event planner I have ever worked with! She did our wedding, and what a great job. BRAVO! She is so detailed oriented, always on top of things, made sure things ran so smoothly! This was the single best thing I did for my wedding was hiring Amanda. She is totally on top of her game. She is calm cool and collected and a great communicator. We had a small destination wedding in San Diego (we live in DC) being small does not necessarily mean less expensive especially when doing a destination wedding. It also does not mean, less work! If it hadn't been for Amanda, I would've been lost on things to do for my wedding day. I selected the Diamond View Tower as the venue for my wedding, and lucky enough, Amanda's service was included in the cost. Yes, my wedding was expensive, but with everything she helped out with, plus the great view of Petco Park and the San Diego skyline, it was well worth the price. About a month before the wedding, I met up with Amanda to set up a schedule for the wedding: arrival time, first dance, meal time, cake, bouquet toss, etc. These were all things that I thought just kind of went one after the other, but thankfully, she provided each vendor with a set schedule so everything ran smoothly. She also provided several tables for us which helped lessen some of the caterer's cost. I was having issues with our caterer (damn lady made me cry... literally), and Amanda dealt with her the final days leading up to the wedding. That was a huge relief for me. Amanda told me from the beginning "Your wedding day will be about you. I want you to enjoy it, and I'll take care of all the behind the scenes stuff". She was right :) Go with Amanda! This review is for Stefanie Muse, our most amazing wedding coordinator. She was the single best thing that could have happened for us on the most anticipated day of our lives. A week before our wedding at the ultimate skybox, she met with us to get all of the details for our big day. All unfinished business was taken care of by her, Which helped us to enjoy the entire week leading up to our wedding. Everything went off without a hitch, every last detail and small request (and more) was followed up on. She asked all the right questions, and squashed any impeding roadblocks. The day of was absolutely flawless. Seriously, FLAWLESS!! I never felt rushed, but she was there to make sure everything was in place, we had fun, and that the entire day ran smoothly. We were hesitant to splurge on a planner (lucky for us it was included in our package), but realized after that the event was successful, and we were able to enjoy it completely because of her. Amanda and the entire Creative Affairs team made our wedding at the Diamond View Tower perfect! The amount of support and effort they put into our wedding not only gave me piece of mind, but took so much stress off me so that I could focus on my new husband and we could enjoy our wedding together. From our first meeting, Amanda was a great source of information on all things wedding. We wanted something very urban with a great city view. So, she helped us coordinate our ceremony at Centennial Park followed by our reception at Diamond View Tower. Besides doing the expected wedding coordinator tasks (confirming and reviewing contracts, providing references and suggestions for vendors, hosting venue walk thrus...) Amanda took on so many other roles. She was our go to person for wedding etiquette, our task manager when we were too busy with work, and our voice of reason when we were feeling stressed or torn between two vendors. One of the most memorable things that Amanda did actually took place the day after our wedding. A family friend had lent me the six pence that she wore in her shoe when she married her husband 45 years ago. While at Centennial, the six pence fell out and I thought it was gone forever. Amanda went to the park and helped to look for the six pence. Luckily, they found it, but this shows that even after the ceremony is over, Amanda will be there for her bride and groom in any moment of need. This review is for Pili and Chauncy. Pili was our coordinator for the whole process leading up to the big day. I still don't know how she managed to keep all my details straight, I'm amazed! She managed all my vendors, kept me on my timeline, answered emails in minutes, sent over advice with every question, and kept me calm. Everything I could think to ask, she had an answer for, and everything I didn't even think to ask she was on top of! She was personally involved in many of our decisions that I wouldn't have ever thought to have a coordinator involved in and became a huge part of the whole thing. I could not have done it without her experience, professionalism and friendship! Chauncy was there the day of and I was totally worried about meeting her for the first time the day before our wedding. I had no idea how that could possibly work! Well I was very quickly put at ease. She knew every single detail that I had talked over with Pili, had personally spoken with every one of my vendors, and even got some of our bills / charges reduced looking over the outside vendor contracts. She was so attentive the day of, making sure everything ran on time, kept making sure I didn't need anything, asking if i wanted to eat, drink, hear anything in particular etc. She kept everything moving perfectly and handled the end of the night ruckus perfectly, packing up and cleaning everything for us so we just left in our joyful and happy group, without worry. I realize that Creative Affairs does not only work at the Ultimate Skybox, however I must say, I cannot imagine a more beautiful location. Amanda, Pili and Chauncey at Creative Affairs did the most wonderful job helping plan my recent wedding at the Ultimate Skybox at Diamond View Tower. I don't know how I could have done it without them! I worked with Pili throughout the year emailing back and forth about all the details. She did a great job helping us plan the layout of the event (we did a non-traditional flow reception which means we didn't have any assigned seating.. we didn't want to deal with seating arrangements and wanted a fun, lounge like atmosphere... A REAL PARTY!). She was also very prompt in all her responses to our inquiries and gave great advice and helped me see the bigger picture instead of focusing on minor details that would just stress me out lol. Chauncey was our day-of coordinator and let me tell you, this girl is the bomb dot com! She was so helpful and so patient. She made sure we ate and had a drink in our hand at all times... if anyone knows me, those two things are very important to me haha. She did a fantastic job making everything look BEAUTIFUL and just as I envisioned it. I could not have pulled off the evening without her. From rehearsal to end, she was a true professional and I can't thank her enough. I also appreciate that even though my dad and uncle were supposed to help breakdown and bring down boxes at the end of the night, she never once bothered them and did everything behind the scenes. We used Jessica and Creative Affairs to organize and stage our daughter's wedding in Coronado, California. We were more than satisfied with results. Although my wife and daughter thought it was necessary, I was strongly against using a company to organize the event. My lack of understanding to what was going to be involved in the planning, as well as the day itself, puts me in the current position, where I cannot comprehend how we might have had such a successful evening without Jessica and her team from Creative Affairs Leading up to the wedding, we were extremely busy. Jessica was constantly on us to ensure all the decisions required for the day were completed. From ensuring proper permits were in place for the beach ceremony, to organizing the vendors prior to the wedding, she made sure everything was going to be in place. The planning was only a prelude to where Creative Affairs and Jessica excelled. The day of the wedding, prior to the ceremony, Jessica was everywhere, ensuring everything was as expected both at the location of the ceremony and the reception. I cannot go through the entire list of exactly what she did for us during the day of the wedding, the list we are aware of would be too much to produce and would not do justice to what we are continuing to learn she did, as well as those things we may never know. However, I can say, had it not been for Jessica and Creative Affairs clearly gifted understanding of what needed to happen and the ability to execute as necessary, both my wife and I would not have been able to enjoy the time with our daughter and her now husband during the hours leading up to the ceremony. This conversation has all been about our ability to relax and do what we were there to do, which was to enjoy our daughter, her husband's experience and entertain and our some 100 guests. Chauncey is the best in the wedding industry. Without her my wedding would have been a complete mess. She met up with my multiple times throughout the planning process and went over every single detail. My reception was at The Ultimate Skybox downtown and my ceremony was at Paradise Point (reviewed in another review). Chauncey even helped me with my timeline throughout the whole day. My only regret was that I did not hire her to do my ceremony at Paradise Point. She was literally on top of her game and the most amazing person out there to help us! I could not have been happier. I have not worked with Amanda, but I had the pleasure of working with her Event Coordinator; Stefanie Muse. I can't say enough about Stefanie! In all my years of working in the wedding industry, I have never come across a coordinator as amazing as Stefanie. She did not miss a step. The entire event from start to finish was completely flawless. This wedding had it all too! A ceremony that had a transition to a different location for a cocktail hour, and that had another transition to the reception area, not to mention all the challenges that each location posed. The ceremony and the cocktail hour both had live music, which means dealing with musicians as well as sound technicians and all of the set up that goes along with it. The reception had a video montage and extra lighting that included up lighting as well as an adobo set up. Then there was the bartender, the DJ, the caterer, the venue staff, the reception sound technician and the photographers and video-ographers! But let's not forget the bride and groom, the bridal party, the parents of the bride and groom and 200 other guests.... It wasn't so much that Stefanie was able to coordinate all of this to perfection.... It was the way that she did it. You would think, that in order to keep all of the vendors and all of the guests and the bridal party moving together as flawlessly as they did, you would need some kind of "drill instructor" or something. ...but that's not how Stefanie was. She was happy and calm and sweet and at times it seemed as though she was actually having fun! I think she might have even liked her job...! ....weird If I could, I would give Stefanie and Creative Affairs 10 stars. I just hope I get the honor of working with them again. At one point in the evening, I went to find a venue staff member to ask a question about the video. Out of nowhere, Stefanie pops up and answers my question before I can even finish asking it! From the start Stefanie put my mind at ease with all of her suggestions and advice. I booked Stefanie for our day of coordination (through a referral of one of my bridesmaids). Pili is definitely the salesgirl - and she's effective! She's also available at odd hours via email and responds very quickly to anything you send. Amanda did as well, despite the fact that she was pregnant and gave birth to a baby during the time she was helping me out... and helped out for well over the amount of time we paid for. Look, the girl was amazing. Pick up the phone and call her now. She met all expectations, but the reason she's got five stars instead of four is that she did a lot of things that were just not on her contract. I'll regale you with those tales because let's be honest here, those are the things which really set someone apart from the pack: Despite having no contract, money, or anything agreed to yet, Amanda met with me for over an hour at coffee and freely gave me lots of really great ideas for colors, places to call for rentals of tablecloths, color scheme ideas, etc. It was like having a girlfriend to discuss every decision with, but someone who has pretty much seen it all and who doesn't make one misguided or seemingly judgemental comment. As well as one who has all the time in the world to listen to your wedding plans and actually likes doing it (or pretends really well) because that, my friend, is what she gets paide to do. The week of, she showed up, picked up all the guest bags, delivered them all over Coronado and Downtown (even to vacation rental homes in both places) without batting an eyelash. This was not written in her contract but she agreed to do it. Amanda showed up at the house the day of the wedding because my sister called her to help out with a minor emergency for the ceremony, not realizing Amanda was only contracted for the reception... Amanda didn't argue, she didn't say a word, she simply showed up at my door and made a sticky situation just go away. While I was busy dancing and visiting at the wedding, she went to the room to make sure my bag was there (she had to search for it at the bell desk) so I could just run back and change to the party dress without wasting time tracking it down. In accordance with her contract, she set all the menus and placecards out, set up the gift table, put out my grandmothers crystal glasses for us to toast with and then whisked all the presents and set up items to my parents' room at the end of the night. It was like nothing had happened... when the party was over, the party was over. We didn't have to worry about cleaning up. I'm telling you, this girl is the bee's knees... Look, don't look anywhere else, just stop right there. She's reasonable, she's nice, she's friendly, she's personable, she's got a great business going. You're crazy if you don't hire her. read more

As an out-of-town bride planning a small wedding in Coronado (about 115 people), I couldn't have asked for a better coordinator than Stephanie V. She really came through with her professionalism, organization and execution. Stephanie was a great listener and creatively took my vague ideas and made a beautiful wedding. Stephanie was available and flexible for meetings, wonderfully organized (check lists, emails, the works), and was thoughtful about all family members involved in the planning process. With her knowledge and warmth, we all felt like every question and situation was covered completely. I selected the middle package, where I sought out the contracts and Stephanie took over after it was signed. It was great that she has strong relationships with vendors in the area and could give detailed descriptions of different services to help us make the best decisions for our big day. First, let me say that every penny we spent with Creative Affairs was worth it! I was a bit hesitant to book a wedding planner, but I'm so glad we did! We had a unique situation; we live in Germany and were planning a wedding in San Diego. After an initial meeting with the owner of Creative Affairs, Amanda McPhail, and our planner, Robyn Fallon, I knew we were in great hands! They were extremely attentive and made me feel confident that we could plan the wedding of our dreams from afar. We worked with the owner of Creative Affairs, Amanda McPhail, and she was very professional but also down to earth and personable!! She definitely knew her stuff and took so much pressure off me as a bride by being organized and on top of everything! I didn't have a full on wedding planner and I've never planned such a big event so I relied on Amanda to guide me through the process and she did a great job!! She checked in with me regularly which kept me on task and kept me from leaving things until the last minute. 5 Stars for Creative Affairs! We contacted Creative Affairs a couple of years ago because we were interested in having our wedding reception at the Ultimate Skybox. Being from Northern California, I anticipated that the process would be difficult and stressful planning from afar. We first met with Karen, who met us at the Skybox and showed us around. We were blown away by the venue, as well as Karen's professionalism. We had looked at 3 other venues that day, and my husband immediately decided that this was the place. I should note that originally he had refused to look at the Skybox, stating that it was too expensive. But when we looked at the paperwork and pricing, it became clear that it was actually more affordable than many other venues in town. I was pleased to find that the Skybox/Creative Affairs was very straightforward with their pricing and policies. There were no "service charges" (like every other venue in SD), and all optional charges were given to us in writing immediately upon request. I loved the fact that their paperwork was so clear - I didn't get the feeling that they were trying to hide anything. My husband and I ended up waiting another year to get married, as I was finishing school and we were just too busy. But when we contacted Karen again a year later, she was just as friendly and professional as before and welcomed us back. Since we live in Sacramento, we were able to do all the paperwork and secure our wedding date without having to go back down to SD. I greatly appreciated their willingness to work with us from so far away. About 5 months before the wedding, my husband and I traveled to San Diego again and met with Louisa at the Skybox to go over our floor plan. I was so impressed by her that we decided to hire her for day-of-coordination at our off-site ceremony as well. I should note that I'm quite the control freak and originally said that I would refuse to hire a coordinator because I wanted to be solely in control...(a crazy idea). I am SO thankful that we made the decision to go with the Creative Affairs. My family and bridal party all commented on how well-conducted the rehearsal was and how helpful Louisa was every step of the way. Our wedding day (ceremony and reception) went perfectly. I was able to enjoy the day, knowing that Louisa had everything under control. My mother described her as a "ninja" at the reception, because she was so quick and stealthy running around managing everything. I should also note that we worked with Pili and Amanda during the process, and they were wonderful as well. Every single person at Creative Affairs we interacted with was professional, helpful, courteous and friendly. Another thing that impressed me was that when I told that my other vendors (DJ, photography) that we were working with Creative Affairs, they immediately said how they had worked together before and how they looked forward to working with Louisa again because she and the whole team is so fantastic.
