I had my first session with Jose yesterday. I've been fighting nerve issues for the past year after one of my discs ruptured in my neck. I had ACDF in March, and since then I've had constant pain and rotating nerve numbness and such. I've tried everything! Today I woke up and noticed that my shoulders have dropped a lot to where it doesn't feel like I'm carrying the weight of the world. I'm sore and tender in areas but it's not a bad sore. I already feel tremendous relief in my neck and shoulders. It's been a journey that has almost broken me, but I feel that Jose's work has brought back hope into my life! After several injections, trigger point injections, steroid injections in my spinal column, PT, and many other things - I think I'm on the right path now with Jose. I was lucky to get in to see Joel for a 2nd visit due to a cancellation. Can't believe he was working on July 4th. Sorry I'm just now getting around to a review! I changed around some plans to make it work for me. SO glad I did! That session really opened up my chest muscles so I could move my arms and shoulders in ways I hadn't been able to in years. Hello, lumpy, middle-aged guy, here. Visiting Orlando with my family, being the Dad-Sherpa that I am, when my right hip went ka-plooey. OTC painkillers helped a little, but then the hip went double ka-plooey, and that was all she wrote. I found Creative Bodyworks on a web search, called and spoke with Joel, who connected me with Thomas. Made an appointment for that evening, and I'm glad I did. Right away, realize that Thomas is passionate about what he does to help people. He described the "SET" massage protocol that he wanted to do to help the affected area, and got to work. I'm not a small guy...anybody who's done bodywork on me has had to "dig down deep" to get results, and Thomas was no exception. He worked incredibly hard to work out the tightness and cranky spots, and explained what he was doing as he was doing it. When the two hour treatment was finished, I felt MUCH better. Yes, there's lingering soreness, but I fully expected that. What I didn't expect was to feel as good as I do the following morning as I write this. I wish this was my first stop, I'm healed. On September 15 I woke up with a severe pain in my neck. I went to a chiropractor and twice to the emergency room. I had never experienced severe neck pain before and it migrated to my right arm. After an additional doctor visits and a series of test. I had not been able to sleep fully in one whole month. I contacted Creative Bodyworks and Joel phoned me back and was able to fit me in within two days due to cancellation. Did a little research on SET but was not prepared for the extent of the pressure that I would feel. For me many of the techniques caused the pain to flare up and be more intense. Joel was great at communicating and adjusting to what I could handle. I left my first appointment, wondering if I would feel better or worst. That night was my first night of full sleep. I will say that many of the areas Joel applied pressure were sore to the touch but this is just part of the process. My original pain started to return on third day. On the 6th day I had another session this time with Thomas. His techniques feel slightly different but with many of the same feelings of pressure and release. I'm pleased to say after my second session I'm back to full sleep every night. If you have pain, don't delay call today. Joel is wonderful! I have been struggling with pain for years due to an auto accident. After seeking chiropractic care and physical therapy, I was still in pain every day. Ok, So I have gone to Joel now for about 6 two hour sessions. In May of 2013 I suffered a complex shatter fracture to my lateral tibial plateau. It was surgically corrected with an internal fixation plate and 8 screws. There was quite a bit of damage done to my cartilage and meniscal intrusion due to joint malformation, atrophy and generalized displacement of my entire body. As one could probably guess I was in constant, and worsening pain through out the day. On top of all this I had developed a horrible case of tendonitis on my opposite ankle due to compensation. I had no idea what to do. The anti-inflamitories I was taking weren't doing much. I was in constant moderate pain. So I went to a few massage therapists and received a bit of relief, but not much. But then I discovered Joel. All I can say is WOW. This guy knows his stuff. Before the sessions he always takes 10 minutes to go over the chief complaints and goes over the best treatment plan. During the session he aways communicates what he is about to do and why he's doing it. After several session Joel has taken almost all of the pain associated with my right ankle and has also given me much needed relief with my injured knee. To be quite honest, I don't know where I would be without Joel's services. I must say that while the effects of this mans magic hands are wonderful, be prepared to have an intense session, especially if you are new to therapeutic deep tissue, injury related massage. I recently added 30 minutes of relaxation massage to my 2 hour therapeutic massage and i gotta say... This man will put you on another level... I pretty much was in a limbo of conscious and subconsciousness. It is important to note the Joel in a bigger gentleman who can really shift his weight in just the right places. His hands are strong and can get deeper than most other massage therapists. Joels office is awesome. Its in the corner room of the building facing away from the street so there is minimal outside noise. His table is top of the line with a heater and an eggshell memory foam face cradle. Very Comfortable. If you need to use the bathroom or drink some water during the session he can accommodate. There is always sensual surround sound music that makes one feel like they are in a Buddhist temple. All that being said, Joel's pricing is incredibly fair. I have known Joel since BEFORE he became a massage therapist. He is constantly taking extra classes and seminars to learn more about therapy, and has become quite an expert in rehab work. I was at Disney World for vacation and was planning to get a massage; however, was not willing to pay an exorbitant amount of money for a one-size-fits-all massage. Wanted something more therapeutic, as I was suffering from plantar fasciitis on my left foot and early osteoarthritis on my right knee. Also, I knew the amount of walking I was doing at the parks would not help. I called Joel to make an appt as soon as I got to Orlando; unfortunately, he was booked a month on out. I immediately surmised that he must be an impressive therapist to be booked that far out. But he was able to put me on a waiting list in the event of a cancellation. Well, someone's loss was my gain. Directions to his building were easy, and his office is warm and inviting. Joel was great, welcoming me, courteous and very professional. He gave me a couple of recommendations based on the intake form I had filled out and I chose the lower-body therapy rather than focus on my plantar fasciitis. A heated massage table is always a plus for me, so I saw that as a good sign. Also, the massage he applied was not one I'd ever heard about, Structural Energetic Therapy (SET), which combines various therapeutic protocols that target the causes of body pain and not the pain itself. I have to admit, I felt discomfort when he applied pressure at times, but the pressure didn't last long, just enough to release tightness or blockage. Joel explains what he is doing as he slowly and methodically moves over each body part. And he asks you if you are feeling pain or discomfort at any stage and he will adjust pressure to alleviate your sensitivity. Joel is extremely knowledgeable about the body's mechanics which he imparted as he worked over my limbs. That put me at ease. Honestly, before I knew it, my 2 hours on the table were up! I could tell a difference after, just lying on the massage table. I felt like the small of my back had dropped significantly lower on the table. Also, my hips felt more open, and hardly any plantar fasciitis pain or knee pain. I knew I made the best decision by going to him because of what occurred (or didn't occur) that very same evening. I stood in line for about an hour waiting to get into a culinary event at Disney. Well, normally when I stand for a long period of time, my lower back is aching. It didn't happen! I could have stood there all evening! Not even the slightest ache! I was elated because I knew Joel's therapy had eliminated the ache in my back. Don't get me wrong, I've had all sorts of massages, but they didn't work the magic on my back like Joel did. I've been back home for about a week now since my visit and I am still feeling good. Unfortunately, there isn't anyone in Hawaii who practices SET. Ugh. Closest one is in Colorado! I do know, however, when I come back in May 2016 to run a half marathon that I will definitely schedule an appt--well in advance--before and after the race with Joel. I HIGHLY recommend him. This guy is incredible! I can't wait to book travel to Orlando, just because I am absolutely counting down the days till my next massage with Joel. I am a massage therapist also, and because of it, am very very picky. I read Joel's reviews on Google, and so glad I found him. I've had hundreds of massages from different therapists and some at the best spas in the world. I am so confident in saying he delivers the best, well rounded, detailed and relaxing massage you can find. After a weekend of extensive yard work I pulled my lower back out where it was difficult to sit, stand or even lie down... I heard about Creative Bodyworks from another tenant in the "2111" building on Michigan Street in Orlando where Joel has his office. I called and made an appointment. (He was able to work me in the next day) Upon arriving at the building I was happy to see that there was an elevator since Joel's office is on the second floor and in my condition stairs would have seemed like a mountain. After entering his comfortable and calming office Joel described the various techniques he uses to treat his clients. In my particular case the muscles in my lower back were like concrete which was causing them to spasm. After a comprehensive session of stretching and massaging the muscles began to relax. Although still slightly painful, the session, in my opinion was successful. Less than 12 hours later the vertebrae that had been aggravated moved back into position. This could not have happened without the previously described massage.
