I will NEVER order a cake from here again. Ive ordered cakes from here in the past. And so I had ordered my wedding cake for November 8th to be delivered. I had given all the information where, what time, who to contact. EVERYTHING. There should have been no problems well the day comes and my cake never shows up. The coordinator of the restaurant can not find the cake it was never delivered. Even my florist said she had called endless times and there was never a response. We ended up having to pay for another cake thankfully the restaurant made one in time. I call the shop the day after to get to the bottom of it. they said the cake was delivered and they had a confirmation and come to find out the cake was delivered to the bell desk? I was never notified that the cake was delivered and where to. EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS INSTRUCTIONS TO BE DELIVERED TO NAPA ROSE NOT THE HOTEL. I even gave the shop the name and phone number/email of the restaurant coordinator. The next day I called the bell desk to see if the cake was there and they said yes it's here it was delivered yesterday but was not properly labeled for they did not know where to deliver. I just went there yesterday for the cake tasting and had such a great time! The lady that helped us was really nice, offered us complimentary coffee and water before bringing out the tastings. She described each one before giving us some alone time to try everything, which was fine by me, I'd prefer not to have someone sitting there while I eat/critique their cake. She came by several times to see how we were doing and when we were finished, she was very helpful in assisting us with choosing our cake design and decorations. I did have a cake design printed out to show her what I wanted, which helped her to visualize it and assist us in making the changes we wanted to make. All in all, I felt like it was a good experience. The cake itself was a little dry on it's own but was fine with the fillings. Their fillings were delicious! I have used Creative Cakes for numerous occasions, including my wedding. Today, I called to inquire about a change to my order and I know they have not started it yet because it is such a small cake (I have made changes in less time in the past that were up-charges, so obviously they worked to make it work). I am assuming that because my change is not an up-charge is the reason the person on the phone didn't give me the usual response of "let me ask and see what they can do." She simply said no, no changes. I used to go more out of my way to order cakes here because they are good cakes, consistent flavor and very good artwork, and they always had good customer service in the past. With their price point on the higher side, considering the limited flavor offerings, I don't know if I will order more cakes here in the future. Called with a last minute request for a gender reveal cake. I had been turned down by multiple establishments in LA and OC before calling Creative Cakes. They were SUPER helpful over the phone and worked with my pregnant family member to orchestrate the surprise reveal. Pricing was very reasonable with lots of different flavors and fillings to choose from. They put together a whimsical and very cute design that wasn't too "cutesy" and looked elegant. The best part?? We ordered a cake a year ago for our wedding...I didn't think much about it falling apart at the time, until I read a lot of similar reviews. Maybe the weather was an issue because the cake sat out for a few minutes before we cut it-whatever. No big deal. When we went to pick up our one year anniversary cake yesterday my wife decided to call to make sure it was ready. She was placed on hold-or technically the phone was put down as the employee helped a customer in store-and then the phone was never picked back up. We literally drove 18 minutes to the store and as we walked in the phone was finally hung up...not even answered! Someone eventually came out and handed us our cake. At least it was ready. Or so we thought. The next day when we cut into our cake it was completely wrong (and falling apart as well). We ordered a lemon cake and got some chocolate marble cake. Lemon cake is pretty much the only cake I even like, so this was a disappointment. Needless to say it caused a huge riff in our marriage. For some reason it seems like we make our order & then when the cake is dropped off, it's nothing like we talked about. For example, my wedding cake had no diamonds like we discussed, they don't do real flowers on cakes, which was difficult, they also didn't do the design exactly like the cake displayed in the front of their store and the cake had no Oreos inside like requested. My family has ordered cakes from Creative Cakes for quite sometime. I am sad to report that my wedding cake was the only disappointment of my wedding day. Of my 3 layers, 2 had the incorrect filling 1 layer was supposed to have strawberry cream and fresh strawberries, but instead had only strawberry cream and the other layer was supposed to be marble with chocolate mousse and instead was white cake with banana mousse. This establishment used to be terrific at creating cakes and treating customers with high regard and respect. They used to strive for a 100% satisfaction rating. A new owner has taken over the business, and it is on it's way downhill. The service inside the store is cold and unprofessional. You'd think by spending $250-500 on a small cake they would treat you kindly and act like they want your business. Well, that is not the case. The new owner and their staff are not customer oriented, and unfortunately, they do not care about upholding the reputation that this business once had. Just got home from picking up a 50th Birthday Cake. Custom ordered over a month ago. Two-tiered, both square, black and white - NOTHING FANCY. We had the lady write out our order when we were there - drew a picture and everything - exactly how we wanted it. We called yesterday to make sure it would be ready to be picked up today, they said it was already ready. We called again this morning just to be sure, and they say it won't be ready until at least 2pm. Okay, no problem. We go to pick it up, and it's immediately and obviously wrong. The bottom tier was supposed to be a Bottom diamond pattern(which it said in plain English on the order form) and it had no black, but a QUILTED(aka let's run a cutter on the cake) pattern. This quilted pattern didn't even go all around the tier, just on the sides, not the top. Mind you, the quilted pattern was on the buttercream(what? You can't do quilted patterns on buttercream, only on fondant.) and the buttercream was cracking on the top of the tier. We tell them that it is wrong, and pretty, but NOT at all what we ordered. We continually said we were really disappointed, and for spending $320 on a SPECIALTY cake, we expected it to be perfect(or at least what we asked for). They mumble sorry, offer to put black, but that it would "look weird", offer to put roses on the sides(Uh, it's a modern style cake, roses?), say it still looks pretty, and go get our order form. There is, MAGICALLY, in parenthesis, "(quilted)" written next to "Black Diamond Design" on the order form. The woman(not older, younger brunette) says it isn't her writing, and she was the one to take our order. The older woman says she's sorry again, we repeat we are really disappointed, but the party is tonight and we cannot wait. She brings the cake out to the car and says, "We will give you a discount on your next cake." ....LIKE I'LL BE BUYING ANOTHER ONE WHEN YOU CAN'T EVEN GET THE SIMPLEST, LACKLUSTER CAKE RIGHT. It seemed as if they were ushering us out of there as fast as possible as not to let other customers hear our complaints. We get back home, pull out our copy of the receipt (on transfer paper), and there IS NO "(quilted)" on our copy. Someone wrote that in post-order. We call, again say that the cake is not right, and actually even more wrong than we thought, and that someone had written in the "(quilted)" part. They apologize. Cheryl gets on the phone, continues to apologize. The number on the top has been smashed and is visible pressed together to try and hold it's shape - it's actually a different color completely, probably repainted. All she did was apologize. Blame the person who took the order, and "well...". We are so disappointed - so, so disappointed. We actually have a baker in the family, and he says that he is SHOCKED that they didn't refund a portion of the payment, and that it seemed that they did it last-minute. We obviously haven't opened the cake up, but I wouldn't be shocked to find the inside wasn't what we ordered. The customer service here is DESPICABLE. I am seriously disgusted, after hearing rave reviews of the beautiful cakes. I cannot believe the audacity of the owner/manager/whoever to not offer a partial refund when it looks nothing like what we ordered/drew out. Overall, I will NEVER recommend or go back to Creative Cakes. I cannot imagine ordering a wedding cake and having it come back anything less than what I ordered. Customer service? Worse than lacking. Funny, how the bottom of the receipt says "No Changes", since you made changes on our cake after we ordered it. If at anytime the description became unclear - especially for a $300+ cake - I would have expected a phone call asking the question that needed to be answered instead of defaulting to the easier - no doubt cheaper - design. ABSOLUTELY, UNDENIABLY DISAPPOINTED. Update: Just stumbled upon this review and noticed that the owner responded to all bad reviews recently, and never responded to mine. Laughable. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!! I wrote a review on Rockwell 2 years ago and do not see it posted! I was so disappointed with this place that I have to write another one! My wedding venue listed Rockwell as their only cake vendor so I had no choice but to go with them. When we first went for the tasting, they had no clue we were scheduled to come in and made us feel very rushed to make a decision on the flavors, design, etc when our wedding was still 2 months away. As the wedding approached, they never contacted me to confirm the choices we had already felt rushed to decide on. Then when I sent pictures and emails detailing the cake, they never told me they couldn't make the design I wanted. I don't know where they come off changing their name to include 'Creative Cakes' because they cannot do anything creative. The lady I worked with was extremely rude, not helpful, and seemed like she was unhappy with her job. Her response at one point was 'Do you know how many brides I work with?' In the end, the cake tasted okay but I was completely dissatisfied with the design - my cake looked lopsided. The worst part about this experience is that I am in the wedding business and used to have Rockwell listed as a vendor - NO MORE, they have been removed from our list and I have spread the word... read more

Here's an update to my update: Okay, the wedding happen (11-01-2008) and the cake was awesome-except for three things. Point 1: (And some other married peeps can back this up) Not everyone is going to eat cake. We had 260 people show up, and we ordered a 4-tiered cake, plus a sheet cake at the bakery's advice and only the sheet cake and the last (lower) tier were served. Of our 260 guests, a handful left after dinner and more than half of our guests didn't like cake. The bakery recommended ordering for 25% less, but I insist that you order for only 50% of your guests and save the cash. Point 2: We ordered different flavors for each tier. We were supposed to be cutting into a red velvet cake, but instead we cut into lemon cake. The order was wrong, yet again. We were whispering through our teeth while cutting the cake and smiling, trying to hold back the questionable looks on our faces. If you decide to go with them for your cake, make sure you get a clean, clear invoice indicating your order. Not one like ours that was marked up 10 different ways. We verified the order 3 days before and it was still wrong. Point 3: And this may have been partially the flower shop next door's fault. There is a display cake very similar to our cake except with white chocolate curls. We wanted the same cake and the same floral arrangement-only with roses. Instead we get roses sticking to the side of the cake in a odd zig-zag order going down one side of the cake. Again, everyone thought it was beautiful, but my husband and I knew it was wrong. The bakery made a delicious cake that we enjoyed the days following the wedding. But it was not the cake I had hoped for our wedding. A disappointment, especially since we both had such great customer service in leading up to the wedding. And we must give them kudos for having them place the cake toppers on the cake for us. We ordered a small cake last month and overall the ordering experience was easy, pick up was smooth and the design of the cake was exactly what we had asked for- it was the centerpiece of our dessert table and we were highly complemented on it. The reason I unfortunately feel like I can only give only 3 stars is because technically half the order was wrong. We had a two tier cake, each tier with different flavors of icing/ cake. One of the layers was supposed to be a lemon cake with Bavarian icing and raspberry jam, however when it came time to cut the cake during our event, there was no raspberry jam. The cake itself tasted fine, but for the price point and the fact that it was such a small order, we expected it to be correct. Unfortunately the cake is iced upon pick up so there was no way to check, but this has been a lesson to me to triple check everything in the future. We tried several other bakeries and Rockwell's had the best flavor. I enjoy baking and I felt that all the other cakes we sampled, I could have made myself, or done better myself. I had my own florist decorate the cake with fresh flowers and it was beautiful. I didn't have any delivery or service problems, I'm actually surprised to read other people's reviews.
