Prior to the wedding, they set up a cake testing time with us and let us try all of their cake + frosting/filling samples. They were able to do 4 different combinations for us (A single cake for cutting, + 3 additional flavor combinations for mini-cupcakes for our guests to have!). The cupcakes are definitely where it's at here. With it's pink exterior beaming in a sea of Fullerton buildings, Patty's Cakes and Desserts stands out basically beaconing you in. It's a cute shop with a little parking lot that gets filled quickly behind it or street spots up for grabs. Inside are some seats if you want to eat your goods there but it seemed like most people grabbed & left. We were warmly greeted, ordered then waited as our cupcakes were hand frosted! Yep, they frost the cupcakes here as ordered so it'll always be a couple minutes for your goodies. It's a quick process though then you're out the door! Prices were completely reasonable. I tried a few different things at the bakery like the Chocolate Chip Cookie (pretty good), the Chocolate Chip Cake Ball (excellent) and the Brownie (disappointedly dry) but as previously mentioned, the cupcakes are what's truly fire here. The cake is so incredibly moist in their cupcakes - it's jaw dropping! The frosting is sweet & sugary but not over-the-top. The two parts together marry in pastry heaven making for a really delicious cupcake. The Chocolate Caramel Salty Cupcake was indulgently perfect. We didn't go crazy on the cake design and went with a pretty simple three layer cake. There are so many different combinations of wedding cakes available at Patty's Cakes. We enjoyed the cake tasting where they prepared various cupcake bases, flavors, and frostings for us to mix and match. We ended up going with a three layer cake with the following combinations: vanilla cake with guava and strawberry oreo, strawberry cake with strawberry mousse and strawberry oreo, and vanilla cake with custard and strawberry oreo. I went here a few months ago on a Saturday to get some details on ordering a specific birthday cake profile. At the time, I went around 11 AM on a Saturday and it was insanely packed. Once I spoke with the staff, they gave me the details, but advised me to go online to put in the order. The next day, I went ahead and placed the order through their website. It was straightforward enough for ordering and inputting all the details. There was a confirmation email on the order with pick date/time quickly received afterwards. This order was placed nearly a month early. For pick-up day, I missed the pick-up window, and picked it up closer to their store closure time. I checked in with the staff and he was able to give me the cake right away. The box was taped a certain way and advised by the staff to leave it slightly opened to ensure the cake doesn't get ruined in transit. I'd recommend having someone in the car or having something to hold the cake box firmly so it doesn't get pushed around during driving. The presentation of the cake was exactly what I wanted - white base and light blue frosting around the edges. The cake also got really great comments on the taste, which was still consistent with the initial experience of it. For taste profile, I'd recommend the brown butter pecan cake (no pecan) with apple filling and vanilla mousse frosting! read more

It was our first time trying a cake here and my family thought it was delicious. The only reason this isn't 5 stars is 2 small areas for improvement- the cake was well placed on the little round board but unfortunately the board was not well secured in the box, causing a dent. Luckily, we had no writing on the cake so we could just turn that part to the back. And the second area for improvement is that we thought the strawberries and custard filling would have more real large pieces of cut strawberry. Rude and unhelpful customer service, whatever happened to fast and convenient? Wanted to order a cake for my gender reveal/ birthday party. I emailed a few weeks before the date and I was told I could place the order at least 2-3 days before I needed it. 4 days before my event I decided to stop by because it should be easier and faster to order a cake than placing it online, right? Wrong! The guy there was less than helpful. He insisted I had to order online and he showed me on a computer in store. Ok, I'll place it on the store computer. Nope! Apparently that computer didn't have a key board. He assured me if I placed my INQUIRY, not order, INQUIRY online I should be able to pick up said cake this Saturday. I take out my phone and put my info in to have them contact me. The following message was that they would contact me 2-3 business days later. Ok? Not helpful. Instead I pick a semi custom cake, choose my decoration and it has a little message underneath saying the soonest pick up day is Saturday. Perfect! Place the cake on my cart and try to check out. It prompts me to choose my pick up day... next available TUESDAY OF THE NEXT WEEK. Ugh, this was all a gigantic waste of time. From me driving to the store to place said cake, from waisting almost 30 mins trying to place an order online to just go in circles. I have been here before, but I continue to see this place get raving reviews and thought maybe I was being too harsh. This place is just not for me. When looking at the options they call their "frosting" "mousse." I would not call what they use none of those things. The mousse did not have enough flavor for me. I could see maybe their mousse being used for a strawberry shortcake, because it basically tastes like whipped cream. While I did not like the mousse, the bread of the cake was decent tasting and very soft. I think their ideas on the fillings are creative. Also, the employee was very sweet and the place as a whole was pleasant and welcoming. So just having a nicer employee than the former owner was a step up. We've been to Patty's on a few different occasions, but this review is explicitly for their wedding services. We got married back in April and decided to go with Patty's since they were familiar with our venue, their cupcakes are delicious, and they offer flavors that we found to be unique. We went in with an idea of what we wanted and ultimately decided on that, despite there being runner ups. We ordered a white cake with bavarian creme and mango filling. We wanted it to not be very sweet, so we ditched the frosting on the outside to go with more of a rustic look and our florist would dress it up for us. We also took them up on some of their decor, which was a sweet little water fountain. The cake was the best wedding cake we've ever had and that sentiment was echoed by everyone that had tried it. We had 230 guests and ordered for about 240 which meant, we got about 2 days of leftovers that we were not mad about whatsoever.
