What a lovely little place to catch a show in the Little City! I took my family to see a production of "Madeline's Christmas" and we all had a great time. This annual holiday production's is 95% children-led and we were all awestruck by all the talent show. The 65 minute production was just the right amount of time to keep everyone engaged and the small theatre meant there was not a bad seat in the house. The show used a mix of fun props to tell the story and the script was written in a way that would please even the most die-hard Madeline fan. Parking was easy-peasy (it shares a garage with Whole Foods) and we were able to purchase tickets in advance through their online portal (highly recommend, our show was completely sold out!). They offer several classes and camps throughout the year which I'm already looking at for my eldest daughter. read more

I took my two daughters to see the princess and the goblins they both enjoyed the show, it's a very small theatre, so there really isn't a bad seat in the house, staff are helpful, welcoming and accommodating there's a parking garage within walking distance, with plenty of free parking. They even had a question and answer session for the kids at the end which was really thoughtful. We will definitely be back to check out some more shows. read more

Creative Cauldron - The princess and the goblins - Performing Arts Near Me - Falls Church, Virginia

In a city full of conformist government bureaucrats or technocrati who are largely left-brained-ruled, it's hard to find locally-grown art, music, dance, and bohemian culture. Enter Creative Cauldron into the culturally-emaciated landscape of Washington DC . How terrific to find this living-room sized, arena stage. The performance space here is intimate, the atmosphere eclectic, and the walls, covered in creations of local artists. The theater is located in a colorless, modern edifice on a backstreet in Falls Church. It's just a block from Pizzeria Orso. The entry lobby has a small bar serving wine/beer. The inner chamber is the theater, with a full set of lights and good acoustic capabilities. (After theater performances Pizzeria Orso is closed, so you have to back to pubs at Broad Street.) The show I saw, of Kamel Zennia and Band (an Algerian folk/rock band) was delightful and allowed space for a bit of dancing in the front of the stage. The audience seats maybe 60 to 70 max? I am reminded of performance-spaces I have been to in the great arts-culture city, Minneapolis, where local talent is showcased to appreciative local audiences. They have a ticket booth on site, but most shows have online ticket sales. I can't wait to go back! read more

Creative Cauldron - Great space for local Algerian folk rock band with space for dancing too - Performing Arts Near Me - Falls Church, Virginia

I went for the first time to see Thunder Knocking on your Door, a bluesy musical with music written by blues legend Keb Mo. The setting is very intimate which really brings the performances to life. It seats roughly 80 people. The performances themselves for this show were fantastic. Often local theater can be hit or miss in its quality but I was pleasantly surprised that it felt equal in quality to something you may pay double to see at Arena Stage in the city. They curate their talent very well. It is nice to have a venue in my local area that has reasonable prices. My tickets were 32 each for the center section. I will definitely be checking out future shows there. read more

Creative Cauldron http://www.creativecauldron.org/ is truly a local gem, having performances, often with live music, and cast featuring professional actors as well as local elementary to high school students. Every single performance we've seen with our family and friends (ages 5 - 85) has been entertaining as well as thought provoking. The ArtSpace where Creative Cauldron performs also features an art gallery. The space is intimate, and one feels very close to the stage, and there is often a Q & A period afterwards where one can learn more about the production, meet and chat with the cast. The free parking is also great. Five for the quality of the performances and convenient parking. One for the arcane yellow ticket requirement. Arrived half an hour early. Waited In lobby for an eternity. When finally allowed to enter we were happy to be near the front of the line. Alas, we were not aware that our failure to obtain a yellow ticket from the box office IN ADDITION TO the ticket we paid for and printed from home would require us to get out of line, procure the precious yellow ticket and then enter the theatre AFTER everyone who arrived after us. Opening the theatre earlier would allow patrons with just the print at home ticket to get the precious yellow ticket without losing the benefit of arriving early for general admission. Better yet, honoring the ticket a patron has in hand would be marvelous. read more

This fabulous little theater in Falls Church is a real charmer. The productions are very well done for community theater, and I love how they do so many plays productions featuring local children. Tickets do sell out (it's a tiny venue) so reserve them online. read more

Just enjoyed THE BEST performance of a children's classic (Charlotte's Web) at Creative Cauldron!! I have to admit I had serious doubts when I walked into the tiny, simple theater. But when the lights came on and the singers let their voices ring out I was truly AMAZED. A young cast performing without a hitch showing off talent just as good as the adult actors. Went to the Nevermore show about Poe and was blown away!! The venue is super small/intimate. Performance was A+ from acting to costumes to singing to instrumentals... could feel the passion and excitement! Very talented professionals. Can't wait to go back, but can't imagine a show topping Nevermore - Well done!! read more

Recently saw the Wizard of Oz here -- first the acting was amazing. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars was because it was sooo long. 2 1/2 hours plus intermission. We all got ants in our pants from sitting so long. The first 90 minutes was riveting. After the intermission we kind of expected it to be over in 30-45 mins rather than 1 hr 15 mins. Just a bit too long sitting-wise for kids (and adults)! But a great hidden gem. Next time I'll call and see how long the show is. read more

We have been to numerous performances over the past two years and have never been disappointed. This is community theater at its best! Our most recent experience, "A Christmas Carol Memory" was a wonderful treat for the holiday season. We are looking forward to attending more great performances. We would also like to publicly commend the Cauldron for their help and concern after my husband suffered a medical emergency at the theater last week. The Cauldron staff and cast members rushed to his aid, promptly calling the EMS and following up on his condition later in the week. We are most grateful and touched by their kindness. My daughter has been to several camps in the area, and went to Creative Cauldron's camp for the first time this past summer. Her counselor was wonderful with the kids and you could tell that she really enjoyed working with kids and theatre. The final performance was really well done and very enjoyable. I was not very impressed with the way the camp was run though. After paying tuition, we never received any confirmation or any information about what to expect from the camp. The owner/administration seemed to have real chips on their shoulders, particularly if you asked them questions about the curriculum or any policy; they were very defensive. I noticed that anyone could just walk off the street and pick a kid up. No regulation there whatsoever. And finally, they took the opportunity during the final performance to bash parents who asked simple questions! Wow, not very professional at all. I will not be sending my child there again. read more

Wonderful venue. Hidden gem. No bad seats in the house. Art gallery in front, drinks (wine, beer, soda) and small snacks (e.g., M&Ms) available before the performance and at intermission and you CAN bring them into the theater. We saw Thunder Knocking on the Door (playing through May 26) - a terrific performance that deserves an far bigger audience. Wonderful singing - great acting. Creative set. You might think being only 4 - 20 feet from the performers you'd feel too close but I was swept away or rather swept right into it. (For guitar solo's at the first scene, we'd recommend one tweak - they should put a speaker up front or under a front row seat so that it feels more like the actors are playing)-- once you are enthralled you don't notice. read more

Saw "Emperor's New Clothes" last weekend -- this is one of the Learning Theater productions showcasing student actors alongside professionals. It is a delightful original production with original songs, too. The story has a lot of humor for adults and will also entertain kids. Show is only about an hour. The theater is very small so you're always close (no more than 8 feet) to the actors and the action. Great way to introduce young people to live theater. Creative Cauldron also has professional, adult live theater productions which are top quality; frequently Helen Hayes Award-recommended. My wife and I and our grandson recently saw Creative Cauldron's "Wizard of Oz" and loved it. The sets and choreography and stage direction were delightful and transported us fully to another world -- both Kansas and Oz. The principal performers were very talented (we had seen one in Signature's "Titanic" (Glinda, the Good Witch) and another is scheduled to perform in the Signature's "A Little Night Music" (the Scarecrow) later this summer). Even more impressive, perhaps, were the performances of the youngsters -- as Munchkins, the Chorus, and the Wicked Witches' guards, among other roles. They were delightful -- poised and confident and relaxed and obviously having great fun. Their training (I assume as part of the performing arts school at Creative Cauldron) quite obviously focused on discipline and voice and dance -- but a love for the theater shone through. It speaks very well for both their professional training, and the caliber and character of their teachers. It's absolutely marvelous to have a local stage of such quality and we will be repeat customers for years to come. read more

Found this gem after my husband and I stumbled upon this theater one evening whilst out for dinner. Our daughter has taken part of the last 4 learning theater shows. This learning theater is unique in the fact that lines aren't thrusted at the children to memorize. Learning the parts are done in the most natural way as possible. What you will find is a family of girls who call this their second home. I am in complete disagreement with Maria. In no way do I feel as if my daughter isn't safe. She runs into practice on her own however I do go inside to pick her up as they dont just allow the kids to leave on theif own. I trust that my daughter is smart enough not to go home with a stranger. This is not a typical drop off venue. Here you will find the most authentic theater culture you can find for children. Everyone works hard, even though my daughter is exhausted at the end of the 16 show run, she finds CC to be an extension of her family, that she loves. read more
