I have learned that it's best to call two weeks out as it can take more than one fitting to get your costume right. I attempted to use this business for a costume event my son had. First, I made several attempts to reach the business only to be left with voicemail and unreturned calls. When i finally reached the 'lady' owner, she was beyond rude and argumentative, over the phone no less? She refused to send pics or be at all accommodating, in fact, it seemed like I was working to get her business. Denise outfitted my son in a stylish tuxedo for homecoming. She had so many tuxedos to chose from as well as accessories. She made the whole experience fun! Her passion for costumes is infectious making me want to come back to select a costume for me! The owner of this shop is seriously hard to deal with. If you get her on the phone she will ask you to email her the specifics of what you want and refuses to answer your questions over the phone. I had to email her to find out if she had an XL Men's Leather Biker Jacket. She said she needed more information.... For a simple biker jacket she wanted my husband's height, weight and waist size. I replied with height and weight but didn't have his waist size and asked her if we could just stop in and have him try on jackets if she had any and she didn't even reply to my last email. I sent her another email two days before Halloween and she still never replied. I guess that waist size measurement was so important to her that she'd forgo making a sale. She might have nice costumes but she's a pain to do business with. I'll never try again. There is a better costume shop in Tacoma anyhow. read more

First off, THIS IS AN APPOINTMENT ONLY PLACE. If you come without an appointment, she will tell you to come back at another time. I went to her for a Halloween costume the day before and though she ended up helping me, I seriously could tell I was lucky. She has a terrific selection of costumes. The only but major gripe I have about Creative Costumes is the deposit before the price. I put down $125 for a deposit before knowing the cost of the rental. It is not at all inexpensive, but the selection has many rare and particular pieces that could be worth it for certain events. Additionally, she has the clothes altered to fit perfectly, which is another reason I recommend renting with her far in advance of your event. read more

I think the owner is talented with costumes, but the way she is operating this business I can't recommend it to anyone - unless you're looking for a way to kill a lot of time with extra visits and emails and text messages, all full of DRAMA - Despite contacting her 5 weeks in advance. I empathize with the owner who constantly complains of people not respecting her time or merchandise.. and I understand it's hard for brick and mortar places to compete these days. So my suggestion for the owner is to stop mucking around and charge an hourly rate for consultation - whether or not folks actually rent from her! Make firm appointments - 30 minutes or so... Then the folks that are serious will receive (and pay for) good service and those that are not will stop wasting your time - which aggravates everyone. Good luck. read more

This is a positively GREAT costume shop that I am definitely going back to! I went to check it out upon learning that the store had Ben Nye makeup for sale, and quickly found that it had much more than just Ben Nye. It has an enormous selection of anything one could even think to need--costumes to theater makeup to hats to wigs, etc. The owner was able to quickly help me found what I was looking for, and was very friendly, passionate, and knowledgeable about what she does. She even gave me a tour when I expressed interest in one, and I was beyond impressed with the selection and quality of her products. Several key things about my first experience here. 1.) I called several times during normal business hours and never got an answer. The answering machine is full so you can't leave a message. 2.) I went there on Friday the 7th of July with my 4 year old son. I walked in and there was nobody at the front. I waited for an unnaturally long time and finally asked a costumer that was waiting as well where she was and he said "back there". There are no signs or anything so I guessed there may be shelves of product or aisles behind the counter and walked back there. The owner came out and yelled at us to get out. Not really the way to handle any stranger let alone a potential source of revenue. So we did and she followed us up front the whole way very rudely restating that we shouldn't be there, to get out, exc. When we got by the counter she said "and who are you?!" I responded kindly with my name, she then in another condescending tone asked "ok...and what do you want?!" Then my 4 year old boy asked me "dad, why is she being mean to you?". With that she explained she isn't a store and that she goes on appointment only, where I replied I've tried calling many times, she cut me off. "They have a wedding tomorrow,(the other customer) just email me What you want and when do you need it and tried to hand me a business card. I plainly said "no need, we won't be going with you" and explained to my son that you can't control mean people, you can only control your reaction to them as we left. I can't imagine ever using this place for anything whatsoever. Good thing it's the age of the internet and I can go with many other options. Being a passionate artist and SFX costume designer (beginner) this was really a sad first impression because I was really excited to meet a veteran in person. If I could give this business no stars I would feel that it would be more appropriate. First, the owner, Denise is a thief! She charged me for my rental plus deposit! I returned the unused costume and she was supposed to give me the copy of my credit card and instead she "forgot" and then about a week later charged me. I called her and she said it was done out of error and she would fix it. Nope! On top of that, her customer service skills are seriously LACKING to say the least. I went into her shop and was rudely, rudely "greeted" by her. She kept talking about crazy customers "lying" about her, at the time I felt sorry for her but now I know she is actually the LIAR! For someone who has a business and would actually like to make money, she makes you feel like you're such a burden for asking questions about her items. I tell everyone I know NEVER go to her! Returned our costumes Sunday morning the 30th of October. Once again we entered into a very busy Denise Keegan, who was steaming costumes, and assisting two or three different customers with their costume selections. We recognized this is a very busy time for Denise, and quite frankly, she does amazingly well providing services to her customers. After a short wait, Denise received our costumes, and we were on our way. Our overall experience with Creative Costumes and Rental was satisfying and enjoyable. We will return to this place to get costumes in the future. She has just about anything you can think of. Denise is a wonderful person with a warm heart.
