Keri was able to color correct my hair and now I get compliments ALL the time on my blonde. Keri made the color fit to my skin tone... not just doing a standard blonde color across the board. I have an ashy skin tone, so my blonde is now more ashy rather than yellow and it has made ALL the difference. And the color is DIMENSIONAL. I love it. Psyched to be the 1st Reviewer! Keri is amazing with hair! I knew how talented she was from friends that had been going to her Salon in Lubbock. I was thrilled to hear she had moved to Austin and got my 1st appointment Dec 2010. Let's just say...my hair situation is bad. Long curly hair and A LOT of it. I am not a high maintenance gal. Usually wash my hair and throw in a bun so I don't have to deal with it. I explained all of this during our 1st appointment (I think she got the idea with one look at my hair:). I didn't want a hair cut that was complicated and only looked good when I walked out of the Salon. Too many times I have gotten home, washed the hair to realize I have a bigger problem - not enough time to make it look good everyday. Keri cut a great deal off, but it still looked long. She added layers (i was very leery of this), but found that my hair looked much better and I was able to let it air dry and look nice. I immediately set up another appointment for Highlights. She did the BEST job ever on my highlights. Keri understood that I wouldn't be in the Salon every 6 weeks for maintenance (more like every 4-6 months). She put in highlights with low lights so when it grew out the roots wouldn't be shameful. They looked great. So, what to say about Keri, and the amazing work of art she has created with my hair. Let me paint a picture for you. Imagine a poor girl who went to get her hair colored in October and wound up with so overly processed hair that she was literally missing large chunks from key spots on her head. That would be me. My hair is so badly damaged, that there are quite a few spots that it's only an inch long. In random, unfortunate places. Enter Keri and her amazing visual abilities. I've had quite a few stylists tell me that hair extensions aren't an option until my hair grows out (which, at this rate, may take a few years...). Keri thought differently, and I couldn't be happier with the results. I kid you not--I went from looking like some crazy person had gone at my head with dull scissors to looking like I did 5 or 10 years ago--from looking like a dowdy mom to looking like a mid 20 something cutie. Seriously--I look amazing. I look like a different person. My kids think I look like a pop star, and my husband thinks I look hot. Need I say more?? I will, even though that should be enough for you to get this done for yourself. Keri uses the brand Hot Heads, which is a tape based extension. Once they go in, you can hardly see the tape at the root of your hair. They stay in for about 10 weeks, and you can reuse the hair up to 4 times. They're also fast to go in (it took her about an hour and a half to transform me), and they are a FRACTION of the price that you'll find at a lot of other salons. Perhaps it's the lack of time involved? I"m not sure. I do know that I spent about 50% less than what I had been told it would cost other places (that its, if my hair decided to grow, which it doesn't). Keri herself is fantastic. She's all about making sure that your hair revolution will fit your life style, and that you know what you're doing with it. She does a follow up appointment about a week later, so you have time decide what you would like to tweak, if anything. In short, Keri is a miracle worker. She is fantastically talented, and knows what the hell she's doing. If you're even maybe sort of considering the possibility of extensions, you have got to go in and see her. I wanted to give an update since I first got extensions last summer. I am on my 2nd "set" and I couldn't be happier! I was nervous the extensions were doing some damage because I have fine and fragile hair, but the extensions have not done any damage. Keri does amazing haircuts! I've been to several different places to get my hair cut in Austin, and none of them have come close to Keri. She listened to what I wanted and got the exact look I was going for. It is difficult to find someone who can do that. First off I just moved here from Southern California and had to leave behind a fantastic hairdresser. After reading countless yelp and google reviews, I contacted Keri and a couple of other stylists that seemed promising. I was interested in getting extensions to fix the fact that I butchered my long hair into one of those swing bobs that was trendy a few years ago and I was getting quotes around town for 1-2 thousand dollars. No thanks. Anyway, despite the fact that she offers a free consultation for extensions, I had some questions that I wanted answered before I blew an hour of my time driving to a salon if I knew it wasn't going to work out. She was the only one out of three that bothered to answer my questions in an email. She scheduled me for a consult promptly and when I had to break it the day before, she rescheduled me without making me feel like a tool. The actual consultation went really well. One of her earlier clients was kind enough to let me watch the tail end of her extension application and I got to see the before picture (color and extensions were AMAZING - so amazing that I ended up getting the same colors for myself) Anyway Keri was honest and upfront with me about the cost and the limitations of extensions. I felt very comfortable with her - she has a great personality and the other staff at the salon were probably wondering why I was laughing so much. Her prices were much more reasonable than previous quotes and she had great before/after pictures so I felt like I knew exactly what I was getting into. I paid my deposit the same day and she could tell I was nervous so she told me to sleep on it and let her know if I just couldn't go through with it the next day before she ordered the hair. I'm so glad I didn't cancel. My hair came and I had it applied a week after my initial consult. She had to do quite a bit of coloring and adding in lowlights to get my hair to match the extensions but we had already discussed that. The end result was absolutely magical. My hair is long and full and (dare I say?) sexy but it looks totally natural. The color is gorgeous and the blended cut looks perfect. My husband loves it and he's normally the kind of guy that doesn't pay attention to hair and makeup. If you are in the market for a new stylist I can tell you for sure that Keri is a miracle worker when it comes to color and cuts (fixing mutilated hair) and her extensions rival anything I saw in California. Where to begin!! I have had thin, fair hair my whole life. I decided to try to make it grow and become as healthy as it gets - which resulted in me not coloring my bleached hair for about 8 months and not cutting it for another 4 months. I went into Kari ready to spend my paycheck on tape-in extensions and finally accept that fact that my natural hair was not going to cut it for the look I wanted. During the consultation, I explained to Kari what I wanted and she convinced me to make my hair into a long bob... the most drastic decision I could make!! I've always had longer-than-shoulder-length blonde hair, but I'll be honest - it's just not in my DNA to grow amazingly healthy, beautifully long hair. I'd work to grow it for a couple of months, but the ends always got stringy and thin. I finally decided to research hair extensions, and OMG has it been a "game changer" as Keri promised in our consultation. First of all, Keri is amazing. She knows what she's doing, and I trust her feedback and recommendations completely. The quality of the extensions is incredible. They're thick, soft & hold curl like you wouldn't believe. The color match is 100% to my natural hair, and you cannot tell (unless I tell you) that I have in hair extensions. People I see EVERY DAY (e.g. neighbors, friends, family) couldn't easily pin-point the change other than to tell me that my hair looks amazing and ask me what products I use. Going into the process, it felt like a pretty big splurge. Now that I have them, I view the expense like I do the other self-care expense like my gym membership, or for great skin care products. Keri is my new girl! Today was my first visit to Salon Sovay and Keri, and I am stoked. In the 2 1/2 years I have lived in Austin, I have been on what seems like an endless search for a stylist I can stick with. You see, I am a hair disaster. I never know what I really want and my vague instructions are something along the lines of "Not too long, but not too short. Color! Or maybe not?" I am a stylist's nightmare or dream of a client. Or not?"), she took the time to ask the questions a lot stylists have never asked me. What's your hair routine? What products do you use? Do you keep up with your color? Things of that nature, which seem common sense to ask, thinking about it now, but I can't remember anyone doing that before. She was trying to figure out my relationship with my hair so that she could give me the best cut/color. And she was excited that I was hair clueless and giving her creative control over my mane. That was awesome! I am used to seeing a look of panic cross stylists' faces when they have to be creative with me. I am SO happy I found Keri.
