I booked the "Haircut - Luxury Experience" for my first visit and showed Ruby Perez three reference photos. I clearly requested a slanted, vertical side cut with the front length touching my chin, and suggested trimming only about 1 cm. What I left with was a nightmare--my hair chopped drastically short, front above my jawline, sides straight, and nothing like the photos. When I pointed this out, she casually said it would "look like the pictures in 8 weeks." I was shocked and humiliated. During the haircut, she even told me twice not to cross my legs--something I've never experienced at any salon. I asked to switch stylists, and was told I'd have to pay extra, even though the issue was not my fault. Ruby then claimed that because I agreed to a graduation in the back--which she suggested--she had to ignore my other requests. I cried in my car on the way home, devastated. $160+tax for a ruined haircut and a traumatizing experience. I can only hope no one else has to go through this. After two good experiences with Jamie here I recently had a very negative experience I feel I should share. I had an appt scheduled with Jamie on 09/10. I received a call around noon saying she went home sick and asking to reschedule me with Zeke at the same time. I agreed since things happen. No worries. I arrive to my appt and find I was moved around to another stylist Ruby. Not a huge deal but odd. Ruby was nice and welcoming but did jot down a great job with the cut. It was very uneven (pictured). I left the salon with a curl so it took a day to notice it was uneven. I call back on 09/13 asking for an adjustment. Lisa tells me to come in 09/17 and my original stylist Jamie will fix it (over a week after my initial haircut). I show up and they have no record of my appt or conversation with Lisa. They tell me Jamie is unavailable and I can wait for another stylist or come back another day. I opt to wait. The stylist was nice but slightly gaslighted me into telling me my hair wasn't that bad. As a final straw the parking validation did not work and I had to spend $13 to get my hair fixed after the original haircut $75 + $15 tip. I will not be returning. read more

Ruiz Salon in the Seaholm area is both luxurious yet approachable. I visit Dalton for Color Work (coloring my grays) every few months. He's wonderful and always does a great job. Jason has cut my hair the last few times and I'm always so pleased with how it comes out. The shampooing experience is always amazing. They massage your head and have you breathe in a lovely scent. It's always a treat! Random tidbit but the bathrooms are also super nice. I enjoy washing my hands with their delicious rosemary hand wash. They do validate parking but I usually book on early Saturday mornings when street parking is free. It's so nice having a salon and team that you can count on. read more

I'm in town for a conference and most places were booked so this was the only one available. The haircut was I believe $95 which is absurd in the first place. I requested a light trim that doesn't look like a fresh cut, just a little clean up. I ended up with a pretty crappy cut that I had to fix myself the next morning. On top of that, I asked her to be mindful of my cowlick in the back because when it's cut incorrectly it can look like a bald spot. For some reason that spot is where she cut it the absolute shortest, so now I have a temporary bald spot for $120 including tip and a below average haircut. Abby was nice and the environment is as well. I'm here on a work trip and wanted to clean up for that, but now wish I just kept it long. Update: it's worse than I expected. Patchy parts on the side and back of head as well. I reached out very respectfully to the front desk to describe my experience, and they gave me a phone number to text the photos to (it is very obviously a terrible haircut). I checked in to see if they had received them, and was told the owner would be reaching out to me shortly. It's been about a week now and I've heard nothing. Not sure how this place has 4.5 stars especially with an owner such as this. It's really disrespectful. read more

Abby is just the absolute best. I trust her completely with my hair. The times I've worked with her I have brought in inspiration photos and raised the concerns I have over my hair and how it fits with the cut I'm looking for. She made sure to hear me out and gave me perfect cuts that didn't just look great when styled but also at home when I styled it myself. I will forever make sure to have her cut my hair because I have no question in my mind that she will take my hair and my inspiration photo and find a way to make it happen for me. This salon is within walking distance of where I live so as far as I'm concerned the location is great. They have a good selection of hair products and accessories for sale. Their staff have generally been friendly, especially Samantha, who always seems to be working when I buy hair products. I've had several haircuts here over the past few years. My regular stylist moved, so I had a haircut with ADAM and I will say I had the worst experience. The man is incredibly rude and pushy. ADAM told me multiple times (at least three) that he wanted to give me a different haircut than what I asked for. I had to politely disagree with him each time which made the atmosphere awkward. Adam is one of their more experienced stylists (which means more $$$) so I was surprised that he gave me a small towel after my hair was washed. The towel was hardly bigger than a washcloth and wasn't absorbent to enough to stop water from trickling down my chest and back. I'm a guy with shoulder length hair, so the smallish towel was surprising. He could have at least given me two towels. The thing that irritated me the most was ADAM'S superior attitude -- he actually told me "I'm the stylist so it's my job to give my opinion and say what I think is best." It was tough not to reply to that one. When I got home, I noticed he had also forgotten to trim the random hairs growing on the back of my neck (something every barber has done for me since my first "real" haircut at age 6). I filled out a survey that I was emailed the following day and complained. I got the standard "someone will contact you about your concerns" reply but I didn't get any kind of follow up from management. I think it's time I found a new salon and started buying hair products from another establishment. read more

From the minute I arrived at the salon I felt pampered. The staff showed me around the salon and immediately offered me a robe to change into and coffee or tea. My stylist Cameron, greeted me and took the time to look at my hair to see what I wanted before we did anything else. He listened and made suggestions based off of my hair type and face shape. Then he guided me to the wash room to get a shampoo and condition before cutting. I had the most relaxing scalp and neck massage with a hair treatment (only $15!) and my scalp immediately felt like it was coming back to life. The conversation with Cameron was everything you would want with your stylist. Even better the cut was everything and more! He cut exactly what we agreed on (he didn't go Edward scissor hands on the length‍) and styled it before I left. I am so happy I found my hairdresser in Austin! I'm so incredibly unhappy. I can't stop crying. I had my hair cut here by Jason last night and he did everything wrong. He cut off an extra four inches, he refused to trim my bangs, and he gave me no layers. I went in looking like a shaggy sheep dog with long pretty hair that needed a haircut and I left looking like a shaggy sheep dog with short mom hair that needs a haircut. I had the worst haircut experience from Steven Ray. He started off my insulting my current look - no style, my part looks like Avril Lavigne, it's so 90's, it's soooo much better now it has flow etc. Towards the end of the visit I was ready to get out of there. He asked at the beginning if his brushing was too hard to let him know and it was fine until the end when I felt like he just wanted to hurry up and get out of there. He was jerking my head around and left it with knots. When I brought it up he claimed " it was all brushed out..." ok I can feel the knots in my hair. I saw an ad on Facebook for a student who worked at this salon needing a model for a haircut. The only reason I allowed a student to cut my hair was because I thought this salon was good and they wouldn't let me leave unhappy. I normally go to Red Stella Salon, and love the person who normally cuts my hair. I was trying to save some money as I am a teacher, and thought I'd let the student cut my hair for a discounted price. The haircut itself was fine. I don't blame the student. The teacher was in and out and it didn't really end up looking like what we discussed. Unfortunately the cut did not look good on me and I felt I looked like I was wearing a helmet but thought maybe I could style it different at home, and after 3 hours just wanted to get out of there. When I got home I tried styling it, and it just did not look good. The cut was heavy at the bottom. I called the salon and just asked very nicely could someone add a few layers or thin it out a bit, I don't need it to be washed again or anything like that. Just make it look less helmet like. The lady on the phone was very nice, took my info, and said she or someone would call me back. Two days later still no return call so I went to Red Stella and had my stylist (who also use to teach hair cutting) went back and corrected the cut. Lesson learned, don't go to a student again, wasn't worth it as I had to pay for my stylist to recut my hair anyway, and just because a salon looks high end, doesn't always mean they have good customer service. They could have at least returned my phone call, the cut wasn't free, and the parking was 9$. read more

We called to book again with same stylist for 2nd hair cut for my son months later and they confirmed it was same stylist. Really liked this place! I got referred by my friend/was a first time visit and got $20 off my haircut. The whole experience was $35 for a shampoo, cut, and blowdry - they do not accept tips at all. They even do a nice hand massage and a make up touch up at the end which was awesome. Super friendly staff. Amy was really nice and did an awesome job on my hair. Was able to schedule an appointment on a Friday afternoon for Saturday morning. They try to sell you lots of products at the end but weren't too pushy about it. Also they will validate parking in the garage so you don't have to try and find a street spot. Will come back again - great referral program! read more

Outstanding Customer Service! Tuesday I had a color service completed by Katrina. Long story short I was attempting to go from brown and blonde to an ashy grey color. Well, after all, was done I did not like the end result. Granted I have a difficult hair texture and a really dark color that's hard to lift. At the end of my service, I made sure to let her know that the color was not what I had envisioned. Unfortunately, she was booked up for the rest of the evening, so I could not get the color corrected that very same night. However, Katrina made sure to rebook an appointment at a convenient time for me to come in on Thursday to have my color tailored to more of what I wanted. When I left the Manager personally texted me to apologize for the situation. Something that she really did not have to do, when I came back in Katrina stayed extra late and spent 3 hrs to get me closer to my Goal. The Team really went above and beyond to correct a mistake and accommodate me for a late appointment time. I've had a haircut with Adam twice and both times I've loved it! Overall the salon is very relaxing. They invite you to change into a robe if you'd like and they have various drink options like tea, coffee, and wine. The shampoo is s nice scalp massage, and they do a hand massage toward the end of your service. Adam is very detailed with his cut and he has a natural eye for figuring out what looks good. He's very comfortable to be around and he doesn't feel the need to fill the silence with small talk, which I personally love. He's enjoyable when we do talk, but for a lot of the cut we're both able to be comfortable in the silence of it. I always walk past this place on my way to the store and getting a haircut has been on my to do list so figured why not try it out. It looked very chic inside and usually can't go wrong with an Aveda salon. I have curly fine hair and have had trouble finding someone to cut it just right and style it. Amy was perfect! She kept my length but got rid of the ends that were no longer wanting to curl as well as touching up my long layers. I left with it styled similar to how I would with no friz. She's very down to earth, and we had an easy going chat the whole time. The salon is clean, staff very efficient and friendly. Getting your hair shampooed is like a mini spa treatment. No phones allowed in room, serene music, dark and great oils&shampoos used for your wash and head massage. Appointment is finished up with a hand massage. P.s. The hair wash was like a spa experience it felt so good and relaxing and they even use essential oils which made my troubles melt away (atleast for the moment hah). She gave me some layers and cut off all my dead ends and normally I hate getting my hair cut cause I'm never happy with the way it ends up but omg I LOVE IT! I dried it myself a few days later and it fell into this cool girl shag hairdo which I'm in love with and I just wish I had somewhere cool to go. Their attention to detail really sets them apart from other salons, such as the tranquil shampoo room (with relaxing scalp massage), warm neck towel, and the complimentary hand massage at the end of the service.
