Saw a fence on Main St. in EH that was exactly what I wanted…read more After a bit of digging I learned that it was built by EH Fence and Gate. (I discovered that just about every fence on Main St is theirs.) Called for an estimate and the owner, Michael, came by to discuss the project. Michael is personally involved in every job, with the goal being perfection. They're very busy (four week wait at least), but definitely worth waiting for. They sent over a very friendly, capable crew that did a great job installing the fence. From the first post to the final paint touch-up they were a pleasure to have at my home. They were also open to some tweaks as their worked progress (i.e., swapped black for brushed stainless hardware, changed closing latch). Some may feel that EHF&G is little pricey, but I think you get what you pay for - great design, sturdy materials and a quality product. I'm very happy.

First let me say, they are capable of doing excellent work. The problem is getting them to show up…read moreand do it. The man who runs the show, Michael, is unprofessional, unreliable and dishonest. He initially quotes a reasonable estimate for work. He then hems and haws about scheduling, repeatedly setting dates and then not showing up, not answering calls or responding to emails. IF he ever finishes the job -- a very big if, as he left our project half-done and wasn't heard from again for 3 months -- the invoice he eventually sends is more than twice the estimate he quoted. In our case, he double-billed us for materials that we purchased ourselves and had delivered, at his request. He tried to charge us for them again, but with a mark-up over the price we paid to the supplier. When you request a statement outlining costs and services, he whines about how his time is too valuable for him to spend documenting his statements, and that you just have to trust him that you owe the amount he says you owe. It's difficult to trust someone who told you on 4 different occasions he would come to finish the job and never showed up at all. Michael left us with a half-finished project we then had to contract with a more reliable company to complete. In the meantime, we just had to live with the mess.

I hired GODOY Driveway Company to redo the driveway at my small East Hampton cottage. Their…read moreportfolio looked beautiful, and although their price was extremely high (around $30,000), I decided to move forward hoping for quality work that would last. While the steel edging for the gravel area was done nicely, I was surprised to be charged an extra $1,200 just to sink the existing Belgian block to match the new ones. That should have been included in the original price -- it made no sense to leave half the driveway uneven. Communication was also very difficult. None of the workers spoke English, so I couldn't communicate simple requests, like asking them not to urinate in my bushes. They cut stone directly in front of my new gate, coating everything in dust and never hosed it off. At the end of the job, I requested a few stepping stones to connect the front steps -- a small addition. They charged another $2,700 for just a handful of stones that were roughly placed directly into the soil. When I pointed out the scratches and poor workmanship, the owner refused to come see it and dismissed my concerns, saying "they are natural stones." When I asked again for him to come inspect the work, he became aggressive and threatened me -- saying that if I kept complaining, he would destroy my house and "rip up my front yard to make a mud pond for my kids." His tone was violent and unprofessional. I felt unsafe and contacted the police to make a report. This has been the most unprofessional and upsetting experience I've ever had with a contractor. The owner is largely absent, overcharges for basic work, and becomes hostile when questioned. I strongly caution anyone considering GODOY Driveway Company. I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau to help protect other families from going through this.

We had a driveway made wider and included removing and reinstalling Belgian block and sprinkler lines. They also paved the entire existing driveway with 1 1/2 inch of compacted asphalt. This included making cutouts at 2 walkways and garage and apron to make the transition smooth. They were here when they said on time and right to work. All workers were professional and courteous. George was a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend this company.

Then, once they had our money, they postponed the job three different times, all at the last minute. We had to shuffle our vehicles around several times. The fourth time, two guys showed up, but instead of bringing heavy equipment, they brought hand shovels and pickaxes to do the work. The repair patch they installed is much smaller than what was promised on the written estimate, and it was poorly installed. It stands slightly above grade, and has already begun to fray and crack around the edges. We told the owner that we were very upset, but he simply told us: "That's all that we are willing to do". After some back and forth, we got them to reluctantly agree that we should not have to pay them the remaining balance (50%). Based on their unprofessionalism and poor workmanship, we would never use this company again or recommend them to anyone.
