This credit union upgraded there lobby, including adding a locked door so you have to have "permission" to enter. I am not a fan, especially the location is not a walk up facility and is on the interior of this building. Once allowed in, I waited in line for 20 minutes while only one cashier tried to service 2 "problem" accounts, prior to the 4 of us in line. Apparently, our original Credit Union, which was almost 30 years old, was sold to CU1. We had NO choice but to move our money to another institution. But we thought: Give them a chance. 6 months later, we are moving MOST of our money out of CU1. Website is horrid, chat is useless, good luck getting hold of a real person on the phone, etc.... If I could give less than one star, I would. I am absolutely heartbroken and disgusted with how this credit union -- and especially Nelma -- handled my mother's account after my father's passing. From the very beginning, we trusted Nelma to help us through this process with compassion and professionalism. Instead, she was unresponsive, dismissive, and incredibly rude. She never returned our calls, and when we called her, she acted as though we were bothering her for simply asking for updates. Every time we spoke with her, she assured us the check was being processed, but nothing ever happened. We submitted everything they required (not once, but TWICE) -- the death certificate, the small estate affidavit -- back in August. Nelma told me we had until the end of October before the funds would go to the Illinois unclaimed treasury. We took her at her word. But without any notice or courtesy call, they sent the funds to unclaimed status anyway! This entire experience has been beyond stressful and deeply disappointing. During one of the hardest times of our lives, we were met with indifference, lies, and a complete lack of compassion. No grieving family ( or CUSTOMER) should ever be treated this way! read more

My credit union was acquired by this monster. They charge you for withdrawing your money from free of charge atms. They charge 1.00 for not going to their lobby. What was a prior pleasant banking experience they have turned into a nightmare! STAY AWAY AND GO TO A REPUTABLE CREDIT UNION. Everytime you blink they charge you a fee. Went into branch because CU1s customer service number is HORRIBLE and they do not give you correct information or have any urgency to your issues. You call an 800 number and a virtual assistant Luna talks forever on choices you can't make until she stops talking and then you are in a black hole of speaking the magic word to get a person on the phone. Ridiculous. If you call the branch directly, you can't hold for next person, they transfer you into this black hold. Matter of fact, we have never been able to call the branch and speak to anyone. One positive thing is the branch was aware of an issue with our external transfer that affected all customers. The customer service was telling us that it was the transfer to banks issue and not there issue and I wasted 2 full days calling CU1 and the external bank going back and forth at least a 1/2 dozen times trying to find our LOST money (over $2000). Come to find out it was CU1s issue and not my external bank and they knew about this on Tuesday and did not contact affected customers, nor had any notification about it. It took me going into the branch which is an hour drive from our home. While we were there, my husband wanted to add me to the account so I could call on his behalf about these issues while he's at work. They had an issue with ID. So I asked if there was some way my husband can do this virtual, like fax a form or do on the website. The MANAGER told me no, we would need to come back. So we got home, signed into CU1 website, submitted a secure message asking about how he can add his wife to his account. They sent a form for him to complete and told him to send back through the secure messages. Boom, done...and, they never asked for any ID...however, we did attach my driver's license just in case they needed one and by error didn't ask. The same ID they refused to accept in the branch. I feel the manager was making it difficult for us, all around. Even the issue where our money we transferred is missing...BTW, still missing today. Now they have a recorded message when you call the customer service number about an issue with external transfers and they are working on it. Today is 8 days since we made the transfer and they are still working on it? Sounds like the "vendor" was hacked. This doesn't make sense. There is no urgency to this...meanwhile our bills that came through were returned and we incurred fees both from our external bank and our bill companies. Since we were not notified of this, we didn't know we might need to go to CU1 to withdrawal cash and go deposit into the external account. Their whole systems and methods are antiquated. read more

I got a new auto loan through credit union 1. The dealership finance department recommended it. Their correspondence has been terrible and I do not recommend them at all. No urgency to resolve issues. Treated me like a problem. I sent in the necessary auto insurance info that I understood I needed to send in. credit union1 did not accept that but failed to send me any correspondence until AFTER the added CPI to the loan and AFTER they increased my payment. I was shocked and had to wait on hold for 40 minutes to speak to someone who had transfer me to someone else who did almost nothing to help and continued to blame me. I will be looking to refinance if possible just to get out of business with this group. read more

I have been a CU1 for the last 10 years (2010). I recently made a purchase with a merchant (TTI Floorcare/Hoover) who overcharged me by nearly $335. I initiated a Dispute Inquiry and completed an Affidavit: Fraudulent Use of Card with CU1. Despite the fact that I furnished my invoice to CU1 and the merchant admitted to CU1 that they overcharged me, CU1 will do nothing because the merchant stated they would resolve the matter in "Either 10 days, or up to 4-6 weeks." So, a merchant can steal $335 from my CU1 account and CU1 will do nothing?? What is the purpose of disputing a charge then? A merchant can take my money, and create whatever time table they claim to resolve it with no recourse. I need to wait "up to 6 weeks" for a resolution before CU1 will do anything?! Absolutely worthless. Thanks to TTI Floorcare/Hoover for taking $335 from a single one-income parent over the holidays, and CU1 for doing nothing about it. /sarcasm read more

Got my first mortgage through Credit Union 1 with Kelly Contine. This was after my first lender fell through due to some HoA issues. I called Kelly out of the blue (no scheduled appointments). She assured me that CU1 could handle it and gave me steps and next steps. Over the next week, she confirmed that my lenders previous issue wouldn't be a problem with them and even got me a much lower rate. There was good communication cadence and if she was not available, she'd call me back. During the next week, I chatted with Kelly, her team, my agent for what I think is a typical loan process. ~20 days since i reached out, my loan was approved! I have been a member of Credit Union 1 for about 3 years. Some of their products and services are great, others not so great. Recently, they have offered to get your paychecks up to 2 days early if you have direct deposit. For the past few months, my DD has gone into my account on Thursdays (payday is Friday). Today is a different story. I called CU1 and was advised of the same song and dance. It was possibly my employer's fault that it's nice there. A LIE! I work for one of the biggest Health Care Facilities in the country and I have checked with them and the files are sent at the same time on Wednesday morning before Friday. Refinanced my vehicle through Credit Union 1 (from dealer financing) and the person handling the paperwork went on vacation and stated that someone else would be sending me forms to finish. I never received these forms and even reached out about it. I was met with they need these forms immediately "or they'd hate to repossess" my vehicle. Absolutely not! First off. I called in and was transferred 5 times. I had paid off a credit card beginning of July and I over paid so they refunded me money. Now in August I get a bill and called them to ask why I have a bill when I closed the account last month. They said it's for interest, although the invoice does not say that. The invoice states it's for balance transfer fee. I don't agree with th fee when they are holding my money. When I questioned why I'm being charged a fee for balance transfer, the customer service rep Andrea could only say that it was an interest fee and not a balance transfer fee. I will be closing my accounts and will not use Credit Union 1. They have too many fees that cannot be explained. read more

I really like the credit union itself, and I've had excellent service on my accounts for years. The staff is helpful and pleasant. Access to ATMs has improved over the years, and it helps that they are part of a network so you can use a lot of machines. Their app is also really nice now that you can deposit checks with your smartphone. The mortgage department is not very impressive. It took them over two months to close a very simple refinance. The lender kept getting confused over paperwork, lost some items, and was generally disorganized and frustrating. The closing was also frustrating, as the lender messed up some of our numbers and then added some fees that had not previously been mentioned. There were several surprises, and since we closed at the title company, there was no rep from the credit union available to fix their issues. While I love the credit union, I would not recommend their mortgage department at all. read more

I have been a member of CU1 Lombard for roughly two years. After my wallet was stolen, I went through one of the worst banking experiences I could imagine. Most of the money on my debit card was stolen before I realized it was missing, and after contacting my bank and reporting theft it took over three months for the money to be returned. After that I swore off traditional banking, and based on a recommendation from a friend, I opened a checking and savings account with CU1 in Lombard. I was thrilled with the security I was guaranteed and the sense of family I got when I entered the building. Shortly thereafter I purchased a home and worked with Robyn, and she was able to get me an incredible interest rate and a quick close, all while explaining everything multiple times to this first time home buyer ! A year later, my car died and it was time for a new one. I worked with Ben, and again, another great rate and attentive service. Overall, both Robyn and Ben worked, what felt like, tirelessly to make sure I was taken care of through the tough times, and the happy times.
