    Marshmallows, oh yes.

Fireside Mallow in 5: Finally, marshmallows I can Instagram. ~Can't go wrong After reading Michele & Johns reviews, Indy & I had to make the trip to check out Fireside Mallow. Note: They are available at Alberstons on Broadway in Boise so you don't have to drive all the way to Caldwell. ~Rectangles of joy Fireside Mallow is extremely easy to find and street parking is free. The lady at the counter was very helpful and we tried a sample of the Cookies & Cream marshmallows. We got a bag of those and bag of Vanilla. ~Bouji level: Expert Fireside Mallow took something ordinary and made it fancy and they did it exceptionally well. They are not messing around, these are gourmet marshmallows. A bag of these would make a nice gift, the packaging is on point, very chic. The quality of these marshmallows is tops and they are really worth the price. Pro tip: Fireside Mallows are available across the street at Flying M Coffeeshop. I recommend tossing one in a mocha or latte just for fun. Indy recommends throwing a Fireside Mallow in hot chocolate.

The kids picked out marshmallow pops which were so cute, decorated for Halloween! I picked out a bag of huckleberry chocolates for the hubby! And for myself, truffles! These are the BEST! We split a pumpkin, dirty banana, and a peppermint one. Omgsh so delicious! We also grabbed some chocolate pretzel sticks too. These were also so yummy! I appreciate how affordable literally everything in the shop was. This makes it easier to come back and reward the kids more often. Lady at the front was super friendly and great with the kids. We enjoyed talking with her. The shop is so adorable and decorated. She organizes all her goods in a way that's easy to browse all options without visually overwhelming you. Top to bottom, it is spic and span. That always makes me happy knowing food is prepped in a hygienic environment. We're all excited to come back and try new flavors and treats!

So we ended yesterday's Caldwell "buy local" excursion by returning to Bluebird Confections to find the "ahhh"-roma as we walked in of in house made caramel, individually wrapped and also chocolate covered, in various flavor combinations. They also make truffles and chocolate dipped marshmallow pop and everything is made on site. The hand wrapped caramels are sold in bags (of a dozen $10) or individually and come in multiple flavors and combinations. Wrapped caramels have little samples to try to help you decide if you're torn among all the many options. A bag of bourbon-pecan caramels came home with us to pass along to our originally from Kentucky next door neighbor along with some of the cutely decorated marshmallow pops ($1.75) for the children. We bought a bag of beer-pretzel caramels for ourselves along with a couple of truffles (cherry and huckleberry). Truffles and the chocolate covered caramels can be purchased individually or in clear gift worthy small boxes. Some of the truffle and caramel flavors are all year long offerings (like sea salt) and some are seasonal offerings, like the huckleberry available in this season. Local ingredients are used in making these confections and you can taste the quality. Because caramels are fresh made there is a "best by" date on the bottom of each bag and the owner shared with us if one doesn't want to eat them prior to that (the date on ours was about a month out) that they store indefinitely in the freezer. (But, "hahahahaha" we said, they will not make it a full week at our house. Still, frozen caramels sound delicious!) SERVICE: The owner helped us make our selections and answered our questions about the business and her splendid service is part of what made shopping here a sweet experience. LOCATION: Blaine Street is near downtown Caldwell and was once upon a time a street of residences so businesses here were once old houses. If you recognize the Bluebird Confections house as onceuponatime location of The Sweetspot Bakery your memory would be right on that. (That bakery moved into more commercial space a few blocks away.) PARKING: Blaine is a one way street now pretty busy access way to downtown and it has no on street parking. But there is a driveway alongside Bluebird that leads to a small lot behind the building and a paved walkway at the side leading to the front entrance. ACCESSIBILITY: Two ADA spots in the back lot (sadly, one of them seems occupied by a vehicle without ADA placard or plate by someone who works at the pet salon next door). Accessible path to the front door includes a ramp up so all people who want to shop for splendid confections can do that. LOO: None so plan accordingly. PS: They take special orders and with fall and winter holidays straight ahead, a good time to consider adding these to your gift list! SURPRISE!: They have licorice caramels in their line up and while I didn't buy any this time, a bag of those will come home with us next time we're in. If you haven't tried licorice caramels before they are a bees-knees combination!
