I am taking a dance class at the moment. The security is an old man who is pretty rude. He was not helpful when I was looking for my dance class. I understand he's trying to be cautious but unnecessarily rude. The instructor I'm taking a clsss with is cool. The studio itself is ok - could be a newer and use some remodeling but here the job done. There is no AC so during dance it does get quite hot and musty... There is parking in the back but very unclear of where. read more

I have only come here for dance classes, but have been here several times now and love the space. They have a large, medium and small room, plenty of restrooms, changing rooms, and cubbies to keep your stuff. It's always clean, positive vibes and the sound system is great! There's a front door entrance for the small room and a side entrance for the larger studios. I came here once maybe two years ago, and I've just gotten the courage to write about it. Chelsea Scala, otherwise known as CJ taught me a dance class, me, and my two brown friends, she was extremely racial. Explaining she was "one of us" can I touch you're braids", lastly "Trump isn't that bad" She had white powder coming out of her nose obviously drugs, which she offered to sell to us. Her dancing was in no way rhythmic. And when I try to complain to the owner, he shrugged me off. This woman is racially problematic, and she sells and deals drugs. She should not be teaching dance at any studio. read more

I did some research on this place and found this is the place for me to build my strength and tone my muscles. This place is clean on the outside and as well on the inside too. I met the teacher Diana which was so helpful with info for me and as well as guiding me through the backward and bending postures which I want to add was pretty challenging. I also met Ann one of the ladies in charge that got me all sign up also some great info about the different classes here like plyojam dance class, tai chi also stretch / yoga class. So I needed a rehearsal space close to a filming location for a project I was directing. We didn't want to have to drive from north Hollywood to south central so I reached out to CY&D seeing as I had been there before for classes and a friend of mine that was helping me out said try then. At first they were suppose to be closed in the day I needed, but when I told them my situation that we were on a tight time crunch for this dance concept video production they got back to me by email and said they would let me rent the space for the needed 2 hr rehearsal. It worked out perfectly. We got out rehearsal done with time to spare, made it to our location on time and got everything we needed shot. CY&D was so helpful in making sure our day moved smoothly. My first time here, about 6 months ago, I took a beginner class with Katrina. She the class moved at a nice smooth pace and she focused on reminding us to take our time and to do what your body allows you to do. I liked it, so I took another class. Next I took Polly's class. This was a warm room Vinyasa flow. Now, this was a workout. I was challenged, encouraged and entertained! Polly is fabulous and has a warm and welcoming personality. I have to say I felt totally welcomed and accepted here. KarLee, the owner, is friendly and welcoming. She has a variety of classes for all levels and ages. My favorite aspect? I've been meaning to come here for over a year, and I finally made it in today for the Chakra meditation with Sherida. The studio was very tranquil. Romantic lighting and candles made it a great escape from life's stresses. I'm new to Chakra meditation, but will probably keep going...at least once a month. I use to take Zumba with Sherida awhile back at another location, and I love her. She has such a pure spirit, It is always great to be in her presence and connect with her energy. I recommend taking her yoga and meditation classes. But I'm sure all the instructors are great, so I suggest just picking a class and showing up. You won't have any regrets in coming here. I've been taking burlesque classes with Katrina for over one year now and don't plan on stopping anytime soon! What began as a weekly strut evolved into an entire Booty Etiquette and Charm School. Not only do we have the option to study floor work, props, strut and striptease - but we get the chance to perform in multiple showcases throughout the year. The intensive training that leads up to these showcases have helped tremendously with technique, stage presence, confidence, costume/prop crafting and production! We have a beautiful community of women here that will continue to grow. Not only do I love Crenshaw Yoga & Dance for its burlesque program but for its contribution to the community. Classes are affordable, facilities are gorgeous and staff is like family. I had a blast at the 2nd annual Christmas Ball and will continue to try new yoga, dance classes and workshops. Such a great gem in the neighborhood. I went to Yoga plus with Pam and absolutely loved it. She had fantastic cueing. I was able to really stretch and focus on the work that I've been missing. I chose this place based on the reviews of the others. I've got to tell you... you will SWEAT. I thought my heart was going to jump OUT my chest and yell "STOP IT" at me. You must bring water. Ladies, tie the "girls" down. They will slap in the face if not properly secured. Debbie was phenomenal. I am so out of shape. I wanted to stop after 25 minutes. But I wanted my $5 worth. LOL. I shall be returning. Parking on the side of the studio is metered so bring quarters. Andrew was very gracious. He took the money and the paperwork. There were a lot of ladies there. I want to say about 15-20 of us. They have bathrooms there where you can change. They have a special right now, $60 for 10 classes. They also have yoga, but this big gal needs to move something. It was so much fun-it reminded me of my college/club days. The music is switched up. Michael Jackson, Tito Puente, Sean Paul, reggaeton, Luther Campbell. You're gonna shake yo money maker. I've also got to add- the ladies who are suffering & sweating with you are SO encouraging!! Honestly. You'd want to come back for the camaraderie. About 2 months ago I went on a pole dancing/ burlesque quest and my search landed me at several classes all over the city. Some were too easy and others were not really a work out on their own, because they were only effective as a long series. I just wanted a fun dance class with a burlesque twist that didn't need a big commitment but offered a great work out. That brought me to Mecca Andrews Burlesque Ballet class at 7 pm on Thursdays. Mecca is a cute and spunky instructor who is super supportive and easy to follow. Her class is challenging and fun at the same time. And sooooo affordable at $10. This class is a winner, love it! read more

OMG, so I went back for the samba class and left knowing that I was out of shape. The instructor made my butt work! She's really good and encourages you to get the steps correct and give 100%. I had a fantastic workout, and went back the following Saturday for Samba and Belly dancing class right after...11:45-2:00- now that was a great workout!! I will be back !! read more

Mike teaches the real deal mindfulness yoga, like using sound to release tension and using the breath to maintain the pose. He has a unique mix of humor and philosophy and his class has become my favorite Sunday ritual. I really wanted to like this yoga studio. The reason for the low rating is due to the experience. The instructor was great..she was warm and welcoming. However, I did not appreciate certain comments made by an individual in the class. It started with a petty comment over a previous injury I sustained. Also, every person has their own practice. If I choose not to perform a certain pose it is because in my practice I feel I am not ready to take on that pose. Comments like, "She is scared to try it" said in a negative context are not helpful and do not add positivity to my practice. As a yogi, you should be supportive and encouraging, after all we are a community. Because of this individual, I will not be returning to the studio. :/ read more

Nice, spacious studio with one of my favorite dance classes - Dancehall L.A. with Moiika (currently on Wednesday nights at 8:30). I read about a Sunday morning class on NextDoor and thought I'd give it a try. I used to do a lot of yoga but I've had a hard time finding classes I like. Mike's class was great. I loved the pace and the pranayama. It was just right. The facility is really nice. It's a little storefront on Crenshaw. They offer lots of different kinds of yoga as well as dance classes like Salsa and HipHop. They are even offering summer intensives for the kids! It's a great asset to our community. read more

Okay, tonight was my third Zumba class of the week. I have been on a quest to find the perfect Zumba class. My first class this week was at The Aerobic Room on Crenshaw...great class...I then tried Zumba with David Aldana at the Party Rock Fitness Studion in Culver City ..David's focused on toning and conditioning...Tonight was Zumba class with Chloe at the Crenshaw Yoga and Dance Studio on Crenshaw/54th St. in Los Angeles. I must say this was a supper dance fun Zumba class and will become on Wednesday class of choice. Chloe the instructor was a lots of fun, has a great personality and energetic. Tonight was her first class at Crenshaw Yoga and Dance and I will certainly be going again next Wednesday night. It was Zumba Dance party. Come check it out. I was invited by the owner of the Crenshaw Yoga and Dance, Kar Lee Young, who is so very friendly and very nice. The studio offers Yoga, Zumba, Tai Chi, Drumming and Meditation classes for all levels. Thank you Kar Lee I had a fantastic time and I will see you next week. The people - both staff and clients - are friendly and kind. Be sure to take some quarters/loose change for the meters in case you can't grab a spot on the left side (non-metered). I've had the pleasure of taking Dancehall Class w/Moiika for the past few weeks. She is incredible at her craft, the girl is BADDDD! She is a very supportive and patient instructor. No matter your physique, fitness, or dance level....she definitely will give you something to groove to, feel good about, and look good while doing it!! She breaks things down with execution of choreo, to "jus feelin deh vibe", and go with "your own swag" And when there are steps I can't quite catch, it gives me motivation to improve so I am always looking forward to the next class. I would pay for just the warm up and cool down portions of class, effective stretching to the sexy vibe of dancehall music...LOVE THAT!!!
