Below are her exact words from our text exchange (screenshots attached): "You don't really seem to be in a good headspace, so I'd rather you come when we can communicate better." No conversation. No context. No compassion. She refunded me immediately and refused to answer the phone. This woman is not a licensed therapist, yet she made a clinical-sounding judgment about my "headspace" based on a few texts. That's not care -- that's discrimination. It's emotionally reckless, and it caused real harm. What's most painful is that I was proud of myself for showing up. I've been doing the work -- therapy, sobriety, healing -- and taking this class was a big, vulnerable step. To be told I was "unfit" by someone without qualifications was retraumatizing. Amy's lack of communication and empathy proves she is not trauma-informed and should not be running a class that markets itself as "healing." Instructor and receptionist: I didn't catch the receptionists name when I entered, but he was really friendly and made me feel welcomed, which I appreciated a lot. I had Lauren as an instructor, she was very personable and friendly. She has a great attitude, did all the moves and was able to help correct my form. The only comment I would like to add was that the music was too loud at times to hear what she was saying (or maybe that's how the class is designed...?) The studio: It's a cute, clean studio with showers in the top level. I really appreciate them having showers, because it seems like it's very difficult to find a boutique studio that offers showers, even though you pay about $30 per class. I thought the shower situation was a little awkward. There are two showers in the same small room with a washer and dryer. After class, two of us showered, but I waited until the other person showered (I didn't feel comfortable showering next to someone else with no shower curtain, only clear doors). Parking: we all know that parking in WeHo is impossible and expensive, but they recommend a lot about a block away with parking being free the first hour. I ended up paying $3 though because it took me about an hour and twenty minutes. Overall, if you like high impact work like jumping and dancing I think you would enjoy this place.

Can't we just go out on the dance floor and just shift around to a slow song at a jr high school dance like everyone else?" In my nervousness and frustration over the prospect of getting up in front of a large audience of friends and family to put on a dance number, I found myself blaming Walt Disney. You know, all those fairy tale princesses and their ballroom dance scenes; Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast and many others indoctrinating young girls all around the world to dream about that Snow White moment when someday their prince comes and they can be the "princess" and glide around the floor just like in the cartoon movies. Don't worry, my rant won't turn into a screed because fortunately for me, my fiancée chose to to seek out Murisa to help get us ready for our number on the big day. Murisa is wonderful instructor. As a novice to dancing/ballroom dancing, I had no idea how to properly move on the dance floor but her instruction helped me to clean up my form and movement by laying things out in terms that I was able to understand. Plus she was patient with us as we were looking for a song that inspired us (we changed songs twice) and changed the dance from a Viennese waltz to a traditional waltz then back to Viennese waltz. All in all we took ten lessons from Murisa. Each lesson is 45 mins and the lessons are held in a facility near Koreatown. The facility has a large dance floor that is shared by many other instructors and dancers of all levels. Murisa's scheduling is flexible, however, her time slots can fill up fast, so if you're in a time crunch to get ready before your wedding day, best do it soon!

And then there's the yoga itself: Original Hot Yoga for me delivers the most meaningful and healing transformation. Because classes are 90 minutes, you see benefits and true improvement in a way that just doesn't happen in a shorter yoga formats. If you wonder if this 26+2 format might be too hard, or that the heat might be too much, I'd encourage you to try Flora + Bast's studio. The instructors are all so supportive, clear and knowledgeable, the postures so approachable at any level, and most find the heat more of a psychological than physical challenge that gets so much easier after you survive that first class, and delivers huge physical and mental benefits.
