Returned this year because we enjoyed the custard so much last year. Decided to try the crepes and can we just say WOW!!! These were the BEST crepes we've ever had. We tried one from each category. The sweet strawberry, the savory Monte Crisco and the breakfast bacon, egg and cheese were all out of this world. The portion sizes were also impressive and definitely filling. We also decided to try the potato salad, 100% recommend adding this on. Not to mention everything is made fresh and to order. The service is timely and friendly and the store itself offers a place to eat outside and enjoy the lake. This is the first crepe that I have been able to find that is gluten free. It was loaded with strawberries and cream inside and I asked her to go light on the power sugar on top. She was out of the gluten free batter and took the time to mix some up for me. It was wonderful and huge. I couldn't eat all of it! We planned to specifically stop here before our stroll as it's dog friendly, and we walk our dog on Lake Junaleska regularly (and we English love our French crepes). The problem? There are no prices on the menu or website...at all. Who wants to ask the price of each item? Or feel suckered when you find your, maybe $5 crepe (which would be 1/2 one egg, 1/8 c milk, 1/2 tbsp butter, 1/4 c flour plus overhead) is actually, say... $11? We understand tourist prices, but you have to be honest and forthright - and those laminated sheets aren't that expensive to change out, unless you're changing your prices every week or on a whim. Rather than ask for prices, item by item, we left for the chaos shake shoppe down the road, who list their prices (and are amazing, btw). read more

We finally got to try Crepe & Custard. We ordered the Monte Cristo, Ham & Cheese, and Chicken Salad Crepes. All were outstanding. Pricing is fair. The restaurant is small, but clean. They have a very nice outdoor seating area with terrific views of the lake. As for service...well, there isn't any to speak of. The customer has to use the self service kiosk. Technically, you don't have to speak with anyone. I don't actually like that operating model as a customer. I actually like a personal experience. The staff were cordial. We left a nice tip as the kiosk encouraged us to do. That said, McDonalds offers more service and I don't tip them. read more

You order your food from a kiosk and then pick it up at the counter, so there's not much service involved. Such a cute spot! Situated right on the lake with a nice covered patio that's perfect if you have your pooch with you. I got the strawberry crepe and my husband got the monte cristo crepe. Customers expected to fumble through a clumsy, confusing "app" at the counter to place an order. Customers expected to know when their order is ready and pick up at counter. Tepid, bad coffee was self-serve and accompanied by "coffee mate" singles. Food was cold, flavorless, very unappetizing. My "Benedict" crepe was an overdone fried egg with thin deli-ham encased in the coldest, most rubbery excuse for a pre-made "crepe" I've ever seen. Customer expected to bus their own table. Yet the "app" asked for a "tip" at the time of placing the order. Would not have left gratuity if I had known how dysfunctional and poor the experience was going to be. Absolutely delicious!!! I accidentally ordered my bacon egg & cheese crepe with lettuce and tomato, went to order a new one so I wasn't picking out the pieces and the incredibly kind staff would not let me pay for another, even though it was my fault I ordered it incorrectly. Got a second crepe that was just what I wanted and SO tasty! Fresh ingredients and nice crispy bacon! Absolutely the sweetest team working here today! The ordering was done by kiosk, with 2 employees within speaking distance. They were busy preparing orders, but it seemed very impersonal. I did do a tip, I was not sure if the preparation of my food would be impacted by the amount of the tip. Not sure why I tipped, there was no customer service, you are expected to bus your own table too. In a quaint little specialty shop like this, I believe customer service is paramount, there was none. I ordered the chicken-salad, and there were only like 2 to 3 pieces of very small cube chicken, they added some greens also just a few, but they filled the plate with bread crumbs to make it look plentiful, they don't give you enough chicken so it is NOT a chicken-salad, it is a bread-crumb salad, not worth the price. Dissapointing! My friends ordered the crepes they did not like them either, the crepes were thick like slices of pizza, & never like crepes. They have two touch-up screen to place your orders, they don't clean the screens after each customer, the staff don't wash their hands before preparing the food, they were just two handling everything inside. The tables outside very dirty, they don't clean them after customers leave, so the next party gets all the dirty tables. The two staff were not friendly. Disgusting! We will never go back! The staff, Genie and Addy, greeted me with a smile and walked me through ordering the MOST delicious sausage egg and cheese crepe with bechamel sauce on the side! And the coffee---perfection. It is a 209 blend from Smokey Mountain Coffee Roasters and simply soothed my chilled soul! I should've stopped there but could not leave without adding to my sins a blueberry filled sweet crepe topped with house made whipped cream. Crepe and Custard is located on the shore of Lake Junaluska by the pool and hours are 8-4 M-S, 7 days a week (except major holidays). The woman working, at the time was very rude when I came up and said that my order was wrong. I don't typically send food back, as I feel bad. In this case, I was unable to eat an ingredient on it and so I came in just nicely stated that I only asked for the meat and cheese (which I did by creating my own breakfast crepe) and she looked at me like I was dumb. She stated "all breakfast crepes automatically come with egg" (which no where did it say that on the menu). I love going here the staff are always so nice and friendly. We love all the different ways you can order a crepe if something you can't have just let them know and boom they will fix you up. If there is a crepe you wanna create then you can on the self service computer. They make it so easy and fun for kids too... There is a lot of toppings for custard and my kids say it's so yummy ... There also so nice to my kids even thou they can be a handful inside restaurants. These workers there always make sure we are enjoying ourself and the food is made the way want..
