Let me first say I was worried about this place due to location being in a shopping strip. But, I should know better than to judge on looks. We were so impressed with food quality, cleanliness, and excellent service. Megan was our server, she was wonderful made great recommendations, friendly, staggered our food perfectly, and never let our cups go dry. Cornbread was hot, moist, and so yummy. Onion straw with a bbq ranch sauce was perfect! We got the pork chops, so tender you could cut with fork, it needed nothing, along with mashed potatoes! The food was 5 star quality! The restaurant, the food, and the staff all lived up to the hype. Ate lunch here today, and sat at the bar. Young lady that waited on me, was friendly and service was excellent. She recommended the Hot on the Trail Burger, which was spot on. I did review the ingredients, and knew that each, and everything on it I liked. The blackened seasoning was perfect. Back again this year, just when it's a bit colder and SNOWING!! Yea, November 11th and we are getting snow -- and the Blue Rooster was the perfect, cozy, warm place to have an early dinner! Brandon was an excellent server, very attentive and friendly. All the food, like last time, was paced perfectly. Our apps and salad were not overlapped by my our entrees! And the rolls, c'mon! They're hot and delicious! We shared the onion strings app, tasted perfect and loved the dipping sauce. We also got side salads with ranch -- wow, you can tell it's made there, and just the right amount of dill in it! For entrees, wife and I shared the 14oz ribeye -- WOW, is it good -- with a side of broccoli. Good amount of marbling, perfect temp (medium), and juicy. MIL had the fried chicken, which was probably a 3 out of 5 for her. Only two of the four pieces were juicy, and to me it looked a little over cooked. We had no room for dessert, and the snow started coming down heavy, so we left after filling up. Make sure you don't assume anything with this place being in a strip mall -- it is sooooo good! We dropped in today and we were so hungry from Shopping. I got the classic burger and sweet potato fries and a side of fried okra. My husband got the chopped steak, green beans and potato salad. My burger was perfect! Everyone was super friendly and it was nice and cozy inside with relaxing music. I would definitely recommend everyone to stop and enjoy their delicious food. What an incredible quaint place! The southern decor and ambiance was right on! The food was delicious and our waitress was amazing and it's a shame I don't remember her name. She heard us talking about my seafood allergy and she was so incredible making sure that what I ordered would be shellfish free with no cross contamination. Even if it meant I couldn't have the fried green tomatoes. I was so appreciative of her attentiveness. We went around 5:30 on a Friday and had to wait about 15 mins to be seated but it was no biggie. I later learned that the wait was due to Prime Rib night. My cousin ordered it and loved it. Looking forward to visiting the Blue Rooster again. Hopefully sooner than later. read more

Very sorry to say but this place has gone way downhill. I went today because I wanted fried green tomatoes, I had previously had the best ever order from them several times. This time they were so salty I had to knock off as much batter as I could just to eat it. The Caesar salad had tough greens and I frankly didn't like the dressing. Plus, for what it's worth the croutons were sweet and after eating a second I realized they were recycling their rolls which are sweet for croutons. Yuck! Sweet croutons in a Caesar? I did mention the salty fried green tomatoes to the server and they did bring me a free dessert which I brought home. The cake was so dry I had one bite and threw it out. Not a good service recovery. I liked my server but the food delivery was very slow. I don't know what is going on there but obviously a change of cooking staff and they are not tasting the food. And the prices have increased a lot. I won't be back. It's just too much money for below mediocre. read more

Just had a terrific lunch at Blue Rooster. My first meal there was a total disaster. I said I would not go back. Glad I changed my mind. I ordered the same fried chicken sandwich I had on my first visit. This time it was really tasty and fresh. I ordered mashed potatoes rather than fries this time. They were fantastic. So was it the "best" fried chicken sandwich I have ever had? No. However, it was really good. This time I ate in the restaurant rather than take out. Upon outward appearance, a restaurant beside a grocery store is always iffy, but in this instance, the Blue Rooster Souther Grill is somewhere you need to dine in. The line was already long when we arrived, but being as it's in a line of stores, a quick trip down to another business, and then some time in the outside rocking chairs, passed the time before our table was ready. As a larger party, we were sat in a wraparound booth that had neat coastal items and roosters/chickens galore. The pillows you could place in your back at the wooden booth added a soft touch. The bathrooms that were single occupancy eighth around the corner was super convenient for littles. We started the meal with their skillet cornbread. Albeit on the smaller side, it was a nice treat for the six of us. The "just beet it salad" was so large, I now have half waiting for me to eat today. The arugula provided a nice change in flavor to the savory beets, but the bleu cheese was phenomenal. Others got the 4 vegetable plate, the "biltmore bouquet salad" (with enough strawberries inside that when my little requested them to "share" the strawberries weren't noticed), the kids chicken nuggets (which we called roosters - because it's a rooster restaurant), and the main attraction - the prime rib. Friday nights are prime rib nights, and I definitely know why the wait was so long. Served with its own adorable container of au jus, the prime rib was expertly prepared and oh so tender and delicious. This place is so good I want to shout it from the mountaintops, but at the same time I don't want to because then the wait would be even longer. So just know, if you've read this review, you are in for an excellent meal. read more

Honestly, I've heard so many good things about this place, but it was definitely underwhelming. The kids burger came with a bun two sizes too small for the patty and not because the patty was so large. It looked like one of the dinner rolls was used for the bun. We asked if it came with lettuce and tomato and the server said no, but they could add it. Got the bill and they had charged .69 each. That would have been perfectly fine, if the server had disclosed. Server asked if we wanted cheese on the burger. We said yes, but guess what? You got it. Another up charge. I asked for plain ranch instead of bbq ranch with the very greasy onion rings and again the server said sure. No explanation that there was an up charge. The stewed purple cabbage was inedible. No flavor and tough. Baked potato casserole wasn't good either. The highlight was the fried chicken and the sweet tea. Dropped in here today for lunch because my husband absolutely loves the turkey and dressing on Thursdays. Our waitress explained the Valentine's Day specials (she gave us no prices - and no prices on the board outside, either). I ordered the gumbo and for my salad, a Caesar (it was also not mentioned there was an upcharge for this). When lunch came, the gumbo was less than room temperature. I sent it back and when she brought it back, it was no different, except the bottom of the bowl was warm to the touch. Soup? Still cold. Decided just to take it to go and heat it properly at home. Imagine our surprise when we got the bill and the gumbo was $28.99, with a .99c upcharge for the salad! Seriously, $30 for cold soup and when sent back they could not even resolve the issue. Hey, when I did reheat it at home to a proper temp, it was quite good. Not $30 good. I would say it is better to focus on making one restaurant really good instead of having two now mediocre ones. read more

This place is where it's at! You'd have no idea looking at it from the outside, but once you get inside the whole place opens up with this really warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff puts hospitality first, and the food is absolutely killer! We started out with a daily special appetizer--fried pickled okra. I'm not a big fried okra fan, but this was incredibly light and airy and not slimy at all. I had a side sampler for my meal--collard greens, grits, hush puppies, and beans. What set it over the top was their house made pepper vinegar; I wish I could have taken a bottle of that home. A bunch of my friends also got the skillet fried chicken and were raving about how good it was. And I finished things off with an absolutely decadent pecan cobbler. This is southern food at its finest. If you're coming through and staying at Lake Junaluska for anything, you owe it to yourself to check this restaurant out! We had Fried Green Tomatoes for the table and the tomatoes were sliced paper thin and the batter was very salty VERY salty. I had a shrimp poorboy. It was good, lots of shrimp and fresh bread. I have been a great supporter of this restaurant for years. over the past few months it has been simply terrible. we waited over 45 minutes to be served for lunch yesterday and the food was delivered cold and the chicken was so tuff that it was difficult to cut. we ordered 2 salmon dinners the next day and asked that they be cooked medium rare so we could reheat it at home. they forgot the sauce and it was cooked well done and very very dry. it was uneatable . . this used to be put go to place. wow what in the world happened to this restaurant read more

Because this restaurant is in a nondescript strip mall, you might discount it and pass it by. That would be a mistake! We ran some errands that took us by the UPS Store, which is next door, otherwise we might have missed it. It was lunch time so we decided to give it a try, and I'm glad we did! It was very difficult to choose an entree, because they all looked awesome! I really wanted the meatloaf special but it looked like way too much food! We ordered a variety of burgers that were all delicious and we shared so we could experience them all. My only knock on the food is, we ordered our burgers medium and all three came out medium well. They still tasted great but they would have been better if they were cooked to our taste. As with all my reviews I try to end with comments on the service. I am pleased to report, as we found at most (if not all) businesses in the Maggie Valley/Waynesville area, the service was outstanding!
