The plus side is this place is really cute and the staff and hairdressers there are really nice and friendly. The negative is that my friend and I went there and they were getting their hair done, and no matter WHAT they did, they could not communicate to the stylist what they wanted. It was a request for a pretty basic braid down the back of the head and a beard trim...and it just ended up looking messy bordering on bad. The stylist just didn't seem to understand the request and my friend left feeling like they had thrown money down the toilet. Stopped in for a cut and style while I was in town for a wedding! They squeeze me in and did an excellent job. The vibes and the music and the service was all immaculate! I got my hair cut for the first time in 4 yrs (hair cut anxiety) and ended up with having3/4 of my hair thinned out and a huge gap in the back from it being thinned too much. I never asked for thinninf and said i was okay with length between chin/shoulders. Final cut was about shoulder length but i had to go to a haircut specialist to fix it and cut it to chin length. I have had to go in every 3 months to trim it just to repair my thickness before growing it out again, and it will be at least another year before it returns to normal. Was not comfortable going back to stylist to fix it as she would not own up to how bad it was, instead saying it was just too intense to my normal style. read more

Absolutely unacceptable. Came in for a 2:00 appointment and was told the hairdresser was running late but should be done soon. 40 minutes in, they said another 15 minutes before I would be seated. Pricey but it's because they use good products for your hair. Had a great experience overall. Got a haircut and I had medium length hair (around bust) and they charged $65. I think I would go for something more dramatic like coloring or styling but if you're just getting a trim or regular hair cut you can definitely save. Sarah did it up - she's only the 3rd hairdresser I've ever let cut my hair, in my 24 years of existence but after reading the good reviews and getting an appointment within two days (thanks to Lisa helping me schedule an appt so quickly), it was worth the. It's tricky to find, and you have to enter a passcode to get in, which is on the sign. It's in the back on the second floor. The studio is bright and way larger than I had imagined. Sarah was really great and friendly. She helped me get my hair to the desired length and did nice finishing touches (textured the ends and added layers). We spoke the whole time, and it turns out we are from the same place in New Jersey. I'll definitely be back to see Sarah again! read more

I've just recently moved to Philly and needed to find a hair stylist. I checked out Yelp of course, and came across Crimson. First off, parking is difficult and expensive in downtown Philadelphia. For an hour and half it ran me $31. Ouch! Crimson is located on the second floor of an older building so if you walk fast, you may miss it. It's basically just a door with a sign on it. Once you get to the door, you need to call them with the intercom to let you in the door. Once inside it's just a flight of step and you're there. It's a small shop with a very hip atmosphere! Staff is friendly. There prices are average for any higher end stylist. Brooke cut my hair and did a nice job. She took her time and focused on details. I will definitely go back, but need to figure out the parking situation. Parking cost almost as much as the haircut! Crazy right! read more

I really sat on this review for awhile because I was a client here several years ago and had nothing but positive experiences. I went to crimson in November and saw a new stylist at the salon that had glowing reviews (I have since realized many of these reviewers only had 1 review and no activity). I have fine blonde hair, I asked for the stylist to lighten my hair about a stage lighter then what it currently was. For the record my hair is naturally a dark blonde and lightens super easily. The stylist put lightner on my roots all over my head - I was skeptical as I have typically always had foil highlights but trusted the stylist. What transpired was the most brassy color I have ever seen. Mind you I have naturally blonde hair so there is no reason for my hair to turn brassy. She was totally okay with the outcome and was shocked that I expressed concern over the color. She said it was just the lighting ?!??? And would look better once dry. The stylist then proceeded to dry my hair completely and put a toner on it. This in turn gave my hair an almost green color to it. Almost 3 hours in and not 1 single other stylist stepped in to assist her when my hair was clearly not in a state that was suitable for a "professional" stylist to have done. At this point she proceeds to put highlight on top of everything she had done to break it up as my roots were still extremely brassy and my ends super ashy. 5 hours later my hair was still a complete mess . What shocks me the most is that not one single other stylist stepped in to assist her and allowed her to continue to mess up my hair. I was super upset at this point and with no other intervention told her it was fine and proceeded to pay and leave. After this experience I emailed the owner who agreed to fix my hair . The problem was that my hair was so damaged by this experience they weren't able to do anything other then put low lights in. Mind you- I went in to go blonder and ended up way darker then I originally was. The integrity of my hair was destroyed. I moved a couple weeks later and waited an additional month since they were unable to do anything to my hair due to the condition of it. I was finally almost $400 later able to get corrective color done to it. I ended up having to get 5 inches cut off. I have severe breakage now. I have tried meticulously for years to have healthy blonde hair and had it destroyed in the matter of a day. read more

She then helped me donate the bulk of my hair through Pantene and gave me one of the best shorter haircuts I've ever had: styles easily and the front is actually long enough to get back into a ponytail (an execution first!)! When we moved to the Philadelphia area four years ago, we spent some time looking for a salon to call home with a fantastic stylist with whom we could develop a long-term relationship. It took us a little while, but we stumbled upon Francesca at Crimson. My husband and I have now been seeing Francesca every four weeks for more than three years. We drive in to the city from Drexel Hill, so it is a little bit of a commitment, but one that pays off for us! We love Francesca: she's warm, friendly, and fun to talk to. More importantly, she gives a consistently great haircut! I read another review from a guy who said she gives the best men's cut in the city; I might agree with that! She's from the Philadelphia area, and we enjoy sharing our experiences with restaurants and other local attractions. I should give a shout-out to Lisa, the receptionist, too. She's always helpful and friendly! As far as the salon goes, it's located in Rittenhouse Square which is nice for us because we get cuts on Saturday mornings and visit the farmer's market on the square and have lots of great options for breakfast. Parking is easy at that time of day, too. We can usually park right outside the salon. We also like the Kevin Murphy products they carry. He is fantastic and gave me the best cut I've had in a long time. The salon has great energy and I'd probably use any of the stylists based upon the way they were so focused on their clients. Becca: Came here on the recommendation of a friend a few days after getting pretty bad highlights at a different salon. I called the salon in a panic and the woman I spoke at the front desk was super comforting and got me in ASAP. I saw Sarah who was AWESOME. She really took the time to go through what I wanted my hair to look like (showing me hair color swatches). She has great attention to detail and really listens to what you want. I genuinely thought my hair was a lost cause but it turned out so much better when Sarah was done. She really saved the day! The salon is pretty big and trendy on the inside. Not sure of the other costs, but at around $35/glaze, it is pretty affordable (especially for a nice salon in the city). All staff are friendly and helpful--everyone listened to me panic about my bad highlights and no one made fun of me for being overly dramatic about it. TO NOTE- I would absolutely edit this review if the situation was rectified I usually go to talking headz in west Philly and I was looking to possibly try this place out for my extremely short hair cut since it is way closer to where I live. I looked online and saw that men's haircuts start at 35 dollars and up and women's at 55 dollars and up. I have extremely short hair, a 2 on the side and longer but still very short top. I called and explained that to the receptionist and asked, would that be considered a men's cut? She said nope, starts at 55 dollars for women's. Now I'm just confused, do they really base price solely on gender? Would a man with my same haircut (highly possible and likely) also pay 55 dollars or would he pay 35? It's not explained anywhere and I would absolutely edit my review in the future if this could be explained better somewhere. Then I walked into their salon and asked how much a haircut would be if I made an appointment. The woman said 55 and up, and I asked about what I had read online. She said sorry, that's just how it is. So she assumed I identified as a woman for one and then discriminated based on gender. I mean I guess any business can charge what they want for any service but I surely won't give my business to them. I definitely would never recommend this place to anyone I know. It's a total shame since it looks really cool inside, maybe I would have even had an awesome hair cut. They are not inviting or inclusive in an extremely diverse city. Corrine. She is the best! She was my stylist NY for years. When she first started doing my hair I had long fine straight hair, but after a few years it became wavy out of no where! Damn hormones! She gave me great cuts both textures, and nailed long hair and short hair. Over the years we have done gorgeous natural blond highlights, punchy reds, rad / edgy cuts, subtle color to add some dimension, color panels- you name it. My time waiting was not a problem due to lots of beverage and snack options, plus one very cute dog that visited. Great cut, albeit pricey. She did a great job! I got a partial highlight and hair cut. It was very reasonable for the area. She was super accommodating and did an amazing job. I usually hate getting haircuts; they're ranked up there with going to the dentist and getting a colonoscopy as one of my least favourite routine tasks. But somehow, Crimson has managed to alleviate my fear of going to the barber. My hair cut looks great, was relatively quick (in and out in about 30 min), and the service was fantastic. Becky cut my hair, and I would highly recommend her to anyone else. I'm not a very small-talk-ish person, so most of my haircuts usually go on in awkward silence; Beck was very friendly, however, and though we didn't talk much, I still felt very comfortable and at east the entire time. Two notes: they do accept ccards but tips are cash only. And I'm not sure if this applies only to returning individuals, but Becky informed me that neck trims were free. read more

Crimson is awesome too. :) The exposed brick walls give the salon a beautiful interior and they have all kinds of snacks and tea and drinks to munch on if you arrive a little early. Emily is a doll and a mastermind. She has been my stylist for a while giving me wonderful haircuts and most recently I took the plunge in dying my hair too and now she is my colorist.
