Phil was so easy to communicate with, answered all of our questions, invited us for a tasting and let me tell you... we were in love with their pizza and the service was excellent! We tried these guys again and went with the same three as the last time: the Brooklyn, the Pepperoni, and the Honey Garlic. The Brooklyn is my fave (fennel sausage and pepperoncinis) but I can see why the Honey Garlic is popular--it's a tad sweet but the flavors are nice and clean. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the Pepperoni, either. The crust is paper thin and that's no accident. The ingredients are obviously high quality and fresh. Plenty of flavor on all of these pizzas. Very, very good stuff. read more

In July, I started reaching out to different pizza caterers for my son's October birthday. I asked for pricing, availability and whether they could even do his birthday because it was on the upper level of a park. I contacted Phil because I had their pizza at a friend's party. We go back and forth and he tells me he can't move the oven to the upper level of the park. Ok, that was all I needed to know and I move on to find another caterer. I did not confirm a booking OR make a deposit. And I did not speak to him over the phone; I only left a voicemail. I've worked with dozens and dozens of caterers and am always told to make a deposit before they can book me. I'd assume any professional business would do this. Three months later, Phil emails me telling me he needs a headcount for the invoice. What? I didn't make a deposit and his first email clearly says to me that you need to make a deposit to book. I politely respond telling him I didn't book because I didn't make a deposit and was only inquiring, and he responds saying he wouldn't want my business anyway. Wow, talk about unnecessary rudeness! Bummer this business is so disorganized and unprofessional. I wouldn't dare to book with a caterer who couldn't get organized or who could be potentially rude to my guests. read more

This may be cheesy, but this Criscito Pizza Truck is grate. I ordered a Calabrian pizza, which had chilies, fennel sausage, basil, garlic, olive oil, and tomato sauce. I am somewhat lactose intolerant, so I enjoyed that this one did not have as much cheese as the others. The pizza was tasteful and the right size for me. My one "slice" or slight criticism was that the middle of the pizza was a bit soggy and droopy, so my toppings close to there fell off when I picked up my slice; otherwise, it was a great pizza and I enjoyed the rest of it. I finally tried their food truck after seeing the reviews and lines at the Casa Mira View complex. The pizza did not disappoint! I ordered the Calabrian which is topped with chilies, fennel sausage, garlic, and basil. It was one of the better pizzas I've had in SD. The crust was crispy, chewy, and a had good char to it. The pizza just comes in one size, which I believe is 12". It has 6 small slices and comes out to $14. Pay in cash to avoid a 2% credit card fee. I ran into this Neapolitan wood fired pizza truck at the Burning Beard Brewery. I was ready to crunch so had them make me the Margharita Pizza and added fennel sausage to the mix for a little bit extra. Altogether, the pizza came out to $13. The pizza was quite the looker when it came out of the oak wood burning oven. The colors were great and the crust looked terrific. Immediately I was impressed with the flavor and texture of the crust. The texture was very fine and soft with just a bit of a subtle crunch on its exterior. It was not firm so it requires a gentle fold as you eat it. The sauce was light in flavor and very good. The basil was fresh cut and tasty and both, the fresh mozzarella and Pecorino cheese were terrific. I was definitely very happy that I went with the addition of the fennel sausage. It was tender very flavorful. It had a very good seasoned pork flavor and the fennel, all be it mild, was tasty. It was a great pizza and I had not issue putting down the whole thing. Criscito catered our graduation party of 35 people. After speaking to several different pizza caterers, we chose Criscito. They offered two hours of pizza instead of 1.5. They also had a variety of 10 different pizzas instead of only a few. They arrived on time and prepared the salads freshly on site. We opted for both salads and they were both huge! The pizzas were awesome! Our party had lots of different favorites, but I think the honey garlic disappeared most often. We recently worked with Criscito for my daughter's 5th birthday party at a local park. We had 60 guests consisting of about half little kids and half adults. Food is always hard because you want to please the young picky eaters but want to give the adults a little break from having to eat what their kids eat :). Criscito's pizza was the perfect choice because the kids were happy with the plain cheese pizzas and the adults were able to try some unique flavors. Everyone at the party loved the pizza - favorites were the honey garlic and the fig! Not only was the food great but the service from booking to the very end of service was on point. Phil and team were great to work with and they just knew what to do. Sometimes hosting can be challenging because you have to talk to guests and manage food/kids/games, etc but I never once had to worry about the food yesterday. Can't get enough! I love this caterer. I have had them twice already and both times I was satisfied. The first time was in Carlsbad at the Flower Fields yelp elite event. They had all of the different flavors of pizza out for us to try, some with fig and honey, some with egg and bacon, or even the classic pepperoni. The margherita is my favorite! The 2nd time was at my friends wedding in Jamul. They were hired to cater it. What sets them apart from other pizza is the stone oven used to cook it it in along with fresh ingredients. You can definitely taste the difference. The only place for improvement is to have pizza ready for cooking before the next one comes out, this way the wait isn't as long. Other than that, I really wish they had a few locations so we could eat there more often. Until then, I'll have to keep my eye out for events they will be at. read more

There are many reviews raving about Criscito pizzas. I couldn't agree more about the quality and sometimes unique toppings. In this review, I will focus on their service at their catering events. Criscito did our family event of 30 guests. I did all the paperwork with Phil who is so easy to work with. But the star of the event was Janae who managed the event single handedly. She came in early to do her setup and ready to serve by the time the guests started arriving.. I know this is kind of taken for granted. But compare this with another caterer we had two days later for a wedding that didn't start serving until 45 minutes after scheduled start time. So, punctuality matters for a successful event. Janae setup a beautiful buffet table but unfortunately we had to move it indoors due to less than ideal weather. Janae adapted quickly and started serving in the dining room which is a bit walk from her oven She didn't complain. When it is time to end the serving per our agreement, Janae noticed that all the expected guests were not there yet. She left some half cooked pies with us to heat up in our own oven and serve the late arriving guests. How about that for service and quick thinking. Thanks, Janae for making it a memorable meal for our guests. We can't wait to invite Criscito back. read more

A "food" truck that frequents my workplace, they bring over a huge stone oven and hand make the pizza dough right in front of you! They throw all the toppings on and throw it into this stone oven and five minutes later you have a medium sized fresh pizza! Thin crust, crispy, what else could you ask for. I ordered the Calabrian pizza which was basically tomato sauce, mozzarella, huge Calabrian sausage, and Calabrian peppers! They leave the seeds in the peppers so be careful if you can't handle the spice, halfway through the pizza I couldn't handle it so I just scraped them off.
