With Maria's you know what you're gonna get. Except for tonight, when the Eggplant Parmigiana I was served turned out to be lasagna. Surprise! When I mentioned it to the waiter, he said, "I knew it. It looked like lasagna, but I served it anyway to see if you noticed." Huh? Okay. I don't dislike lasagna, and I didn't want to wait for a replacement, so I kept it, and it was very tasty. Rich, tomatoey sauce with a mix of beef and pork (plus a touch of cream) surrounded the slice of lasagna, its layers of pasta and ricotta blanketed with melted mozzarella that managed to be both gooey and crusty brown at the same time. I liked it quite a bit, though I'd have preferred to have the eggplant instead. My wife ordered the "summer lite" portion of Chicken Piccata, which had a tasty sauce and generous sides of pasta and veggies, while my daughter ordered grilled chicken with broccoli -- also nicely seasoned, and accompanied by charred, very fresh broccoli seasoned with olive oil and garlic. My son and his girlfriend are both vegan, so they shared a vegan pizza and spaghetti marinara (also vegan).
