One side of their large glass counter has the deli meat+ cheeses, followed by pre-packaged mixed greens, Salad toppings and prepared meals- which they can heat up. On days I don't bring lunch to work, I get an eggplant sandwich with lettuce/tomatoes or go for the eggplant on mixed greens with other veggies- that are both winners for me. The Spanish-speaking guys working on the kitchen side are always helpful and know my picky ways and the owners are friendly. Budget-friendly is not. But know this- S&W comes handy on this end in E. Tremont.

It is still a bit smaller than most supermarkets, but they pack everything in into a smaller footprint. There used to be a weird smell in the building years ago, but ever since the renovation, it seems to be gone. Prices aren't too bad, its comparable to other supermarkets in the area. They also have a very nice floral shop inside. It is right next to the other important area, the Beer haha! All in all a nice supermarket, plenty of parking in the front and back of the store. Friendly enough staff. No major complaints. If you are close by, its a good choice.

Costco has food and places to sit and eat while BJ's has only a takeout Dunkin' Donuts. Costco has a full service optical department that accepts health insurance. BJ's has a small optical department that does not accept health insurance. On the plus side for BJ's which is closer to me, I like that there are signs that tell you what items are in a particular aisle. Also, the lines at BJ's tend to be shorter (although on this particular visit, my checkout line was manned my the slowest cashier I've ever experienced at either wholesale club). All in all, both rate 3 1/2 stars, both have advantages and disadvantages, both are fun to visit, but I think I would give Costco a very slight edge.

The employees are friendly enough and usually helpful. It's a good size supermarket so there is a large variety of meats, produce, typical supermarket items, and a deli. Everything is always fresh. Having said this, they are not perfect. Yesterday when I went, they did not have capers or filet mignon. Also, I always buy Marino's choolate Italian Ice, but they never have the coconut flavor in stock. C'mon guys, it's my favorite. I find the check out lines are sometimes long, sometimes fair. The prices are reasonable (get those coupons). Overall, I recommend Stop & Shop, and rate it a solid 4 stars.

My sister took me to Northwell Urgent Care in Bayside, where I found out I had COVID. After that, we went to the nearest supermarket, Stop & Shop in Bayside, so she could grab ingredients to make me a good homemade soup. I've been to this location before and didn't love it. It's not well lit, and I never buy produce from there for that reason. My sister went inside because I was too sick to move. She spent $71 just on soup ingredients. When I went to make the soup the next day, almost everything was outdated or spoiled: Butternut squash turning black Cauliflower already browning Wilted broccoli medley Diced turnips and artichoke hearts no good and to make it worse -- none of it was marked as "Manager's Special", which usually signals produce that's close to expiration. It was just sitting on the shelves like everything was fresh. We ALWAYS check dates and appearance first, but my sister was rushing because I was so sick. She didn't feel like driving back to return it, so the spoiled produce went straight into the garbage. Shame on the produce staff for not doing their job. That is unacceptable. Customers should not have to throw their money in the trash, especially when buying food out of necessity. Thankfully, the other items she bought were usable. I made a soup with a small stir fry veggie mix, chopped garlic, ginger paste, chicken bone broth, and my seared chicken legs I already had at home. The soup came out so good -- and I actually feel so much better today. I'll add a picture of the soup when I warm some up later.
