Tax is our actual hero. Our 70 lb rescue dog, Loki, has had issues with grooming since we adopted him. He had some trauma with nail clipping and being washed/dried in general. No matter where we went or if we tried to do it ourselves, it would never end up successful. We would get calls midway to come pick him up or he would shake so tremendously he would nearly pass out (if he had to wait even for 5 minutes, forget about it--he would do anything to escape). This was one of the biggest stressors of our dog-parenting life. Then, we moved to Fountain Valley and found Tax (cue heavenly music). Tax took his time with Loki to get him acclimated to the grooming experience. He went at his pace, but also knew the importance of pushing through (when possible) so that Loki could get over his grooming fears in a positive manner. After our first grooming session, I was SHOCKED when Tax said, "He did great!" I truly think Loki knows he is safe with Tax. Fast forward several months later, we take Loki in once a month, and our big guy CHARGES INTO the building straight to Tax. No more shaking, no more half-done groom jobs, no more anxiety. When I say Tax changed our lives for the better, I am not being dramatic. If he retires, I think I'll crash out. Thank you so much for working with us and our baby so patiently. He is often misunderstood, so when people take the time to learn him and go at his pace, it means the world to us. Forever grateful. read more

I've brought my cat here a few times for a shave @ bath, everything seemed fine at first. I was a little wary about the amount of barking dogs and the length of time I had to leave her there, but she's been to the vet before so is somewhat used to it. This last time, however was the deal breaker. I arrive to pick her up after leaving her there from 8am-2pm and he's blasting metal music. Not only that but his own giant dogs are walking freely in the room. He said she was nervous this time (duh you think??!!) . I paid him and left, never again to return there. This guy Tax was absolutely clueless. Unless your cat is used to loud music and dogs all up in their face I don't recommend this place at all. read more

If you love your dog don't bring him here. We took our dog and he ended up with the worst haircut ever. Asked for a trim and clean up picked him up with an uneven shave everywhere, eyebrows, whiskers with different hair lengths. Who does that someone who doesn't know what they are doing or care about the animal. Our dog was unrecognizable and not the King Charles Cavalier look he was born with and went in with. Called left message, of course no return call. My daughter picked him up and came home in tears. Update said he would give us money back set time and place to meet he was a no show. Ended up fining a Dispute with credit card company. read more

My dog, Max, is blind from cataracts. We rescued him this way when he was 2 years old. His blindness has caused some behavioral issues so it was so hard to find a groomer I trusted Max with. Tax is amazing and always says how good Max is. I first sent Max with a muzzle because he is sensitive to being handled in certain ways due to his blindness. We just rescued Loki from OC Animal Care last week and tried to take him to get a cut and bath that same day somewhere else - unfortunately, they couldn't get the job done. Turned out to be a blessing in disguise because it led us to Tax at Critter Clippers. We were a walk-in over the weekend after taking him to the vet. He was super busy but so friendly, even after Loki growled and tried to bite him. He said he's dealt with lots of dogs, plenty who've done worse, and it didn't even phase him. It definitely shows his experience because we picked up a completely different looking dog! Tax even added a cute little bow onto his collar. I recently moved nearby and was a looking for a good place for my shiba inu to get her baths. I was glad I found Critter Clippers through Yelp. I dropped her off on a weekday morning and she was done within two hours. She was super clean and happy. It was very affordable and they even gave her some pretty bows. My dog is a GIANT baby. He loves anyone and everyone, but when it comes to getting his nails done, he turns into a complete lunatic. He makes ridiculous noises like he's getting beaten to death and flails like crazy. Add in to the equation that he's a pit bull, and every groomer he's been to gets terrified. I know Rex would never bite anyone, but they don't, which I totally understand, but all the muzzling and 5 people holding him and all of that don't help his fear. Critter Clipper gets it. They understand Rex, they understand my fears, and they just generally understand dogs. Rex has been here twice, the first time, it took two people, compared to the usual 5 plus a tranquilizer. He was in and out within 20 or 30 minutes, even with his multiple escapes. The second time, it was just one groomer doing his nails. The groomer has learned Rex's behavior the first time and knew Rex wasn't going to bite him, so he didn't back down. He was able to get his nails cut and ground down in 15 or so minutes. Rex was less scared this time than the last and Tax, the groomer, says within a few trips of learning he's not going to get hurt and he's not going to scare anyone off with the craziness, Rex should be back to normal. I'm BEYOND thrilled and impressed with this place, as well as Tax. The ONLY, and I mean only, negative thing I could even possibly say is that this place isn't as aesthetically pleasing as some groomers I've been to. It's clean, safe, sanitary, well-priced, and highly-effective, so it's well worth the trade. I guess my point is, if you're used to "doggy spas" where everything is pink and fluffy and glittery, don't let the lack of flash fool you. We randomly found this place for our dog, Brian, and can't be happier with them! Brian is a low maintenance dog and we are basically just too busy/lazy to wash him as much as he needs to keep his dog smell away, and get his nails clipped... it is only $20 here for the basic wash and that is a steal in our eyes to avoid smelly towels and wet dog smell all day in our home. They are very kind to Brian and always get him in last minute when we call. I really also appreciated the extra care they give him, for example last year he had horrible hot spots due to fleas and they took it upon themselves to put bitter stuff on his spots so he wouldn't bite them, etc. I saw last time they now accept credit cards which is even better! read more

I have a fancy dog (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) and she is my baby. In the past 4 years I have taken her to 4 different groomers. I finally found my groomer!!!! Critter Clipper is the only place where she doesn't come out scared and pulling me out the door. She loves Rhonda and Rhonda does fabulous job with her. Each time I have asked her to cut my dog's hair really short, which isn't typical. Cavaliers have A LOT of hair and she comes out looking fabulously cute. The atmosphere is friendly, homey, and laid back. They also have great products for sale like flea treatments and teeth care products. BEST PLACE EVER!!!! read more

Too bad this place has to gone downhill - last time they couldn't find my appointment and were much less staffed, and the staff that was there was a young guy who didn't seem as experienced. It took quite a long time, and my dog's nails weren't as neat. It seemed like they weren't dremel-ed like the last time. She's a short coat wash and wear dog, so grooming shouldn't be too difficult. Me and my puppy love this place. They treat me and my dog very well always have appointments even if they aren't necessary. They also have treats for the dogs after they are groomed and that's a plus for the dog. They trim the dogs nails with a grinder which I recommend since the nails aren't as sharp as when used with clippers. read more

We came to Critter Clipper from using your usual big dog groomer and boy, there is a HUGE difference! Our dog happily goes in and comes out - no fighting or being stubborn. The staff is really nice and they do a great job - even give our pups a bandana! The nails are the best as they clip and grind so they are smooth and don't scratch us. Our dog Chucky is a 9 pound terror to all dog groomers. He has been banned from Petco's and Petsmart's all over Orange County, San Diego County and even one Petsmart in Phoenix. We tried a bunch of other dog groomers in Orange County as well but after twenty minutes of an unsuccessful attempt at cutting Chucky's hair, we would receive a phone call to pick Chucky up because they couldn't even touch him. Chucky has been called "evil" and even "viscious." He is the most feared 9 pound terrier mix in all of the OC. :) We came across Tax and Critter Clipper just by chance. Lucky for us Tax was not only able to groom Chucky but also clipped his nails! No one could even touch Chucky and somehow Tax has solved our problems. We want to give Tax and Critter Clipper our highest possible recommendation especially if you have a dog that is "difficult" or "anxious." They know how to handle dogs and treat them well. We have been going to Critter Clipper and Tax for the past year or so and they always have openings for Chucky when we call. This is the only place we will bring Chucky not because no one else will take him but because Critter Clipper does an outstanding job! read more

I found these guys on yelp looked the reviews which were amazing btw so I gave them a shot, it was by far the best grooming experience my little guy has ever had!! Let me just say that my dog has NEVER happily walked into a groomer's or vet's but she sure does here! We're on a two week schedule for baths due to allergies and have been here 4-5 times already. My dog loves Tracy and her calming voice and ways. My dog has Cushings disease so has to urinate frequently; Tracy was made aware of this early on and does not keep her a minute longer than necessary so I can pick my dog up. I have taken my dog to other groomers over the years and they've kept her for HOURS, not even having gotten to her for hours, needless to say. I switched to this groomer after a bad experience at another one in Huntington Beach. Before, they would see the groomer and try and run for the door. When we get to Critter Clipper, the dogs jump out of the car, run for the door and walk to the back area and right to the cage, tails wagging the whole time. i have been to at least 5 different groomers within the huntington beach and fountain valley area. each one had their perks, but all seemed to have problems with their groomers. my dog has been cut on the side of the face more than once and has had weird cuts with leaving her long eyelashes, long ears, and uneven cuts to the top of her head. the other thing that i was not happy with other shops, was that the owner never groomed the dogs. at critter clipper, i can honestly say that not only does the owner groom the dogs, but he pays attention to what you want for your animal and does not hire anyone from outside. the groomer is family owned and i have never had any complaints as to how they groom my dog. he is very caring and gentle with the animals and knows his job well. i have already told many of my friends, who are now clients of his, to go to critter clipper for their animals grooming needs. read more
