Though expensive, we have had nothing but good experiences keeping our dogs with them until most recently. One of our dogs, a very social and well behaved West Highland terrier, was banned from spending any time with other dogs on the 2nd day of a 7-day stay after bitting another dog. He spent 6 out of the 7 days of our trip either in the kennel or, for some reason, the hallway outside the kennel while our other dog was in the kennel--a very strange decision given that he's great with our other dog. Why not have them in the same space? Though my Westie has never shown signs of violence or aggressiveness before, I realize the need for them to be careful and protect the other dogs, but no one at American Pet Resort contacted us to tell us what had occurred. We learned after looking at the online cameras. There we saw our Westie confined to his kennel while all the other dogs, including our second dog, were playing outside. Why didn't someone from the kennel call us to let us know? That kind of proactive communication is something I expect. I was none too pleased to find out what happened only after having to make a call to find out why our Westie was left alone in his kennel during outside time. While away, I made a call suggesting the staff place my Westie and my second dog in a separate outdoor space with one another. The staff member I spoke to said they would do so, but they only did so once. Our Westie spent the next 5 days out of our 7 day trip in either in his kennel or the hallway (?) just outside of the kennel, and has been banned from outdoor play with other dogs during future visits. We will make sure that there will be no future visits.

I dipped out after waiting around 20 minutes to be sure they hadn't forgotten about us. The receptionist said she would check on the doctor to see. Waited another 10 minutes in the room with zero communication or explanation for the wait before finally walking out. 7 minutes later we get a call asking if we were still here. I explained that we waited 30 minutes before giving up. The caller tried to correct me and say that it was only 25 minutes (As if we weren't sitting in the hot exam room acutely aware of the time). The rudeness of being completely unaware and argumentative of how long we waited was the icing on the cake. This visit was as much about us getting to know them as them getting to know us, and no thanks. Our time is valuable too.

Someone referred us here and they noticed what a sluggish terrier he is and opted to do blood work. Low and behold, he had zero thyroid function. The underlying cause of all his medical issues. Someone finally took the time to listen to what I was saying and look at his behavior. The staff her is also wonderful. Always helpful, we never have a long wait in the waiting room; nor do they place us in a room only to sit for hours. I can't say enough about this wonderful group of doctors and vet techs. I highly recommend them!

A good friend, who lives in North Carolina (NC), recommended Chocowinity Pet Resort and Day Camp as she knows the manager, Miss Sue. I took a trip down to visit my friend and to tour the Pet Resort. The place was immaculate and very well kept. The location is off a main road, but secluded enough to not have a lot of car traffic. Compared to the kennels in PA, this place was perfect with huge runs - even for small dogs; play/common areas outside that were fenced in; staff that were so nice and accommodating, even though I was trying to book during a prime vacation time of year. I really couldn't have asked for a better place to leave my fur babies and feel that they would be safe and well looked after. They even took the time to send me pics of them while I was away - how caring is that!! So yes, I drove all the way from PA to NC to kennel my dogs with Chocowinity Pet Resort and Day Camp and would do it again in a heartbeat.
