This is HANDS DOWN the best eye care I have ever received in my life. I think I have found my "forever home" when it comes to my eye health. To start, making an appointment during these covid times was super easy. As a new patient, I called in, was scheduled and sent paperwork immediately to complete online. Ann-Marie was lovely on the phone and I already knew I was walking in to something good. Day of my appointment arrives and I pull out front and give them a call. They asked me a covid questionnaire and then walked me to the back. The office is surprisingly big and decorated in such a modern, clean way. Outside of each room was a sign flipped to indicate clean between use. I saw Dr. Drew that day who was absolutely phenonmenal. He gave me a back story on the practice (the Drs. Doyle are married!), how they are family-owned and operated, and told me his number one goal of each appointment: for the patient to walk away having learned something. The exam was thorough, he explained my astigmatism to me, and even gave me information sheets to take home. As someone who got Lasik eye surgery a few years ago, it was important for me to understand how my eyes have progressed since. I ended up choosing to get glasses that day to help with computer-related reading. They had a great selection to choose from - you explain to the staff what type of style you are looking for and they pull five or so pairs that fit that description. All in all, such a wonderful five-star experience. I highly recommend this practice to anyone, especially those who are looking to get Lasik or have already gotten it with TLC. Have you noticed recently how medical practices, of all kinds, are starting to resemble 'manufacturing assembly lines': patients enter, sign-in, are whisked off to a technician for testing/assessment, whisked off to another technician for more evaluation where a 'tentative' outcome is proposed, then the patient is handed off to the Doctor (the medical profession), who opines and summarizes the visit, and likely suggests a possible solution or further medical referral? The Doctor's direct participation in the process is often quite limited. The Health Insurance Industry is the cause of this while it seeks to reduce costs through perceived 'operating efficiency' on the health provider's part. The outcome, of course, is that the patient is not always the beneficiary of this 'enhanced' medical delivery system. I know because I encountered such a situation about a year ago. Vowing to avoid by all means such a medical delivery system again (if possible), I located an outstanding eye examination practice: Crofton Family Eye Care. This practice is operated by married professionals both of whom are Doctors of Optometry. The Doctor with whom I met took dedicated time to thoroughly examine my eyes while also testing for disease, such as glaucoma and macular degeneration. My eyesight is very precious to me; as a child I was injured and subsequently operated on. I only state this because impaired vision is a tremendous handicap for any individual of any age. After expressing my needs and wishes regarding my eyesight, it was agreed that I would move from trifocals to separate glasses individually addressing distance vision and reading needs. The practice also carries lines of frames with expert assistance as to style AND FIT. (Please see my earlier review of eye glass frames that I submitted a few years ago--it is still relevant). In conclusion, I highly recommend that if you are truly in need of an excellent eye examination practice, consider Crofton Family Eye Care. After a horrific experience with another eye doctor near by I sought out something better.. Based on yelp reviews and health grade scores I ended up at Crofton Family Eyecare and I have been nothing but happy so far. The front office staff are super nice and accommodating every time I come in and the doctor really took her time to talk to me about eye care and any concerns I had. The ordering glasses process was quick and easy. They have a decent variety of frames though I do wish it was a little larger. The clearance section is nice if your trying to save money but you still want to get designer frames. The staff was even nice enough to re order my glasses when they came in and weren't quite what I expected them to be. This most recent visit I decided to also get contacts and since I've never worn them i had to do a special contact appointment. During that time they were super helpful and patient as I struggled to get the contacts in and out. The young lady was also very encouraging and helpful when I was getting frustrated that I didn't get it the first few (10) times! Dr. Greiss is super nice, helpful, informative and patent! I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Doyle and the staff of Crofton Family Eye Care. I am a new patient and checked them out for the first time a few months ago. Dr. Doyle gave me the most thorough eye exam I've ever received. She was naturally calm and welcoming, and answered all of my questions. The gentleman who fitted me for frames was kind and definitely not "pushy" like some places tend to be. I came back to pick up my glasses about a week later and had similar great service. Even better... another couple of weeks went by and I got a check for $30 in the mail from Dr. Doyle with a note saying I'd been overcharged for my portion of the lenses that insurance didn't pay for. Let me first start off by saying I have been wearing glasses for the past four years. I am a Network Engineer and I am in front of a computer a lot. My eyes are terrible and I have an astigmatism in the left eye which makes getting an accurate prescription challenging at best. I have tried chain optometrists and I found that they try to move you along like cattle. The faster they are with you the more people they can get through in a day. They would never take the time to verify my prescription was right instead rushing me around only to have to make return visits to re check the prescription or get the order corrected because they ordered two of the same pair of glasses etc...Nightmarish experiences... With Crofton Family Eye Care my experience was much improved! It was night and day! The receptionists were kind and knowledgeable of my insurance needs and Dr. Klonsky was extremely patient and knowledgeable about my eyes! He slowly took his time with the examination. He explained in great detail why he prescribed a certain lense or contact. Last but not least they were fast and efficient each time I was in the office I never set in the waiting room longer than 10-15 minutes! Used this practice for eye exams and for buying frames and lenses for some years. Pleasant, competent staff. But had a shockingly bad experience recently and can no longer recommend. I note the response from Crofton Family Eye Care's "Nina D." is, well, erroneous. Neither I nor my family ever sought or received "urgent" after-hours eyecare from your establishment. Curious that you make such a claim. Wish I had a persuasive reason to be grateful and forgiving about your bad business practice. A bit weird this eyeglasses store-customer relationship deteriorated so precipitously and, sad to say, completely. What in heaven's name is going on over there? I just read Stephanie from Baltimore's review and I agree with everything she said. Dr. Drew was laid back and welcoming. He looked into my eyeballs and could tell what type of lifestyle I was living! Who would know that you could see my resting heart rate and know that I was a frequent runner by looking at my eyes?!?!? Starting out I should have realized that this business was all about price not value. The intake person was overly friendly,asking to many personal questions. I picked up on this right away. What I do for a living is none of their business. The Doctor was super nice. She fail to explain to me that there would be a difference in the prescription lens that might not correct my vision in both eyes equally (do to a cataract that was forming in one eye.) After waiting for one month for my glasses, they just gave me the glasses and did not check them on me to see if they were correctly prescribed. I return to see the Doctor about the problem. She was supper nice, and re examined my eyes with the glasses on. She then explained why I was having the problem and gave me a referral for future service to another Doctor. She informed the staff that there would be no charge for the visit. This is where the quality of service ends. The woman who does the billing lied from the very first visit and told me my insurance did not pay anything toward the visit. That I had to pay the entire cost of the glasses ( used my own frames, not theirs) . Later found out that they did bill the insurance and were paid the allotted amount. I was charge over $600, for the glasses. She billed me for the follow up visit. Which she was told not to do. I do not recommend this business to anyone, The three staff members I encountered were the worst. Don't know what those Wednesday meetings are about, but id suggest to anyone, " don't use this business, It's out to rip you off".Now they are billing me for an Additional $137.75. Hi, I am going to be honest in my review and accept all accountability on my part but def. think that this deserves to be noted. I booked an appointment with this office because of the reviews on Yelp. I booked during lunch, and unfortunately missed my appointment due to a work emergency, very much my fault. I called back to reschedule in good faith, wanting to give them my services for my error in wasting not attending and was treated like a 'black sheep'. The woman on the phone acted as if she didn't want to deal with me, put me on hold (which clearly was needed) and then told me I would be charged $25 for a no-show fee. For a missed optometrist appointment? I've never heard of such. I am sure they are very nice people, but things do come up and without that policy being stated on their site or upfront, I think it is ridiculous to put that on people with no warning. Luckily, I can easily find another eye doctor to visit but please be careful when booking. There is no room for error with these people. read more

I'll put the summary at the top to get to the point... you can't go wrong with Crofton Family Eye Care. Review Details: Reservation was made over the phone. The person taking my details was polite and accommodating. I gave her my insurance information over the phone and she helped me pick a date and time that met my schedule (actually the next day at 8am). She directed me to their website where I was told where to download the new patient form to fill out and bring with me to my appointment (I noticed on the form in a "Please Read" section on the first page the following notice: "I understand that there will be a charge of $25 for any missed appointment unless the office is notified in advance." Just a note of clarity for those that read other reviews of this eye care group). When I arrived, before I even entered the front door, I was greeted by Crofton Family Eye Care (my first name and initial of last name was written on a dry erase board welcoming me, along with those of the other patients for the day). I nice touch which brought a smile to my face as I walked in. I checked in and was brought back to the initial exam room within 5 minutes. There was no up-sell on the extra "macular" eye test, and I was told that I could get it if I wanted but that my insurance wouldn't cover the extra cost. After that I went to meet with the optometrist, who explained everything that he did and was very nice. He even showed me which was my dominant eye when I asked him about that. There was no up-sell attempts by anyone within the practice, which was a pleasant change from my prior experiences at the other chain based eye care companies. I would highly recommend Crofton Family Eye Care to anyone that appreciates a pleasant experience getting their eyes tested. I went in here with my mother to get her glasses repaired. My mother decided that instead of getting them repaired, she would just order a whole new chassis. I've never met an eye glad shop that didn't want to make a sale more than these people. The curmudgeonly old woman at the front was clearly too put out to look up my mother's insurance information. Think "Number One". When she finally stopped grousing, and looked up my mother's insurance info, she confirmed she wasn't on her network. Which is when the other sales woman decided to "school me" (yes, those were her EXACT words) on how insurance works. That's fine. Because she's now been schooled on how business, competition, and online reviews work. I took my mother to my regular shop. I've been a patient of Dr. Klonsky at Crofton Family Eye Care for over 20 years and find him to be one of the best doctors - of any kind - that I've ever seen. He's professional, friendly, caring, and perhaps most importantly, knows his stuff! He offers the newest technology with trained staff that explain exactly what is being done. He's extremely patient, providing detailed and easily understandable answers to as many questions I've ever asked. The glasses I've gotten there are top-notch and I've received good advice on what will and won't work well for me. His staff follows his lead as they are also knowledgeable and friendly. I really can't recommend this practice highly enough and hope that my 20+ years of loyalty is in and of itself a testimony of it's quality. After moving out of the city I decided to try a closer eye doctor and not return to my original place. When I walked in I was seen right away and the staff who did the prescreening was great. Dr. Klonsky was good as well. When I went to order my contacts I was told a price that was a lot more than what I had payed at my last eye doctor. I told them this, and one staff member said they could match the price, but that I should have my old prescription faxed over. I did, and when I called to check I was told that they were sticking with the original price they told me. I decided to save myself some money and make the drive back to my original eye doctor. My original eye doctor ordered my contacts for even less than I payed last time and saved me $125 I'm not sure why Crofton was charging so much. I would have thought that an eye doctor in a nice part of the city would cost more than one in Crofton, but aside from the price I would recommend using them. I would just make sure to shop around for prices before ordering through them. read more
