I've been coming here for years to get my eyes checked. The place is clean and the staff are courteous. There's a good selection of glasses on display to try on. The doctors are now on screen instead of in person but it's been a good local place to still come to. read more

I've been coming to this location for a few years now, never impressed by the customer service. It seems as though they scout for the rudest people who hate their job. But I'm a glutton for punishment so I keep going back. Mostly because it's close to home and easy to schedule. Today iced the cake when I arrived for both mine and my son's appointment. There was no doctor in and we were advised it would be telehealth... we were taken to the back to begin the process and the man says, "It's been a long time since I've used these machines and they've changed a lot, but I will see if I can figure it out." I beg your pardon? Needless to say he fumbled around the computer and said, "Yeah, I can't do this. You will need to reschedule." I certainly will- somewhere else! read more

This place is terrible, do not go here. 1. My glasses came in and no one let me know. How long yall gonna let them sit there w/o informing the customer? 2. Random weekday at 10:20-11:30 and the store was locked w/ an employee inside assisting a customer. They opened it for me but why?? 3. Store says it closes at 7pm but I went at 6pm and they were closed. 4. My eye appt was behind by 30mins. Then they took someone else who had not been waiting long, meaning I'd have to wait another 20mins on top of the 30 and not including the time for my actual appt. 5. They don't answer their phone 6. Employees can have attitude Seriously though, I've tried to pick my glasses up twice and both times they were closed when supposed to be open. Sherri was unprofessional and REFUSED to assist me as soon as I walked in at 6:24 pm. She showed favoritism toward Caucasian people. She let one man walk out WITHOUT paying for his wife's lenses. She allowed gan elderly Caucasian woman to take advantage of the 100 policy even though her 100 days had been expired, and all I needed was the lenses (from Visionworks) popped out of the old frames and into the working frames. NO ONE OF COLOR should EVER be subjected to rude, offensive language and refusal of service. read more

I was told that my appointment would only be a $10 copay with my out-of-network insurance. I agreed to those terms. I went through what I thought was a routine eye exam and they gave me a bill for $105, claiming I had "extra services" that were not included. At no point during the hour I was in the office did they make it known, what was part of my routine exam and what was "extra". Be careful using this location, they will tell you one thing to keep you in the door and then apply unexpected charges after the fact. I tried to reach out to customer service and was ignored. Extremely disappointed that a company of this size needs to swindle customers to make money. read more

My wife and family have been customers at this location for years. Our insurance company allows us to choose between quite a few eye doctor locations in the area, so we have always chosen to get our glasses from here. The service has always great, the staff friendly and the response receiving our final product was always on time. My daughter, wife and myself were all scheduled to get our eyes examined after a little over 2 years since our last appointment. What in the world has happened to this place since! We understand we are in a pandemic, but that is no excuse for poor service. 1. Inattentive to customers when they come into the shop. And cold responses when asked a question. We didn't have to choose your services! 2. Almost a month has gone by and my wife's previous glasses from them to be modified are still not ready. 3. No follow up calls from them, and no one answers the phone when you call for an update. There is no option to leave a voice mail. 4. My wife finally went up there to check on the status, she was not even acknowledged while waiting, and when she was finally addressed the sales person was sarcastic. She was told it usually takes two weeks. 5. The second time she had to make an appointment just to get an update because she still could not reach someone on the phone. Again she was met with rudeness and sarcastic responses. Just to be told the glasses cannot be found. She is still waiting since her November 7th appointment. I am sooo glad I cancelled my appointment that I had scheduled the same day. Our daughter had her appointment the week before with no problem. Was it because she bought their expensive glasses and my wife did not? I suggest that This Visionworks location work on their customer service, especially during this time when it's the most important aspect of business that will keep you in business. read more

This is the most unprofessional business I have dealt with. It doesn't deserve the one star I gave. I have made two appointments for an eye exam and both times they have canceled. I had a 9:00 am appointment and they called me at 8:30 stating the doctor is not in. I guess the doctor does not like working on Saturdays as he has canceled both Saturday appointments. Tried to call the other day to see if my prescription was still good. I got hung up on by the automated phone system three times before finally having to drive here, just to find out my prescription wasn't even active. Could I renew it with an eye exam? Yes. Am I going to do that? No. This place was the worst even when I got my exam. My appointment ran way over the time I was scheduled for and I didn't even meet the doctor. They didn't have a doctor on-site, so I paid $69+ just to wait forever to see someone on a screen. But at that point it was too late to turn back. The phone system not allowing me to even get through to talk to someone was the last straw. read more

I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I booked an appt for an eye exam with contacts. After filling out the initial medical forms I asked how much the appt and was told $64. I did the exam. After when I went to pay they told me it was $119. I asked why when I was told it was $64. They refused to honor the price. I called the cops, they came and said there was nothing they could do. I said ok I'd pay the full price (as I'm traveling to Aruba which I told them when I came in). The Manager Brooks refused to give me my prescription even if I paid. Needless to say I have complained to National and will never go back. read more

I have to admit that I was nervous going here due to all the bad reviews but I actually had a pleasant experience. I wanted to go to a local, more privatized eye doctor rather than a "retail" eye doctor. However, after calling several practices and finding out that they didn't accept my insurance, I called my insurance company to see who they do accept with the plan that I have. The insurance company recommended Visionworks and immediately I became upset but I decided to look at the bright side...there's a location in Waugh Chapel with plenty of food and shopping options after my appointment. Making the appointment was hassle free and it was easy getting checked in. All the encounters that I had with the staff were great. I didn't have any issues. I thought Dr. Woody was really nice and got to the point. She answered any questions that I had and recommended some eye drops for my sometimes burning eyes (dry eyes, apparently). The only issues I had is that after my eye exam and seeing the doctor, I had to wait a while to be checked out. Also, I just wish glasses weren't so pricey. I'm going to attempt to order my glasses online. If that's what you choose to do, don't forget to ask the optician for your PD as it's not included on your prescription. Overall, I had a pretty good experience and will return for my next exam as long as I don't experience any serious eye issues. read more

I visited Vision Works today for the first time. From the time I entered until the time I left, I received great customer service. The staff were friendly and helpful. They were also patient with me when I couldn't decided which glasses to get out of the 7 I had on my tray. When I narrowed it down to 2, they guy that fitted me even helped me out to decide and had such a fun spirit. He explained what my insurance covered and how much I would pay out of pocket, so I wasn't confused about the payment. As this is the first time I've needed to buy glasses. I highly recommend them. I came here to co-sign every single one of these terrible reviews. I wish I would've NEVER set foot in this place. I don't want to go into too much detail about my experience, but just want to warn others. The customer service associates in this store are absolutely horrible. They are very condescending and dismissive if you question ANYTHING after they've run your insurance and credit card! Also, the scheduling is horrible. I had an appointment at 10:30 for an exam and glasses and didn't leave out until 1pm! I wish I would've checked Yelp prior to purchasing! This staff needs advanced customer service and diversity training!!! They definitely don't know how to interact with majority of their customers. read more

The bad reviews don't make any sense to me. One thing that seems to be consistent is that they probably are understaffed. Nevertheless, I received excellent customer service. I wasn't pressured or anything of the sort. I believe that those with a negative experience are most likely to post a review than those with a positive. I am at Visionworks 1402 South Main Chapel Way Suite 114 Gambrills Maryland . I ordered two pairs of prescription eye glasses November 30, 2021. I received zero update or notification on the status of my order. I tried calling several times, but was disconnected. Finally I got through and was told my glasses were in. Today no one in the store is able to locate my glasses. $639.00. Worth and no one can find them. Now... the customer service is horrific, rude, unprofessional . I was talked to like I was a child when I said I wanted a refund. Then left sitting in a chair completely ignored. No one acted as if me...the customer, is important. After my last review of Visionworks Bowie the General Manager called me and apologized and asked that they could try again. So we drove all the way to Crofton hoping for a better experience. What a bunch of baloney. My husband's appointment was at 11.30 and I was at 12.15. It's 12:21, my husband still has two people in front of him and I have three. So the Doc had taken an average of 30mins on each person because apparently she is so thorough well if they know that give her the appropriate amount of time, and set appointments accordingly. So... yet again no eye test done. My husband has decided to wait... LOL, I've left him there and gone to get the other tasks of the day done. I've edited this to add that my husband finally got out of there at 1:30pm. This was just an eye test, he got his prescription and ran. read more

Always have a good experience inside, but my one complaint is to fix your hours online. I called and looked online and they both said it was open until 7pm but we got there at 6pm to pick up my glasses but they were closed. If your going to be closed the make sure your robot amelia says that y'all are close and your hours online. read more

Timothy Corbin, Dr. Friendman and all of the vision Works staff located at the Crofton location were exceptional. I arrived on time and was seen right away. The prices were great with 60% off frames. Timothy was able to calculate my price for contact lenses with frames and without frames. Awesome customer service. Staff was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and professional. Highly recommended. I recently went to this site since the one in Brandywine was still closed. Upon entering the facility - the receptionist was pleasant. She had another customer - I decided to look at the various frames since I was due a new prescription. There was another tech - I can't recall her name. However, she decided to yell across the room that I was not to touch the frames and place them back into the holder. I was surprised because there was no head's up from either. Moving forward -- in the pre-registering--all of my necessary information was provided (I.e. address, employment and insurance information and forwarded the night before my scheduled appointment. The other rep - (the one that yelled across the room) - comes up and goes into the computer. She asked me what reason I was there - "Annual check-up and new prescription I responded. Well she then replies - "You are only eligible for an eye exam". I turned and responded - Huh? What do you mean I'm only eligible for an eye exam? I have FEDVIP. Well you can only get an eye exam she stated. With that statement - she gave me this look and the tone of her voice was very condenscending- I had to ask her who she thought she was talking to in the manner and looking at me crazy. She proceeded to say all awhile checking the computer. Apparently, her administrative skills were NIL to NONE. First off - all the required information was forwarded. The fool didn't take the time to fully read the paperwork THEY sent to me. Smh. With that - I was told I would receive my prescription 7-10 business days. With the quarantine - I understand a delay. I had to call and see if my prescription came in - no one attempted to call at all. I left a vm asking for a return call. Well, I finally get through to ask the status of the glasses. The young lady who answered - asked me to hold - she then came back and said - "Well I have customers and I can't check". Damn - that should have been the first thing to ask- Could you hold while I assist a customer that is here at my desk"? Incompetent to say the least. I received my glasses by UPS - fortunately for me the driver knows our last name. The address they had placed onto the box was my phone number and the second line of the address was incomplete. The glasses were bubble wrapped with no accessory in my glass case - i.e. glass cloth. Need to do better!!!! I will NEVER go back to WAUGH CHAPEL again. read more

I called based on the one single review on Angie's List which gave the business good marks. I'm thinking that might have been a phoney review because my experience today was so bad in so many ways. Yesterday, when I called to make the appointment, I was given a quote of "$45 for the eye exam, and an additional $39 for the contact lens exam" - their special introductory offer. I asked several times for her to repeat this, and wrote it down. At the end of today's visit (TWO HOURS after I entered the front door!) I was told by the woman who rang up my bill that she has no idea why someone would have said such a thing, they have no special offers going on at all, and that the charge for the exam is $54 and the charge for contacts $59. So instead of the $85 that I was quoted yesterday I was charged $114 instead. She looked irritated that I even asked about this. It took two full hours, from the time I walked in the door, till I walked out with no prescription and no trial lenses even, yet having spent $114, to complete today's appointment. There were more employees than customers - I counted eight - and almost all of them were sitting together talking - gossiping I should say - loudly - saying things about other employees that I really didn't feel like hearing and as a customer I shouldn't have had to. Eight employees and yet I had to wait for about an hour to see the optometrist, and then another half hour "trying out lenses" which were not my prescription and immediately felt awful while the optometrist saw another patient. They didn't have in stock lenses to even try out, so the optometrist said she has no idea what my prescription is yet. She said I will most likely have to wait 10 business days (in other words two weeks) for them to get a couple pair of trial lenses in my "possible" size and prescription just to try out. Which she has no idea whether or not they'll fit or correct my vision. I've been wearing the same prescription for the last 30 years. I wish my optometrist hadn't retired. I am worried that I will have lost two hours of my day and $114 for nothing because I do not trust that I will get a simple pair of contact lenses - should be a no-brainer but seems instead to have all kinds of incompetence and hidden agendas (for pushing a different more expensive type or who knows what else - I do not trust this place at all as you can tell.) A woman came in while I was there, with her son, to pick up the glasses that she was told by a nearby store had been shipped over here. She drove to the store, with her son, taking him out of school to do so, to discover that the glasses had in fact not been driven over as she was told. I recommend finding somewhere else to get your glasses or contacts. This place just opened and already seems to be a total mess. I'm nervous about writing my experience because, as I say, I still don't have my contacts or a prescription that I could use to purchase contacts online -- and I am nervous about recriminations from them for giving a bad review. I've had the same experience as others here - gossiping staff, some playing with their phones, and it seemed only one person knew how to check insurance coverage. The employees looked annoyed when I came in for my appointment, and I wasn't greeted any of the 3 times I went in there. While I was waiting for my first appointment, 2 people came in with issues with their glasses - either wrong or simply not done when they said they would be. My husband had his glasses done incorrectly TWICE, so maybe I should have taken that as a sign? When I finally GOT to see the optometrist, I found her to be arrogant and condescending. Usually there is some interaction during the exam to qualitatively assess image quality, but she had me read the eye chart and basically used the prescription the tech measured. I've been wearing the prescription I have for over 10 years, contacts for over 20 years, so I'm pretty sure I don't need to be talked to like a 5 year old about whether or not I used my eye drops as prescribed for an infection in one eye, or about if I know the difference between rewetting drops for contacts or moisture drops for non-contacts. I ordered my year's worth of contacts (God willing, they'll come in), and then I'm on the hunt again for another eye doctor. We recently moved to the area and were excited when this store opened, but no dice. read more

Their automated operator does not work properly, I have provided proof and have asked the Waugh Chappel Store to have this issue fixed and 3 weeks later the exact same problem exists....30 and 40 minute wait times and in the end you end up hanging up because they never respond. Poor customer service. If i can give zero stars i would. I came in and waited around for about 10min before someone spoke to me or helped me. I was told that I have to make an appointment which was strange but i made it for the following day. Once again, I waited for 5-10min before someone acknowledged me. The people on the main floor were not friendly. I understand there were other customers but a simple acknowledgement, "hello, someone will be with you shortly" would go a long way. Instead no one said anything. When someone finally did come over, she just said what's your name and handed me some forms. I had to give her my insurance card since she didn't ask for it, but then I was told to wait. After making an appointment, I waited over 40min to be seen. I had to remove my contacts and went to wash my hands but there was no soap. The optometrist finished my exam and handed my forms to a woman in the front. She put them down and continued to check the mail. So I waited again until someone else took my forms. Then they started talking about the optometrist in a gossiping manner which was just unprofessional. Not to mention that I ended up paying close to $400 for lenses and contacts when I had insurance so I now have to check if they overcharged me (pretty sure they did). Then I get a call to come back for my lenses and to make an appointment for the fitting . I tell them the day and time i will come, and when i get there, I was told that the could be 20min or it could be an hour. What was the point of making an appointment? Nonetheless I came back the next day and the lenses were thicker than what I asked for. The girl that helped me was actually very sweet (the other two were not). She explained that there are several types of lenses and I said I asked for thin lenses- apparently there are thinner lenses that was $300 more which annoyed me but again, nothing I can do there. My issue is the customer service and the poor attitudes of the employees. In total i went there 5 times for an exam and then back & forth to pick up my glasses and then contacts and each time they were unfriendly and unprofessional. read more

I can't say anything positive about this Visionworks location. The sales people are distracted and slow to offer assistance to shoppers. My telephone calls to the office often go unanswered, and the staff have trouble determining if glasses are ready to be picked up. If the optometrist has the glasses in the office, the sales people will not be able to locate them or tell you if they are ready for pick up. After I picked up my glasses I received two additional voice mails telling me my glasses were ready to be picked up... A few of these issues might be forgivable, together they reveal a serious problem with this business. read more

I went in for a 1:00 appointment yesterday (Sunday) and I was really impressed with the service. I think I was expecting the worst because of the terrible reviews but I was greeted when I entered the store, filled out a form, sat and waited for no more than 10 minutes, and was seen by Dr. Friedman. I was extremely nervous because I never had an eye exam before but Dr. Friedman was quick and thorough. After finding out I needed glasses- I was able to browse through a huge selection of different frames! I was never rushed and once I found the pair I liked, a nice lady assisted me. I can't compare this experience with any other since it was my first eye exam and such. I would say that the staff isn't all that personable but they are not rude at all and they all seemed to be doing their job! I was a little bit bummed about needing glasses at first BUT now I just CANNOT wait to pick up my very first pair of glasses! Update: my eye exam was Sunday and my glasses came in later that week on Thursday! I went to pick up my glasses after I got the text letting me know that my glasses were ready for pick up. I appreciate that they are doing what they can during COVID, but not checking customers' temperatures when they arrive (the day I ordered glasses, I asked after I'd been there several minutes if they were taking temps, and they finally took mine --- the day I picked up glasses, my temp was not taken at all) --- not answering their store phone (calls are being routed through customer service), and the website appointment scheduling function is down. My glasses are ok, but this definitely motivates me to see what other retailers accept my insurance: can't reach the store by phone or web, and when I get there, the COVID precautions are lax? Please update the price tags on the frames. It's frustrating to spend 30 minutes picking out frames just to find out they are 40% more than the tagged price when you are at checkout. They ran the wrong insurance, charged me for my exam and come to find out, they put all of my medical information under another person's name and birth date. I'm pretty sure that comingling of medical charts has to be illegal.... I'm not very impressed with this place. February 21, 2022, I went for an eye exam because I was sure my prescription changed. So far good, waiting time was 15 minutes after appointed time. Employees were polite and Dr. F was accommodating with my questions and such. Picked out my frames, while they have a lot, they didn't have low bridge frames that I really wanted. Got measured, paid for order and out the door within an hour with a promise of 7 to 10 days waiting time for my new prescription eyeglasses. Got an email thanking me for my visit and that I can check my order status online. Cool! Here comes the negative. 7 to 10 days, that's Feb 28 to Mar 3. Checked online and date was changed to Mar 7 for my order to be ready. Waited, no email, no text, no call, nothing. Checked online again, and showed that they are delaying my order to ensure that my eyeglasses are perfect. Mar 14, I called customer service and was told I'll get an update in 3 days. Waited again, nothing! Called the store on Mar 17, was redirected to customer service and was told a general manager from the store will call me within 48 hours. Waited, nothing! Finally I left a very angry email on Mar 21st and lo and behold, I get an email on the 22nd saying my eyeglasses are ready and can be picked up! I went and got my eyeglasses and was told they have been there for awhile! WTF! 2 stars for the polite employees and nice pair of eyeglasses but that's it. Visionwork finally lost a repeat customer! I'll get my eyeglasses somewhere else from this day on. read more
