The near east side of the grounds.

A wonderfully delightful B&B experience that should be considered by anyone staying in the Highlands. The rooms are quite spacious and period furnished for this 1820's style mansion but quite modernized and comfortable. The staff and owner are very attentive, conversant and very, very service oriented. Frankly I prefer the relative anonymity of large, luxury hotels but I must admit the the Inn was a trip back in time to when travelers 'along the road' found suitable lodging in homes and with families in a community. The grounds are lovely, the surroundings equally so, the accommodations perfect and the atmosphere of service quite outstanding.

I left this same review under its old name which was Hudson valley hotel and conference center. It's definitely sunset boulevard, past its prime. But you can still tell that it was beautiful in its day. The rooms are surrounded by fields and woods. We arrived at dusk, in the summer, and there were a lot of fire flies. My 5 1/2 year old ran after them. The sounds of crickets and maybe even frogs was loud all night. Our room faced the courtyard, which is definitely nicer than the rooms facing the parking. If you like David Lynch, you will definitely love this hotel.

The following is an exchange I had with presumably the owner/founder of this enterprise - Scott…read moreTillett. It exemplifies the degradation in society at all levels, companies, businesses, corporations, media, culture. What used to be dignified civil society has become a sewer mass of immorality and degradation where the debased and degraded is lauded as the accepted cultural norm. Yes the facilities of this enterprise are just fine - new, "modern" in all its expected respects, but I was speaking of something far greater than all of that. Do not simply accept and go along with what this present culture has become; because it's now the world around you does not mean you cannot stand up and speak out against it. Invariably you'll get the immature and unprofessional response below - in my day businesses would have apologized, perhaps tried to explain in a more conciliatory matter to the prospective patron that sometimes communiques can become more casual when people are feeling more comfortable (although the regular outgoing company newsletter should not and never be) and to apologize for the laxity. In this case, not only was there no such apology, the result is for the person speaking to be ostensibly "removed" from the sphere of discussion, "cancelled" if you will out of the recipient's domain; obviously it was just your particular sensibility that was offended, no real violation of cultural norms had occurred so we don't need to even take you seriously or offer you the civilized respect of a discussion about it. My point is, the more you don't speak out and allow garbage, the more garbage you'll find around you, and it is all around us now, no matter how new and shiny the surface. ---------------------------------------------- Me: Hello could you please refrain from including curse words or ostensibly covered up curse words in your newsletters, e.g., "Perfect for folks who have a short-term project and just need a private space to get $h!t done." Maybe just one generation ago, that would be unheard of in a professional communication sent out by a seemingly professional organization, but the worst forms of degradation are happening in every from of media, corporations and advertising; this is just another symptom and evidence. I really don't want to be bombarded with curse words first thing in the morning when I open up a company information newsletter. Thank you. Owner: Apologies to have offended you, Anita. We will remove you from our email list. Best, Scott

The ceremony was outside and we had a nice cocktail hour afterwards. The food was phenomenal, with passed hors d'oeuvres, mashed potato bar, and a carving station. The bartenders were very nice and accommodating. Some misses during cocktail hour included ice cold broccoli at the mashed potato bar, like they just took it out of the fridge. Some of the passed hors d'oeuvres did not have toothpicks to pick up the items. We adjourned upstairs for the reception and it was beautifully decorated. Our salads were waiting at our seats. The dinner was really good and we were happy with the food and the drinks. Unfortunately, the service was not good at all. I heard that this place shut down their golf course but are trying to open sections back up, so they've mostly been operating as an event space, which likely means they don't have permanent staff. In situations like this, the staff they have are usually doing the very bare minimum, which was noticeable. While the service staff was very nice, most didn't know what they were serving, which was a problem as some in our group had dietary restrictions. At the very least, they should be able to tell you if there's meat or seafood in whatever they're serving. The cocktail hour carving station was held up because the person manning it didn't have a knife. I visited the station three times and only found a steak knife (mixed in with butter knives) on my 3rd round. The servers also did not pass any food to the people standing on line for the bar. They were visiting people thta already were sat, eating food. It would have been nice to have a coconut shrimp while I waited for 10 minutes, for a drink. During the main reception, it took a very long time for them to clear plates and when they brought our first course, they served half of our table and then another person came out with plates and skipped our table, went to a different table, and the other half of ours had to wait until yet another person came out to finish serving. They took our silverware and we had to go to the kitchen to ask for replacements because they were never brought back to us, even when we asked the servers. I accidentally spilled a cup of water that took three of our napkins. I asked for replacement napkins and it took my husband going to the kitchen to to ask but they only had two napkins left and did not even think to offer paper napkins. By the time dessert was served, for at our table left for the evening. When they came around to give cake slices, I asked for one of each, and the server said that they didn't have enough - I pointed out that half of our table was gone so they could definitely allow me a second slice. I'm glad I asked bc the chocolate cake they originally gave me was too sweet for me but the extra vanilla slice was perfect. They left us with our cake and never gave us dessert utensils. We had to scavenge for them, from the place setting of those that left the event. The served coffee with no milk. Several other tables, including ours, had to ask for milk, and it took ridiculously long to get anything. As I said, the wedding was beautiful, the reception was fun, but that was mostly because of the the bride, groom, families, DJ and emcee. The venue, decor, food and grounds, were all great, but the service was so very bad. Hopefully once they've opened on a more regular schedule, they'll have more committed, permanent staff, that will represent the venue better.

My mom also looked at this place for my sweet 16 in 2011. We live nearby, so a pro is that it is close for us. We met Amanda, who was very nice and showed us around the place. It has a beautiful open white room, both upstairs and downstairs. the room upstairs has a beautiful 4 wall bar that is located in the corner, and is used for the open bar. Amanda did a good job answering all of our questions. There were lots of options from having a breakfast/brunch, to a buffet style dinner, or a sit down dinner. We would have went with the sit down option, and they had lots of choices regarding food: A steak, a salmon, and chicken. We did ask what kind of chicken and steak there was and she found out for us. We were also able to pick 4 options of appetizers, and would get salad and pasta, as well as the entree and a cake. I thought it was a beautiful venue with big windows and gorgeous views of the golf course. very pretty. i also like that if we decided to go with this venue, they would offer food tastings so that we know how the food is before booking. restrooms were small with 2-3 stalls, but were very clean. Kudos to Amanda for also following up to my mom's email, where they accommodated a pricing request. Unfortunately, we decided to go with another venue with more food options. However would definitely consider here for another party!
