As someone who absolutely loves small towns, this location was the most ideal for me. This restaurant and inn is located in the cutest house surrounded by lush greenery and a beautiful creek beside it. Although I haven't had the chance to stay at the inn (and definitely plan to come back), I can definitely vouch for the restaurant. I came here with my best friend and we weren't too hungry but felt "peckish", so we decided to try some of their smaller dishes. We tried the roasted mushroom flatbread, local cheese plate, winter chopped salad with chicken, truffle fries, and a side of brussel sprouts. They even brought us some house pop-over breads and butter that were so good, we asked for seconds. To end off the meal, we tried a selection of their homemade gelatos. All the flavors were delicious, but what really stole the show was the company and the location. It's the kind of restaurant where you can just relax and unwind with your favorite people. The staff was very friendly and attentive with the most beautiful atmosphere, cozy and inviting.

Wow, I expected so much more. We started with two of the worst Bloody Mary's, ever! No seasonings, tasted like tomato juice and tons of horseradish. I then had a Cesar salad that was a bit wilted and room temperature, flavorless. The Pork Belly tasted okay but not served hot, room temperature. The Short-rib Hash was cold, nothing was hot about this limp dish and the potatoes were hard as a rock and tasted old. 3 slices of toast came with dish, only one slice was toasted. I ordered eggs over-hard, they were burnt and cold. The Eggs Benedict was not hot, room-temperature, the salad had no dressing on it. Our server was nice, however seemed busy and frazzled. We were excited to experience this enchanting Inn restaurant, we were so disappointed with the food.

I went to the Bird & Bottle once over the summer for dinner, and we were able to sit outside. More recently, I went for brunch and it was pouring rain, so inside we were! The summer dinner we had was wonderful. The food was delicious and the ingredients super fresh. I had the burrata salad, and a friend had the cheeseburger with fries. Another person had what I remember to be chicken or fish with greens over it; I think it was a special, because I don't see it on the menu now. Everyone raved about what they had. When we went more recently for brunch, I think we all had eggs benedict. Perfectly cooked, light hollandaise (it can overwhelm when it's too heavy), great coffee. Our server was nice and attentive, and she had folks who helped deliver our food, as it was a bit crowded. There was a large group at brunch near us, and they were having a good time (awesome!), but the acoustics in that room meant it was hard for us to hear each other over their celebration. Just something to know about timing! After we ate, on both occasions, we walked around the first floor. There's a beautiful, comfortable sitting room and a really old-school bar in the back. We all talked about coming back with a book to hang in that room with a cocktail. Lovely on both occasions!

What a complete gem of a restaurant. From the minute you walk-in, and are greeted by the host, to your exceptional meal to the cozy and warm ambiance? The Bird & Bottle Inn hits all the high notes! I started off with the black margarita, which was soooo very easy to drink. It's so rare to find black currant forward cocktails! Food-wise, we shared the mushroom flatbread (yum), the Korean bbq wings (shockingly good) and I was obsessed with my entree -- the wild boar and local beef bolognese is a must-order item. Though, I think their menu is seasonal, so you'll have to visit in the winter (I was there in December). For dessert, I shared the hazelnut chocolate tart with my partner, which was the perfect cap and ending to our meal. My friends live nearby and they consider this spot to be one of their go-to's and I can see why!

The Few room is similarly decorated with beautiful antique wooden furniture as well as a small library including historical texts about the room's namesake William Few. Despite its retro ambiance, it did not lack for modern conveniences. The room itself is quite spacious, more than enough for two people, and it has all the amenities you would expect including a large comfortable bed, a TV, water heater, and supplies to make tea. Every morning, we were offered breakfast which was served in a ornately decorated dining room and consisted of a tasty fruit salad as well as freshly baked croissants, scrambled eggs, fresh orange juice, and coffee. This was delicious way to start off the day that we looked forward to everyday. The best part of our stay was getting to interact with the owners. Throughout our stay we were well taken care of by Lynn. She was always available if we needed help and offered tips about what to see and do in Beacon. Overall, I highly recommend the Chrystie House for anyone looking to stay overnight in Beacon. Driving through this idyllic town, the GPS said we've arrived at our destination. Going up to the house, I see a busted up gravel driveway covered in leaves. I navigate to the front door and grabbed my overnight bag. Wet leaves or ice, I wouldn't be a happy guest. We're greeted by Neil and he gives us a small tour of the common space. The furnishings are very unique. I can see the owners antiquing in the area and finding these treasured pieces. As far as shared items, there is a Keurig coffee machine. It'll do in a pinch. At 7am I wanted coffee and the machine water was empty. I had to knock on the kitchen door and wait until someone answered to refill the machine. Breakfast was amazing! For me at least, when I'm on vacation I'll have French Toast and pancakes during my stay. My wife? She broke down the menu: a pitcher of orange juice, cake with sorbet, fruit plate with a boxed cookie on the side along with pancakes. My wife reminded me this is not an adult breakfast, it's all sugar! She asked for egg whites and Neil was flustered. They figured it out and served my wife. Neil grabbed me at the common area and said he explained breakfast during check in. I didn't know that we had to speak up right then, usually there's a sheet? The next day Darlene made some amazing pumpkin pancakes. My wife took 1/2 of one and we were only served two. So breakfast for me was good but I was aggravated both mornings. I was looking forward to kicking back and enjoying a bottle of wine, maybe smoke a cigar? Neil said there is no smoking on the premise. Ok, that's out. I asked for an ice bucket and was told he'll dig one up. It never came. It really didn't matter because the outside furniture on the deck, it wasn't inviting. The pillows looked wet and old. There is no other seating outside, no fire pit, nada. I brought my bottle to the next B&B... With any B&B, you should be offered quality shower products. First off, there was no soap bar? I don't like liquid soap, much less Dial. The shampoo, was a tiny bottle, something cheap. I had to buy a bar of soap and use a travel shampoo I had from another hotel. Our room was, interesting. More unique styled furniture. Lighting up the room was inadequate. There were small lamps but it wasn't enough. Neil said the thermostat for the entire house was right here. If we made the temperature warmer or colder, the entire house temperature will change. The same with the WiFi, the router was in our room?! That's a lot of pressure.. I didn't touch anything. After we checked out and I drove down busted driveway, I was glad to be leaving. 3 Yelp stars, my stay was average. I didn't feel pampered or relaxed.

With a little luck, I managed to book a room for two nights during Labor Day weekend with only about a week's notice at the Botsford Briar. I found it on the internet, having never before been to Beacon, a little escape I had planned because of hiking, kayaking, the Dia: Beacon, the boat to tour Bannerman Castle, and Main Street were all within walking distance. I arrived quite early on Saturday via train and headed up to Main Street. I had a kayaking tour reservation and had planned to do that before checking in at Bostford Briar. However, when there was some miscommunication and the tour left without me, the folks at Mountain Top outdoor store called the proprietors of the Botsford Briar (yeah, it's that small of a town) to see if I could check in early. And all was well; they were happy to take me early. My room was ready and I headed over...and up the rather steep hill of High Street. Charlie met me halfway up the hill and insisted on taking my bag the rest of the way. The house is charming and looks just as it does on the website photo. Inside, it's filled with curiosities on the first floor. I met Shirley there too. Throughout my stay, she and Charlie were wonderful. They took the time to try to find an alternate kayaking solution for me, suggested restaurants, went to the trouble of having my breakfast ready quite early on my last morning there since I had to leave before the normal time, etc. I stayed in the Wisteria Room, which was lovely. The bed was comfy. There were a couple of chairs as well as a table with two dining chairs with bottles of water on a tray. In case it was needed, there was an AC unit. Lots of sunlight could come in through the generous windows (though you could pull curtains and shades too). Wifi was free. The TV wasn't a flat screen, but I didn't watch it so, who really cares? The room had wonderful charm and was clearly lovingly decorated. The bathroom was a private one down the hall. However, they've thoughtfully added a curtain one can pull to really make that whole wing private (so you don't feel odd walking to the bathroom in your pajamas; nobody can see you). I loved the claw foot tub and had a nice soak each night. It was a large bathroom with nice towels and was meticulously clean. I spent a good portion of both evenings watching the sunset on the beautiful shared deck out back. It's at the top of High Street and you can see down and across the Hudson River. It's beautiful and a wonderful quiet spot (or a place to chat with other guests, as I did the second evening). Also shared for the guests is a small room with a fridge, cupboard (thoughtfully stocked with glasses, wine glasses, corkscrews, etc.), and a single serving coffee maker for anything you wanted to make or store yourself. Breakfast was quite generous. There was one freshly baked (and still warm!) item each day along with other breads, a fantastic fruit plate, juice, and coffee. The only thing I would have added would have been a hard boiled egg or something so that I could get in a little protein. But with what was provided, I really wasn't lacking at all in nourishment. It's brought to your room at your chosen time on a tray. The location is great. It's easy walking distance to the train station, Dia: Beacon, boat launch, and Main Street. It's within walking distance of a trail head for hiking as well though you should know that it's a long hike in itself up Main Street to reach it. I'm so glad I came to Botsford Briar to get away. It's so clear how much love (and personal talent/handiwork) Charlie and Shirley have put into the place. And they really take pride in making it a wonderful retreat. I wouldn't be surprised if I found myself back there again when weary of the city.

The decor of the room and the b&b are not my particular taste, cluttered, heavy fabrics, heavy wooded furniture. Taste is subjective though and I could imagine another person may enjoy. The air conditioner is positioned in such a way that it blows directly on the bed. I found sitting out on the deck to be noisier than we hoped for...can hear the train whistle and cars on a road in the distance. The morning breakfast spread had coffee, juice, pastries and fruit, none of which were of the best quality. I only met Charlie who was friendly and very helpful. I spoke to a woman who I believe is the owner by phone while booking and when we were likely to arrive after their 9pm time limit and our phone personalities did not mesh well.
