I don't always leave reviews, but I was so impressed by this charming B&B that I just have to! My husband and I stayed in the Column View room which was the perfect size for the two of us and has an attached bathroom. Despite being 7 months pregnant, the bed was very comfortable! The whole house is decorated in old antiques and interesting things - Love! The shared deck was very nice, with plenty of coffee, tea and hot chocolate to enjoy while watching the ships pass by on the river. We were easily able to find street parking each time and were just blocks away from some really good recommended restaurants, breweries and shops. I was very impressed by the amazing breakfast that Theresa, the innkeeper and owner, cooked and served each morning. The interaction with other guests over breakfast was one of my favorite parts. Make note that check-in time is from 4pm-6pm. We were stuck in some traffic and didn't arrive until 8pm, so we called around 6 and Theresa was gracious in welcoming us at our late time. We absolutely plan to stay here again if we find ourselves back in Astoria. I highly recommend you do too!

Great relaxing view from the back patio

The Crosby house is a small bed-and-breakfast in beautiful Astoria, Oregon. It is located close to all attractions in the town of Astoria including numerous bars, breweries, and historical attractions. We stayed in the Column View room which was small, but had a queen size bed and a private bath. Be aware that this particular bed-and-breakfast does not have air air-conditioning, so you may need to sleep with the windows open. The problem with this is road noise on this particular street is very pronounced and we had to close our window during the night, making it a challenge to get good sleep. As with all bed and breakfasts, breakfast was included and was very elaborate each of the 2 mornings we were there. This B&B is charming and well decorated. The back porch on the second floor that overlooks the water is a nice place to relax with a cup of tea or coffee, which are complimentary. *** 2/3 rooms are very small. If you are going to stay here I would recommend the Waterfront since it is spacious with a private balcony and tremendous view. *** shampoo and conditioner were not provided, so make sure to bring your own. There was 1/2 bottle of shower gel, but no bars of soap.

Pam and David are the sweetest and most hospitable hosts, and their B&B truly feels like a cozy home. They collect really fun items, and each room has its own character and its own unique homey decor. The location of the inn is close enough to walk anywhere you would want to go out for dinner, drinks, or shopping. The best part of the inn (besides Pam's breakfasts - which always include the BEST fruit bowls) is most definitely their 13 year old chihuahua, Penny. She often makes an appearance after breakfast and steals the heart of everyone she meets. If you aren't able to use a tub with a shower handle (like the kind popular in Europe) to bathe, then I would suggest getting one of their rooms with a shower/tub combination. I loved having a clawfoot tub to soak in (we stayed in the Rose Room this time) each night while I read and drank a cup of tea. There is usually hot water and teabags or instant coffee available at all hours (freshly brewed coffee is available starting at 7am) on the stairway landing and I took full advantage of that amenity!

Also, if you come down to the lobby area after you have checked in and try to talk to Sharlene, make sure she can see who you are. I watched a few times as guests came down the stairs to call out to her about a question and she can't move her neck as easily to know who she is talking to. :) Be kind and patient with this wonderful lady. At first glance, we really liked the room, but the bathroom window lock was broken, the hotel placed mini turn twist knobs placed behind the window or could be taken off. My only concern is the bathroom window being unlocked and broken faces the motel walkway. The carpet had not been replaced and was old and dirty, looked original from the opening of the motel and did not represent the pictures online. The baseboards were old, separated from the carpet and extremely dirty. The bathroom looked clean until you could see into their corners, of peoples hair and dust, the twin pillow had hair on the pillows and the twin bed /broken/leaned to one side when layed on. My daughter only weighs 110lbs. There is no attendant in the evening, as we had to call the police because someone in the parking lot was playing their music extremely loud after 11pm. Even for one night, $100 is not worth the Atomic motel, I have stayed at cleaner Motel 6's before while traveling. I really wanted to give the Atomic motel a chance because much thought, dedication, and creativity was put into the 50s theme, but the cleanliness is lacking.

A lot of people have written in to say they weren't pampered the way they wanted. Well, did you…read moreread the website, like, at all? TL/DR: crisp, minimalist rooms and amenities with nice, funky, particulars, combined with another outpost of the Broder empire, make this an ideally located, charming, basic place to crash, and our favorite in Astoria. In a very European fashion, the Commodore provides stripped, minimalist rooms, (with some of the best pillows I can recall in a hotel) with excellent social accommodations and a level of charm you won't find in any corporate hotel. Are the hours a little wonky? Yeah. But I had no problem navigating the late check-in, since they contact you and ask if that's what you'll need. There could be more amenities, but this used to be aimed at the digital-nomad-cum-wanderer younger crowd as a part of the defunct Selina organization. Don't know how much of the previous special stuff remains (checking out a projector and having movies in the lobby was awesome) but I will always have a soft spot for this place. Maybe that's because I've never been pampered and never expect to be. The new ownership has opened the restaurant, Broder Strand, with all of the Scandinavian treats, like the Classic 2 egg I had. Edit: So I've been clued in to the ownership saga of the Commodore. It was owned by the Selina Group when I wrote my first review, then when they went under, it was purchased by the person in charge f the Broder (galactic) empire, but has changed hands again. There are differences, and not many of them are good. There appears to be a general erosion in some of the "little things" like what is stocked in the "honor bar" or whatever it is called. Once there was a good variety, now its just granola bars and half-liter Mexican Cokes. The attentiveness to detail (like refilling the extra towel/robe shelf outside the shared shower rooms never happening) and a missing ceiling lamp globe in the shower room, make me think that the folks who currently own it are not quite hoteliers at heart. I took a star off because of that. They have fixed the wifi, so that's nice, and the access to the Broder Strand in the mornings (and Stranded bar in the evenings) makes it a better place, but that is someone else's labor. They really should do more cross-promotion to reinforce the bond because as it stands, I recommend the restaurant more than the hotel. In the interim, between Selina and now, a manager tried to compensate for all of the fallout from Selina's collapse and the broken reservations and lost trust that came with it. Rooms were all freshly painted, new linens and ceiling fans, tightening up some loose spots. A lot of that ground seems to have been lost and the reviews reflect that. That said, the bones are still strong. A quirky joint in a quirky town. We will always come back here. Until we retire here, that is!

The setting has a classic feel, with antique details like the steel radiator and retro windows. The room is small but clean and full of character. At $350 for two nights, it feels a bit expensive, but it offers a unique experience. There is a shared men's and women's bathroom on each floor, along with two showers. There is no A/C--just a fan in the room. We also noticed a fairly strong dog smell inside the elevator and in the bedroom, even though we like dogs. I was initially worried about noise from upstairs with a family of four (including two kids), but that hasn't been an issue. Most of the noise came from the bar across the street, where groups were loud late into the night. I used the complimentary earplugs for the first time in years of staying at hotels, and they were helpful. I could still hear the noise, and it continued until after 3:10 a.m., when the conversations outside the bar finally died down. On the bright side, the manager and staff are friendly and professional. If you're looking for a historic, classic stay, this is a distinctive option--just be aware of the shared facilities, the pet odor, and the potential for street noise.
