We stayed here at the end of September and then again early November 2023 and it's an excellent place to stay when traveling with family/friends/couples. The two rooms have their own private bathrooms in the suites so there's no overlap and makes it very private. The kitchen is totally functional and the location is unbeatable! There is a certain amount of charm and history that the city of Astoria has which, to me anyways, is very reminiscent of the towns and villages of upstate New York. Clementines has that same charm and history which adds to the experience. The location was ideal in that it was within walking distance of the river front and downtown area, w/in driving distance to areas of interest like, the Astoria Column, the beaches and parks and more importantly all the "Goonie" sights! Clementines itself was great. The innkeeper was very nice and helpful with any questions that we had about what to do or where to go. Our room was...."roomy".....comfortable and full of personality. Clementines also allows pets which is a nice consideration so we were able to bring our puppy along for the trip. The breakfast was simple yet good with a very homey feel sitting around the breakfast table chatting with the other people staying over and with the innkeeper and her help. We would definitely recommend staying here if you ever find yourself in Astoria....you should make reservations first.....and there's no minimum stay, so stay for a night, two nights or more. We were short on time, but you can bet we'll be back to search for One-eyed-Willie's treasure..and when we do we'll be staying at Clementines Bed & Breakfast. read more

This is the third year my husband and I have come here and we look forward to it every year. I hesitated to post a review because I was feeling selfish and wanted to keep this secret gem of a place all to myself. Silly me! Judith has been at the bed and breakfast biz for a very long time and she knows how to do it! She works hard to make guests feel welcomed and happy. Located in the hills of quaint Astoria, this place oozes with old-fashioned charm -- making it irresistible for a romantic heart like mine. We have stayed in the French Violet room twice (our favorite) and in the schoolhouse building once. Both were great and we had a wonderful stay. I love that there aren't tv's in the rooms -- you don't come to a B&B to watch TV! I love the well-curated furnishings and the way Judith has accommodated my food requests every time. She is an amazing host. She is honest and direct, but also warm and welcoming. The best traits, in my opinion. Clementine's is our place...and we hope Judith is here for many more years. As all the pictures indicate clementines is absolutely adorable with a beautifully appointed backyard gathering area that looks like an English country garden. So much attention to detail including the little things to make your stay special. The pictures don't show how wonderfully close clementine's is to everything. Astoria is a highly walkable little town with incredible history. Clementines is kitty corner from the gorgeous Flavell mansion just one of several well-run and very interesting museums in the city. This was our first visit to Astoria and Clementine's was the perfect place to experience it. It's a comfortable Victorian home perched on a hill overlooking The Mighty Columbia River. The location is within walking distance to downtown and the river walk. We were greeted warmly by Yvonne who checked us in and showed us around the downstairs common area which included a comfortable living room, dining room and country kitchen. She gave us the schedule for breakfast and afternoon happy hour complete with wine. There is a Keurig type coffee maker, fridge and microwave available for guests 24/7. All along, it felt like we were right at home. I can't remember the name of our room but it was upstairs and had a separate bath 3 steps down the hall. There was a little deck with 2 chairs and a table with a view of the river. The bed was super comfy and the towels were big and fluffy. The bathroom was small and rather cramped but hey, it's in an old house so I have no complaints. Breakfast both days was delicious! When Yvonne learned that my husband is from Scotland, she said she would fix authentic scones from an old Scottish recipe from her partner's mother. And she did! The next mornings breakfast was accompanied by delicious scones fresh out of the oven. So sweet! Wine time in the afternoon was great because we got to visit with Yvonne and other guests while listening to Steven play the grand piano. It was like having our own personal George Winston there to entertain us. Yvonne was a fount of information regarding sights to see, things to do and places to dine. She's lived in Astoria for less than a year but she talked like a native. By the end of our stay, I felt like we had made friends with them and was a little sad when we said goodbye. Unless you are a very heavy sleeper, DO NOT stay in the French Violet Room, Sunrise Room, or Clementine Room. The shared hallway has a stench from years of scents that have collected on rugs & furnitures. The walls are paper thin. You can hear every word of your neighbors' conversations, every single pipe in the house, every step of breakfast preparation downstairs, footsteps, doors slamming, other guests packing, fans being turned off/on, garbage truck outside despite closed windows, etc... The Dog friendly section of the property, however, is a nice and quaint cottage. read more

We were traveling to Washington with a 3week old baby and found this B and B to be wonderful! Luckily the owner was willing to take on an infant. The clementine suite was well worth the money for our needs. The owner Judith was very accommodating from making our dinner reservations to making breakfast an hour earlier than she normally does so we could get on the road. She even cut my food to help me while I bottle fed my son. The only thing I could gripe about is the size of the other rooms which were too small for our small family. Two historic buildings make up Clementine's B&B. Brightly painted, perched on the steep hillside up two flights of stairs from Exchange Street and surrounded by gardens, the place is charming. Clementine's decor is an eclectic collection of old things and things chosen to complement them. The living room boasts large windows, comfy chairs, a crystal chandelier, and a grand piano. One dining room table sits next the piano, clearly used for serving refreshments. One turns the corner to a large oval dining table that seats 12 comfortably, next to a big country kitchen with pots and pans suspended from the ceiling. Out the back door is a garden with lots of seating. And this is just the main building, the house. And there is high-speed wifi, too. Our room, the Garden Room, is just off the main area, and has a roomy en-suite bath. Antique wooden blocks adorn the dresser; lithographs of old poems with pen-and-ink illustrations adorn one wall. An old armoire in one corner holds two comfy robes. The high bed is covered with a flowered comforter and piled with pillows. The inside wall, covered with horizontally grooved wood paneling, is painted bright orange. The ceiling is white-painted stamped tin. The walls aren't square. But there are all the comforts one could want, including thick towels, hot water, and bedside lamps that work! Hostess Judith and her staff make one feel wonderfully welcome, and breakfast is remarkable. read more

We had a WONDERFUL stay at Clementine's! Judith (proprietor) and Yvonne were personable and attentive and the house was beautiful and clean. Judith has maintained the Victorian charm of the house yet it was cozy, refreshed and quiet. The bed was comfortable. The house sits on a quiet street approximately 3 blocks from the main streets and waterfront. From our cute balcony, we could see ships waiting in the Columbia River and heard them signal w the pilot boat in the morning (due to fog) - so cool! The house was set up to make us feel safe re: Covid - there were no shared common areas and we were told that extra precautions had been taken in cleaning between guests. In the morning, we picked up our coffee/tea service and breakfast basket and took it to our room. The food was delicious and hearty - it served as brunch. We were asked ahead of time if we had any food restrictions. We will be back - without a doubt! Thank you Judith! read more

I would love to be able to give Clementine's a better rating - the house is beautiful and the separate lodge we stayed in was nice and roomy. However - In general we felt that we were "unimportant" to the staff. This is possibly because we stayed on a Sunday and Monday night, but despite that we still should have received the service we paid for. We got breakfast an hour late on the last morning - an alarm in a separate room woke both of us up at night and I had to call the innkeeper to have her come turn it off - when we went for the "complimentary glass of wine" in the main house, we felt like we were interrupting them. Also, our room never had the towels changed, bed made or plates removed from breakfast. I don't know if this is normal for here, but in every other place we have stayed, this has not been the case. I am sure others will have different experiences, but we have stayed at many bed and breakfasts and have never experienced the lack of attention and service that we had here. read more

Took a slow weekday drive up the coast from North Bend, OR on our way to a weekend with friends in Portland, OR. Wanted to spend just one night in Astoria and Clementines looked like it would fit the bill.....Boy is that an understatement! I contacted Yvonne who agreed to waive the 2 night minimum and took our reservation without hesitation. We arrived shortly after the 4 pm check in time, rang the doorbell and...nothing. Called the number posted next to the front door. Yvonne immediatly answered (she was out back) and was there in seconds. We were greeted warmly, shown the home, given the usual breakdown of what to expect and shown to our room.....The Dahlia Room. It was PERFECT! Cozy and quaint with a small private balcony with that had 2 seats, a table and view of downtown Astoria and the Columbia River that was to DIE for. It was a short walk to through town to the waterfront where we enjoyed cocktails and dinner. Returned to the Inn where we met co-manager Steven and fellow lodgers the Kathys' from Wisconsin. We all sat down to a magical evening of wine, conversation and beautiful piano music by Steven. SUCH FUN! Stayed up later than planned and drank a tad bit too much wine but all worthwhile....such a fun time. Retired to our room, crawled into a very comfortable bed and slept soundly. Woke to the smell for fresh coffee wafting up the stairs, took a nice hot shower with plenty of pressre and drifted downstars where we met Jeff and Barb from Perth, Australia. Had a cup of joe with a fresh baked scone and granola with yogurt while waiting for the main course. The 8 of us sat down to a great breakfast prepared by Yvonne. It was like being with family!! My husband and I stumbled upon this quaint B & B and Judith was kind enough to let us stay very last minute when we needed emergency lodging. Boy did we pick the right place and luck was with us! The beds was heavenly, sheets smooth and luxurious and comfortable pillows, clean room and evening wine to boot. We stayed in the Violet room, had a private bath and small balcony to enjoy the view of the river. Breakfast was divine, pleasant guests to visit with and lovely authentic décor and furnishings. My Girlfriend and I stayed here this past weekend and we were very pleased. We had never stayed at a B&B and had not really been to Astoria. From the moment we walked in, Judith was very welcoming and funny. The house was very clean and charming. We stayed in the Garden Room, which had a comfortable bed, private bathroom, and plenty of hot water. We found a journal in the room with entries of other guests and we enjoyed reading the great stories. The house was very peaceful, relaxing, and quiet. We especially loved how close it was to all the activities we wanted to do. We were able to walk all around downtown and we were just two blocks from the main streets and riverwalk. We enjoyed all the historical facts and buildings. Judith is an excellent cook and you can tell she loves to cook and please her guests. The first morning we had Fresh Fruit, Sausage Links, and Raspbery French Toast, Coffee, and Orange Juice. The second morning we had Fresh Fruit, A Baked Egg Scramble topped with Pesto and Parmesean Cheese, and side of Broccoli and Diced Tomatoes. We had a great experience and will definitely be coming back to stay in one of the other rooms upstairs. read more

My mom and her friend had a great time at Clementine's that I booked for them as a short trip to visit another friend. They came home raving about the room (Clementine's Suite), breakfast, cooking class and other welcoming touches throughout their stay. They felt very comfortable and relaxed for those two days thanks Judith, Linda and Judith's niece. The only two things that they didn't expect were 1) the number of stairs to get from the parking lot to the house and up to the room, and 2) no television for football! read more

My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon, and loved this place. After the first night we wanted to come back for our anniversary, and by the third night we were even more in love with the place -- as well as each other. The site is great with plenty of trees and flowers and in easy walking distance of the heart of Astoria. Stairs up are steep but you can park above Exchange Street on 8th Avenue and come in from the side The two houses, built in 1852 and 1888, are very nice rooms -- deep and cozy queen size beds, with plenty of books on the shelves (always a good sign!) and modern kitchen and bed facilities. I am writing this review after a week passing from my stay at this Bed and Breakfast. I truly gave it much thought before writing this review. I certainly make it a habit of being kind to people and this truly is my first negative review. However, after reading several reviews that guests seemed to receive the same type of treatment, I feel it would only be helpful to Judith. Perhaps, she does not realize how her attitude and comments can be offensive. We did show up early for our check in time, but all we were hoping for was someone to pick up the phone. I must note our calls were never answered throughout our stay. The phone constantly goes to voicemail. So do not bother asking for ice, or blankets, or pillows or directions or anything, no one answers the phone. Our room did not have a TV, the only TV was in the common area which we shared with another older gentleman, that went to bed early. He would place the written sign stating do not disturb on his door. We were the only ones that he would be addressing this to as no one else had keys to our common area. By the way, the TV was so old it had a VHS player embedded in the unit!! Regarding Judith, when she finally appeared at the time we tried to check in again at 5:30 p.m. she was rude to us and answered the door rudely "Yeeeeeees?" I responded we are here to check in, we are the Sullivans. She was so rude and condescending to us throughout this initial meeting. I am only noting one now...she litterally said to me "have you ever stayed at a Bread and Breakfast before? (very condescending tone) Ummm... I responded actually, many times, and they usually answer at least the phones. During the tour of the home she kept repeating breakfast was at 8:30 a.m. as if I was illiterate. Following that introduction we decided not to have breakfast with her. By the way, she mentions that in the late afternoon you can come by and have a glass of wine. What about tea or coffee and fresh baked goods? Ummm that is what I am used to at a nice 4/5 star B&B. We did decide to have one breakfast as we had to get up early for our departure, when we arrived there was one guest talking to Judith. They were going on and on with one another. I walked up and began to look for a cup for the coffee. The guest saw me and apologized for taking up her time at the coffee pot. Judith jumped in and said' NOOO....don't apologize she can wait her turn. I replied I was just looking for a cup, which she replied, well they are right here and you can have one when it is your turn. It was very awkward and embarrassing. I did not know what to say. I did not want to make a scene in front of all the other guests. Breakfast was served and although it was a small portion, which is fine, I myself am not a big eater, I could see everyone else practically licked their plate. By the way, their was no meat offered. Just an egg dish with a small little fruit bowl. I am sure everyone was like where's the bacon/sausage/ham? If someone happened to be a Vegan, why wouldn't that person be served something on their own? In addition, there were two fresh loaves of bread staring at us on the counter. It was not offered. There was no toast or muffins or bagels or anything on the table. There was the bread was fresh out of the oven teasing all of the guests. I myself was made so uncomfortable, I certainly was not going to ask for any. I was afraid to ask for the salt and pepper. Which thankfully, someone else had the courage to do so. The only way to summarize our experience which is to put it in a more comical way is to say, it was like that Seinfeld Episode "Soup Natzi." I will never go back there again. Honestly, it has put such a bad taste in my mouth, that I really would find it difficult to try another Bed and Breakfast. We will stick to our hotel choices in the future, where we will have privacy, the phone calls will be answered, and people will strive to give you quality customer service. read more

WONT be staying here again. First, the TV in the downstairs living room and the faucets in the bathroom were broken. The room itself was okay, comfy bed but weird decor. The included breakfast was quite yummy, but there was so little of it that we had to go out to a restaurant for another meal afterwards just to fill up. Also, at breakfast time one morning, Judith told everyone they had to sit next to someone that they dont already know - fine. But then she sees 2 people who know each other sitting next to each other, and says "I will NOT serve breakfast until everyone all changes seats!" - bizarre and awkward. We ALL have to get up and arrange ourselves to her liking before we could be served. Now I can see suggesting how we seat ourselves, but demanding that we all get up and move or else she wont serve us was a bit over the top. It was very disrespectful to be treated like children. Everyone there was taken aback for sure. And one more thing, the room next to us had some sort of solid surface floor, and whenever the people walked around it was like a herd of elephants ... those walls musta been made out of plywood or something! Overall, a pretty bizarre experience at Clementines, not very relaxing at all. read more

We drove 4 hours to get to Astoria. All we wanted to do is relax in the rooms we saw online. NO ONE WAS HOME! I called only to be told I'd need to wait an hour and a half. Apparently u can only check in from 4-6pm. I was looking for peace and quiet. Outside our front door the city was tearing up the ENTIRE road. So I politely asked the construction worker "What time do you all start work in the morning?" He replied, "7:00am". I turned to the owner who had just walked up the path and met me after I stood out there for an hour and a half with my aunt,3 little kids, my Beagle dog and a pissed off husband! I turned back to the owner and said I'm not sure about this? And she said " I think u should just go!" I WAS FLABBERGASSED! I have never been treated so awful in my life by a business.I called The Holiday Inn Express and thank god they accept doggies! read more

I've driven by Clementine's a lot and thought it looked really cute, so when my family visited I checked out Yelp and recommended Clementine's. I shouldn't have! We stayed in a separate Lodge with a downstairs and an upstairs that were connected by a death defying flight of stairs! We knew the room wasn't handicap accessible, not did we need it to be, but we didn't expect a flight of tiny, nearly ninety degree steps straight up and down! I fell the first morning when visiting and hurt several toes. There definitely needs to be a warning, if someone with any sort of mobility issues or an elderly person stayed there it would be a death trap. Speaking of hurt toes, another ailment came with breakfast. We'd forgotten to notify the innkeeper that my mother has Celiac disease, so when we went to breakfast the first morning she wasn't expecting to eat. We'd mostly gone to breakfast to say hello since their keys had been duct taped to the front door since they arrived around 7pm and they hadn't met the innkeeper or introduced themselves yet. (The keys had a scrawled, messy note on the back directing them to their entrance). The innkeeper forcefully explained that the breakfast was gluten free, then guilted my mother about not telling her about the ailment, not even letting my mom explain that we weren't going to be eating there and thus she didn't need to know. We sat down to "gluten free" fritatta and less than two hours and no other food later, my mom had a horrendous gluten attack. There was probably flour in the tortilla chips or sauce, but the innkeeper was too busy feeling put out and loudly talking over my mom to bother double checking. The innkeeper's attitude generally sucked, she was pushy and rude that morning at breakfast, and ignorant of the seriousness of allergies. The beds weren't made every morning and the "general cleaning" seemed to be more like "rearrange everyone's stuff." The soap and provided bath products were terrible, slimey and very low quality. Between the awful stairs and the pushy innkeeper, we won't be returning. read more

My fiance and I spent the weekend at Clementine's Bed and Breakfast after I read so many great reviews on Yelp and reviewing their website. I had high hopes for a relaxing and cozy weekend in Astoria, though I'm afraid I cannot leave a fabulous review like those I previously read. We stayed in the Riverview Loft in the Moose Lodge next to the main house. First, to highlight the great qualities: 1. Breakfast, both mornings, was phenomenal. 2. Location is great, within walking distance to anything you'd want to do in Astoria 3. The property itself is quite beautiful with lots of blooming flowers Now, for the must-read and what I'd rate this place: Friendliness: 7/10 Cleanliness: 2/10 Comfort: 2/10 Breakfast: 10/10 Accuracy of Description on Website: 2/10 The website states that there is free wi-fi, but what it doesn't mention is that wi-fi is not available in the rooms. Check-in is between 4p and 6p. We checked in at 5pm, Judith took us to our room and let us in only to find that it had not been cleaned. She said that she needed to make a phone call and some time to clean the room, so my fiance and I said that we'd go back downtown for a while to wait. She phoned us about an hour later to let us know that our room was ready. The website indicated that the loft included a full kitchen, which was just what we were looking for. I had planned on cooking two fancy dinners for my fiance. I carefully packed and brought all the food and condiments that we would need but found that the kitchen was severely lacking utensils and cookware. I was able to make it work, though I had to wash everything I used prior to using it as everything was sort of sticky and unclean. The tea kettle on the stove was so filthy it appeared to never have been washed. The coffee pot was so incredibly filthy that I could hardly get it clean enough to use. There was food left in the garbage disposal and the sponge in the sink smelled sour and was just gross. The cutting board was also sticky and sort of dusty-the knives were so dull that I couldn't really cut anything. Additionally, the roll of paper towels was stained, there were no hand towels and the one hot mit for the oven was so grungy and burned that I didn't want to use it. We decided to forgo the second fancy home-cooked meal for a meal out on the second day. Because we didn't get into the room when we had hoped, we ended up having a bit of a late dinner and decided to stay in for the evening. The television downstairs did not work. The television upstairs was unwatchable as it was so old the picture was constantly moving, scrolling, changing color, etc. There was a DVD player upstairs but it didn't work. After 15 minutes of fiddling with it, we decided to watch a movie on our laptop. There was a bed downstairs, but we decided to sleep upstairs-it was quite cozy with a cute balcony and because the website stated that there was only a sitting area downstairs, we had planned on staying upstairs anyhow, it seemed fun. The website states that the rooms have luxury bed linens with down comforters, this is NOT the case. The bed coverings upstairs were old, torn and downright dirty. I woke up on several occasions hearing noises from the guests downstairs. I heard every footstep, every door open and close, every drawer and cupboard being used... until 1am.. Around 3am, I realized that I was being bitten all over my body and I couldn't stop scratching myself. I looked over to see that my fiance was scratching his arms, his chest, his legs... in his sleep. I woke him up and suggested that we move to the other bed. Perhaps it was mites? Fleas? Not sure what was eating us. We hardly slept all night and continued to itch into the morning. We were so tired we could hardly make it to breakfast and we spent the majority of the next day trying to get rested. The next night, we slept on the bed downstairs and it was much more comfortable, still though, no luxury linens and the pillow cases looked to have never been washed. Less important, but still worth mentioning-the website states that there is a jacuzzi tub and luxury bath accessories, which is part of what sold me on staying here. There are no luxury bath accessories. There is a jacuzzi tub, but the bathroom it's in is like a closet and extremely uncomfortable. You can hardly sit up in the tub as the ceiling/roof is so low that it makes it really quite difficult to use. To add insult to injury, Judith called us after we left on the second day and stated that the beds upstairs had been slept in and that she'd have to charge us for the extra guests. I briefly explained what happened and she had no response. We will not be coming back, nor can we recommend staying here. With that said, there are so many raving reviews about this bed and breakfast, it leaves me perplexed about our stay. read more

My husband an I stayed here for 3 days on our honeymoon, and it was WONDERFUL!! Nice feather bed that was juuuuust RIGHT- not too firm, yet, not too soft. It has a nice, comfy and warm comforter, a REALLY nice hot tub\shower combo. I liked the quaint furnishings like the old-timey bathroom sink. There are 2 rooms with a nice common area which includes a kitchen and living room. In there, there is a tv, a nice futon couch, and a nice country-ish dinner table, among many other things that makes it nice and homey. This home-away from home is located in downtown Astoria within walking distance of everything- little shops, a must-see maritime museum, GREAT restaurants, and sooooo many other activities that can't POSSIBLY be enjoyed in just 3 days, so we are going to be returning for our 1st anniversary. It is also within a short driving distance of many amazing military historical sites. Oh, and make sure you visit the south Jetty. It is SO awe inspiring, on the verge of overwhelming to see the 8-10 foot waves breaking. read more

My fiancée and I went to Astoria for the weekend. We wanted to get out of Seattle and go Goonies hunting. We stayed at Clementines and had a superb time. Our room was the Sunrise Room. The bed felt like heaven and the whole place felt like a home away from home. Both breakfasts tasted great and the people running the place were friendly. Definitely staying here the next time we do a weekend getaway to Astoria. read more

I can't say enough about how much I LOVE this place. Let's start with Judith, the consummate hostess that made me feel welcome immediately. She gave me the nicest room to shelter me from the storms that blew me in from Olympic National Park. She was totally accommodating, cooked the most delicious breakfasts and maintained the chillest and most hospitable atmosphere I have ever experienced at a B&B (and I have stayed at many). The room was comfortable (softest bed ever) and tastefully decorated. I thought it was so pretty and loved the spacious bathroom. The house is amazing (it's turn of the century Astoria style), location is fantastic (right down the street from the Flavel House) and Astoria Film Museum (site of the infamous Fratelli brother's prison break in Goonies!!) and the scenery is breathtaking as it's right on the Columbia river. I had the best time and was so lucky to be marooned at this picturesque, warm and delightful Inn. Oh, and bonus points to a B&B that has Liam, who always materialized just when I needed to pet him (beautiful pup that is Judith's awesome side kick!!). Stay here. You won't regret it. read more
