My review is more than a little late, but my opinion of Cannery Pier has not changed! We visited in April of this year, and our experience was unmatched! The front desk staff, bartenders, and maid staff were all so friendly and helpful. Check in is a breeze and the rooms are impeccable. There is also a fresh breakfast bar every morning (and a chef that makes omelets and eggs to your liking)! The pool is situated with a great view and has an actual Swedish sauna right there for a quick steam (with water rocks and everything). I'm torn on how to review this place. The location was fantastic. Our corner room on the water had a spectacular view, we saw ships and the tide come and go, it was great and everyone we interacted with was incredibly nice. The spa was also fantastic and relaxing, though it was a bit pricey for what we got. That being said, the EV charging and parking were subpar, and the bathrooms showed clear signs of grime and mold. Overall, it's a solid 3.75/5... worth the price per night for the awesome location and lovely folks, but it needs some work before I'd be willing to come back. Go use the Rivian network across the way if you have an ev, despite 2-3x kWh pricing, it's still cheaper and faster. And open to all EVs as long as you have ccs or adapter. read more

Hmm... what can I say about this historical beauty town of Astoria...first time here and it's such a quaint town. It's so cute just like my Hallmark movies I watched. The Cannery Pier hotel& Spa is as nice as the Ritz Carton Hotel of half moon bay that I stayed at. There is so much relaxation options, they have a spa on site with complimentary amenities (hot tub & sauna) which was a plus and the staffs have been so friendly with awesome hospitality. The ambience was the perfect weekend getaway to relax and celebrate a honeymoon and/or baby moon. Let me list out the awesome experiences we had ... the complimentary dailies: breakfast 7am-10am, cookies after 7pm, $25 daily credits to spend at the bar (bat closes at 10pm), a chauffeur to drive you around town between 4pm-10pm, can even ride the trolley on certain day through town. Don't let me spoil and tell you everything....There are many more great things to enjoys you must come to experience yourself! We want to shout out to the Hotel Staffs Linh D and Reyn, GM for setting us up in a beautiful room with and absolutely gorgeous view of the water and bridge to celebrate our baby moon and to help me relax before the big day of our miracle baby. We stayed two nights at the Cannery Pier Hotel in Astoria to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary, and it was a truly memorable experience. From the start, the staff made us feel welcome. Janice was kind and helpful during the booking and check-in process, and John -- who drove us to our dinner reservation -- was friendly and knowledgeable, offering great local insight along the way. We stayed in room 401, which was lovely and had stunning views of the Columbia River. Watching the ships go by was peaceful and romantic. The bed and pillows were especially comfortable and helped us sleep well. While the room was generally very nice, it was a bit dustier than expected for one that had just been cleaned. We enjoyed using the hot tub and sauna -- a nice perk -- though the hot tub area could use a refresh, as there was visible rust and chipping paint on the surrounding floor. Still, it was great to have those amenities available. The complimentary breakfast was another highlight, especially the omelet service. I had a delicious chorizo omelet that really hit the spot. The staff throughout the property were kind and attentive, adding to the sense of care and relaxation. We'd happily recommend the Cannery Pier Hotel for couples and solo travelers alike. Every room has a view, and the window and balcony door are angled to show off both the bridge and the western view towards the mouth of the river. There were even louvered openable shutters on the wall between our room and the bathroom, letting guests look out at the river from the bathtub or the shower. There are a lot of things to like about a stay at Cannery Pier - plenty of parking rides to restaurants in their classic cars, a bar with fantastic views, gas fireplace and fully controllable mini split heating in the rooms, a hot tub and sauna that are open outside of spa hours, great breakfasts with custom made omelettes, DIY waffles, pastries that are much better than expected. My only quibble is the super-deluxe shower that comes with written (and necessary) instructions, for moving between the rainhead, multiple body sprays, and the hand held wand head. All three options are pretty agressive, with literally nowhere to hide when you want to apply shampoo or lather up. I certainly appreciate the fanciness of the ultimate shower experience, but a fourth, simpler option might be nice as well. Or, maybe I should have just treated myself to a bubble bath. read more

If I could give 4.5 stars, I would! We just recently stayed at the Cannery Pier Hotel & Spa for the first time. It was an amazing experience, almost 5 stars all around. Pros: The hotel itself is gorgeous. The rooms are spacious and beautifully appointed. Every room has a view of the River, because you're practically over it! Fireplace, mini fridge, claw foot tub, separate shower. Complimentary breakfast, with an omelette chef. I've read a lot of reviews on Yelp for the Cannery Pier indicating that the breakfast is no better than a Best Western. No disrespect to those reviewers, but I've stayed at my fair share of Best Westerns, and I've only ever seen one that had an omelette chef (Sutherlin, Oregon, if you're wondering). The breakfast was great. Staff. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. Our housekeeper did an amazing job - honestly, I've never seen a hotel room cleaned that well during our stay. Bar 600. Drinks were really good. Servers and bartenders were great. Cons: The bed was the hardest bed I've ever slept on. The pillows were decent, nothing great. This was the only real negative aspect of the room. The food in the bar (Bar 600) needs some work. The food is not on par with the drinks. We sampled 3 items, and the best of the three were the Jalapeño Poppers ($8). The Italian Meatballs ($15) were good, but they came out cold and we had to request that they be reheated. And they were garlicky! I mean, we love garlic, but this was a bit much. Maybe they're working on a Halloween-inspired menu with those garlic meatballs. The Vegetable Spring Rolls ($13) came with two. They were pretty big, but they just seemed to fall apart, loosely wrapped. But other than that, we had a great time, and we'll definitely be back. If you hit Bar 600, skip the food and try the Seafoam (Vanilla Vodka, Malibu rum, Pineapple Juice and Whip Cream). I had one both nights we stayed there! read more

First time we ever stayed at a hotel and went to breakfast at 9am and came back to a made up room at 10am!! The view of the river, passing ships, incoming and outgoing tides, and sunsets are amazing. What a fantastic hotel! We stayed here for two nights and had one the most comfortable and luxurious weekends. My wife had the 1 hour deep tissue massage, and said it was the best she's ever had. We had a wonderful 2-night getaway here earlier this month. Awesome hotel, super nice and accommodating staff. Perfect location to walk to and from the main area in town. We brought our two dogs with us and they had a great pet package that included Pendleton dog beds, dogs, treats, bowls, and bandannas. It was such a treat to be in the room with the fireplace going and watching the ships go by. Felt like you were floating in the water. We came here for our two year wedding anniversary. This was our second year in a row in Astoria and this stay was even more amazing than the last one. We're seriously contemplating on making Astoria a yearly trip. Negatives: -maybe price, but they do offer seasonal discounts. Keep an eye out on their website. I initially missed the discount when I booked through Booking.com, but they were kind enough to apply the discount on my stay anyway as my stay did qualify for that month. Positives: -service, from the host, to the bartender, the breakfast cook, to the room service, and our chauffeur everyone was amazing. Things to point out, --our host responded to my texts and was very accommodating of my requests. She helped us with the discount with our stay. She gave us a complimentary photo of our stay and gave it to us early after I told her we would be leaving early on our last day. She remembered our names and room number. Those little details showed great attention and care. --room service is done on a daily basis, it includes vacuuming and mopping. Most hotels have reduced this to every other day or non existence using Covid as an excuse. They even filled our water as requested and all the free amenities like, coffee, bath salts, and tea --John our chauffeur went above and beyond providing me and my wife with a classy drive up and down the river walk. It started with me asking him to give us a simple short drive down to the pier before dropping us off at our dinner spot. He drove us down and told us all about the history of Astoria, he knew so much and gave us many recommendations along with providing answers to our many curious questions. It was a very classy tour experience that we will always remember. Making our anniversary feel that much more special. Thank you John --the room was modern and provided us a view of the river from every angle. The bed was comfy, and everything was super clean. The hotel, on the first onset, is beautiful, small and in an amazing location. Front desk experience was great, easy smooth check-in. However after getting into our room (almost $400 a night) it became apparent that it hadn't been cleaned properly / at all. I had to sent multiple photos to the general manager as there was literally dirt all over the back of the bathroom door, both of the shower heads were covered in dust, dust on the headboard, dirt on window sills, dirt on the walls in the bathroom, etc. Further, one of the bathrobes had blue stains on it. To the credit, the GM acted promptly and the room was cleaned. The bathrobes are washed in one of the most pungent and headache inducing scents I have ever experienced. It engulfed the entire room with scent, to the point where I had to leave the bathrobes outside of the room & open the windows. It is ironic as there are beautiful smelling natural products offered in the bathroom/shower & the spa is aligned with Aveda. The bar food was below standard. The mac & cheese was cold, had no flavour except one of a plastic container. Our $22.00 crab dip came out with dried slices of zucchini and huge chunks of green pepper, which felt very odd and misaligned to what is shown online. The cocktails were for the most part good, but I would absolutely not eat there. The breakfast is very simple, the fruit salad was inedible. The egg used for the omelets were tipped out of a container. It's a very high end price point and there are parts of the hotel offerings which don't feel holistically aligned to the price point the hotel is placing itself at. The views are amazing. read more

Love in the time of COVID requires a little patience and flexibility. A worldwide pandemic caused a change of plans for our milestone birthdays and anniversaries this year. So while I would have loved to be sipping a Lava Flow on Kauai, all of our celebrations were at home or in COVID-safe environments nearby. The upside was that we finally were able to stay at the Cannery Pier Hotel which I've been eyeing for years. We stayed in October and December of this year and both were very positive experiences. The room was very clean, although the paint shows a bit of scuffing and wear. One little oddity is that there are phones in the bathroom and during our first stay the phone was missing (just the jack still present) and in our second room the phone was there. I vote for total removal. There were many COVID precautions in place and we felt very safe staying here. I was pleased that they still offered a modified wine hour and continental breakfast. On our first visit we received the wine at check-in to enjoy in our room. On our latest visit, wine hour was in the lobby and a staff member served you a selection of wine, cheese, crackers, grapes, and chocolate chip cookies. My biggest recommendation to guests is to choose an even numbered room if you would like the best view of the Astoria-Megler Bridge. The King Deluxe rooms have the bed, couch, and window seat along one wall, so odd numbered rooms face towards the marina and mouth of the Columbia River, and the even numbered room face the bridge when you are lying in bed or lounging on the couch or window seat. Our room had a small balcony and it is a very peaceful location. Because this is a pricey option in Astoria, I also recommend you get on their mailing list so you are aware of discounts and specials. Because of COVID, we never used the spa or fitness center, which requires a reservation for a 45-minute window, or the vintage chauffeur service. Right now the car service will pick-up food for you from downtown restaurants on Wed-Sun from 5 pm - 7 pm. A really nice touch. We had just a few minor delays in the check-in process, but overall were very happy with the attentiveness of the staff. Our December visit was especially enjoyable because of the lovely holiday decorations. We look forward to returning even when there isn't a pandemic. My husband surprised me with a trip and stay here. AWESOME VIEW of the boats coming in with balcony, literally over the water. Customer service was great, everyone was extremely helpful. It's been recently remodeled and the entire place (front lobby, common area, rooms) is classy, impeccably clean with trinkets, food & alcohol at your fingertips. On the second floor, there's a "mini museum "with a full history of the area and how Cannery Pier became a hotel. They also provide bicycles to use free of charge for easy access to downtown. We stayed here the week of July 11th and it was so beautiful. The rooms were so nice and the staff were very kind. We arrived from San Diego and wanted to stay close to where the goonies were filmed. We showed up for our check in an they told us they didn't have the two queen size beds. We instantly felt a panic because we have 2 kiddos and myself an hubby. Right away they told us they upgraded us to the suite that had a pull out couch, private bed room, an one of the best balconies ever. They had fresh baked cookies at 7 pm that my daughters were so excited to get. An we ended up getting delivery from a local pizza place and that was a mistake. Lol but the next morning the complimentary breaks fast was very good. They had a nepresso machine with different types of coffees, different options for healthy breakfast or just a good home style breakfast like bacon and eggs. We spent the rest of our night relaxing and watching tv as boats went by our window. We are very happy with our stay an if we ever come back we will stay again read more

For Astoria Oregon, I love this place. What a fantastic story of the man who built it and was so proud of the finished product. He passed away September 2018 and you can feel him all around the place, amazing. Location: Incredible, all rooms face the water, lots of parking, restaurants within walking distance, Bridgewater Bistro is my recordation, but the hotel has car service to take you wherever in town. Rooms: pretty nice for Astoria Oregon. No, it is not a Four Seasons but the experience is fantastic. Value: dang, the rooms are a little pricy, oh but so what. Beware!! We stayed at this hotel about a year ago and had a good time. Recently got a promotional email and decided to go again. Called and made reservations and, at the time, asked of there would be a charge if we had to cancel. They said, no, as long as we cancelled 7 days before the reservation. Just called today to cancel, 13 days before the reservation, and now they're saying they won't refund the full deposit because it was a special price. What does the price have to do with the cancellation? I tried to get them to live up to the assurance I was given when I made the reservation and they refused. I don't love this place, even with its amazing views of the four mile wide Columbia and the working ships that glide past. The rooms are getting dated with chipped paint, frayed carpet and loose hinges on cabinets. The front desk managed to call us five times during our short stay. It was weird. The beds are super comfortable, and the sheets are my favorite kind of cotton sheets. The pillows are also comfortable. The large claw foot tub is a blessing! Still, it's unlikely I'll return--it's expensive and no longer worth the price tag to me. The staff was fine--I just expected more attention to detail for the price point. Came in with our dogs and felt like we had done something horribly wrong from the moment we walked in. They are pet friendly in the since that you can bring a dog but there is a separate pet entrance and the staff seemed rather grumpy. Full disclosure I booked my room online, called the same day to add on my dogs- thought everything was fine. Apparently I booked a non-dog friendly room but they had me in a room that is sometimes used as a pet friendly room... ultimately, if I am paying a 5 star price, I just would like 5 star service. New ownership doesn't seem to care about the community. I used to stay here once a year even though I live in Astoria, just to enjoy the views, the spa and the lovely staff. The hotel is under new ownership and it appears the new corporate overlords decided to fire the entire spa staff with zero notice this week. Their excuse was that they needed to close for renovation work (yet everyone knows that would have been scheduled in advance, contractors here are booked months out, therefore notice could have been given if that was their real reason, duh). BUT instead of giving any notice, they continued to book appointments and sell gift certificates for services. The community members who were fired were probably counting on the bookings for the next couple of weeks for their income, like anyone in that industry would. I used to work as a massage therapist at a fancy hotel spa and there is no excuse for this kind of treatment. I urge you to try staying at the Hotel Elliot or Crest Motel (they have a sweet hot tub with a panoramic view of the river!) PS. I hate leaving a negative review. I used to love staying here but I don't know of a better way to support the staff then to tell their story and recommend that visitors stay elsewhere. Spent a weekend here recently and loved it. The hotel is charming and small. The definition of a boutique hotel experience. Staff is all lovely, rooms are well appointed and there really is no room without an incredible view. We loved watching the ships go by right outside our window. That was a major highlight and the manifest of the ships coming through that day is provided daily. We saw seals, sea lions and birds from our view. We loved the bar in the evenings and the ambience of the seating in the bar including areas to sit by the fireplaces. The only complaint we had is regarding the beds. The beds are hard and the pillows are too soft so it was not a comfortable sleeping experience and the only reason this is not a five star review. Also this is a dog friendly hotel, and at times the dogs were barking and annoying in the common area. This was not the hotels fault but annoying nonetheless as the common area is also the bar area. We loved it here overall and these are minor things that would not deter us from staying again. Wonderful experience. read more

The room was fantastic! I was right on the water and had a pair of bald eagles right outside in the morning on my last day.  The room itself was very nice.  It felt very luxurious with the claw foot tub and large separate shower. The spa and sauna were a pleasant treat.  The staff was a little contradictory when it came to information on the spa but we figured it out on our own and it was great to unwind.  The evening social hour was also a nice touch and the staff working those events were incredibly kind and accommodating for our large group One of the only downside was the breakfast, which was mediocre.  The spread included mostly baked goods, including DIY waffles, which I didn't try.   The fresh fruit was only okay, although that is expected for a winter stay I guess.  Not terrible by any means, just not as good as other breakfasts at cheaper hotels. One other thing to note is that on a foggy night, expect to be woken up by really loud fog horns from barges passing right by the window.  Our last night had several barges blaring their horns starting at 2:40am! Even ear plugs didn't help some folks in our group. I suppose it comes with the location though. Regarding the price/value, we stayed at a discounted rate so I'm not sure how the full price value would compare.  This is definitely a step up from your typical hotel so I imagine it is worth the price if the rooms are around $175 /night. More than that and you should probably take advantage of all of the amenities if you can. read more

When this hotel was built, it was stunning! No doubt about it. But it has become tired and worn. Afresh coat of paint would do much to improve it. The room upholstery needs help, the hard surfaces in the bathroom were stained because it appears they've never or infrequently been resealed. Our room needs a deep clean in the worst way. Not what we expected for over $300 per night. The vintage Rolls Royce out front is nice to look at but I'd rather see some updates. read more

This beautifully updated renovated hotel, and spa is the perfect comfortable location here in Astoria, for travelers, who want all the comforts and welcome of a bed-and-breakfast, yet the spacious up dated baths and views and spaciousness of a well appointed room. The staff was wonderfully personable, accommodating and welcoming. Everyone did a great job to make my one night stay very comfortable. read more
