Some of the best sleep we've had in a while. The ambiance hit just right, super relaxed but still feels special. The pool was a great & relaxed vibe and the cocktails were fantastic. And b-fast was amazing at Lillians. Best eggs benedict I've had in years! We'll absolutely be back, and we already send out of town friends and family here whenever they want to unplug and relax. Their staff is all super friendly and helpful. They had a wedding while we were there which was cool to see on the main lawn. Highly recommend this great property!

I have been going to the Inn since the 1960's with my Mother and my Grandmother. There used to be many Eucalyptus trees on the front lawn, However, many of them have been cut down as a result of a disease that struck these majestic trees. The lobby has been beautifully redecorated in shades of greens and browns. There is a fireplace which is always lighted. In addition, there are very clean bathrooms just down the hall from the lobby. There is a luxurious bar on the left, which also leads into Lilian's Restaurant. The cottages and bungalows are disbursed throughout the verdant gardens.

This is for the Spa…read more.. The spa opens at 7 AM and there I was. I came in through the gates of the gated community and parked in the self parking lot at the spa. Waited in front for five minutes and the doors opened! I felt like putting my face against the window while I waited and say, "open, open, open". I was greeted by a lovely young woman who checked me in and walked me around the grounds to show me around. As I came so early, I had the place to myself for the first two hours. I used the gym, took a swim, went in a couple of Jacuzzis until my girlfriends arrived at 9:30 AM. I'm more of an introvert, so it was perfect. Altogether, we took a yoga class at the beautiful yoga pavilion. We sat by the pool and had a lovely lunch. The food was excellent, including the complementary treats and banana bread. The only negative about the pool was that we were told if we left for more than 20 minutes our belongings would be removed. We couldn't hold our chairs for the day. That was news to us. It was a warm 90° day on a Friday in March and the community and hotel is allowed to use the spa grounds and they all showed up. Every lounge chair was full. Note to self: come Monday through Thursday. The massage: I'm going to say it's one of the best massages I've ever had in my life (and I've been to other five star spas). Pure bliss. Jackie was my masseuse. She listened to me when I asked for stronger pressure and then from there, I went into another world of goodness. She had such love in her eyes when it was all done. This is the most expensive massage I've ever had in my life. Around $400 for a 60 minute massage (with tax and tip) not including lunch. But treating ourselves once in a while is worth it. We felt like we were princesses. Yes, we'll be back. Maybe a while from now to save up our pennies, but we will be back.

Beautiful Grounds, But Not the Five-Star Experience I Expected…read moreI visited Rancho Valencia on my birthday expecting a true five-star experience, and while there were genuinely lovely moments, the overall visit fell short of what a resort at this level should deliver. A few things worth knowing before you book: they do not offer a day pass. Access to the resort is granted by booking a service through their spa, which is fine in principle. What's not fine is their pricing transparency. The rates listed on their website are not what you'll actually pay. Pricing changes based on demand, time of day, and availability. I received two different booking confirmations for the same treatment at two different prices, neither of which matched what was on their site. When I asked at check-in, they explained their dynamic pricing model casually, as if it were common knowledge. It isn't, and it should be disclosed at the time of scheduling. No one mentioned it when I called to book. The check-in staff was cordial, but the energy made it clear they were sizing me up. It was subtle and perhaps unintentional, but noticeable enough to color the start of my day. The property itself is genuinely beautiful. Lush grounds, a cold plunge, multiple pools, and access to yoga and fitness classes throughout the day. The yoga class I attended was listed as intermediate to moderate, but the instructor, who normally teaches the advanced class, ran it at a moderate to advanced pace. I was the only person in the room at the intermediate level and spent more of the class struggling than unwinding. The food and beverage program is what you'd expect at a resort of this caliber. When I booked my massage, I specifically requested champagne for my birthday. It was noted. It was never offered, not before my treatment, not during, and not after. That kind of detail is exactly what separates a five-star experience from a four-star one, and it was simply forgotten. My massage therapist was outstanding. She was thorough, skilled, and clearly excellent at her craft. She identified tension I didn't even know I was carrying and worked through it with real intention. She was the highlight of the day without question. Rancho Valencia is a stunning property that has the bones of an exceptional experience. But the lack of pricing transparency, the inconsistent service details, and the atmosphere at check-in kept it from living up to its reputation. I'm not sure I'd return.

The teas were absolutely delicious, the sweets and savories were beautifully made, and tasted just as good as they looked, and the atmosphere is fantastic. Luxury at its best! This is a five star hotel so you must expect to pay more than for other afternoon teas, but for me, the quality of the refreshments, the atmosphere and the wonderful service makes it worth it. When we paid the check, our server brought us all over a little gift of the creamy Earl Grey, which is their signature tea, for us to take home and enjoy. My only issue and it was not enough to remove a star... When I called and told the concierge I was coming for tea and asked what the parking situation was, I was told that it was $70 for valet parking. Then my friend called the next day because it just didn't seem right and they told her it was $25 for parking if you were having tea. But then when we left and brought our parking tickets to the valet stand, we were charged $12.50. I love paying less than I was expecting to, but it just kind of seemed very discombobulated on their end and I don't expect that from a hotel of their caliber.

We attended the Mother's Day tea party event at Fairmont Grand Del Mar. The event was the most…read moreexpensive tea party event in San Diego County and so my expectation was admittedly high. Pros: - the facility itself is impressive and the grounds were well kept - the live musician was talented and even engaged with some kids dancing up front - some of the small bites were quite good including 1 of the 4 savories and most of the sweet eats Cons: - the service was atrocious. The timing and attentiveness of service was some of the worst I've had. And this is unreal because that is essentially what you are paying for on a Mother's Day tea party - service and attentiveness. I couldn't believe for an establishment such as this that the management would accept the awful service. - Timing: We were seated ~30min past our seating time. We were not spoken to for the first ~15min after seating. They didn't adjust the sun umbrella until ~20 min after seating. The food took a forever back and forth due to issues (see below). Then to get our required valeted car - the line was over a 45 min wait (the line occupied the entire front of the hotel)! - Attentiveness: We were seated in the direct sun despite requesting to not be. We informed them of a walnut allergy for one of my kids via the OpenTable reservation. Then we had to inform the host as we were seated because they didn't know. The host wrote it on the back of a ticket. The waiter picked up the ticket. Then the person came to get our tea and he asked if we had any allergies. We mentioned the walnuts which he had no idea. Then, they brought us out food with walnuts!! haha. Unreal. We informed the delivering waiter (a different one than the rest). They took the kids tray away and then finally delivered a tray for our kids that had about half the original quantity. They didn't even serve the whole course to the non-allergic child. It was unbelievably inconsiderate. You can imagine how happy our Mom was on her special day as we all sat wondering what would happen to the kids food. - Tea: It was nothing special with one completely bitter. Never again. Advise to avoid on Mother's Day and go anywhere else.

Parking was valet only which was quick and seamless (and free!). The staff at the entry of the hotel was super helpful in providing directions to get down to the pool as one of my girlfriend's said it was a little confusing to find, but I was given a clear guide on how to get down there and got there without issue. We had our own server at the cabana who provided us with our free fruit plate and bottle of bubbly to share, and took food and drink orders. She and her coworkers checked on us pretty frequently and kept us well-stocked. The day was a little overcast and cloudy but the pool was a lovely cool temp, and the jacuzzi was in the same general area so when we got a little chilly we hopped on over. After spending some time in the adult-only pool area, we headed up to the family friendly deck and took a couple of runs down the slides, which was super fun. Around the time we were meant to clear out, our server was super sweet and let us know they would just start to pick up around us but we were welcome to stay longer if we wanted to, since there was no one coming in behind us. We continued relaxing until we were all ready to go but first we got to chatting with another staff member, Bryan, who was super rad and shared all his favorite nearby spots to eat. The staff is really so wonderful here! Very friendly and professional. Overall my first visit to the Park Hyatt Aviara was very enjoyable, and I would absolutely visit again (preferably on a hot, sunny day). Highly recommend for any and all poolside celebrations!

We were initially given a noisy room on the front side facing the freeway which was not what we requested. They claimed that we changed it which was not true but "stuff happens" and they still gave us a room on the backside that faced neighborhood homes. Since it was quiet, no harm, no foul. No name cheap coffee for in-room coffeemaker. TP quality in the bathroom is still poor and might be the same lousy nearly transparent grade school restroom variety. The grout is eroding on the tile floors in multiple spots in the bathroom and room so maintenance may not be too dialed in here. The shower is especially annoying by design. It is very, very narrow. I am nearly 6'1" and weigh 177 pounds and this space is tight. To add to the limited space, they cluelessly mounted big shower gel, shampoo and conditioner bottles right in your space on the RIGHT side. On your LEFT side is the interior shower door handle which protrude into your space substantially. You cannot alternate the doors unless you want to create a gap and flood your bathroom floor. Even the handicap bar is in your space which creates an annoying showering experience. They should have alternated the shower doors and moved the bottles to the far end of the shower. On the positive, the Zero brand products are pretty nice. The room has contemporary looks with a big TV and lots of channels including good sports channels. There is the usual fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, desk etc. The heat/ac adjustment is nice as well. Bed is MEDIUM firmness and pretty comfortable. There are oddball sloped/angled floors on the 2nd level which will make you wonder if Salvador Dali designed them or a funhouse designer. The carpet pattern choice adds to the fun. Truthfully, I liked it. Breakfast hours are liberal which is a nice plus. The water station in the hallway on ground level turned out to be very convenient to our room which was a positive for refills. Breakfast featured oatmeal (slightly less runny than last time), and I added walnuts and maple syrup. I used the ladle to make less runny. You can choose vanilla or smore's waffle batter for the waffle maker. I opted for vanilla. There are the usual juices, Activia strawberry, plain yogurt etc. The bacon is crispy and thin and small (more like shrapnel) but does the trick. The scrambled eggs have shredded cheddar cheese available on the side. There are sausage patties, cinnamon-apple mini muffins, blueberry mini-muffins, hot coffee etc. The area is clean and very well serviced by familiar staff. Staff are friendly and take care of you from front desk to breakfast space.
