We are so happy to have spent our honeymoon here. First, let's talk about the service. We were immediately greeted by Esteban, and he was wonderful! There was also a lady up front that helped us. I feel bad that I can't remember her name, but she was pretty awesome as well. Our room was a little bit late, and they invited us to sit in the bar and gave us two complimentary drinks and several bottles of Evian water. We immediately felt spoiled. When we got to our room, we were incredibly surprised by the smart layout of the floor plan and the great use of space! Everything was clean, in order, and just had this warm and welcoming feel that made our time there special. Also, the complimentary snacks were outstanding! We fell in love with some potato chips and now are on a mission to find more. The grounds were incredible! I was absolutely amazed by how wonderfully kept the outside and the inside of everything was. There was a real serenity and just peacefulness as we walked along, no matter where we were on the property. Honestly, this place really is a diamond in the rough, and if you weren't looking for it, you would completely miss it. Additionally, I have to shout out to how kind and thoughtful and intentional the manager and all the staff were to us. When they found out that we were on our honeymoon, not only did everyone treat us with such kindness and want to share in our excitement, but also the chef even sent us some complimentary bonbons and sparkling water. It was completely uncalled for yet wonderfully memorable and just incredibly thoughtful. All in all, this was an incredible experience, and my wife and I can't wait to go back!

I could have taken an hour-long shower (I didn't, of course, but I wanted to). Nice touches around the room. Slippers, robes, a record player. Very well curated decor. It's a really cute space! Absolutely lovely rooftop with ample seating to take in the views. Directly across the street from the beach. Very close to great food options, a grocery store, ice cream, and a nice brewery. On-site garage (there is plenty of street parking all around too) with a discounted rate if you book it online. Meh: Stairs to all the levels. This wasn't a deal breaker or anything, but I would have been annoyed if I had bigger bags. Cons: Our door stuck (it's an outside door in a beach town, so that's 100% normal), but it was loud to close and probably annoyed our neighbors. Their doors were also very loud and startled us a few times during the night. Teeny tiny parking spaces in the private parking garage. I wish the bathroom fan was better. The bathroom mirror was unusable for at least 25 mins after a shower because it stayed too humid. There were supposed to be breakfast pastries and juice in the mornings, but I never saw these things. I asked about it when we checked out, and the person at the desk said we just needed to ask for them in the office each morning. I had anticipated a visible setup in the office based on my discussion with the person at check-in. A better explanation would have been helpful.

Depending on my energy level, I will sometimes take a yoga class prior to my massage. If this review were solely for the Spa, it would be hands down a 5 star! However, it is also for the restaurant by the pool where most of us go post-treatment for lunch. Yesterday I had Lila, & as soon as I put in my order, she had asked if I were staying there & since I was not a hotel guest, she asked me upfront for my card on file. Typically when I have gone there for lunch, they wait until the end to charge you out and/or assist you with the bill. It felt a bit off, considering that after I sat down, another Caucasian lady and her daughter found a spot to sit near me. Alex was their server, & as he took the order, he didn't ask if they were hotel guests &/or if he could put their card on file. Later I happened to walk by the bar area where the servers hang out, & I asked to speak with Lila. I let her know I have been coming here for years & no one has ever asked for me to give them my card on file upfront. I asked her if they have had a few Dine n' Dash situations? She let me know she has been there under a year but she has been asking for cards b/c some people think their food is taken care of when they leave the pool & then check out for their treatments. As a result, they are out of tips and can't go after the customers. I told her it is disappointing to hear that at such a nice place at Rancho Valencia that people would do such a thing. Even if people are coming for the first time, most humans would ask what is the best way to charge out and work it out with the waiter and/or when I have been there, the waiter or waitress will ask if I need anything else, and if not, then they will bring me the check (or I tell them hey I am ready to cash out). I had just had a fabulous massage with Noel (who is my new favorite therapist there) so to have this awkward experience when I am ready to eat and relax by the pool was really not great. To be fair, there are regulars who go there, but it was clear that she didn't recognize me & so decided to ask me upfront for my card. Whereas Alex another server, helping customers next to me, didn't ask the Caucasian lady for her card upfront. And what is so funny is that when the Caucasian lady got her food, the order was all wrong - they put dressing in her salad, put tofu on the side, and put bacon in her salad when she asked for bacon to be taken out etc. Alex was super apologetic for the mix-up in the kitchen, and the whole time I kept thinking, I wished he were my server because he was so nice and treated the lady next to me the way I have always been treated -when I have come here. Lila was more defensive and kept saying "Oh we ask for cards here and you can speak to my manager etc." I didn't come out and ask why there was a disparity from how she asked for my card upfront versus how other servers just took orders like a normal restaurant and then let guests relax and pay at the end. I still love this SPA and will come to get a treatment, but the inequality I felt from being asked for my card upfront was a subtle jab that made my overall experience not as pleasant.

After dropping off our car with Mike and the guys at valet, Juan and Maxine took care of us at the front desk, putting us in the Del Mar suite with a view of the pool. Our room was a full king size bed with a living room and two full bathrooms with closets included. We also had an extra door to come in and out of as we pleased. We had a balcony that we enjoyed our pastry breakfast on the first full day there. It was nice to be back at the adults only pool, and we were helped by a nice server named Paige. Every day, she brought us water and our alcoholic choices. We also enjoyed a delicious hamburger, and guac and chips. On a short walk to the other pool, we enjoyed the tacos from the cantina and they were very impressive. One mushroom, carne asada and chicken street taco. Logan and the guys there were nice to find us and bring our lunch. From ten to almost 4, we spent a day, relaxing, playing crosswords, and betting on the ponies at Del Mar from the comfort of the pool. It was again a relaxing weekend with a little mix of celebrating with two bottles of champagne. A special thanks to the room service crew bringing us ice a number of times. It kept the bubbly cold and my wife with ice for her Pepsis when we ordered in at night. Juan again helped us check out and the guys at the valet got us going home. Pros: - the facility itself is impressive and the grounds were well kept - the live musician was talented and even engaged with some kids dancing up front - some of the small bites were quite good including 1 of the 4 savories and most of the sweet eats Cons: - the service was atrocious. The timing and attentiveness of service was some of the worst I've had. And this is unreal because that is essentially what you are paying for on a Mother's Day tea party - service and attentiveness. I couldn't believe for an establishment such as this that the management would accept the awful service. - Timing: We were seated ~30min past our seating time. We were not spoken to for the first ~15min after seating. They didn't adjust the sun umbrella until ~20 min after seating. The food took a forever back and forth due to issues (see below). Then to get our required valeted car - the line was over a 45 min wait (the line occupied the entire front of the hotel)! - Attentiveness: We were seated in the direct sun despite requesting to not be. We informed them of a walnut allergy for one of my kids via the OpenTable reservation. Then we had to inform the host as we were seated because they didn't know. The host wrote it on the back of a ticket. The waiter picked up the ticket. Then the person came to get our tea and he asked if we had any allergies. We mentioned the walnuts which he had no idea. Then, they brought us out food with walnuts!! haha. Unreal. We informed the delivering waiter (a different one than the rest). They took the kids tray away and then finally delivered a tray for our kids that had about half the original quantity. They didn't even serve the whole course to the non-allergic child. It was unbelievably inconsiderate. You can imagine how happy our Mom was on her special day as we all sat wondering what would happen to the kids food. - Tea: It was nothing special with one completely bitter. Never again. Advise to avoid on Mother's Day and go anywhere else.

My husband had just finished working six consecutive shifts at the fire department, and we were simply looking forward to a nice evening together. As we entered the parking lot, two men in a golf cart crossed in front of our vehicle. My husband honked, and there was later a brief verbal exchange about what had happened. There were no threats or physical confrontation from us, and we believed the matter was over. Later, while we were still seated at our dinner table, a woman we had never met approached us and began questioning us about the parking-lot interaction. She told us that she and her husband were club members, repeatedly referenced their membership, said she had never seen us there before, and told us she "didn't want any problems in the future." I cannot speak to what she intended, but the encounter made both of us feel intimidated, unwelcome, and extremely uncomfortable. We later learned that an Aviara Country Club member event was being held at the restaurant that evening. After dinner, we discovered that our vehicle had been extensively damaged while parked on the property. Carlsbad Police investigated, and surveillance footage from the property documented what occurred. An individual associated with the earlier parking-lot encounter became the alleged suspect during the investigation. Our vehicle ultimately sustained nearly $15,000 in repair costs. I am intentionally not identifying anyone or making any statement about guilt. I am simply describing what my husband and I experienced that evening. What has disappointed us most is Park Hyatt Aviara's response afterward. I personally contacted hotel management and was told that Hyatt was cooperating with police, which we appreciated. We were also told that someone from Aviara Golf Club management would contact us to discuss what happened. That call never came. I understand that a hotel cannot control the actions of every person on its property, and I am not assigning legal responsibility to Hyatt. My concern is how we were treated as guests after such a serious and disturbing experience. We experienced an uncomfortable confrontation during dinner, left to discover nearly $15,000 in damage to our vehicle, and had to involve law enforcement. Yet we never felt the level of concern, communication, or follow-through we expected from a five-star property. That is what has been most disappointing. We chose Park Hyatt Aviara because we expected exceptional hospitality and guest care consistent with the Park Hyatt name. Instead, we left feeling uncomfortable, unsupported, and profoundly disappointed. I sincerely hope Park Hyatt Aviara considers how guests are cared for when something goes seriously wrong during their visit.

It was NOT BAD at all! I'm not sure why there were a lot of negative reviews... Now, it wasn't great or incredible, no it was not a new property. I do think it's an older, remodeled property and the layout was interesting, a big circle with a big courtyard (hehe) in the middle with the pool and the bistro (the only restaurant on the property that serves Starbucks). Gym is tiny and felt stuff because it was in the basement floor with no window. There are only two levels and we were asked which floor was our preference and I saw second. We were given room 244 and it has a view to the bistro and the pool. Really high ceiling and since it was August, the already hot and humid weather making the first time entering the room feeling like we were transported to an island hotel room somewhere, even Hawaii. The high ceiling and interesting layout of the room was kind of nice/cool, and strange. The bathroom was unnecessary huge...but no complaints. Overall, room was really big and spacious and the only thing I would want to comment was how dusty the counter top was in the bathroom... I wiped everything off (all the counter) for some reason and there seemed to be lots of black sand on the bathroom counter top and in the sink... but, you are next to the ocean so... Overall, Courtyard doesn't provide free breakfast even for Titanium unless you book a rate with breakfast included (not free since those rates already accounted for the charge of the breakfast). However, not a problem because it is located where there are tons of places to eat any time of the day, and tons of places for coffee any time of the day. Very short walk to the beach, super simple and easy to find where beach access is. Go either from the back, turn right and short walk cross to the other side, there is the stairs down the beach. After being told by the front desk person they would look into it and call us back in a few minutes, we waited over 30 minutes then walked to the front desk where we couldn't be ignored. To then wait another 30 minutes to get a new room, delay was due to something wrong with the "system". The manager Tina (who is very friendly, if not fully effective) said she would put some Marriott Bonvoy points in my account for the trouble - the least I would expect for moving us from a double to a single and making us wait over an hour at 9pm for this change due to a pest issue in their room. Now, 3+ weeks later and multiple calls to the hotel - I do not have any bonus points nor even a call back.
