The location is convenient to Cardiff-by-the-Sea and Encinitas, and we are here for holiday lights fun and beyond as we "hotel hop" around the SD area. We were initially given a noisy room on the front side facing the freeway which was not what we requested. They claimed that we changed it which was not true but "stuff happens" and they still gave us a room on the backside that faced neighborhood homes. Since it was quiet, no harm, no foul. No name cheap coffee for in-room coffeemaker. TP quality in the bathroom is still poor and might be the same lousy nearly transparent grade school restroom variety. The grout is eroding on the tile floors in multiple spots in the bathroom and room so maintenance may not be too dialed in here. The shower is especially annoying by design. It is very, very narrow. I am nearly 6'1" and weigh 177 pounds and this space is tight. To add to the limited space, they cluelessly mounted big shower gel, shampoo and conditioner bottles right in your space on the RIGHT side. On your LEFT side is the interior shower door handle which protrude into your space substantially. You cannot alternate the doors unless you want to create a gap and flood your bathroom floor. Even the handicap bar is in your space which creates an annoying showering experience. They should have alternated the shower doors and moved the bottles to the far end of the shower. On the positive, the Zero brand products are pretty nice. The room has contemporary looks with a big TV and lots of channels including good sports channels. There is the usual fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, desk etc. The heat/ac adjustment is nice as well. Bed is MEDIUM firmness and pretty comfortable. There are oddball sloped/angled floors on the 2nd level which will make you wonder if Salvador Dali designed them or a funhouse designer. The carpet pattern choice adds to the fun. Truthfully, I liked it. Breakfast hours are liberal which is a nice plus. The water station in the hallway on ground level turned out to be very convenient to our room which was a positive for refills. Breakfast featured oatmeal (slightly less runny than last time), and I added walnuts and maple syrup. I used the ladle to make less runny. You can choose vanilla or smore's waffle batter for the waffle maker. I opted for vanilla. There are the usual juices, Activia strawberry, plain yogurt etc. The bacon is crispy and thin and small (more like shrapnel) but does the trick. The scrambled eggs have shredded cheddar cheese available on the side. There are sausage patties, cinnamon-apple mini muffins, blueberry mini-muffins, hot coffee etc. The area is clean and very well serviced by familiar staff. Staff are friendly and take care of you from front desk to breakfast space. read more

My wife uses a wheelchair, so some of this review will be specific to an accessible room (specifically, room 132). We've grown to like Hampton Inns in general because they have such a great breakfast and the rooms tend to be spacious and comfortable, and this was no exception. In this specific case, because our American Express card is linked to Hilton Honors, we were able to use our reward points to book the room (cost us 60,000 points for the night). This was also the first time I had used the Hilton mobile app for Hampton Inn. I was able to use the app to not only book the room, but check in the night before, get a digital key, and check out. I used the digital key in the app to unlock the room door, and it was very fast and easy. There was also a floor plan of the hotel on the app so I could see where our room was located and could walk straight there. The only time I had any interaction with the front desk was to stop by during breakfast the next day to verify that check-out time was noon. Pros: Room was comfortable and spacious, very easy to maneuver the wheelchair in. This particular room has a roll-in shower, and you get a nice, full strength stream of water (so many other hotels have water-saving devices where the stream is fairly weak). Also, the bathroom has a nightlight. At other hotels, I usually have to leave the bathroom light or entry-way light on so I can find my way to the bathroom in the middle of the night without bumping into anything, but the nightlight in the bathroom cast just enough light for me to see. Air conditioning worked well. I was a little confused because there was a thermostat controller mounted on the wall that I couldn't get to power on. Turns out that you control the temperature and fan directly from the A/C unit that's mounted under the window. There's also a switch mounted on the wall that controls the window shade. Nice full breakfast, with sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, Belgian waffle machines, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, fruit, different breads to make toast, and a juice machine. Staff was very mindful to keep all of the items stocked up. Tip: for crispier bacon, lay a napkin on a paper plate, put your bacon on it, then press another napkin on top of the bacon to soak up the grease. Roomy desk that was big enough where I could set up my laptop plus a portable external monitor. USB ports by the bed and desk for phone charging. Noon check-out time. We could sleep in and take our time to pack. Cons: Our room (room 132) didn't have any towel racks. The towels are folded nicely on a couple of shelves in the bathroom, and there's a hook next to the shower where the hair dryer hung from, but there were no towel racks to hang face cloths, hand towels, and bath towels once you used them. I looked at some of the pictures from other reviews, and it looks like in a regular, non-accessible room, there are racks mounted on the shower door. But since our roll-in shower had shower curtains instead of a shower door, there were no racks. They could easily mount a couple on the back wall between the shower and toilet. We ended up using the hand rails around the toilet to hang our towels. Could use some more lighting by the dresser/TV. There is a small desk lamp on the desk, and two lights by the head of the bed, but the dresser area gets a little dark at night. The bar in the closet is a little low, but maybe this is to make it easier to reach for someone in a wheelchair. If you have a long dress that needs hanging, your dress is probably going to touch the floor. Seating area for breakfast is a little cramped and small. If you want to move a chair out of the way to make room for a wheelchair, difficult finding a place to put the chair temporarily. There are also some seats in the lobby. Could use some more handicapped parking spaces. There are only four, and all were taken by the time we got there. But there seemed to be plenty of parking in general. read more

The good: affordable, felt like a safe location, clean, comfortable beds and within 2 miles of the beach, shopping and eateries. The bad: husband is currently using a cane, we walked into the entry way being mopped and soaking wet; mid afternoon. Other guests were coming and going as well, quite slippery. I had requested a top story room with a king bed so we wouldn't hear folks walking above us and near an elevator; for easy access for hubby. Nope. 1st room near the lobby, noisy as heck, we could hear a dog barking, had to walk up a ramp like area to our room, not easy for my husband. Toilet seat was the tiniest we have ever seen, the tub leaked non-stop, the barn like door did not close nor had a lock and the tub never drained properly. 5 STAR CUSTOMER SERVICE THANKS TO MALLORY AND JOSE - Checked in for two connecting rooms on Sunday 4/27. Requested an early check in, but as it turns out, not only could we not get an early check in but our rooms were not going to be ready at 3 pm. Jose talked to the head of housekeeping to get at least one room ready (which Mallory had already requested) but there was still going to be a delay. Mallory was extremely firm about getting us a room as soon as possible because we had everything in our truck and town was so crowded and we had our dog with us. Honestly, if I had my own business, I would hire her. She was so professional and provided excellent customer service to the people checking in but also was firm about the housekeeping staff listening to her requests. In addition, I ended up needing to switch rooms because I was unhappy with odd set up of our original request and Mallory was so kind and understanding and immediately switched us. Great employee! As we were waiting, I saw Jose deal with a lady who said she was "highly allergic to dogs and cats". He politely explained it was a pet friendly hotel and offered to call another place for her or would be sure he had a room that was extra cleaned. As the lady glared at our dog in the lobby, he found her a room that hadn't had a dog in two weeks which she took. He handled the whole situation professionally. Breakfast was delicious - but please bring some money and tip the housekeeping staff putting it together and helping serve you. I didn't see many tips. read more

I think the thing I love the most about Hampton Inn is that it's CLEAN! I never feel weird when I stay there. We had a nice, spacious, comfortable room for our 1-night stay in Encinitas, complete with microwave, mini-fridge and couch. A nice touch was a night-light in the bathroom! I usually bring my own but I didn't need it here. Breakfast is from 6 to 10 every day which is super nice when you're on vacation and don't want to get up at the crack of dawn!! We needed a new roll of toilet paper and it was brought up within 5 minutes of calling the front desk. I highly recommend Hampton Inn for your next visit to Encinitas. read more

Second time staying here and no doubt this place will most likely be our go to for lodging in Encinitas. Location is perfect. Within 1-2 miles of the main street in downtown & the beach and a hop and skip away from the 5 fwy. Convenient. The lobby is nice, lots of seating, dining tables with plenty of chairs. Little mini mart for your late night snacks & beverages. Rooms are huge & the beds are okay, pillows are a little flat, might just need replacement. Clean rooms & nice bathrooms. I love that they have smart TVs you can connect your Netflix subscription and a decent sized mini fridge and microwave! Continental breakfast included with the stay and I've got to say it's one of the best - eggs done two ways, scrambled & an egg white fritata, turkey sausage & pork sausage patties, red breakfast potatoes, cereals, baked goods, and the waffle bar... serving your regular waffle mix AND a PUMPKIN SPICE WAFFLE?!? It is the season. An assortment of juices & a separate coffee station... it really is the best! The ladies working the breakfast station were so sweet. Took off a star. Note for next time, request for a higher floor. We were in the 1st floor, while it was conveniently 3 doors away from the breakfast area... our upstairs neighbor seemed to be playing dance dance revolution until the wee hours of the morning. This Hampton Inn is a few miles from Encinitas, and definitely within Cardiff. While the beach is certainly nearby, the hotel is central in between a large residential area + commercial one (gas station, a couple of Mexican restaurants). The property itself seems new. The rooms are impressive with plenty of natural light throughout. Well-constructed with walls that aren't paper thin. Parking is all over the property, yet the spaces within the front are fairly tight. The ones on the hillside are much better, if you don't feel like walking up a hill. Definitely returning here when needing to do business in Cardiff & Encinitas again. read more

You can't go wrong with the Hampton Inn no matter where you are. Fell in love with this chain in Little Rock AR so I was happy to make my weekend getaway here! The front desk girl was sooo nice! She made us feel welcome right away. Check in was easy and she told us about the to go breakfast immediately. The room was CLEAN CLEAN and tasteful. Big bathroom. The shower had DOORS, not just a flimsy curtain. Outlets and charging everywhere. Remote and TV were simple to use. I was able to raise and lower the blinds without any trouble. Plenty of towels, tissue, tp, and soap. Spacious closet with iron and hair dryer. Even had a microwave and fridge - the lobby had frozen dinners for purchase as well as snacks so it was very useful! Nice hotel located in Cardiff By The Sea...2 stories, appears to have been recently remodeled. The rooms are fairly spacious and the mattress on the pull out sofa bed is thicker than most hotels provide. The room we were in was located next to the utility room so it was fairly loud on the first morning....we used ear plugs for the next two nights and it was significantly better...there is a fair amount of noise in the mornings as people are walking to and from rooms to the breakfast area or to go about their day, we didn't hear any noise from the adjacent room so that was a bonus...the breakfast is average at best and was the same every morning of our visit...there is a 24 hour coffee bar but for some reason they remove the creamers after the breakfast ends at 10 am...we did not try the pool so not sure how that area of the property is...the location is very good, adjacent to the 5 but far enough away to not be bothered by the constant traffic noise. There is a $15 a night parking fee which doesn't seem necessary, especially since the parking isn't covered or secure...The beaches of Cardiff and Encinitas are a short 5 minute drive as well...Would return again in future, mainly due to the location of property and the easiness of getting from place to place along the coast...RECOMMEND read more

Checked in on Thursday evening after the races. Luggage carts by front door. Jose did a great job checking us in and answered all of our questions. Wifi was a bit troublesome checking in at first but a quick call to the front desk got us up and running. Since this is a business trip, having breakfast downstairs makes everything easier. Selection impressive with scrambled eggs, sausage (has turkey option), waffles juice bar, fresh fruit and bagles or toast. So far so good. Would definitely stay here again. Unfortunately for me, it was too late to find a new place and with a non-refundable reservation I would have had to eat the cost. I had just stayed at a competing hotel about 10 miles away and discovered this place's "comparable rooms" (king bed, fridge, microwave) are half the size or smaller at a similar or higher price. I arrived at this Hampton Inn after an 18 hour work day. Prior to arriving my digital key card turned red, and I was instructed to go the front desk. When I got to the front desk, they did not fix the digital key, they hassled me and asked for my identification and credit card. It was very late, close to midnight and I was exhausted. I stay at Hilton properties every week, and my credit card is always on file. I stayed at two other hilton properties several days before in CA and no-one asked for my identification. The whole point of the digital key is to streamline the check-in process. This hotel should review their check-in procedures. There are some rooms that should not be taken out of service due to their location next to kitchens and the lobby. Such was the case with room 132. It is handicap accessible which we did not request but was apparently the last one with two queen beds. That means a shower accessible for a wheelchair but doesn't allow a bathtub which was needed with two young kids. I wish that had been made clear in booking. Even so, water was everywhere after our shower because there was no threshold and it doesn't drain correctly. I can't speak to the other room accomodations , just that this particular room has many drawbacks and should be avoided. read more

Service is as always excellent with all the comforts away from home, the staff is very helpful. The Hampton inn is generally a nice hotel with clean rooms beds and bathroom and a decent breakfast. I have now stayed there twice, the latest for 2 nights on Oct 7 and 8, 2023. The first time was about a year ago and was disappointing with poor service and a failure to clean the rooms or even get towels. I wrote it off as a Covid disruption and stayed again. This time they also failed to clean the room and after returning in the evening to find nothing done, we went to the front desk where we got a "sorry about that" and a handful of towels. There was no refund or attempt to compensate. As a side noet, I am in the Hilton Honors and this didn't help. Indeed, I got a random phone call from Hilton honors at midnight that ruined my sleep. read more

Just stayed 5 nights here on vacation and had a GREAT stay! Here are the things I loved about it. 1. Easy access to the freeway. Literally, right off the 5 and Birmingham. 2. Smaller hotel, only 2 floors, easy to park/get to your room, always! 3. Friendly staff. Everyone! Front desk, maids, breakfast people etc. Really great customer service from everyone! 4. Free breakfast included. The first night there, it was "to go" but the last 4 nights there, it was full on breakfast. Waffles, eggs, bacon, sausage, cereal, juices, coffee, yogurts, fruit etc. Really nice breakfast spread. 5. Close to restaurants. There are 2 different taco shops (both good!) within walking distance (literally like 500 feet away and the other one is 1000 feet away) and other good restaurants right up the road in Encinitas. 6. Close to the beach. 1 mile up Birmingham and you are at the beach. 7. Parking. Always available, pretty big lot. 8. Comfy beds and pillows. 9. Good TVs (47 inch Samsungs, I think) with Netflix app built into the guide. I really have to give a shout out to the front desk people and the cleaning crew. My son got sick at 1:30am the first night there. Had to go down to the front desk and they went and got me new bed sheets and everything. The cleaning staff, also. If I ever caught them in the hall and asked for anything, they would literally drop what they were doing and get me what I needed (more toilet paper, fresh towels, etc). They were AWESOME! Would 100% stay here again and will probably do so again next year when we come back to San Diego for vacation. Had a great week here! read more

There is enough parking so not that far of a walk. Breakfast was nice, there is a lot of to choose From than most hotels that serves breakfast. The ladies kept making sure food was stocked & kept fresh. The staff are really nice & friendly. I was not disappointed at all & recommend to all. ONE OF THE WORST HOTELS IVE STAYED AT! The toilet runs and is extremely loud when it does. My aunt staying next to us said hers went out completely and stopped working all together. Not the only red flag the second was the Air conditioner would turn on but only for 3 minutes then turn off for an hour. You have control over the timing. The pool and jacuzzi is small and extremely crowded. We asked the front desk to put us down for a room clean (((which you need to do or your room will not be cleaned))) so we went out for dinner so they had time and weren't rushed only to come back to the same dirty unfolded/made bedroom. The morning of around 3am someones car alarm kept being triggered for hours and the staff did nothing about it even other guests were complaining about it and nothing was done. We paid $800 for 3 night and didn't stay all nights due to the all the events. read more

Warning to business travelers: This hotel, that I have stayed in many times, has a new sensor system in the rooms that turns off the electricity every 30 mins if you don't walk around the room. Not very well thought out since 1) you can not charge your devices unless you want to keep getting up all night to activate the motion sensor and 2)makes for interesting Zoom calls if you go completely dark after 30 mins and have to explain that you need to dance around in order to make the lights come on. Someone should have at least questioned this up at Hilton. They may be saving money but we are canceling business travel to this hotel. Empty hotel rooms make zero dollars. read more

The special touches Hilton has put in place to let you know your room has been sanitized made me feel more comfortable. We were warmly greeted when checking in. Check in was fast and efficient. Luckily we had to leave our flooded nasty Airbnb so we were able to find this gem. Rolled in at 11:30 AM and was treated wonderfully and was told she could get us in with a early check in. Needed 2 rooms and the woman at the front desk was so helpful and accommodating. She got us 2 rooms side by side and a great rate. The rooms were immaculate and modern were everything was clean and tidy. Plenty of towels and crisp clean bedding. Bed were comfortable and rooms were so quite and peaceful. I went here for a quick getaway with a friend. I was pleasantly surprised. The lobby had a sea theme and was so welcoming. It was clean and so was our room. I felt staff took precautions to keep us safe and distanced. Breakfast was served in to go boxes and staff served us coffee. I enjoyed the on site gym and close location to shopping and restaurants. With the COVID and having to eat out all the time we needed a place to sit down and eat. There was one small desk and one chair and two of us. Noise. Between the mini fridge, air conditioner, and bathroom fan it was hard to sleep. Along with the stomping of people upstairs and in the hallway. We were told at check in if we need anything to just call the front desk but wasn't given a number to call so the only number I have is the 800 universal number that goes to someone who speaks poor English and is working from home for the whole company. Things to keep in mind, this COVID thing really messed everything up. This is a good clean hotel I'm just used to remote living and the luxury of sitting upright. read more

I hope they let their reservation center know about the crib situation so that future guests aren't caught off guard like we were. INITIAL REVIEW When we booked the room over the phone, we asked if they had a mini/rollaway crib and they said yes. So we didn't bring our pack 'n play- great, one less thing to pack. We just checked in and the front desk told us that they don't have any cribs- their reservation center is misinformed and there was nothing they could do. We don't even have the option to go and buy a new one and get reimbursed, since it's 8pm on Christmas Day and EVERYTHING IS CLOSED. Giving 2 stars because the hotel is newly renovated and the room is spacious and nice. But we're so annoyed by the inconvenience of the missing crib that it's really hard to say anything positive. read more

Booked through Hotwire for a last minute getaway. The hotel amenities lists "oceanfront" on the website. I knew it's too good to be true but thought it was at least close to the beach and maybe a peekaboo view. This hotel is next to the 5 freeway and next door to a gas station. Beach/ocean is no where to be seen. Contacted Hotwire who claimed they have no control over hotel listing/description. Spoke with the hotel front desk and was informed it's not there fault for the wrong listing. Bottom line no one wants to take responsibility for the false advertisement. Parking is $10, even though it's not near any attractions. It's not listed on the website nor did the front desk informed us about it at check in. Only to see its charged at check out. The hotel's room is decently cleaned. Although the ac is loud. The toilet is older and has stains. Hotels breakfast is typically to it's chain, average cafeteria food. But It's convenient. It's a clean place to rest your head, but nothing special and definitely not near a beach. We had to walk over a freeway and then highway tor over 30 mins to get to a beach. read more

We stayed at the Hampton Inn because of the great location for what we were in Cardiff for. Close to the freeway off ramp and familiarity with the brand. Check in was easy and the staff were very nice and answered all questions as to the things in the local area. Our room was very nice, functional and clean. The mattress was a bit firm for me but we managed to still get a decent nights sleep. The morning breakfast was pretty basic but it does what it's intended to do, put something inside your stomach in the morning. The coffee was plentiful and the cups doubled as a to go cup. One of our most enjoyable hotel motel Days Inn Carlsbad. The room was impeccably clean lovely and very modern. We enjoyed the artwork on the walls, even a pic of N E M O over the toilet. The hot breakfast was very good and constantly cleaned buy a very polite staff. This was not a resort just a place to sleep, eat and go a very lovely area of San Diego. We enjoyed the piping hot coffee and creamer on the go . There is a pool and Jacuzzi. TV was ok. Thank you for a lovely stay. read more

I am so glad I am getting my points back. Suggest you report this hotel to Hilton head quarters. They will want to make their customers happy even after staying in a horrible hotel like this one. I will not come back here. This place does not know what the definition of service is. Suggestion take off that doormat on the front of your hotel as clearly you are not following what it says: to make your customers happy. read more
