Wooden crates with plastic exterior were used to stuff the electronics into, and other things that required sturdy support to not move around and get damaged. They brought the different types of crates they had ready to be used and had us choose the ones we wanted. Thankfully the bundle we had purchased included two or three different types, and each one was for a different type of material. Ultimately things worked out pretty well for us given that we were in her circumstances since we began this move. I had the same experience as you, and it seems as if there's a lot of other people that have had the same issues with this CHEATING COMPANY. I had some of my mother's estate picked up in South Bend and also to be delivered in NC. Like you, the price almost doubled from $1200 to $2200. According to my sister in SB, they tore up the kitchen floor and dented the (metal) door going from the kitchen to q1the garage. There has to be a way to get the word out to not use this so called moving company, as it is more like the Bonnie and Clyde Demolition Company. Personally I am going to lodge a complaint with the BBB in Maryland, and I am has by the way they are not registered with the BBB in Maryland. Wondering if you got a reduction in price from them or not. Oh and by the way, while the movers were there within the same breath they said there would be a $200 increase and BOOM it went to a $500 increase, and when they called and wanted payment, it was $1000 more. The amount of expertise and experience that these gentlemen displayed in the few days that we worked with them was second to none. If we had a choice to go back and change any single aspect about the move, we would not change anything. They carried all of the boxes from the top floor outside to where the trucks were parked and they had two drivers that carried all the stuff back to the warehouse. Then you know how it would feel to stick your Italian leather sectional, RH table and chairs, Stressless recliners and hand carved marble outdoor vases (4feet x4 feet, 1 ton each) along with all your glass, road bikes, huge TV and other stuff you collect by the time you are in your late 50s and move it from Ohio Columbus's 5000 sgf house to South Carolina (via Chicago) in a trailer behind a pickup.... Here is my very honest and very negative review of Cross Country Movers Company. We are moving from Columbus, OH to South Carolina. I got 3 quotes month before the move and went with the highest - Cross Country Movers- in hopes to avoid stress and property damage. Boy, was I wrong! The first impression was nice. You will talk to a very pleasant, helpful and reassuring salesperson (in my case Kelly, based in LA). She promises a very stressless experience,a team of 3 people will provide a white glove service, your staff is hold for free up to 1 month and then delivered to a destination w/n 21 days window. In our case, they also promised to custom crate our huge and heavy marble planters(we moved them before twice and only 3 men can handle it, which I mentioned to Kelly).All sounded very good to us. We worked on the price (as the beginning quote rises exponentially as you call them back to add some "small" items - bikes, lamps, etc - they charge by item, you will not be able to move a handkerchief, if it is not listed, beware). The final quote was $9,000+. Closer to your move date you will get a very nice phone call to confirm the date (in my case from Frank, who, again reassured me of a white glove experience 3 men team will provide). He told me that the company is "national", has lots of air conditioned warehouses to hold my stuff safely in major cities all over the country.(That Columbus is not one of them I learned later). Then the move day comes. I was given a window for 3 men team to come 9 to 11am. At 11:20am 2 Mexican men on a pick up truck showed up. The pick up was pulling a big trailer. They casually told me that the 3rd guy "did not have an opportunity to come". Then one of them looked at my planters and furniture and politely noted that they have moved much more expensive things, but agreed that they will need the 3rd mover. Called someone and started waiting for "another guy". It was past noon by then. I started calling the management (it is based in LA, so no one is available before noon Columbus time). The company tells you a lot of things, what they do not tell you, is that your belongings, instead of being stored here, in Columbus, OH or moved down South East to SC (11 hours), will be stuffed into this trailer and wiggled behind the pick up all the way up North West to Chicago (7 hours). Only there the planters will be crated (does not make any sense) and everything will be stored so that one day it will go back down South East to SC's destination (18 hours, probably through Columbus). Any way, in my case, the 2 men team simply could not handle the load. The company's "solution" to load all our stuff, but the planters (which do need 3 team movers) today and wiggle it all the way up to Chicago and they would comeback for the planters later, in a few days did not work with us - what if in a few days the guy will not "have an opportunity to come to work" again? Or planters will be stored in some other warehouse around the country and never join other stuff?.. The trailer behind the pickup was simply unacceptable for a long distance cross country white glove move, as the possibility of damage increases dramatically (you get 60 cents per pound in case the item is damaged, so for a destroyed 50in 20 pound TV, you will get 12 dollars to buy a new TV), 25 hours of driving around with fragile electronic and furniture instead of 11 seamed ridiculous for the same reason. It was a tremendous set back for us. We have to vacate the house in 5 days. We are paying now $3000 more to other LOCAL (not National) company to move us timely.
