Unfortunately, my experience working with him was unprofessional and frustrating. A few examples: I was told that to be included in A.R.T's August calendar, they would need a confirmation and deposit by August 5th. I paid the deposit of $200 on July 31st and submitted my poster along with the blurb by Aug 4th. However, I wasn't included in their newsletter. I had to follow up a couple times by email and phone to remind them to add me to their website. When I visited his store for the first time, he told me I could stop by the store any time I wanted, but when I did stop by, to ask about the lack of signups for my class, he cut me off mid-sentence, made me wait for 15 minutes, and then sent me home without a resolution. I ended up losing $200 on my deposit, which he claims was nonrefundable, despite his not saying so upfront. I would advise anyone considering partnering with A.R.T. to make sure all terms are in writing before making a payment.

We wanted to paint some of the marvel characters that we saw in a picture and also saw as a finished product on the shelf, but they were sold out. It's $8 to sit and then the price of the pottery on top of it. It's not cheap, but you're paying for the entertainment of it, the experience and memories, as well as, bringing home a one of a kind painted pottery. Additionally, there's a credit card fee if you pay with credit card. So I opted to pay in cash. Owners/staff are friendly. The staff offered suggestions on how to start painting (e.g. sketching out my design with a pencil first). But be patient, the owners have broken English. More people come in -- a 5 and 8-year-old. He insists they sit together even though there's plenty of space because as he says: "this way I don't have to keep walking back and forth." It's a small shop people. Now we are crowded next to a 5-year-old who has ants in his pants and is ready to climb the walls. Relaxing it was not. Then there's the dog, which they keep in the store. I don't mind dogs, but some do. One such customer said her kid was afraid and could they put the dog away. He is put in the back only to keep coming back out or yap. Now we have to listen to the drama unfolding. But, I think the final straw, after enduring all this was that when I asked for a fine point brush because all the brushes out had bristles that were worn out I was informed customers ruined them so that's what they had. The message here: We can't have nice things and neither can you. I get kids are the main customers but it's an art shop and I KNOW brushes are not that expensive that you can't keep some aside for adults who are trying to do some more detailed work. So, no, it wasn't much fun, and it was sure as hell not relaxing. We won't be back.

They have various types of machines thta you cna come in to try out and see what might work for you. The prices of their fabrics are reasonable. I did purchase some shears that I was able to find for less money elsewhere, and I was able to return them in exchange for store credit. This policy did not bother me because I plan to return for more fabric, as our cosplay is quickly becoming an annual tradition, but be advised that you will get store credit in lieu of a full refund. Owners, Clarissa and Nadine, are very knowledgeable and a wealth of tips and suggestions. If you're just starting our, they are perfect to answer any questions you may have. You had the video game store in the back selling used SNES games and Super Famicom games. Of course, you can't forget the guy in the back with the pony tail selling Zippo lighters and all kinds of knives. It was truly a young Asian miscreant's candy store. He even carried pepper spray and ninja stars. FYI his shop is still there minus the weapons. The jewelers also pierced your ears and chained you up to look the part during the days of wide legs, black lip-liner, beepers, and bleach blonde bangs. I can't help but to have a nostalgic moment of the Flushing of my youth upon entering this establishment. Now, let's get to the real reason of the review. I purchased several prints on Art.com intended to be gifts. Sadly, the site charges a ridiculous amount for the prints to be framed. After a little research, I decided to have them framed at this local spot that's been there forever.They have a section tucked in beside the jewelers on the right. The jobs were all done within a week's time and came out looking flawless. I almost wanted to keep the art for myself. It's absolutely amazing how a nice framing job accentuates the visual appeal of an art piece. The best thing is you can negotiate price the friendly frame man. I got three large prints done for $120. The largest piece was a 40'x30'. I think he originally wanted $130, and I talked him down to $120. He was reluctant to agree, but he hooked me up. I liked the impeccable quality of his work so much I went back to frame another print. He asked for $40 but I talked him down to $35 after an endearing conversation about how he should quit smoking cigarettes. I'm definitely going back for any future framing needs.
