Many instructors are able to show basic technique, but Steve always has extra strategic nuggets of info that make all the difference. Steve also pays attention to his students while they are training and will drop by to make corrections during drills/training. This makes a huge difference because a student could be off balance, using incorrect posture the entire class and have not been aware, this personal instructor attention makes all the difference. I have seen many instructors that just demo a technique, but pay no attention to the actual students delivery and/or retention, so Steve is is an extremely high quality instructor that cares about his work in my opinion. As well, anywhere Steve goes he always has good vibes, and builds positive community feeling around him. He's also quite funny and makes good jokes. He attracts high quality students that are a joy to train with, and also you can get in some serious work at the same time. The vibe at a gym is pretty important, you don't want to go to a gym full of slackers where you feel uninspired but you also don't want to go to a gym where you feel out of your league and you can't learn, can't relax, etc. I followed him to this gym from another gym when he started it because I had such good experiences and such good results training under Steve.

The Kim's van picks up the kids from school and get them to Kim's pretty quickly. They have a room off the main mats that has a number of long tables with chairs all around. The kids can play quietly in the room or do their homework. My son has a good time and came home asking to learn checkers and chess because some of the kids were playing. The kids also have a Tae Kwon Do class each afternoon, and my son enjoys it a lot. What is really great is how enthusiastic the instructors are and how well they get all of the kids to listen. My son, who was already very polite, starting saying "yes sir" and "no sir" regularly after attending. They also give them weekly "star charts", which have a number of activities (doing homework, doing chores, respecting and being kind to family members, etc.), with students earning a lot of stars being recognized each month. All in all, not only does it offer a great option for an after-school program, but the kids enjoy it and the instructors emphasize both learning Tae Kwon Do and being respectful, quality little human beings.

We have had such an awesome experience at Strickland Martial Arts. I have two daughters (age 7 and…read more4) who attend the weekly classes and I also took a Womens Self Defense class from Mr. Strickland recently! The kids classes are excellent. Both my girls are engaged the whole time and I love how the kids are learning things that they don't even realize. Having daughters, it's so important to me that they are involved in martial arts and I feel like their confidence has boosted as a result. I also recently took a Womens Self Defense class and I cannot rave about it enough. Not only were we taught all the fundamental self defense moves, but we did mock scenarios where we had to put our skills to the test. I will 100% sign up for this class every year for a refresher. Additionally, I absolutely LOVE the fact that upon leaving the class, Mr. Strickland said that if you take away nothing else, I hope you take with you the will to fight back if anything ever happens to you.
