We stopped by Crosscut while waiting for our order from Abe's. The interior is clean, open, and welcoming. They have a good selection of drinks. Our two adult beverages were made quickly and exactly what we were looking for. It looked like most everyone inside was hanging out for a while, including families with kids. Our visit was relatively short (~25 minutes), but we will definitely be going back for a longer visit in the future.

It's been awhile since we came back here and I was surprised they added some bourbons to the menu. You can only get them neat or over the rocks, which I do not mind at all. This is a really cool area. I could see myself hanging here many nights. Especially interesting in the winter with that giant fire place still. The beer was good and I would love to see how they rotate through, plus they have a solid looking whiskey list. A must revisit on next trip.

Do we have enough taproom & food truck pods in Bend? Apparently not what with this new one and another one coming on 4th street (eastside). I'm not complaining. - Prices are in line with everyone else in Bend. - Extensive tap list full of local beers. It's much bigger than the other beer/food truck pod located nearby (The Podski), for example. - Limited food cart offerings so far but it includes the best pizza in town (Abe Capanna's). The Podski greatly exceeds Crosscut in this regard (except for the pizza) and I'm not sure how Crosscut can put more trucks/carts in their space. - Nice indoor area; nice outdoor area. The inside is a ski-lodge style high-ceiling affair and the outside is various benches, seats and tables with a couple of iron fire pits. Given The Current Unpleasantness (COVID-19), I'm not terribly comfortable inside, especially since none of the patrons were masked. But outside is definitely doable and there's plenty of social distancing space built into the tap counter for when you order your beer. - Smallish parking lot but there's also street parking nearby. I have to think the Box Factory folks will frown on people parking in their lot, which is just across the street from Crosscut. I like it. With a lot of competition nearby (The Podski, Immersion Brewing, Crux Fermentation, Brown Owl, River Pig, Spoken Moto) they need to be good to survive, I think.

In a beer mecca like Bend, there are more breweries than you could possibly visit on one visit. For a nice taste of the best, Crosscut is worth the visit. For beer fans, whiskey aficionados, or wine heads, they have a great selection of everything. Food trucks are outside, again with a nice spread to cater to any taste. This place would be great in winter or summer. They have lots of outdoor seating including tables, chairs, and fire pits. Indoors they have cozy seating near the fireplace, big and small tables, and the bar at the back. Upstairs is also a loft with seating and dart boards, which can also be rented for private events. The beer selection here is fantastic, with great prices. The bartenders were welcoming and knowledgeable about all they have to drink. read more

I live in bend have been here many times, but won't be back. I came last night and had the worst customer experience. First the bartender wouldn't give me a taster to taste the sour, which has never been an issue in the past. Bartender was very rude about it. Then my friend ordered an American pale ale and it was a clearly a hazy and my friend said hey that's not a pale ale and the other bartender said take it up with the brewery. That's not how anyone should treat their customers. Also, bathrooms very dirty. read more

Beers went up to $7. No bueno. Love the pizza trick here but I was definitely surprised and disappointed to see beer prices have gone up to 7$ a pint. I know the price of just about everything has gone up BUT I am still paying the same price at the store for good craft beer as I was 3 years ago. Price gouging. Guess we won't be back for a long time.........and maybe just grab a pizza to go. Sad, because we used to love this place. read more

I pick the hotel next door just so I can walk over and enjoy the atmosphere this place radiates. Not necessarily a beer drinker but I always make an exception when here. But now they have a large selection of bourbons and whisky!! Plus! However if it is warming indoors you prefer over the fire kettle's outdoors then I suggest you come early. Plenty of beer selections and decent amount cider and wine selections. Prices were average and sampler was $10. It's self seating and self ordering. Limited indoor seating with strict number of people allowed at each table due to COVID. Max number of people at the largest table was 6. There is also outdoor seating but didn't notice the same rules. The fire pits seem like a good idea for colder weather. There are a few food trucks in the outside seating area. Good for larger groups and socializing. I do want to visit when they open up more seating as their couches upstairs and all around were closed off. read more

OMG this is our go-to place in Bend! As a local, it's our first choice, that quintessential Central Oregon vibe! No need to state the obvious, it's not a sports bar. But the second bar tender who came on shift at halftime for the Beavers-Duck game was pretty rad; turning the game sound on to go with the huge projector screen that was put up for the game, that was a win. ...Cheers! read more

Came across this gem as I was leaving town. Stopped in to check it out. This place is great!!! Great atmosphere and fire pits look awesome. Great outdoor and indoor seating. The beer was great and staff was friendly. Just had a couple beers since I already had lunch but the food from the trucks looked and smelled delicious. What a GEM! This lil rustic Taphouse truly delivers! Staff are all providing respectful COVID practices for safety, thank you! Spent an entire afternoon relaxing outside at 2 different fire pits plus 2 fountain features - lots of family friendly seating options to spread out comfortably. The inside was clean and smelled like a cabin, hence the name Warming Hut! The center features an old boiler converted into a rad wood burning stove and other outdoor gear decor. Also, there's 3 food trucks - I just couldn't help myself but to try multiple items from each with pure belly delight... When the busser came to clear the plates, she asked how everything was. I said good except the Mac was not great (and was basically untouched). Her disdainful reply, looking at it, was "well, that's a lot of pepper." The pepper wasn't the problem, and being snide to a customer who hadn't complained or asked for anything despite my disappointment in the dish was unnecessary and rude. On the plus side, the beer was good and what I expect from Deschutes. Given that there are a bunch of brewery restaurants within a few blocks, I would have expected more flavorful food and absolutely a better experience with the staff.

The rest of the team, especially recently, have unfortunately always had frankly unwelcoming, bored, avoidant, unenthusiastic, dead expression attitudes no matter the time or stress level. I've even been in when zero customers were in the entire building and based on the sole interactions with the bar, or lack thereof, the magic gets leached away from the place. Without the bartenders, it's just an empty building after all. A welcoming attitude or some conversation is the warm hearth that brings cold travelers back over and over again; people remember how they feel. Then again, even when the place is packed with people, I don't feel any warmth or connection from anyone here. Maybe it's a sign of the times, maybe it's Bend in general. I'll keep trying and coming back nonetheless.

The space is cozy and intimate, with comfortable places to sit and a full bar that feels tucked away from the rest of the property. It was especially festive during the holidays, with Christmas drink specials adding to the charm. I ordered the NA Merry Cherry, which was gingery, slightly spicy, and super refreshing--a great non-alcoholic option. My wife had The Countess and said it was absolutely delicious. Between the atmosphere, the drinks, and the fun of discovering it, The Broom Closet was a total win. If you're ever staying at McMenamins Bend, make sure you take the time to search for The Broom Closet--it's well worth the adventure!

Follow the alley. Trust me…read more You know those places you stumble into and immediately think, "Yep...this is my kind of spot"? That was San Simón for me. At first, walking down the alley in downtown Bend, I honestly was not sure what we were about to find. Then we started seeing little fire pit pods, heated huts, glowing candles, and people tucked away having cocktails. It instantly felt cool without trying too hard. Walking into San Simón felt like stepping into some funky speakeasy hidden in plain sight. Dark lighting, moody atmosphere, David Bowie playing in the background, wild artwork on the walls that makes you stop and stare for a second. Just a great vibe all around. The kind of place where you sit down and immediately relax into the evening. The cocktails were excellent. Not overdone, not syrupy, just really balanced and well made. One of our favorites was the "Some Positive Feedback," which came with this sugar rim that looked awesome and added just enough sweetness without overpowering the drink. Bright citrus flavor, refreshing, smooth, and dangerously easy to drink. Then we asked the bartender if they could just make us something off the cuff. We said vodka, lemon and lime forward, not too sweet, maybe a little spice. They absolutely nailed it. Crisp, refreshing, layered citrus flavor with just enough heat on the back end to keep it interesting. Honestly one of those cocktails where everybody at the table takes a sip and immediately goes, "Oh wow." As a bourbon guy, I was also pleasantly surprised with the whiskey selection. The bartender recommended Stafford's Reserve, an Oregon bourbon, and I am glad I listened. Smooth, approachable, a little sweet up front with some spice on the finish. Easy sipping bourbon that fit the whole vibe of the place perfectly. What really made the night though was the staff. Everybody was friendly in that genuine way where you feel welcomed instead of "served." By the end of the night it honestly felt like we had been there before, even though it was our first visit. The outdoor setup deserves some love too. Bend cooled down at night, but the fire pits and heaters kept everything comfortable. We could have easily stayed another couple hours just hanging out. Pricing felt fair for the quality of drinks and atmosphere. This is not a dive bar pretending to be fancy. It is a genuinely cool cocktail spot that knows exactly what it is. If you are in Bend and enjoy craft cocktails, bourbon, cool music, quirky atmosphere, and places with personality, go find San Simón. Half the fun is finding it tucked down the alley in the first place.

It sounded like a standard option that came with the entrée, as is common with many Asian dishes, so my kids chose the coconut rice. We didn't realize it was an upcharge until later, which was a bit disappointing. Also, the hot tea wasn't refillable, which was surprising. Overall, the food was very good, but clearer communication on pricing would have made the experience even better.

That too was a good idea as the place gets loud with conversation when it fills up. Music wasn't loud, just the people. The menu isn't huge but there are quite a few, varied choices. Given the meal was a bit of a splurge for us, I essentially ignored the prices, which are not trivial by any means. Fine dining entails spending money. Zydeco has a ton of reviews and as the menu apparently doesn't change, I'll just say everything we ordered was great. Cocktails too. The Bramble Down is exquisite. Service was top tier as well. Timely, attentive, professional without being stiff. The capstone to our experience involved the bill. We actually had a gift card from 2017 - nine years ago. While it certainly didn't cover the whole bill, or even half, it was a nice way to defray costs. Unfortunately, when the server ran the gift card, it showed no balance. Not sure why but perhaps over the years, the card had been erased by stray EMF. Despite that and given we provided the card receipt, the restaurant honored the card for the full amount anyway. Well done. Highly recommended.

In an establishment like this, the staff should not get irritated when requests are made by customers. But - other than that one really very slight issue - it was an outstanding experience.

But that's a silly thing to even get stuck on. What really bugged me was the brussels sprouts first off were just swimming in grease and sauce, they were intense, and I only had a couple spoonfuls. The other thing that really pushed this over the edge was the brisket Bao. That seemed like a cool idea, but the brisket itself was extremely basic and just in a formed square. The sauce tasted like just peanut and nothing else, and the bao itself was extremely dry. The bread service was probably my favorite part, that thing was really tasty and so was the butter. I can't remember what they said the butter specifically was, but it tasted like just butter, it wasn't special. This place just doesn't have the value for the cost for me at all with the other nice steakhouses around.

Great decor and music, but apparently fire pits are just for show! Went here with a friend, excited to gather around the inviting fire pit. Spoiler alert: the fire pit stayed as cold as my ex's heart. Despite numerous customer's polite (and increasingly desperate) requests, the staff refused to light it. So there we were, huddled together like penguins, with chattering teeth. It was like a Game of Thrones episode where "Winter is Coming" but without the dragons to warm you up. The only thing flaming that night were my expectations, swiftly extinguished by the frosty reality. If you're into arctic adventures, this place is a solid choice. For those of us who prefer not to get frostbite with our fries, maybe try somewhere that knows how to handle a match. A fire pit isn't just about warmth; it's about the experience. It's about gathering around, sharing stories, and creating memories. It's baffling to have a fire pit as the centerpiece and not use it. It's like having a piano no one is allowed to play. So if you're hoping for that special ambiance and togetherness a fire can bring, bring your own campfire because it won't be happening here. Management, take note: the fire pit isn't just decor. This business is a great place with a beautiful design. The staff talks with customers and creates a kind and caring connection. The bar tenders know their job and their quality of beer. I have noticed that the young runner is chatting up a storm about this place with a great attitude and kind words. The amount of action that occurred on the first day due to the public being released from quarantine was understandable. I know of this because some friends of mine where there at the time. They tried at all costs to make the flow of traffic move smoothly and safely: using arrows on the floor and many signs. They also where very sanitary by using masks, whipping down tables, counters, chairs, etc. The amount of effort Bob put into this place is extraordinary and outstanding. Thank you for making this place Bob, it's very detailed yet simplistic and I know many people have been wanting a place like this in Bend. Great work! This is now my new favorite spot in bend and I sure hope it's yours since it's well staffed and beautifully designed! Thanks again!
